Women in the Army Are Sharing Harrowing Stories of Sexual Harassment Using #IAmVanessaGiullen

The missing of Private First-Class Vanessa Guillen started a movement by the women in the military who are sharing their stories of sexual harassment while on duty. They are using the hashtag #IAmVanessaGuillen.

Guillen, 20, went missing on April 22. She was last seen at the Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas, after she told her family how she felt unsafe on the job because she was sexually harassed by a sergeant.

Volunteers who went searching for Guillen found remains and some of her belongings. They asked from the military to order an investigation regarding Guillen’s allegations, which the 3rd Cavalry Regiment commander did.

Women in the military know that they can’t be silenced any longer. They have to raise their voice and tell their story because of Guillen, themselves, and all the girls who ever dream of serving the country.

The testimonies come from current members as well as veterans and their words are chilling. The truth is being revealed and things have to change.

Army veteran Maira Carrier is just one of the numerous women who were sexually harassed. Upon Guillen’s story, she took to Facebook to share her own experience, writing, “I came in the Army when I was 17 years old. I was a victim of sexual assault and harassment as a child and I thought that the Army was my ticket out of that life, but instead I came into an even more painful world. Right before getting on the bus for basic training the airport reception NCO kept me back in the airport as the others went to the training center. He took me to a corner to avoid being seen, then proceeded to hit on me and grab the inside of my leg. I said I was 17 on multiple occasions,’ she recalls. “He gave me his personal cell phone number, the reception number to contact him, his emails (work and personal), and explained to me that he could help me have fun when I get to advanced individual training. I turned all his information to my DS, who said they were going to take care of it. Later in my career I looked up this individual and he had been promoted twice. It was as if my complaint made no impact in his career,” Carrier finishes her story.

The hashtag #IAmVanessaGuillen triggered the truth that has been put under the rug to finally come to light. These brave women feel like they owe it to Guillen and are standing for her because she can no longer fight for herself.

The sad reality is that many still feel scared and ashamed to confess the assaults. We hope things will change and no women will ever have to be assaulted and harassed in any way.

Two Best Friends of Different Races Start a Movement to Fight Hate That Has the Neighbors Talking

Benjamin Smith and Marcus Ellis, two best friends of different races, are the change they want to see in the world.

These young men portray an image that we want to see more often in the society and show that race should never be the reason why people feel distant, instead, the differences should only make them closer and more accepting of one another.

Smith, who is Caucasian, and Ellis, who is African American, have been friends for many years. But today, they want to show everyone how the death of George Floyd, a black man killed by a white police officer, that touched them deeply didn’t brought them apart, on the contrary, they became even closer and want to share the message that people can be only good and bad and never judged based on their race or appearance.

“I fought for a free America, a just America. And when I heard about the George Floyd incident, I just, it really really upset me. That’s not what I fought for,” Smith who is a former marine said.

Both Smith and Ellis support the movement Black Lives Matter, but are convinced the protests shouldn’t be nothing but peaceful, because that is the only way the message of everyone taking part in that movement to be spread.

In order to raise people’s awareness of the fact that violence is never an option, these two came with a great idea. They put some signs in front of Smith’s home saying, “Black or White” and “Relax and have a beer” and placed an extra chair for those who want to join them and share a drink with them.

Interestingly enough, many people who saw the friends chilling decided to stop and chat about the unrest that is happening in the country and what could be done for things to get better in the future.

The friends’ “movement” on their own reached the news and many agree how what they do to fight hate and racism is awesome.

Although they are perfectly aware things will take time to be put on the right path in America, they are glad they are serving as an example of how people who are “different” should come together.

Celtic Thunder Sings ‘Amazing Grace’ Like It’s Never Been Sung Before

‘Amazing Grace’ was first published back in 1779 and was written some years earlier by famous English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton. The story behind this masterpiece known as a Christian hymn is a story of enlightenment and trust in the mercy and power of God.

Newton wasn’t always a religious person, on the contrary, Christianity and religion in general were very distant to him up until a moment in his life when he sought from God to spare his life.

Source: Wikipedia

Namely, when he was still young, he was forced to serve the Royal Navy, but didn’t see that as his calling and tried to escape. His plan failed, however, and Newton was publicly flogged in front of the whole crew, receiving 96 lashes. After he was transferred to another ship, the crew left him in he hands of a slave dealer from South Africa where he ended being a slave for the Princess Peye of the Sherbro people. This princess was known as a cruel woman who treated her slaves awfully. There, Newton learned the cruel reality behind the life of the slaves and did all in his power to put an end to slavery once he was set free.

It was during his rescue, when his father sent a ship to get him home, that he discovered God. Horrific storm hit the ship and Newton turned to God to please him to be saved. After the storm was over and he was safe and sound he knew God and Christianity were his calling, so he became a priest. The hymn, Amazing Grace, has been written as a result of this experience.

Teen Takes to the Buffalo Streets to Clean Up after Protests and is Gifted a Scholarship and a Car

The protests under the movement Black Lives Matter are still taking place all over the country and people get on the streets asking for the police brutality to be put to an end.

And while they make sure they spread their message across, they leave garbage on the streets.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

18-year-old Antonio Gwynn Jr. from Buffalo, New York, wants to make sure the Bailey Avenue, where he resides, gets cleaned after the protests are over.

So, without even thinking twice, this young man took a broom and a trash bag and started sweeping and cleaning the road at 2 am. He knew people would use the road in the morning and walking on litter and broken glass wouldn’t be pleasant, so he just wanted to make something nice for the members of his community.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

Believe it or not, Gwynn spent 10 hours cleaning the streets. Seeing him working hard to get the litter and the waste off of the neighborhood, some of the neighbors decided to organize and help. But at the time they arrived, Gwynn had already done most of the work himself.

