Boy spends all his savings to buy a bicycle for the gas station attendant

It’s truly amazing how far a simple act of kindness can go. We actually never know how our actions make other people feel or how deep of an impact they have on them. That is why we should always mind our behavior, as well as the words we speak to those around us, no matter if they are our friends or complete strangers we meet along the way of the journey called life.

Mandy Peterson’s story is a reminder that if you do good, good shall come to you.

She and her son Vaughn were having fun riding their bikes in Gillitts, South Africa when the boy felt sick. They quickly got into a convenience store so that he could rest and have some water. Little did these mother and son know how the encounter with one of the store’s employees will get them a friend for life. Tony noticed how the boy wasn’t feeling well and decided to step in, and just in a matter of minutes, lovely Vaughn was laughing and smiling again.

This meant so much for Mandy whose life goal was to raise her child in the spirit of doing good to others. Now that someone else did something good for Vaughn, she was certain he’ll learn how important it is for him to do the same thing for someone in need.

“Over the years I’ve tried to live like that and teach my child to do the same.”

Vaughn and Tony became good friends. They would often chat about bikes whenever Mandy and her son were visiting the gas station where he worked.

“(He) listens so obligingly to him as he chatters away.”

The boy knew how much his friend Tony wanted to buy a new bike, so he decided to save some money and purchase it as a present for Tony. The boy obviously didn’t have the right amount, but he was willing to spend all the silver coins he had been collecting for months.

One day, he approached his mommy with a rather confusing question. He asked her how much she wanted to go on holiday that year, because he was willing to spend his holiday money on the bike instead. Mandy couldn’t believe how kind and generous her son was. She always taught him the real values in life, and this was just a proof that she did parenting right.

“(He) asked if I really wanted a holiday and upon asking why, he said he would rather put his savings toward helping Tony get his bike.”

Mandy and Vaughn had a mission. They were getting the best bike for the best guy they knew. Overly excited, the two went to the Game store and purchased the present.

“Our children make us proud on so many occasions but today my heart and his is so full of the joy at the kind man’s face as he, rather stunned accepted his gift from this 10-year-old boy.”

This good deed triggered another one. The chain of generosity and kindness was getting longer. The manager of the store where they bought the bike learned of Vaughn’s story and they wanted to be part of it.

“Vaughn had such ‘good game,’ we just had to get on board! So we’re giving Tony a Game voucher for the same value as his new bike! And of course we can’t forget about you Vaughn, so we’ll be sending one your way, too. Together we can make the world a better place.”

Luis Farias from the gas station where Tony worked was glad one of their employees was the reason so many kind deeds were taking place in this city, and you won’t be surprised if we tell you how they stepped in too and were happy to be part of this “pay it forward” movement Mandy and her son started.

“Dear Mandy and Vaughn, Your kind gesture and generosity is unmatched. We at Caltex Gillitts would like to thank you for your support and generosity and to show our appreciate, we would like to make Vaughn’s dream holiday come true and it’s on us.”

If this story isn’t going to make you do a kind deed yourself, we don’t know what will.

6-year-old gentleman delivers roses to 155 girls and women from his community

“Being a gentleman never goes out of fashion,” and it looks like 6-year-old Casey Boyd of Main Brook, N.L., who truly is a lady’s man, knows this all too well.

This past Valentine’s day, this young boy made the day of 155 women from his neighborhood by delivering roses to them and reminding them just how special they are.

Source: CBS.ca

In order to make this plan of his come true, adorable Casey was saving money the entire year. At the end, he could afford a rose for every girl and woman. In return, he got plenty of hugs and kisses. The ladies who were lucky enough to be given that special attention by the young gentleman were over the moon. Some of them even cried tears of joy, and it was the best thank you Casey could ever hope for.

Lynn Boyd, the boy’s mom, who is obviously doing parenting right, helped her son deliver the roses.

Speaking to CBC Radio’s St. John’s Morning Show, Casey said: “I just wanted to put smiles on everyone’s faces.”

At the end of the tiring day, he also gave his mom a bouquet. Well, she is the most special lady in his life and she taught him how to be caring and loving.

Casey says he has already started saving money for next year’s Valentine’s day, too. Way to go young man!

Man saves dog from being euthanized not knowing she was pregnant

Life is full of surprises, and many times, when we lose hope and when we least expect it, a miracle happens and reminds us that nothing is impossible.

Emma was a shelter dog who resided at a Charlotte animal shelter. Sadly, this isn’t a “no-kill” shelter, and poor Emma found herself on the list to be euthanized.

