Witnessing his mom being stripped of her royal titles, then 14-year-old William promised Diana: “I will give it back to you when I am King”

The moment the world learned that Prince Charles was dating a young and extremely beautiful woman named Diana Spencer, all eyes were on her. When they tied the knot, Diana was 20, and Prince Charles was 32.

The connection she was able to establish with her people was so strong that even today, years after her tragic death, every Brit talks of her with love and affection. The divorce from the heir to the throne didn’t prevent people from Britain and all over the world to refer to Diana as to the People’s Princess.

The marriage between Diana and Charles was a turbulent one. She was in love, but Charles seemed not to be over his former love, Camilla Rosemary Shand.

What was dubbed “the wedding of the century” ended in a painful separation which eventually led to divorce, after Queen Elizabeth urged her son and her daughter-in-law to officially call their relation quits.

When she announced the separation back in 1992, Diana, who held the tiles Her Royal Highness and Princess of Wells, continued to perform her royal duties. However, the divorce wasn’t finalized until 1996, one year prior to Diana’s death, because they couldn’t reach an agreement regarding her titles. She wanted to keep HRH because losing it would mean having to follow strict royal protocols when around her sons, including curtseying to them.

Queen Elizabeth was reported to have agreed Diana to keep her titles, but Charles was strongly against it. Eventually, she lost her HRH title but was allowed to use Princess of Wales.

This threw Diana in a state of horror and disappointment. According to Express, when Diana’s own mother suggested that losing the titles wasn’t that bad because it would give Diana a fresh start without the weight those titles brought, she didn’t speak to her for months.

At the time Diana was struggling because of the divorce and her titles, her eldest son, prince William, was 14 years old. He was aware of his mother’s distress and one night he decided to provide comfort to her by putting his arms around her and promising to give her her titles back once he becomes King of England, as reported by Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell.

Sadly, she died shortly after and never got to see her son become a king.

Both William and Harry had a rough time accepting their mother’s death. The tragedy affected them deeply.

“…If I had mental health issues I would happily talk about them. I think the closest I got was the trauma I suffered when I lost my mother, the scale of the grief, and I still haven’t necessarily dealt with that grief as well as I could have done over the years,” Prince William told GQ.

It took him years to learn how to live with the pain which came with his mother’s passing. “I am in a better place about it than I have been for a long time, where I can talk about her more openly, talk about her more honestly, and I can remember her better, and publicly talk about her better. It has taken me almost 20 years to get to that stage,” he said.

Rest in peace, Lady Di, you are dearly missed by millions of people who loved your spirit and modesty.

Interracial couple says hateful stares and comments only make them stronger

I live for the day when people won’t judge one another based on their physical appearance, skin color, culture, or religious beliefs. Sadly, as time passes by and years go on, it looks like the racism and the hate are even more present and make this world an ugly place.

Luckily, there are those people who break down barriers and give us hope that things can get brighter in the future.

Brady and Asharel are an interracial couple. They have been together ever since college and have a baby girl together. Their love grows stronger with each passing day and they both say they have found their soulmate in one another.

Sadly, the society isn’t always embracing the interracial relationships and things get hard at times, but this incredible couple knows how to deal with the stares and the glares.

Sharing their life story with Love What Matters, Asharel says: “As an interracial couple, we have learned to ignore some people while out in public. The glares and hateful stares have never bothered my husband and I, but we definitely notice it. We have been together for so long and have come so far in our relationship that we just laugh, and talk about how ridiculous people are in 2020 to still judge an interracial couple.”

Now that they have a daughter, they say they will teach her how to love everyone equally, no matter the color of their skin. “We will teach her to know the color of someone’s skin does not define who they are,” Asharel adds.

We say that Brady and Asharel are awesome together and we are happy they have found each other.

The heartbreaking moment a dying zoo worker receives final kisses from the giraffes

54-year-old Mario Ejis has spent half of his life taking care of the animals at the Rotterdam’s Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo in the Netherlands. Over the years, the magnificent inhabitants of the place have become his best friends. He always made sure their cages were perfectly clean and they have plenty of food and water.

Sadly, Mario got sick and was diagnosed with cancer, which meant he had to retire and leave the animals behind.