His selfless deed made Gwynn sort of a celebrity in his community and everyone knew he was a great young man. Gwynn’s mother died two years ago, but we are sure she’s looking at him from Heaven and is proud of him.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

The community wanted to step in for him after they learned he wanted to attend college and was working to save some money up. The first person to help was a man named Matt Block who gave Gwynn his 2004 red Mustang convertible. He said he was planning on selling it, but once he noticed Gwynn was asking for car-buying advice on Facebook, he knew this young teen was just the person to have his car. This meant the world to Gwynn especially because his mother drove a red Mustang before she died.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

This was just the first of the series of good deeds the community did for Gwynn. After a man named Bob Briceland learned of the teen and Block’s gift, he offered 3 years of free auto insurance through his agency. “I just felt compelled to help him out. We just need to get together our whole city and show people how there’s so many good people here,” Briceland told WKBW News.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

The best is yet to come. Medaille College in Buffalo offered the teen a full scholarship so he will be will majoring in business this coming Fall.

Source: Screenshot via WKBW TV/YouTube

We are so glad there are young people like Gwynn out there who care for the community and want to be important part of it. And for the city and all the people who paid him forward, they are inspiring others to be as kind and as thoughtful as Gwynn, and that is how things should be done if we want to make this world a better place for everyone.

You can take a look at the video of Gwynn below.

High School Wouldn’t Let Star-Student Attend Her Grad Ceremony Because of Her Braided Hair

High school graduation ceremony is something every graduate is looking forward to. It is a time of celebrating success and cherishing a chapter of the students’ lives.

But what happens if the school forbids someone from attending such an important event because of a bizarre reason?

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

Kienjanae “KJ” Hooper is an excellent student with straight A’s in all her subjects. Not even the global pandemic stood on her way of receiving a certificate of achievement. Her parents are very proud of her, not only because of her success at school, but also because she’s a great kid.

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

Despite the pandemic, the school she attends, Gladewater High School in Texas, organized a graduation ceremony, following the rules of social distancing.

Kienjanae was overly excited to meet her friends again, but then the principal, Cathy Bedair, called her mom just four days before the event and told her how Kienjanae couldn’t attend it because of her braided hair. Both Kienjanae and her mom were shocked to hear that, especially because Kienjanae attended classes with that same hairstyle and it was never an issue up until that moment.

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

Of course, Kienjanae’s mom, Kieana, wouldn’t accept something like that so she contacted a lawyer to see whether the school had the right to forbid her daughter from being around her friends on the most important day of her life.

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

Once the lawyer contacted the school, they said how the principal made a completely different request from what the mother and daughter said she did. Apparently, the problem wasn’t in the braids, but Kienjanae’s dyed hair.

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

So, the school offered a compromise, to let Kienjanae attend the graduation ceremony only if she wore a cap. Of course, the family didn’t accept this as they believed the school was making a huge deal out of nothing.

Source: KJ Hooper/Facebook

When the graduation day came around, Kienjanae put on her lovely dress and wore her dyed hair with pride. She looked truly stunning.

We are glad this excellent student got to enjoy her special day, but we can’t help but wonder how could the principal make her go through so much stress over a hairstyle and come up with rules just days before the ceremony.

Man Films Being Kicked Out by Store Employee for Not Wearing Mask, People Take Employee’s Side

Now that social distancing became our reality, the World Health Organization is urging each of us to follow the recommendations and help fight the deadly coronavirus. In addition to that, we need to wear masks and cover our mouth and nose whenever we are in public, especially when shopping and being around other people.

Source: Pexels

The biggest problem is that many people refuse to obey the rules and believe they are immune to the virus that is still spreading very quickly in almost every country of the world.

That is why many businesses impose their own rules and demand from the clients and customers to wear masks when using their services. Despite that, there are clients who choose not to respect them and it leads to incidents such as that involving a Reddit user who goes by the name u/foamlab. Namely, he shared how he didn’t wear a mask while shopping and apparently one of the employees took his cart and harassed him because of that. “Costco employee breaks social distancing guidelines to harass me and take my cart because I didn’t have a mask on,” he wrote hoping to receive sympathy from people. But he got just the opposite.

Source: Screenshot via Galaxy Views/Reddit

People said how he wasn’t really harassed, just asked to follow the company’s rules and respect their policy and stood on the side of the employee Tison who could be heard saying, “Hi everyone! I work for Costco and I’m asking this member to put on a mask because that is our company policy.”

Source: Screenshot via Galaxy Views/Reddit

Many Redditors got angry with the man filming saying he was putting many at risk by not wearing a mask.

Instead of whining that “he woke up in a free country” and “he’s not a sheep” he should have think about others instead of being stubborn and getting into an argument with the employee who was only doing his job.

Source: Screenshot via Galaxy Views/Reddit

“Costco is a membership club and it’s also private property. When you sign up for a membership, you sign the application saying that you agree to follow the rules, which may change at any time: ‘Membership is subject to any and all rules adopted by Costco including our privacy policies and practices, and they may be amended from time to time without notice,’” one user wrote.

“So you went into the store knowing the rules, put yourself and everyone else at risk, immediately became offensive when confronted, fully made an ass of yourself, and then decided to post it on Reddit. you really should work on developing a sense of shame,” another added.

After the public backlash he received, the user deleted the video along with his account.