Source: Fox 46 Charlotte

But then, someone took a notice of this lovely girl and took the time to inform an animal lover, Nicholas R., of the state Emma had found herself in. Nicholas though he could foster the dog and eventually adopt her. He got in touch with Dorsey Patrick, the Director and Founder of Jesse’s Place, who was willing to step in and help Nicholas get Emma under his wing.

According to Fox 46 Charlotte, Nicholas wrote to the organization: “I’m interested in fostering and possibly adopting this sweet girl…I’m very patient, calm, gentle, and have plenty of time to work with her. My last rescued boy died in 2016 from cancer.”

Source: Fox 46 Charlotte

In no time, Emma found herself in a loving home. However, no one was aware that she was hiding something. To the surprise of everyone, the dog was pregnant. Days after she was rescued from certain death, Emma gave birth to 6 puppies. So, Nicholas didn’t only save her life, but that of her babies too.

According to him, Emma and the little ones are doing fine. We are so glad Nicholas stepped in for this mother just in time. May God bless him for his kindness.

Dad has a heartwarming message for the man who made his daughter’s waiting time at the airport fun

Although many of us believed how the new century and the fact that people are slowly but surely becoming open-minded of the new and unconventional things that surround them will bring a change in the way we perceive relations between humans, it’s sad how segregation is still present in modern countries like the United States. No matter how much some of us refuse to admit it, the issue of racial, age, or gender discrimination is there, and it’s real, and it’s up to us whether we’ll continue nurture those feelings of hatred or we’ll teach our kids that no matter how “different” we are, we are all the same.

An interesting encounter that took place at the airport while Kevin Armentrout and his family were waiting to board their flight is enough evidence that we can make things right only if we really give it a try. We can’t help but say how this guy does parenting right.

Pixabay/Heinz_Hofmann_Photography

As people were trying to kill time using their phones or reading books, Kevin’s daughter was having fun running around the place and saying “hi” to random strangers. Needless to say, she managed to put a smile on everyone’s face.

But then, she noticed one guy who caught her interest, so the little girl simply approached and took a seat right next to him.

The man was glad he could make the girl’s waiting time more enjoyable by offering her his tablet and teaching her how to draw on it.

The two strangers spent around 45 minutes together, watching cartoons and laughing. Kevin had his eyes on his daughter all the time but he didn’t want to interrupt the two newly made friends. This father’s heart melted when he noticed his daughter offering the stranger, whose name was Joseph, her snacks.

Kevin later decided to share the story of the lovely encounter on his Facebook page, writing:

Watching them in that moment, I couldn’t help but think, different genders, different races, different generations, and the best of friends. This is the world I want for her.

If every parent out there wants a world for their kids as the one Kevin wants for his daughter, we’ll make the one we all share a much happier place. On the other hand, being kind to little kids will teach them how they should treat others with kindness too.

After Kevin posted the photo of the two friends having fun together, many people reached to him and told him how they knew Joseph and how he is one of the most generous and friendliest people they know. No one was surprised how he took the time to entertain the little girl because that’s what he does, makes people happy.

Facebook/Kevin Armentrout

Kevin ended his post saying:

In a country that is continuously fed that it’s so deeply divided by beliefs, I want her life to be filled with moments like this… not liberal or conservative republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist, just HUMAN.

It’s truly amazing how friendship knows no boundaries.

Police officer who breastfed a neglected and undernourished baby is promoted to sergeant

How far would you go for a tiny human being in need? Police officer Celeste Ayala from Berisso, Argentina, went above and beyond when she found herself in a situation where she could step in for someone vulnerable and fragile; a neglected baby who suffered from malnutrition and was called “dirty and smelly.” What she did to help the tiny soul made her a viral sensation and got her a promotion at work.

“That’s the type of police we’re proud of, the police we want,” the minister of security of the Buenos Aires province said after officer Ayala was promoted to sergeant.

Namely, the baby was brought to the Sister Maria Ludovica children’s hospital while Ayala was on the job as a guard.

Without even thinking twice, she took the baby that was handed to her, and she started breastfeeding it.

“I noticed that he was hungry, as he was putting his hand into his mouth, so I asked to hug him and breastfeed him. It was a sad moment, it broke my soul seeing him like this, society should be sensitive to the issues affecting children, it cannot keep happening,” she told a local outlet.

Source: Metro.com.uk

One of her colleagues, Marcos Heredia, believed that Ayala’s deed was worth sharing, so he posted a photo of her with the baby on the social media.

In the blink of an eye, the photo was shared and commented on by a huge number of people who only had words of praise for the kind and quick-thinking officer.