However, when his condition worsened and he was unable to walk or speak clearly, he asked for one final wish; to say one last goodbye to the animals that were very important part of his life.

The charity organization Ambulance Wish Foundation made sure they make his wish a reality. They transported him to the zoo in a specialized vehicle.

Mario was taken to see all the animals, but it wasn’t until he approached the giraffe section that something truly amazing happened.

The giraffes took turns to get their heads out of the window and give him gentle kisses. They could feel the pain their old friend was going through.

These animals recognized him, and felt that (things aren’t) going well with him,” said Kees Veldboer, the founder of the Ambulance Wish Foundation.

“(It was) a very special moment. You saw him (Mario) beaming,” said Veldboer.

The dying man got to see his co-workers again as well, and being at that place put him at ease.

What Ambulance Wish Foundation did for Mario was amazing. In fact, the organization was founded in order to help terminally ill people see a place of their significance for one last time. It was first established in the Netherlands but now it has around 1500 volunteers in the UK too.

Once the story of Mario and the animals was spread on the social media, many took their time to express their gratitude to the foundation and the animals who showed incredible compassion.

One person wrote: “Animals are the most beautiful and ethereal beings. They see, feel and touch our souls in unimaginable ways. The depth of their senses is a gift to those who unconditionally love and respect these amazing creatures gifted to us by our magnificent Creator. Rest In Eternal Peace, Mario. You were their Hero.”

82-year-old veteran fights back and kills home intruder who attacks his wife

Herbert Parrish, an 82-year-old Vietnam veteran from South Carolina, and his wife Lois, 79, were victims of intrusion a few days ago. It all happened when someone approached the back door of their home and asked Lois whether she had seen his chihuahua. Lois said no, and tried closing the door, but then the intruder pushed her and pulled a knife on her, as reported by FOX 57.

Herbert witnessed the attack on his wife and rushed to help her. He grabbed his shotgun and started hitting the attacker with it.

The intruder, who was later identified as 61-year-old Harold Runnels died of the injuries he sustained after taken into hospital. Runnels lived near by and Lois recalls seeing him around the neighborhood.

“I felt, we’re gone. He’s going to kill us and take what he can take,” Herbert said of the incident. “He was not going to go out that door and leave us alive. That’s the way I felt.”

“I started hitting him in the head with the barrel and I know I must have hit him at least ten times right in the face, just as hard as I could hit him,” he explained.

The Parrishes were not being charged and are still recovering from the minor injuries they sustained.

Rude crowd laughs at Tomb of the Unknowns memorial – marching soldier teaches them a lesson

Although we as a nation are thankful to the members of the military every single day and understand the sacrifice they make for keeping our country a safe place, two very special days remind the veterans and military members that we will never forget everything they have done for us, The Memorial Day and The Veterans Day.

On these days, a special ceremony takes place at the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” in Washington D.C. The tomb was first guarded back in 1927, and ever since that day a wreath is laid to rest next to it. It symbolizes the beauty and brevity of life.

“Floral tributes are made each day at Arlington National Cemetery — at funeral services, public ceremonies, and individual visits to a loved one’s gravesite.”

During the ceremony, which is also known as the “Wreath Laying Ceremony,” the President of the United States speaks on the behalf of the nation and expresses the gratitude we all feel for the soldiers who died for the country.

A few years ago, some young people who attended the ceremony started laughing all of a sudden. Such behavior should never be allowed as the ceremony is both formal and touching. The guard who is watching over the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” quickly put the frivolous youngsters on their place. He could be heard saying, “It is requested that everyone maintains a level of silence and respect!”

The people were ashamed of what they did as everyone turned and stared at them. Luckily, they understood they made a mistake and went completely quiet until the ceremony of honoring the fallen soldiers ended.

Take a look at the video below to see the whole thing taking place.

Boy is bullied and called ‘gay’ because he dances – Then Simon says 4 words that make audience cheer

Bullying can happen to anyone, but it looks like it is mostly present at schools and around young children who are unable to stand for themselves. According to some research, bullying affects one in five children. These numbers are devastating and speak of the failure of parents to educate their children about what is right and wrong.

Bullying consists of certain hurtful behaviors directed towards one person which are repeated over and over again. Those who fall victims of bullying can have their self-esteem affected until later in life and that is why we should do all in our power to put a stop to it.