Thank God there are people out there like those users who took the employee’s side and helped spread awareness of the seriousness of the pandemic.

German Restaurant Owner Bans Children Under 14 from Dining

Parents these days seem to be letting their children behave the way they want. They are not as nearly as strict as our parents were back in the day and that results in generations who don’t know how to act in public properly.

Well, one restaurant owner, Rudolf Markl, couldn’t put up with the unattended children of customers running around the place and doing what they please, disturbing other guests, so he dealt with it in a very unconventional manner. He simply forbade children under the age of 14 dinning at Oma’s Kuche (Grandma’s Kitchen,) and turned the place into an adult-only restaurant.

Source: Wikipedia

Markl says how he had spent years of hard work to turn the restaurant into a nice establishment with a great atmosphere, but kids screaming and fighting there every single day seemed to be leading towards ruining all that. What frustrated Markl the most was the fact that no parent ever tried to calm their children down. They seemed not to care what their youngsters were doing and it was left to the place’s staff to tell the kids how to behave, which is something their moms and dads should have done before taking them out.

Source: DW

The breaking point that led to his decision to ban kids from his restaurant was an unpleasant incident that took place recently. Namely, two kids were running around the place, and as their parents did nothing, he had to run after them making sure they don’t bother the rest of the customers. However, they wouldn’t stop making a mess and one of them broke some antiques that were very expensive and of great value to Markl.

Source: Francebrocantes/Instagram

The pieces of history were smashed right in front of Markl’s eyes.

What was most frustrating of all is that the parents barely apologized, defending their kids because, you know, they are just kids.

However, no matter how angry and frustrated Markl was over the incident, it was something that he could use to back his decision for not letting children in.

He was happy now, but also knew that banning children at all times could affect the business, so he decided they were allowed at the restaurant but only until 5 p.m. This way, at least the evenings would be calm and enjoyable for the customers.

Source: DW

As expected, many parents weren’t happy with this ban and said their children were discriminated. And as it turned out, the German law says the same. But even though he knows his no-children policy could be ruled as being illegal, he’s not willing to let go of it, even if that means spending time and money in court.

Source: DW

We are not yet certain what will happen in the future, but as for now, Markl can enjoy his quiet nights at his restaurant.

It looks like other restaurant owners, including some in America, are sharing Markl’s opinion and are establishing similar policies. Take a look at the video below to learn more.

Teacher Is Left Heartbroken after Reading Her Worst Student’s Personal File

Teachers can have lifelong impact on their students as what they do goes way beyond teaching them different things about different subjects. The story of a teacher named Jean Thompson and a very special student named Teddy Stoddard is the perfect example of that. This touching story will melt your heart. Read it below.

Jean Thompson stood in front of her fifth-grade class on the very first day of school in the fall and told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her pupils and said that she loved them all the same, that she would treat them all alike. And that was impossible because there in front of her, slumped in his seat on the third row, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed he didn’t play well with the other children, that his clothes were unkept and that he constantly needed a bath. And Teddy was unpleasant.

It got to the point during the first few months that she would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X’s and then marking the F at the top of the paper biggest of all. Because Teddy was a sullen little boy, no one else seemed to enjoy him, either.

At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child’s records and put Teddy’s off until last. When she opened his file, she was in for a surprise. His first-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is a bright, inquisitive child with a ready laugh.” “He does his work neatly and has good manners…he is a joy to be around.”

His second-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is an excellent student well-liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle.”

His third-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy continues to work hard but his mother’s death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best but his father doesn’t show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren’t taken.”

Teddy’s fourth-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is withdrawn and doesn’t show much interest in school. He doesn’t have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class. He is tardy and could become a problem.”

By now Mrs. Thompson realized the problem, but Christmas was coming fast. It was all she could do, with the school play and all, until the day before the holidays began and she was suddenly forced to focus on Teddy Stoddard.

Her children brought her presents, all in beautiful ribbon and bright paper, except for Teddy’s, which was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper of a scissored grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents.

Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of cologne. She stifled the children’s laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume behind the other wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed behind just long enough to say, “Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my mom used to.”

After the children left she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing, and speaking. Instead, she began to teach children. Jean Thompson paid particular attention to one they all called “Teddy.”

As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. On days where there would be an important test, Mrs. Thompson would remember that cologne. By the end of the year he had become one of the smartest children in the class and…well, he had also become the “pet” of the teacher who had once vowed to love all of her children exactly the same.

A year later she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that of all the teachers he’d had in elementary school, she was his favorite. Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy.

He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still his favorite teacher of all time.

Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he’d stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson she was still his favorite teacher.

Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor’s degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still his favorite teacher, but that now his name was a little longer. The letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, M.D.

The story doesn’t end there. You see, there was yet another letter that Spring. Teddy said he’d met this girl and was to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering…well, if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit in the pew usually reserved for the mother of the groom. And guess what, she wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. And I bet on that special day, Jean Thompson smelled just like…well, just like the way Teddy remembered his mother smelling on their last Christmas together.

The moral of this story is that we should always mind the way we treat others because we never know what emotions our actions can trigger and how they will impact those around us.

Sisters, 14 and 12, Killed by Falling Bricks as They Both Laid in Their Backyard Hammock

Two sisters from Ohio, aged 14 and 12, lost their lives in a freak accident that occurred in their family backyard. Reports say that Scout and Casey Scaravilli were lying in the hammock that was tied to a brick pillar and a tree when the pillar collapsed and the bricks fell on them and crushed them.