An official from the brigade where officer Ayala volunteers in her spare time also commented on her act of kindness and said: “We want to congratulate the voluntary firefighting cadet Celeste Ayala who yesterday in her job as police officer whilst she was on guard duty at the Hospital, breastfed a young child who arrived crying. Actions like these fill us with pride and obligate us to redouble the effort, the work and the solidarity with our community.”

What an exceptional woman!

Officer killed in the King Soopers store massacre in Boulder left seven children behind

Among those who lost their lives in the King Soopers store massacre in Boulder, Colorado, which happened on Monday, was a brave police officer who left a loving wife and seven children behind.

Officer Eric Talley was serving the force for 11 years and was known as a courageous man. He showed that once again on the day he tragically died. According to reports, he was the first one to respond to the call about possible armed robbery of the store.

His family and friends, among which his father and sister, describe 51-year-old Talley as a very vibrant person loved by everyone who has ever met him. Speaking to KUSA, a CNN affiliate, the grieving father, Homer Talley, said: “Didn’t surprise me he was the first one there. He loved his family more than anything. He was also a prankster with a “great sense of humor.”

Case of alleged child abuse reported by a stranger ends up with a boy being found dead three weeks later with patches of skin missing

On February 28, a woman named Nahji Jackson spotted a young boy selling muffins right in front of Food Town on Briar Forest. From what she has told ABC 13, she got concerned for the boy’s well-being because he had cuts and bruises all over his face and wouldn’t speak. Jackson alerted the police and said she suspected child abuse.

Police spoke to the boy and contacted his parents who claimed he got the bruises from falling off a bike. The police wrote that the 8-year-old boy, whose name was Keyontae Holzendorf, seemed playful and didn’t appear to be scared of his parents. However, they did proceed the case to the Child Protective Service and the Physical Abuse Unit as a precaution, who didn’t find a record of previous abuse. Sadly, just three weeks after Jackson’s encounter with the boy, he died.

Source: YouTube/ ABC 13

Namely, the police got a call of a possible drowning and arrived at the scene at Quality Inn and Suites off the West Beltway. It was Keyontae’s parents who made that call.

Keyontae was found lying in the middle of the room on the second floor, unresponsive and with severe injuries on his body. According to ABC 13, the boy was missing patches of skin on his chest, arms, tights, and the genitalia area. The investigators were aware there was more to the story than an accidental drowning.

Unfortunately, Keyontae was pronounced dead once at the hospital.

Speaking to ABC 13, Gilbert Sawtelle, the chief prosecutor of the Child Fatality Division at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, said: “When HFD and Houston police arrived, this complainant had many, many signs of chronic abuse, both old and new injuries and the new injuries are horrendous.”

Source: YouTube/ ABC 13

There were also marks of handcuffs and ligature on the boy’s ankles. Apparently, his mother, Kayla Holzendorf, and her common-law husband, Dominique Lewis, tried hiding the handcuffs. They have been arrested and charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence. After the autopsy, the charges may be upgraded.

Rest in peace, Keyontae.

Body of trapped firefighter recovered 24 hours after he died into a massive blaze at an assisted living facility

It takes bravery to be a firefighter. These people are aware they put their own lives on the line with each call they receive, but they still do it, because they know that if it wasn’t for them, many lives can be lost.

On Tuesday, around 1 a.m., a fire was reported to have broken out at Evergreen Court Home for Adults in Spring Valley, New York. First responders came to the scene in no time and did all in their power to get each of the residents to safety. Unfortunately, one of the firefighters, Jared Lloyd, got trapped inside the building and nothing could be done to help him.

His body was located 24 hours after the fire started.

One of the residents also lost their life. Two other firefighters, along with 10 other residents, were injured and hospitalized.

The staff at the facility home got involved in the rescue as well. “They did some tremendous work, life savings, before the fire department got there,” Garfield Bryan, an administrator at the facility, told CBS2. “People was all over the place. It quickly  started to look like a war zone.”

Rockland County Fire Coordinator Chris Kear said: “Blackout conditions, high heat. We’re protected by our ensemble, gear, mask, as firefighters. You can imagine what the residents that are trapped are going through. That gives us the extra Herculean effort to find these people.”

30 residents were rescued and taken to safety. Sadly, Jared Lloyd died in the blaze. He had been working as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years.

Rest in peace, brave man. Your courage will never be forgotten.

Single mom of 4 doesn’t have money for groceries, strangers step in when she needs it the most

Nowadays, many people struggle to make ends meet and can barely afford to buy the basic necessities.