For 14-year-old Jack Higgins, who was often teased and mocked by his friends, it all started when he showed he loved dancing, especially ballet, more than football. His classmates made fun of him whenever possible and called him names such as “gay” saying dancing was for girls.

Luckily, Jack never let those words and actions hurt him to the extend of letting go of his passion. On the contrary, he was determined to show the world that dancing is for boys as much as it is for girls, and he found just the way to do it – by joining Britain’s Got Talent.

Luckily, this young man’s efforts were really rewarded!

After an appearance which took the breath away to everyone who saw him conquering the stage, he was showered with compliments, but what the strictest judge had to say was the most meaningful compliment of all. “You know the one thing bullies don’t like? They don’t like it when you do well. I can see how hard you’ve worked for this moment and I congratulate you, Jack!” Simon Cowel said and had the audience cheer from the top of their lungs.

Watch Jack’s performance in the video below and don’t miss the emotional moments following his dance!

Michael Oher tells a whole different story about “The Blind Side” and says it negatively affected his career

Michael Oher’s life story goes from rags to riches. Even today, he is an inspiration for many struggling children who don’t have a happy childhood or a permanent home. His success is a reminder that the determination to change things for the better can never be taken away from you, no matter your background or the unfavorable circumstances.

Growing up with a mother who was on and off drugs, he and his siblings didn’t have a lot while growing up.

“When my mother was off drugs and working, she would remember to buy groceries, and there would be a mad scramble to grab whatever you could before anyone else got to it,” he wrote in his 2011 book I Beat the Odds: From Homelessness, to the Blind Side, and Beyond.

Just as he finished first grade, he and the rest of the siblings ended up in the foster system. Sadly, that meant going from one family to other and changing nine different schools in the course of 11 years.

Because of everything that was going on in his life, social workers believed he was dealing with rage, so they sent him to the adolescent unit of St. Joseph Hospital at 10.

According to Michael, that was never the case. He wasn’t angry, he wasn’t mad, he was just very sad. “I was a heartbroken little kid who was hurt and confused about everything that was going on around me,” he wrote in his biography.

Eventually, when he turned 11, Michael got back to his mother. The family then moved to a housing project called Hurt Village. Michael witnessed kids his age struggling with substances and being part of gang bands so he promised to himself he wouldn’t allow to find himself in such a situation. “Even if it meant working three jobs, at McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Taco Bell, I wasn’t going to be part of my environment,” he said.

Instagram/Michaeloher

Michael’s life was about to change after he made friends with a boy named Steve whose father was “Big Tony” Henderson, a coach who helped both Michael and his son attend the Briarcrest Christian School outside of Cordova, Tennessee.

Once there, Michael showed immense interest in football. He was extremely good, but there was one problem; his grades weren’t good. Luckily, his coach submitted an application and Michael was allowed to play under the condition to complete a home study program.

Instagram/Leigh Anne Tuohy

At that period of his life, Michael, who was in the foster system again, met a woman named Leigh Anne Tuohy. She and her husband took Michael in and paid for a tutor to help him with his studies.

Leigh was the first person who told Michael “I love you.” He hadn’t heard those words in a long time and had a hard time accepting that he was indeed loved by this family.

“They didn’t treat me like I was fragile or with curiosity like I was a strange creature they had to figure out before we could get close,” he wrote in his memoir. “I was able to understand what I’d suspected, that a life like mine in childhood wasn’t normal, and it wasn’t okay.”

In 2009, Michael graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in criminal justice. That same year, he was drafted by the NFL team Baltimore Ravens and signed a five-year contract worth $13.8 million.

At the same time he rose to stardom, the film The Blind Side was released. It was based on Michael’s life and starred Sandra Bullock, who received an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

The film was loved by many and became a huge hit, but Michael wasn’t very pleased with it because he believed it didn’t portray the real story of how he became a star after struggling for so many years.

“The movie’s great, very inspiring,” he said. “The football part is the only part I have a problem with. Sports was all I had when I was growing up – it made me look like I just didn’t know anything.”

He believed that the film negatively affected his career.

George Gojkovich/Getty Images

“I’m not trying to prove anything,” he told ESPN. “People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.