They were taken to hospital but were pronounced dead a couple of hours later, Fox 8 Cleveland reported.

Their family and the whole community are grieving over the loss of the girls and are left heartbroken. Hathaway Brown Head of School Fran Bisselle said “They will be greatly missed by so many friends, classmates, and teachers. Our thoughts and prayers are dedicated to their family.”

Daily Mail spoke with the girls’ father who said he was at the backyard at the time of the incident but everything happened “in an instant.” He couldn’t believe a brick pillar could fall just like that.

The incident is still under investigation. Scout and Casey left behind their parents and two younger twin sisters. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Body of Girl with Special Needs Found Stuffed into a Dressing Drawer in Her Mother and Boyfriend’s Bedroom

India Martin was a four-year-old girl with special needs who wasn’t really loved by her mother. On Tuesday, May 26, the remains of this sweet girl were found stuffed in a bag kept inside a drawer in her mother and her boyfriend’s bedroom.

Authorities were shocked by the horrific sight and the tragedy that took place in the home of Jackleen Elizabeth Mullen and Audrevious Jarrell Williams who showed no remorse over the death of the little girl. Investigation started after police got a call of child neglect, but India’s mother said how the girl was staying with a family in South Carolina. When police reached the family, they said the girl was not with them.

“We found this child, dead, stuffed in a drawer,” Rock Hill police Det. Keenan McCrorey said in court. “We ask that bond be denied.”

Both the mother and her boyfriend were charged with homicide by child abuse or neglect after India’s autopsy revealed signs of abuse and respiratory distress. Those who were supposed to take care of her, killed her. The couple has other children, one four-year-old child of Jackleen and a one-year-old she has with Audrevious. He has a 7-year-old child from his previous relationship. They can no longer have contact with any of the children and are denied bail.

When sweet India was born prematurely at only 26 weeks, she was tested positive for cocaine and had to be treated at the neonatal unit at a Columbia hospital. Back then, Jackleen was only given two years of probation and four years after, that same child was brutally abused, killed, and stuffed in a drawer.

The Sun reported that Jackleen had broken the law before. In 2014, she was convicted for larceny and forgery.

At the time, the Rock Hill police, the York County Coroner’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division child fatality unit are investigating the death of India. The killers may end up serving a life in prison.

New Jersey High School ‘Intentionally’ Leaves Student with Special Needs Out of Yearbook

High school years are the best time of most people’s lives. It is a period when we make friends for life and enjoy our youth partying and having fun. So, it is obvious that when this time comes to an end, we look forward to the yearbook that we can always go back to and recall what life was when we lived the best years of it.

But what happens if your photo is not included in this precious book that marks one chapter of your existence? It must be heartbreaking to be the only person left out from the valuable “memento.” Sadly, a New Jersey high school, Watchung Hills Regional High School, failed to include a photo of Glenda, a student with special needs in the yearbook, and her sister Claudia DeFabio says it was done intentionally.

“While the faculty and staff who teach her and her classmates every day were acknowledged, Glenda was not,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

“Everyone in the special education department was acknowledged: except the students.”

Glenda’s mom was asked to sign a media release for her daughter, but no one ever mentioned the yearbook. The family felt devastated and angry because they didn’t know what to tell Glenda when she couldn’t find her photo in the book.

“Imagine the heartbreak my mother felt having to explain to my sister why she wasn’t in the yearbook. And Glenda not being able to understand how she was seen as different than her general education classmates.”

DeFabio felt the urge to share what happened to Glenda, because most of the time, people with special needs don’t stand for themselves.

The post gained a lot of attention and people showed their support. In no time, the family heard from the school and received an apology for leaving Glenda out. They offered to send a supplemental yearbook with Glenda’s photo in it.

“We are investigating what occurred and are currently looking to see if any other un-intentional omissions were made. We intend to carefully review our processes to avoid any erroneous omissions in the future,” said Elizabeth C. Jewett, superintendent of the school district, speaking to News 12 New Jersey.

“And finally, since the 2,500+ students and faculty didn’t get the honor of seeing Glenda’s yearbook photo, at least the internet can.”

We are truly sorry Glenda and her family had to go through such experience. Thankfully, this student has her sister by her side who wants Glenda to be accepted and loved for who she is.

Heartbroken husband honors late wife by planting 6,000 oak trees for her, hiding a shape in the middle

Some people are lucky enough to find their soulmate during their lifetime. Others strive for that one person who makes their life complete and fills it with strong emotions that are worth living for.

For a man named Winston Howes, that special person was his wife Janet. The two first met back in 1962 and fell in love the moment they laid eyes on one another.

Their love and affection was so strong that people often wondered how it was even possible for them to never get into any fights.

Fb

But life can be cruel at times, and what this couple had was crashed into pieces when Janet passed away.

Not having her around wasn’t a reason for Winston to stop loving her. In fact, what he did to show his devotion stole the hearts of millions of people from all around the world.

Trying to hope with his grief, Winston got himself busy and planted 6000 oak trees around their house. Once the trees grew, the place resembled a paradise on Earth, but no one really knew that the trees were hiding a secret.

One day, however, a man riding a hot air balloon above Winston’s property realized that the trees were planted in the shape of a heart.

FB

The tip of the heart points to Wotton Hill and the house where Janet spent her childhood and in the middle of the heart there is a meadow of daffodils.

Fb

This truly is what love is all about. Winston’s feelings for Janet are everlasting and the way he honored her life is incredibly touching and beautiful.