A hidden camera television program named “What would you do?” shows how people react when they face situations in which they should make a decision whether to take an action or just walk by. The show first aired on ABC on February 26, 2008. It was created by Chris Whipple and is hosted by John Quiñones.

Throughout the years, the viewers could witness passersby and onlookers making unusual decision, but this time, the kindness one man and the rest of the customers were willing to show for the actress disguised in a single mom of four will melt your heart.

The scene took place in a grocery store in New Jersey and showed the mom walking in and later realizing she doesn’t have any money to pay for the groceries. The goal of the episode was to find out whether someone would come to this woman’s rescue and offer her a helping hand.

Surprisingly, or maybe not, the number of people who were willing to give the single mom some money is big.

The video shows that there are still compassionate people out there who wouldn’t let a human being suffer, no matter if that’s someone they know or a complete stranger.

Take a look at it below and don’t forget to share it with your friends. In the meantime, ask yourself what would YOU do!

Matted poodle gets rescued and undergoes an incredible transformation

Eldad Hagar is one of the most special people that we know of. If his name sounds familiar to you, you are probably a huge fan of animals. In fact, Eldad is the founder of Hope for Paws, one of the largest and most successful animal rescue organizations there are. Believe it or not, he and his team of vets and rescuers have helped save the life of thousands of animals in need of salvation.

This time, they made a change in the life of a sweet poodle whom they later named Dolly. When they received a call about a matted dog, they had no idea how severe Dolly’s condition really was. However, once at the scene, they became aware that they had to take her at their headquarters as soon as possible.

YouTube

The thing was that Dolly wouldn’t allow them to approach her. She wasn’t a bad dog who wanted to hurt them, but she was way too scared to have trust in people.

Fortunately, the rescuers’ expertise in dealing with such cases helped them get near Dolly.

Once in their hands, this poodle’s life took a completely different turn and she now looks like a new dog. She’s all happy and healthy and has found her forever home with people who love her unconditionally.

You can see the incredible transformation in the video below.

Border Collie herds unusual “flock of sheep” for St. Patrick’s Day

You have probably seen millions of commercials in your life, but I bet you have never seen one as hilarious and as creative as this one.

St. Patrick’s day commemorates the patron saint of Ireland and the arrival of Christianity in the country. It also celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. People wear green attires or shamrocks and spend the day with those they love. Also, a huge number of public parades and festivals are taking place all over the country on the Feast of Saint Patrick.

Source: YouTube

Sixteen people went to the grassy lands of Yorkshire for the St. Patrick’s Day sheepdog trials to witness the agility and the exceptional performance of sheep herding by Gareth Longrass’ Border Collie, and 3-time winner, Roy.

Roy puts on an incredible show, but instead of sheep, he herds the humans who came to see him.

For this St.Patrick’s day, it is Roy’s job not to let these sixteen people get on the couch or in a restaurant. Instead, he guides them all right into the pub for a cold glass of Guinness!

This is definitely something you don’t want to miss.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt testified in his parents’ custody case and didn’t have kind words to say about his father

When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became a thing back in the day, the world went crazy. As much as many felt devastated over the split between the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star and Jennifer Aniston, they were as well excited to see how the big romance that Pitt and Jolie took from the screen to real life will proceed.

Today, the famous Brangelina couple is no longer together after the Maleficent star filed for divorce in 2016, shortly after the news of an alleged incident involving Pitt and the couple’s oldest son Maddox on the family’s private plane emerged.

Although no one knows what really happened, the alleged child abuse was investigated by the FBI and the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services, and Pitt was cleared of any child abuse allegations almost immediately, as per US Weekly.

Just recently, Maddox testified against his father during the exes’ lengthy custody battle.

According to a source who spoke to US Weekly, “Maddox has already given testimony as [an] adult in the ongoing custody dispute and it wasn’t very flattering toward Brad.”

Further, the source was reported to have said: “He doesn’t use Pitt as his last name on documents that aren’t legal and instead uses Jolie. Maddox wants to legally change his last name to Jolie, which Angelina has said she doesn’t support.”

Source: Instagram

Many media outlets which follow the story of the battle over their kids between Pitt and Jolie report that Maddox and Pitt haven’t been seeing each other in years. Jolie told the court that she and the kids are willing to offer “proof and authority in support” of “testimony regarding domestic violence.”

Brangelina’s current trial should determine custody of their children and divide their estate.

We are yet to see the outcome of this lengthy battle.