“This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not … that has nothing to do with football. It’s something else off the field. That’s why I don’t like that movie.”

Actor Quinton Aaron, who portrayed Michael in the film, spoke about the project. “You gotta at some point notice the amount of people’s lives this movie has touched in a positive, encouraging, and inspiring manner,” he said regarding Michael’s way of seeing the film. “At the end of the day, bro, you are a millionaire, you’re famous, you are a Super Bowl Champ, you have an amazing family that loves you, friends, fans, and teammates.

“Who gives a damn about what people say or think who wanna criticize your game, bro, that shouldn’t matter. Somebody is always going to have something to say that you’re not going to like,” he added. “So what, you had a couple of bad seasons. I believe you’ve got a lot more fuel in the tank, so let’s start hashing out some good ones and forget what people think about you. I got your back, brotha God Bless!”

Michael Ohler retired from football in 2017. He had quite a career and inspired many. Today, not much is known about his private life. What we know, however, is that he is the creator of the application Good Deeds, which helps people in need. “It is all about connecting people who have needs with those who want to give,” he said. “Download the app and help a child in need beat the odds like I did. Be an answer to someone’s prayers.”

Michael has a net worth of $16 million and uses a great deal of that money to improve people’s lives.

She buys homeless man meal & sits with him. He hands her crumpled note before leaving

Recently, I’ve stumbled upon a social experiment in which a girl was nicely dressed and left alone by the sidewalk. Most of the passersby who saw her took their time to stop and ask her where her parents were and whether she needed help. That same girl was now dressed in worn and dirty clothes and left standing at the same place. A lot of people passed by her, but non seemed to notice her. And those who did, only stared with resentment.

This is the sad reality of today. It makes me wonder when did this world become a home of selfish humans who only judge others based on their looks. Or, how come that the life of a rich person is worthier than that of the poor?

Thankfully, there comes someone along the way who shows us that not everyone lost the ability to empathize with the less fortunate, and that gives us hopes that not everything is lost.

Casey Fischer was planning to grab some coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts during her break from classes when she saw a homeless man on the side of the road picking up change. He then entered the place in hopes of buying something to eat.

When Fisher got closer she could see the change in the man’s hand barely made $1. She then offered to pay for his coffee and a bagel and invited him to join her table.

The man introduced himself as Chris and shared with Fischer how he was very often treated badly only because he was homeless.

He confessed how he abused drugs and that turned him into the man he hated. What he really wanted in life was to be the person his late mother would be proud of. But somehow failed in reaching so.

As it was time for Fischer to get back to class, she told Chris she was glad to meet him and that she had to go. But then, the man told her to wait a minute, took a crumpled up piece of paper, wrote something on it, and handed it to his new acquaintance.

Fischer opened the note and she felt overwhelmed. She could never imagine that what she did could mean so much to the homeless man. For him, this meeting was way more than just a chat over coffee and a bagel. It changed something in him.

“I wanted to kill myself today,” the note read. “…because of u I now do not. Thank u, beautiful person.”

We would like to thank this lovely girl too. You are the change that this world needs in order to go round.

Officer saves a toddler after pulling over a van

Not all heroes wear capes. The real ones wear uniforms and a badge and make sure everyone around is safe and sound. This is the story of officer Grady and his fellow colleagues who saved a life during what was supposed to be a routine traffic violation on the Interstate 90 in Idaho.

Source: AARoads

The call Sergeant Justin Klitch made for that van to be pulled over was crucial in discovering the horrific scene they’ve stumbled upon that cold and bitter December morning.

As they approached the vehicle and asked for the licence and registration, the officers were puzzled when they noticed the woman siting in the front seat was all covered in bruises. It was clear she was suffering physical abuse.

Source: KHQAdam

On the back seat there was a toddler who was showing signs of abuse as well. His condition was worrying.

The officers from the Idaho Police Station were aware of the severity of the situation and stepped in.

Source: KHQ

Later, during an interview with a local news station while discussing the incident, officer Grady couldn’t hold his tears back. During his career he had witnessed all forms of negligence and abuse, but this one was done to a 2-year-old boy and it broke his heart.

“While we there, he [the sergeant] discovered a young boy in the back of the minivan,” Officer Grady says in an interview right before he tears up. “It’s taken me all week to type this stupid thing out,” he added.