One Woman Explains Why You Should Never Use the Term “Half-Sibling”

What makes a family? Is it the same blood that runs through people’s veins? Or is it the life experiences that make us so close to someone that we can’t imagine our life without those individuals by our side?

Source: Lars Ploughmann/Flickr

A woman named Rochaun feels the urge to speak up of the society’s norms that put labels on some of the family ties, such as those of “half-brother” and “half-sister”. She starts her story saying how she and her brother share the same mother but different fathers. Despite that, she and her sibling has always called one another a brother and a sister. They grew up together and did all the things siblings with same parents do.

However, once she grew older she heard many referring to them as “half-siblings” and she got really offended whenever she would hear that word.

One would say that is a term used for many years to describe what she and her brother really are, but Rochaun feels that being called “half-sister” somehow lessens the role she plays in her brother’s life.

Source: A. Rochaun, Writer/Facebook

She has always loved her brother unconditionally and consider him just that, her brother. Not a half-sibling as many say.

So, she felt like she had to ask people not to call her her brother’s half-sister ever again. She simply knew she had the right to do so, but people wouldn’t understand why that bothered her so much.

“I’m not putting up with anyone who tries to downplay the bond I have with my brother just because we only share one parent,” she says.

Source: Jennyreimold/Instagram

If two kids from different families are adopted by the same parents they will always be referred to as siblings, not “unrelated siblings” or even “adopted siblings” so why the need to label siblings who only share one parent?

We have to agree that Rochaun has a good point and she has all the right to refuse to be called half-sister. So next time you are around someone who has a sibling they share one parent with, make sure you don’t say they are just half related.

Pizza Delivery Guy Saves Woman’s Life with Heroic Action

One 55-year-old Grafton man faces several counts of domestic abuse concerning his ex-girlfriend – he beaten and tied her up after showing up uninvited at her house.

It was a Domino’s delivery man who had alerted local police after the woman mouthed “help me” during the delivery.

“It’s kind of scary. Gave him his pizza, and noticed behind him was his girlfriend. She pointed to a black eye that was quite visible. She mouthed the words ‘call police,'” recalled Joey Grundl, who was the woman’s savior. The ex-boyfriend, Dean Hoffmann, was charged with the following: kidnapping, false imprisonment, strangulation, suffocation, felony intimidation of a victim, and burglary of a building.

At 1 p.m. on 27 September 2018, the man had entered her home. The woman told Hoffmann to leave and wanted to call the police. However, Hoffmann snatched the phone, grabbed her by the waist and dragged her upstairs. He shoved her, pulled her hair and ripped her shirt. The woman tried to fight back by hitting Hoffmann in the groin, but he punched her in the face – and she ended up with a blackened eye and bloody nose while being locked up in her own bathroom.

Hoffmann then tied her hands and feet together with a power cord and shoved a towel in her mouth to silence her. The woman experienced trouble breathing and feared for the worst – until he decided to call for some Pizza from Domino’s.

After Grundl’s arrival, local authorities arrived at the house and heard the woman yell “help me” and “please come in.” Hoffmann had no choice but to open the door, got questioned and arrested.

Racist Customer Demands Black Delivery Driver to be Replaced With White Employee

Those people who believe that racism isn’t an issue in America any longer must be either innocent or silly. It looks like Americans have long road to go until they stop seeing people as different because of the color of their skin.

YouTube / CBS6 Albany

Marcus Bradley is a black man who has experienced racism and believes his company did nothing to protect him in the case. Namely, Bradley was a delivery truck driver for Lowe’s hardware chain in Danville, Virginia, for over 10 years and he never believed his manager wouldn’t stand for him when a customer asked for him to be replaced with a white driver for her delivery.

It was back in 2015 when Bradley delivered a truck full of items at a designated house and was about to get back to the store for the rest of the goods when he got a call from the manager. He told him Bradley won’t be getting back because the customer complained. When Bradley asked what he did wrong, the manager said the woman didn’t want a black man at her house.

Neither Bradley nor his colleague Alex Brooke, who was with him in the truck at the time, could believe what they had just heard.

“To me, you know, it just ain’t right for a business that we work in to go on with the woman’s wishes,” Alex said. They weren’t that mad at the customer as they were with the manager who put the client’s absurd wish before the loyal employee.

Once back at the store, another driver, a white one, was assigned for the delivery instead of Bradley and that’s when Brook refused to take part in the delivery as well. So Brook was the only person who stood by Bradley and the company replaced both of them for this particular delivery.

Bradley was very upset because his company did nothing to protect him.

Local news tried reaching the racist customer who kept saying she had all the right to choose who delivers things to her house and didn’t feel remorse for asking the company to replace Bradley with another employee. “No, I don’t feel bad about nothing,” she said.

In a statement, Lowe’s said that how their manager “handled” the issue with the rude customer doesn’t correspond with their policy and they are sad Bradley, a loyal employee of many years, had to go through something that upsetting and humiliating. The manager in question has since been fired.

“Under no circumstances should a discriminatory delivery request be honored as it is inconsistent with our diversity and inclusion core values and the request should have been refused,” the statement read.

This incident took place five years ago, and that only speaks of the fact that not much has changed regarding the issue of racism in our country.

Las Vegas Police Officer Shot in the Head During Protests Remains in Critical Condition

Officer Shay Mikalonis was shot during a peaceful protest supporting the Black Lives Matter movement near the Circus Circus casino in Las Vegas. Mikalonis was on the job when the accident happened and the police statement released on the behalf of his family said he is now paralyzed from the neck down, on a ventilator, and unable to speak.