Incredible rendition of “The Sound of Silence” performed by the band “Disturbed”

Simon & Garfunkel’s songs are classics. Renditions of their hits, which are as popular today as on the day they were first released, have been done by a huge number of musicians, both professional artists and amateurs. And as much as we all agree that Simon and Garfunkel’s performances can never really be beaten, the one below proves us wrong.

The performance of the iconic piece of music The Sound of Silence performed by the American alternative metal band Disturbed is something truly special. The classic was recorded for the band’s album Immortalized, which was released in 2015.

Simon himself agreed that the performance was wonderful. He shared on his Facebook a video of Disturbed singing his song on Conan’s show.

David Draiman, the group’s frontman said the band was flattered and couldn’t have hoped for a more positive outcome.

Take a look at the breathtaking performance in the video below which has been seen over 120 million times.

Michelle Obama comments on Sussexes’ bombshell interview and says she’s not surprised Meghan Markle faced racism

Ever since the bombshell interview Meghan and Harry gave to Oprah, more and more people, including celebrities and journalists, want to have a say about everything that had been said by the former royals.

Pierce Morgan, for one, has spoken openly of how he feels about Meghan from the moment she and Prince Harry started dating. After the interview, he described the former Suits actress’ comments as “vile destructive self-serving nonsense” and criticized Harry of letting her “take down” his family and the Monarchy.

Meghan shared how she was struggling with suicidal thoughts and even sought help but was told by “senior royals” that it would affect the institution’s reputation.

“Look, I was really ashamed to have to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, but I knew that if I didn’t say that, I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore,” Meghan told Oprah.

As a response, the Palace said that the issues raised by the Sussexes, including comments on how dark Archie’s skin would be before he was born, would be dealt privately.

The Queen’s statement read that “the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”

Prince William also addressed the racist allegations when asked for a comment while visiting a school in east London. He was reported saying: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

Shutterstock

Now, former FLOTUS Michele Obama, says she isn’t surprised by Meghan’s racial allegations and says it should serve as a “teachable moment” for the Royal family.

“This, first and foremost, is a family. I pray for forgiveness for them so that they can use this as teachable moment for us all,” Michelle told NBC News. “Race isn’t a new construct in this world for people of color, and so it wasn’t a complete surprise to hear her feelings and to hear them articulated.”

“Public service, it’s a bright, sharp, hot spotlight and most people don’t understand it nor should they,” Michelle further commented.

“The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us, it’s about the people that we serve, I always try to push the light back out and focus it on the folks that we’re actually here to serve.”

Meanwhile, Gayle King, Oprah’s friend and co-host of CBS ‘This Morning’ said Harry and Meghan confirmed to her that Harry spoke to both William and Prince Charles.

“It’s true, Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too, and the word I was given was that those conversations were not productive, but they are glad that they have at least started a conversation,” she said, as per British newspaper The Guardian.

The Palace, however, have not yet confirmed King’s remarks.

Baby puts on every facial expression there is while waking up

Growing up some 40 or more years ago, most of us have just a number of photos and maybe a couple of videos that our parents took of us. These memories are mostly from birthday celebrations, holidays, and graduations. Nowadays, however, with the smartphones and all the technology, we easily take a bunch of photos every single day, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise that our kids will have millions of photos of themselves while growing up.

Yes, parents tend to “immortalize” every little thing their kids do, and I guess that’s good. Just like this awesome dad who is taking lots of videos of his little boy Oliver.

The clips show different situations, many of which hilarious, just like the one captured in the video below.

The sweet bundle of joy is waking up and as he is trying to open his eyes, he puts on many different facial expressions. Going from grumpy to smiling, baby Oliver is stealing millions of hearts. Over 10 millions to be exact.

The daddy films Oliver and asks him if he had slept well, to what the little gay answers with the most adorable smile. He then changes the expression again, and puts the smile on one more time. “Give this baby an Oscar,” someone commented, while others agree that he’s so cute that they can’t stop watching him over and over again.

Take a look at the video below. Cute beyond words, don’t you agree?

Two young men watched elderly lady’s every move and offered their kindness when she needed it the most

Getting old doesn’t mean you don’t get to do many of the things you enjoyed back in the days. Many elderly know just the way how to have fun by going shopping all by themselves, eating healthy, visiting friends, and many more. This is true for those that are still vital besides their age such as this loving 93-year-old Alabama lady.

Although she is in her late 90s, she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself. She has loving neighbors who are there to lend her a helping hand when needed and is loved by everyone around. She wouldn’t trade her freedom for anything, and never considered moving into a nursing home. However, she can’t stop pondering the question of how safe it is for a woman her age to be living all alone in such a big place.