“He had discovered a small boy in the back who was severely injured. He had bruises on his head, multiple lacerations on his stomach, his arms were stuck in a fetal position and his left eye was not functioning properly.”

Source: KHQAdam

The officers rushed the boy to the local hospital and took the adults to the police station for questioning.

The injured toddler needed to be transferred to Sacred Heart Pediatric Hospital in Spokane. Officer Grady accompanied him.

There was another boy in the van. A one-year-old baby who was in a good health condition.

Everyone was pretty concerned for the boy’s condition that was getting worse. His heart rate went from 70 to 110 in a matter of minutes and he was in constant pain. He was quickly transferred to the ER and spent a significant amount of time in intensive care. The boy was referred to as ‘Baby J’ for privacy reasons.

Source: KHQAdam

“This is the worst case of this type of situation that I’ve run into. I’ve been to many fatal crashes, I used to work for a different department. Went to a lot of domestic violence situations. I’ve seen people injured, I’ve seen people hurt, but I’ve never seen this before. So I don’t know what the toll is going to be,” Officer Grady mentioned.

Doctors said that the injuries the toddler suffered were life-threatening. However, after receiving the appropriate medical treatment for his wounds and the brain trauma, he was finally ready to leave the ICU. Medics believe he will soon recover completely, and that’s really good news.

Source: KHQAdam

“Sgt. Klitch just left Sacred Heart Hospital and said Baby J is alert, engaging and playful. We are all so thankful for the hard work and care of the Sacred Heart Pediatric ICU team! Still work to do but good news nonetheless,” the Idaho State Police wrote on their Twitter account.

59-year-old Jorge Gonzales-Vergel, who was driving the van was arrested.

He is not a suspect in the case of abuse but is charged for other counts such as possession of meth, marijuana, and other substances. The officers also found a firearm during the search of the vehicle. Currently, he is at the Shoshone County jail.

Source: KHQAdam

The baby boy has been taken into the care of the state of Idaho and is currently residing in the Shoshone Medical Center.

The doctors are unanimous that if it wasn’t for the officers who stopped the vehicle, Baby J could die because of the excessive trauma he suffered. These amazing men saved his life.

Sergeant Klitch is proud of his unit, and we are too! Check the whole story in the video below.

Woman asks for hardest to adopt dog

When you talk about rescuing a dog, then to most people that means actually rescuing a dog from the rescue centre, not just only looking for a cute puppy.

A dedicated dog rescuer looks for a dog in need of rescuing!

Now, that’s how Melani Andrews and a dog called Jake became forever companions, she went to Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter looking to find a dog to adopt that no one else would adopt.

The shelter said, on their Facebook page:

“This kind woman walked into our shelter and asked who the oldest, hardest to adopt dog was”

Source: Front Street Animal Shelter – The City of Sacramento

Melani really wanted to help a dog, but really she needed help too! The dog in need she was looking for was to hopefully also help her as a companion to help her through hard times and lonely moments.

The Grandmother of 72 had lost her husband shortly before she also lost her Staffordshire terrier, the 72-year-0ld grandmother lost her husband then her Staffordshire terrier who was a great comfort to her after she lost her husband.

Melani Said:

“I was feeling down and a little depressed,”

“My grandkids came over one night, and they said, ‘Grandma, you need somebody to keep you company. You can’t just sit around here all by yourself.”

When she got to the animal shelter she was shown Jake.

“Jake has been with us for a long time, is a senior and has cancer in addition to skin problems,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “He was getting passed up time and time again. But Melani came to the shelter not just to find a great dog, but to save a life and give unconditional love to a dog in need.”

Source: Melani Andrews

She wasn’t bothered at all about veterinary bills for Jake, even though he was a 12 years aging dog with terminal skin cancer, was deaf and partially blind.

After all this Melani still wanted to shower this dog in need with love.

Melani said:

“Jake’s two friends ignored me, but Jake perked up and started howling,”

“So I said, ‘It looks like he wants to go, and I’ll take him.’”

So had decided to give Jake an awesome good life, during his final weeks after taking him home, and Jake really settled into his new home quickly, he was so happy there!