Mikalonis is still in a very critical condition and is treated at the trauma unit at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

“Shay is on a ventilator and will be for the foreseeable future or perhaps the rest of his life,” the statement read.

“He had a set back today, but the outstanding staff at UMC is working hard to get his vitals back under control.”

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as 20-year-old Edgar Samaniego who has since been arrested and held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center, charged with attempted murder and battery and firearms charges.

Samaniego said he shot because he wanted to scare off protesters and never aimed at anyone as he apparently didn’t even know the police was there.

Las Vegas Review Journal wrote how the bullet pierced Mikalonis’ spine and lodged in the right side of his face.

Our thoughts and prayers are with officer Mikalonis and his family. We hope he will pull through.

Mom Hits and Kills Her 19-month-old Daughter by Accident as She Backs Car into Driveway

A devastating tragedy took place on June 6 of this year in Bayswater, Australia, after a 19-month-old girl was accidentally killed by her mother. The little girl somehow managed to get to the driveway all by herself just when her mom, Lara Elllis, was backing her car. The mother had no idea her daughter, Aurora, was there and hit her. Screams and cries could be heard, but at the time emergency arrived, they said the little girl was killed upon impact.

No one really knows how sweet Aurora got out without anyone noticing her. Needless to say, the whole family is crushed and grief-stricken as they morn the loss of their baby girl whose father always said was “the little sun that shines so bright.”

Matthew Rann, a long-life friend of the Ellis family said, “She was known as Dad’s little tradie assistant, he referred to her as, with her name meaning ‘goddess of the dawn,’ he referred to her as his little star, or his little sun, that shines so bright. In Preston’s words (Aurora’s dad), they’ve had sleepless nights, finding it hard to breathe. Feeling absolutely numb.”

Matthew started a GoFundMe page along with his wife, hoping to help Aurora’s family with the funeral expenses.

“Aurora grew wings and flew from the earth in a tragic accident that has left her little family broken,” the page reads.

A huge number of people paid tributes to the little girl and hope her family would stay strong during these hard times. Many wanted to help financially, and for now, around $37,000 have been raised.

“Preston and Lara are the most genuine, giving and caring people around and now it’s our turn to help them in the most generous way we can,” the fundraiser reads.

Rest in peace little angel!

New York Police Union Head Tells People to Stop Treating Officers ‘Like Animals and Thugs’

Protests by people supporting the Black Lives Matter movement are still being held in many places all over the country. The death of George Floyd who was killed by officer Derek Chauvin after he had his knee on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes made many lose their trust in the police and are asking for the brutality by the officers to finally stop.

Many officers, however, spoke up and are asking from the public not to judge them and their profession based on what Chauvin did.

Mike O’Meara, the president of the New York Police Benevolent Association, is one of them. Recently, he held a press-conference for the media asking from them and the rest of the people to stop treating them as they are all Derek Chauvin. He started his speech saying the police is making 375 million interactions and that many positive responses a year with the public, wanting to highlight their profession is now being humiliated.

He said the media is presenting stories saying how black children are afraid to go home from school fearing a cop may kill them, and says that can never happen because that’s nonsense.

“What world are we living in? That doesn’t happen. It does not happen!” he said.

“I am not Derek Chauvin. They are not him. He killed someone. We didn’t. We are restrained.

“Everybody’s trying to shame us. The legislators. The press. Everybody’s trying to shame us into being embarrassed of our profession.”

He then showed his badge and continued, “You know what? This isn’t stained by someone in Minneapolis. It’s still got a shine on it, and so do theirs.

“Stop treating us like animals and thugs, and start treating us with some respect! That’s what we’re here today to say. We’ve been left out of the conversation. We’ve been vilified. It’s disgusting.

“We don’t condone Minneapolis. We roundly reject what he did as disgusting. It’s disgusting! It’s not what we do. It’s not what police officers do.”

The video of O’Meara’s speech can be seen below.

It’s no question that reforms in the police are needed, but not all officers should be treated as bad people because one of them did something awful while on the job. The death of Floyd was a huge tragedy, yet there are many officers who would never harm any of the citizens they are sworn to protect.

Heartbroken Husband Shares Photos of Pregnant Wife and Unborn Baby after They Were Killed by a Drunk Driver

A man named Zach Kincaid experienced a tragic loss. His whole world was crushed when his beloved wife and their unborn child were killed by an intoxicated driver.

Zach’s wife, Krystil, was eight months pregnant when the drunk driver identified as professional boxer Marcos Forestal hit their Chrysler minivan with his BMX. At the time of the accident, Kyistil was on the phone with Zach who could hear her cries and screams.

It was later reported by People how Forestal went life on the social media crying about his damaged car, probably still unaware of the real damage he caused. “A car crossed in front of me and look what happened to my car,” he could be heard saying.

Immediately after the incident, Helmet Police Department arrested Forestal and said he “showed symptoms of intoxication.”

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help the grieving husband and his four children with the funeral.

“When officers arrived they found the Chrysler was ‘partially on fire,’ but officers were able to quickly extinguish the flames. Despite extinguishing the fire, officials could not immediately pull the victim from her vehicle, due to the extensive amount of damage her mini-van sustained, which had pinned both the victim’s legs under the dash of her Chrysler. Firefighters used the ‘Jaws of Life’ to extricate the trapped woman from her vehicle and she was air-lifted to an area trauma center…” the page said.

Zach recalls the time his kids, two daughters, 14 and 11, and two sons, 8 and 4, went to the hospital. They believed they would meet their little baby sister, not knowing they were about to hear the news that would broke their hearts.