These thoughts are justified because we often hear of stories of elderly people being robbed by people who know there is no one else in the house except for the vulnerable old person. These people may not only steal their money, but their identity as well. And while she though no one was watching her, she was wrong.

Two young men from the neighborhood were observing this lady’s routine for quite some time, eagerly waiting to approach her.

Facebook/Rodney Smith Jr.

Rodney Smith Jr. and his best friend, Terrence Stroy, had something in mind. But, if your first thought was they were intending to harm their neighbor, you can’t be more wrong. These lovely men did the most amazing thing ever; assisted a woman in need. Once they noticed her lawn mover, they didn’t hesitate a bit before they took their time and effort to mow the lawn.

“We did this sweet lady’s lawn today. She is 93, the neighbors told us that she been out their trying to cut her own lawn. Have no fear, raising men lawn care is going to make sure her lawn is done every two weeks! Making a difference in our community!”

Facebook/Raising Men Lawn Care Service Hunstville

The way they felt after they saw the joy into the lady’s eyes was a call for the boys to make helping elderly and single mothers their mission. This inspired them to start a multi-state lawncare business catering. What’s most, they do it for free.

They attend school, and besides being great students, everyone says they are the best friends one can ask for. They definitely have hearts of gold.

“I thought I needed to do something about it. That’s when I decided to cut lawns for the elderly, disabled and single mothers for free.”

Their generosity is recognized by the whole community and their ingenuity is inspiring many other young men to follow into their footsteps and be useful and productive community members. Keeping children off the streets by involving them into voluntary work makes Rodney and Terrence true visionaries. They teach the kids the true values of life, and that’s being there for those in need.

Many praise their actions and encourage them to continue doing what they are doing, saying: “I love what you are doing! Keep it up!! The world could use a lot more people just like you Rodney!” and another person adds: “You are touching more hearts then you know….Proud of You!”

Below is the whole story of how everything started and what are these guys’ future plans. Take a look and share it with friends. You may inspire someone to make a good deed today.

Meet the first student with Down syndrome to graduate from university in Oregon

Nowadays, compared to the past, people with Down syndrome are provided with more opportunities. According to DoSomething.org, “since the 1970s, public schools are required by law to provide a free and appropriate education to children with Down syndrome.” Most of these people are capable of leading completely normal lives, of excelling at school, and of working a huge number of jobs, just like everyone else.

Cody Sullivan is a student with Down syndrome who proves that what we have said so far is completely true. This young man is the first person with the syndrome to graduate from college in Oregon. Cody got a degree from Concordia University and completed four years of studies.

Spurce: Ann Donaca-Sullivan

He had shown immense success when he was in elementary school as well. He was part of the West Coast Think College coalition program which helps students with Down syndrome attend regular classes.

His friends describe Cody as a hard-working student. One of them, who attended college together with him said: “So Cody would have his notes in class, that he’d taken before, that aligned to what we were working on, and then when we had a project, he’d be up there with a modified project that fit the requirements of what we were doing in class.”

Source: KATU

The best thing of all is that Cody got a job as a teacher’s aide at a local charter school. This young man is such an inspiration. We wish him even more success in the years to come. Way to go, Cody.

Take a look at the video below showing Cody’s story along with other stories of inspiring students.

A group of teens shovel neighbor’s driveway at 4:30 am so she could make it to her dialysis treatment

The harsh winter that has frozen the country this year did not bring just bad news. The snow and the extreme cold did not stop people from doing all they could just to help their families and friends.

Last winter, the Internet community’s attention was channelled to two very brave and humane brothers, Brian and Patrick Lanigan from New Jersey. These brothers, together with their friends, did something that amazed everyone who learnt about it.

The story is really fascinating. Natalie Blair, a neighbour of these two brothers, has problems with her kidneys and she has to do dialysis on a regular basis. However, the winter snowstorm set some problems in the schedule. She wasn’t able to get out of the house. Luckily, she had those two great young neighbours. They jumped into action.

Brian is the older brother in the family. He is part of the EMT and so far in many cases he has been more than helpful to Natalie. This winter, when he was not working, he also helped her with her driveway and shovelled the snow that blocked the access of the house.

After he had cleared out the show from the driveway, Brian thought he is done with neighbour for a while. He was wrong. The night when he was doing the night shift, a terrible snowstorm was coming to the town. The driveway again was blocked and Natalie wasn’t able to go to hospital. Fortunately, Brian’s brother stepped up.

Even though Patrick and his friends were supposed to go to school the next morning, they did not think twice and immediately started planning the shovelling action. Since Natalie is doing the dialysis in the mornings, their plan was to clean the driveway early in the morning, before school. That early time was 4:30 am!

Patrick and his friends gathered up in front of the house and started shovelling. By the time the sun was up, Natalie’s driveway was accessible and she was able to do her dialysis. The boys were pleased to help the lady, even though that left them without sleep. Luckily they had 2 more hours before school and they all got some rest.

These acts of compassion, help and good-doing are what we need. The terrible winter that we had had was very difficult for all of us. Imagine how people with long-term illness felt. They were scared that they will be stuck in their houses without the help they need on a regular basis. Luckily, there are people like these New Jersey boys that will do no matter what just to help the people. Bravo boys!

Their father posted some photos of the boys that night. The comments and reactions of the people are wonderful. This ‘heroic action’ was the thing that people needed in that difficult winter period.

Mom rings bell after baby daughter’s cancer recovery in heartwarming video

Leann and Patrick Borden were eagerly waiting to meet their bundle of joy. They couldn’t wait to hold their baby and become a mam and a dad. When sweet Lillian Grace was born, she brought joy and happiness into her parents’ lives. During the first couple of months, everything seemed to be just fine with the little one, but then, doctors noticed strange and rather limited movements shown by Lillian Grace.

As they wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong, they ran some tests and sadly, discovered a huge tumor in the baby’s brain stem. The growth of the tumor was affecting Lillian Grace’s body mechanism and left her with swellings.

The only thing that seemed reasonable, despite the baby’s age, was to start chemotherapy treatments.

Fortunately, the body reacted pretty well and just after three weeks, the tumor was gone and the MRI came clean. Just in case, more test were done in the month that followed, and they all showed that Lillian Grace was ready to go home.

It was a moment to remember when the girl and her parents rang the cancer-free bell.

We are so happy it all turned for the best for this brave and adorable family. Check out the whole story in the video below and make sure you share Lillian Grace’s heartwarming journey with you friends.

Son is furious and horrified as webcam catches home worker raping his Alzheimer disease stricken 83-year-old mother

An 83-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s was sexually assaulted by a care worker at the facility home where she resided. The horrific incident was witnessed by the woman’s son who had installed a camera in his mom’s room in order to remotely monitor her health. One night, he decided to check on her and saw 52-year-old Olabamidele Olumide Bewaji assaulting her.

The son was in complete shock. He started yelling and telling Bewaji to get his hands off of his mother.

The incident took place on March 8, 2021, at the Pillars of Mankato Senior Living home, some 80 miles away from Minneapolis, The Sun reports.

The police were informed of the incident and arrived at the scene soon after. There, they found the elderly woman partially dressed and having no pants and underwear. According to New York Daily News, the woman was unaware of what had happened to her. She was “confused and did not remember” the assault.

According to Fox News, the care worker denied assaulting the elderly lady he was supposed to care for, but after he was told by the authorities that a search would be conducted, he confessed to what he did. He also confessed raping the woman in February, a month before he was caught in the act. However, he tried portraying himself as a victim, and claimed it was the woman who initiated the sexual acts.

Bewaji was charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having sexual contact with a “mentally impaired, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless,” as per The Smoking Gun.

He was aware his victim was vulnerable and took advantage of her illness. We hope he will get the punishment he deserves.

Cute owls like you have never seen them before

Owls are often portrayed in films and books as wise creatures who are at the same time very affectionate and friendly. These nocturnal birds, who usually hunt by night, are among the best-camouflaged birds in nature.

I guess people got fascinated with them even more after J.K Rowling’s books and movies about Harry Potter who had an owl as a pet.

YouTube

Although some say that owls tend to avoid humans, the truth is that they are in fact sociable and only get aggressive if they feel threatened or if someone gets too close to their nest and their babies.

The video below, which is a compilation of cute owls, lets us see their gentle side. Some of them enjoy being kissed by humans, others have fun while taking a nice bath in the kitchen sink, and some even dance to the rhythm. All in all, owls are magnificent creatures, especially when they stare directly at you with their wide and shining eyes.

Who knew these birds could be so fun to be around? Check them out below, they will definitely make your day.

96-year-old WWII veteran weaves 400 hats for the Salvation Army

Not everyone can be part of the military, because it takes not only physical strength and devotion to be a soldier, but readiness to risk it all for the sake of your country and its people, too.

Tom Cornish is a 96-year-old veteran who is used to helping others. He served in the World War II, and even today, years after his service in the military is over, Tom still found a way to be of use to the people who put their life on the line on a daily basis.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic and the imposed lockdowns, Tom has plenty of free time. Although he has five children and many grandchildren, he is not able to see them often because of the risk of contracting the virus. He knows, however, that they are always there for him.