“They thought they had a baby sister here,” Zach said speaking to KTLA. “They got the worst news of their life. They were told that they don’t have a mom, or a baby sister, anymore.”

After the loss, Zach wanted to raise awareness of the fatal consequences of driving under influence. What is even more heartbreaking for this devastated husband and father is that his baby daughter whose name was supposed to be Avalynn wasn’t considered victim because she wasn’t born, although she was a fully grown baby inside her mother’s womb. He hopes things will change and urges people to sign the petition at change.org.

“The max sentence for killing my wife and daughter is 10 years max. The state of California doesn’t think there was intent, but I know driving recklessly in that manner, he didn’t intend anything good….” Zach wrote on his Facebook page.

“My daughter’s due date was October 9th, a 36 week old fully developed baby isnt considered a person in the state of California. How do I explain to my children this injustice. My children and I have never felt so disposable… Look at the devastation left behind that is my family and tell me it isn’t time for change….imagine if this was your family… Who will fight with me for change? Who will spread this like wild fire? Who will write their representatives and demand change?? We cannot as a society look the other way any longer. Driving drunk is intent..”

“Demand change before your family is next… I felt it was important to show my children that monsters don’t have fangs or are some mystical creatures, monsters are people and they got to see a real one yesterday. Both of my girls stood up yesterday and spoke for their mother against this monster,” Zach told People.

Forestal was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but Krystil and Avalynn’s family believes it’s not enough for what he did to them.

We hope Zach and his children would be able to overcome the grief and sadness their hearts are filled with eventually and would be able to move on. This is such a tragic story.

White Woman, a Lawyer, Arrested for Spitting on 17-year-old Black Protester

With the protests taking place all over the country after the killing of George Floyd by a member of the police, we still witness assaults based on race and we truly wonder if the issue of racism will ever end.

During one of the protests as part of the movement Black Lives Matter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a white lawyer was filmed spitting on a 17-year-old protester. The 64-year-old woman, Stephanie Rapkin, has since been arrested. She was also reported to had kneed on an officer.

Rapkin parked her car on the way of the protesters and refused to move it. “She won’t move her car, so we can’t go. She won’t move her car,” the person filming could be heard saying.

Speaking to WDJT, the teen who got spit on by Rapkin, Eric Lucas, said he was “mentally and physically shaken to be assaulted by an adult in my own community during a pandemic.”

“That my people and me, a young black man living in a white American can one day be equal. Every day my heart stays warm with a chance of success in this cause. Winning against injustice poverty. Winning against poverty,” he added.

Rapkin not only assaulted Lucas but wrongfully accused him of pushing her first. When they confronted her and said she wasn’t telling the truth as they had her on video, she got mad and pushed another student, Joe Friedman.

As for the second incident involving Rapkin, Shorewood PD released the following, “The victim in today’s incident reported he was peacefully protesting on the sidewalk in front of suspect’s home when the suspect came out and engaged in a verbal altercation with the protesters. The victim reported the suspect then slapped both of her hands on the victim’s chest and physically pushed him.”

Rapkin was held at the Milwaukee County Jail for one night with bail set at $950.

There is no excuse for what this lawyer did. Her act disgusted the whole country.

New York Police Officer Shares Powerful Message Everyone Should Read

As many people are on the streets protesting against police brutality and trying to express their rage after the tragic death of George Floyd, a police officer from Albany in New York reminds us that we should never generalize and make assumptions because of what certain individuals from the “group” did. Officer Sadaka Kedar believes people will realize that not all cops are bad, as most of them are often going above and beyond to do their job the right way and serve their citizens at the best of their ability.

Sadaka Kedar / Facebook

He felt he had to share his story along with what being a police officer truly means. His words touched many hearts and now his message is all over the internet. This is what he wanted the whole country to hear:

“I am a black man.

I am a police officer.

But I am not Derek Chauvin.

And I am not George Floyd.

I am ME.

I am compassionate and I am caring, and I will always have a very big heart….so why do you hate me?

I’ve given the socks off my feet to a homeless drunk who had no shoes.

I’ve prevented a woman from going to jail for stealing laundry detergent by paying the store for it so they wouldn’t prosecute after I her next door at a laundromat washing her children’s clothes; she was desperate and had no money.

The other day, an elderly man’s car broke down on the side of a busy road and he had no phone, so I drove him to the gas station up the block and paid for his gas.

I’m a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a friend….so why do you want to hurt or kill me?

I’ve stepped in and arrested the man that assaulted your grandmother. He knocked her down and snatched her purse and we chased him down and took him to jail.

A lady called 911 in a panic and told the dispatchers her 4-month-old baby wasn’t breathing. We got there before the paramedics and started compressions. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, that baby is now a happy, bright kindergartener.

A crazed man began opening fire on a large crowd. In the mass hysteria of people running away, we ran towards the gunfire to stop it.

I speak slang. Instead of hello I say, ‘Whats good yo?’ Some say I have an inner city accent, and I may not spell everything correctly or use perfect grammar…but why do you undermine me and assume I’m not smart and ignorant?

I have a high school and a college degree. I love to read books and I constantly do research to learn new skills. I graduated head of my police academy class and went on to become a course instructor for the department.

Sadaka Kedar / Facebook

I have spoken at public forums, community meetings, and in news interviews, all very well articulated, clear, and concise. I’ve put together evidence, facts and leads and helped solve and close cases. I AM BLACK AND I AM INTELLIGENT.

I listen to rap music, wear baggie jeans, and backwards fitted hats off duty. I have tattoos all across my body. But why do you profile and stereotype me?