What Tom does is weaving warm hats for the Salvation Army. “If someone needs something, give it to them,” he says. “Volunteering does something to a person. You’re working for others.”

This veteran, who lives in an apartment in Champlin Shores, weaves one hat a day, but there are days, however, when he finishes two or even three hats.

“There’s people here that want me to sell them, but I won’t,” Tom says. “I give them to the Salvation Army.”

The communications director for the Salvation Army Northern Division, Dan Furry, says Tom is an inspiration and adds, “It goes to show people there’s something that everyone can do.”

So far, Tom weaved around 400 hats, and he even gives weaving lessons to other people at his senior living complex. One of his neighbors has already created 35 hats himself.

Speaking of his father, Tom’s son Jerry told Kare11 News, “This is how he got to be 96 years old, because he’s helping everybody else. Everybody’s more important than he is, in his mind.”

Awesome job Mr. Tom, and thank you for your service.

10-year-old boy accidentally shoots himself dead while playing with a gun

A 10-year-old boy lost his life after he accidentally shot himself while playing with a gun. Teon Burwell found the weapon in the house and got curious, thus took it in his arms. Unfortunately, the gun fired and shot Teon in the arm. The bullet went through to his other arm and hit an artery, according to the boy’s grandma, Louise Shelton, who spoke to WTVR.com about the tragedy.

Teon, whom his family and friends called Tootie, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

At the time of the accident, he was with his 12-year-old brother. Richmond Police released a statement saying they are yet to discover how the boy ended up with the gun and added they are not searching for suspects and are treating the case as an accident.

His aunt, Maria Shelton, described Teon as a fun and great kid who always laughed. She also urged people to keep their weapons out of the reach of kids in hopes of tragedies like this one from happening in the future. “He should’ve never had a way to get access to a firearm at the age of 10, period,” Shelton said. “It was an accident, but he’s gone. If you have guns lock them up and keep them far away.”

Family members have identified the 10-year-old boy who was shot and killed on Richmond’s Southside Tuesday evening as…

Couple charged with torture and murder of 4-year-old daughter sentenced to 32 years in prison almost ten years later

The justice for 4-year-old Samiah Christine Cornell Downing who was severely abused by her father Ronald Dean Greer and his girlfriend Bianca Annie Mae Stanch and died as a result of the cruel treatment has finally been served.

After almost 10 years, the monsters have been sentenced to 32 years in prison but many believe the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.

The couple was charged back in 2012 for first-degree murder but the trial was delayed over and over again until Oct. 6, 2020 when they were found guilty and then sentenced in March of this year.

According to the San Bernardino County District Attorney Justin Crocker, Stanch hated her boyfriend’s daughter and did all in her power to make the little girl’s life a living hell. The father didn’t intervene and even took part in the abuse.

“Witnesses also testified that Stanch and Greer duct-taped Samiah’s wrists and ankles together on multiple occasions and left her overnight so that she could not get out to get water,” Crocker shared in a Facebook post.

In one occasion, little Samiah managed to get to the kitchen and drank the only liquid she could reach, which unfortunately was a cleaning solution. A day before she died, Samiah was beaten and forced to stay in the corner for eight hours. The abuse continued the following day when “Stanch poured a pot of boiling water on Samiah’s back and chest. Samiah was also denied water to drink during these final days of her life.”

On the night of her death, Samiah was left in the apartment with Stanch’s cousin Rayshawn Stanch while Stanch and Greer went to a restaurant.

When they got back home, the girl was already dead. It was determined she died of dehydration. She was also starved.

The three took the girl’s body, put it in the car, and buried it in a shallow grave in the desert.

“Friends, family members, and teachers testified about the sweet and happy little girl they knew and loved.”

The father claimed he wasn’t aware of the abuse his daughter suffered from the hands of his girlfriend, but evidence said otherwise.

“Unfortunately, because of the actions of her father and his girlfriend, Samiah wasn’t here to tell her own story to the jurors. Thankfully, the evidence at trial told the tragic story for her. Samiah was betrayed by the people closest to her and they have now been held accountable for that betrayal,” the deputy said.

“Torturing a child in San Bernardino County will be met with the most vigorous of prosecutions, and those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. When Samiah was murdered, our community was also greatly affected by the actions of her killers. From Samiah’s extended family, friends, and teachers, to the law enforcement officers investigating this crime, to everyone in the district attorney’s office that had a part in this case, we will always hold Samiah in our memory and our hearts,” the deputy added.

Rest in peace, Samiah.