On Thanksgiving I volunteer with Equinox, handing out dinners to families in need.

Around Christmas, I buy hats, gloves, and meal cards with my own money and hand them out. I also prepare hot meals and distribute them down by the City Mission and at a Senior Public Housing Building.

I volunteer my own time as a youth mentor. I love to visit schools and talk to the kids. I walk up and down these neighborhoods. I live in my community. I CARE ABOUT MY COMMUNITY.

I am ME.

I am not like Derek Chauvin.

I WILL NEVER treat you like George Floyd.

And there are many many more just like ME.”

We would like to express our gratitude for everything Sadaka is doing for his community and we hope people will understand that there are plenty of officers like this man who only want the best for the people they serve.

Mixed Race Teen Cooks 100 Meals for Police Officers Every Day

If you ask a little kid what they want to be when they grow up, the answers you’ll get will likely include a firefighter, a teacher, and a police officer. The thing is that not every of us is lucky enough to get the job we’ve always dreamed of. But for some, like 17-year-old Markel Davis, the dream is about to become a reality.

Markel is a senior at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio and is part of the Public Safety program through Columbus City Schools. This is a unique opportunity for this young man to get to know what the world of police officers really looks like.

With all the protests that are taking place all over the country, Markel believes it is now most important than ever for the police to show people that they are there to serve them.

This mixed race teen is helping the Columbus police officers he hopes to be working alongside one day by cooking for them. He and his mom Jessica Davis spend the summer days buying groceries and grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, and bratwursts. Once the meals are ready, they deliver them with buns and water on the side.

During these hard times for the officers from all over the country and the protests against police brutality, Markel wants to make sure that he is by their side because he’s convinced not every officer is bad as they are portrayed. “I feel like they are feeling that nobody out here is supporting them and I don’t want them to think that. I want them to know that I am here for them,” he said speaking to WBNS-10TV.

His mother added, “We have a lot of friends in law enforcement and one of our friends had posted something saying they didn’t have food down there and they are working endless hours.” It was enough for these mother and son to get busy around preparing 100 meals each day.

He says he understands the protesters, but also feels for the police who are doing their best to avoid things from escalating.

“I feel like there is something that needs to be done about what happened (to George Floyd). I believe that was wrong and we should be protesting,” he said, according to Local 12. “But I don’t think that just because some police officers did something wrong, that every police officer is wrong.”

Many people are praising Markel for what he does, but there are also those who criticize him for helping the men and women in uniform amid the national unrest.

His mother said “I just believe in letting your kids follow their dreams and be what they want to be. There’s going to be upset people because of what Markel’s doing. He said he wanted to do what was right and stand up for what he believes in. So I’m proud of him.”

“I would just like (people to know) not everyone out there is bad. It might seem like there’s a lot of bad people, but there’s also a lot of good people out there. And I just want to do the right thing…this is what feels right to me,” Markel says.

The officers who are receiving Markel’s food are thankful for what he does for them.

Garbage Man Kicks In Front Door Saving Elderly Couple from Fire in the Nick of Time

Our greatness as humans is best seen when we face situations we have to deal with at the best of our abilities. The story of a garbage collector from Ceres, California is a reminder that real life heroes do exist and they are all around us, making this world a more beautiful place.

Facebook / Ceres Fire Department

Patrick Lebow was on the job, minding his own business, when he noticed a house got caught on fire. This brave man didn’t hesitate even a bit before he rushed to check whether there was someone in there or not. The residents of the place, an elderly couple, were trapped inside the burning place. Patrick managed to break in an take the husband and the wife to safety. If it wasn’t for his brave deed, they would likely end up dead.

When Ceres Fire Chief Kevin Wise and his team arrived at the scene, there wasn’t much left to be saved as the house was all engulfed in flames. That’s when they noticed someone had broken in before them.

“He (Patrick) felt a need to act,” said Chief Wise. “He saw that they needed some help.

Many praised Patrick for what he did and dubbed him hero, but this humble man says he only did what everyone else would in his place. We, however, believe it takes courage to act as quickly as he did.

The video of the fire posted by the fire department was later shared on the social media. You can take a look at it below.

5-year-old Black Girl Asked Cop, “Are You Gonna Shoot Us?” He Got Down on His Knee and Hugged Her

George Floyd, an African-American man whose life ended after a white cop knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes and ignored onlookers’ pleas to remove his knee while Floyd kept repeating “I can’t breathe” became the symbol of the modern day civil rights movement. This tragic incident triggered unprecedented protests all over the United States and people fighting against police brutality can be seen all over the country.

Derek Chauvin, the cop who killed Floyd and has since been charged with murder left a black mark on police officers and many of them are trying to prove the world just the opposite, that they are there to serve them.

Recently, a peaceful march was held in Houston, Texas, as part of the movement triggered by Floyd’s death and five-year-old girl named Simone Bartee and her parents Simoen and Sion took part in it. All of a sudden, little Simone started crying and a cop approached her and asked what was wrong. The girl then asked him, “Are you gonna shoot us?” The officer’s answers melted our hearts. Instead of answering right away, he got down on his knee and hugged the little girl.

The video was shared on Twitter by Simone’s mother. The officer could be heard saying, “We’re here to protect you okay? We’re not here to hurt you at all. You can protest, you can party, you can do whatever you want. Just don’t break nothing.” That calmed the girl down and she stopped crying and feeling bad.

This sweet story is a proof that not all cops are bad or insensitive. Many of them go above and beyond their duty in order to serve the people they are sworn to protect, just like this police officer.