Source: Melani Andrews

The shelter said:

“As you can see, it’s a match made in heaven,”

“Every day I laugh a little bit more,” Andrews said. “It’s not so lonesome. I think [Jake] knows that I love him because he’ll come over to me and he’ll rub up against me and ask me to rub his backside. And then he’ll nose me with his nose. And a dog that doesn’t know somebody loves him wouldn’t be doing anything like that.”

This is a definite case of who actually rescued who, but above all we’re glad that these two found each other.

Cops locate missing toddler and realize family dog had been protecting her the entire time

One mother from Qulin, Missouri experienced what every parent fears of. Her little girl was nowhere to be found. Remy Merritt is a 3-year-old adorable girl who went missing form her rural home.

Once the mother realized her baby girl was neither in the house nor outside, she panicked and called the police.

“I looked for her by myself thinking maybe she was just in the woods or somewhere where I just couldn’t see her,” Timber, Remy’s mother told PEOPLE.

“And I was just calling for her and calling for here, and when she wasn’t calling back I realized ‘I don’t think I’m going to find her on my own.’”

The place where they live is a very friendly, so in a matter of minutes after the news spread, a great group of volunteers joined the search. The community was worried for the child’s safety because the place and the houses are all surrounded by fields of corn that can be difficult to navigate.

Helicopters searched for the girl and circled all around the place. But the wheat was way too high and obstructed the visibility.

The day had come to an end so the police and the volunteers had to end the search, in hopes that the new day will bring new hope.

“It was stressful and emotional,” a family friend told ABC News.

“We were all just walking back and forth from one end to the other just yelling her name.”

“All the flashlights started dying and the sheriff’s office decided to call it for the night.”

The search continued in the early morning hours.

The biggest problem was again the corn. “You don’t hear well in the corn,” a volunteer explained. “When somebody is yelling your name, you can hear them, but you don’t know where it’s coming.”

Finally, good news put everyone’s worry at ease. Remy was finally located. She was safe, but not alone!

Man’s best friend has confirmed once again why he gets to be called like that! The family’s pet terrier, Fat Heath, never left the girl’s side and kept her safe during the night

It if wasn’t for the dog God knows what would have happened to Ramy. Luckily, the police and the neighbors heard him barking and managed to locate the missing girl.

“The dogs yapping at each other is a neat little moment,” Parrot said.

Neither Ramy, nor Fat Heath were injured!

After they were admitted to hospital, the doctors said Remy was only exhausted and really thirsty.

A lot of bites and a little thirsty, but she got a clean bill of health and was returned back to her home afterward,” Parrot confirmed.

“She said she wasn’t scared because Fat Heath was there. If he wasn’t, I think she would’ve been terrified.”

Father runs into burning home to save twin daughters who were trapped inside

Not all heroes wear capes, some come in the form of fathers who would risk their own life for that of their children. The following story is just another proof that there is nothing a parent wouldn’t do for their little ones.

On July 16, 2021, Ray Lucas from Michigan and his wife Shi’Ann Brown went to the gas station which is just around the corner and spent less than 15 minutes there before they returned home. When they got near their house, they were left in complete shock when they saw the entire place got caught on fire which was spreading uncontrollably.

Ray’s mom and niece were watching in disbelief, unable to act.

Source: YouTube Screenshot / FOX 2 Detroit

Ray’s two daughter, 18-month-old twins Milan and Malasya, were still inside the house, sleeping in the basement. The flames were spreading quickly and time was running out, so Ray did what he needed to. He entered the burning place in an attempt to save his children. The smoke was so thick that he couldn’t even see his hands in front of his eyes.

Moments later, the heroic father got out while carrying the little ones in his arms. Speaking to Fox 2, he said: “I just knew I had to get my babies out. That’s what went through my mind.”

Source: YouTube Screenshot / FOX 2 Detroit

Both him and his daughters were admitted to hospital where they spent some time at the ICU. While Milan suffered second degree burns, Malaysa’s condition was more severe, but she is now doing better and still recovering. Ray experienced temporary blindness and doctors are still stunned by the fact that his vision wasn’t lost completely. Unfortunately, due to his injuries, he isn’t able to get back to work.

The family lost their house, all of their belongings, and medical bills are still piling up. For that reason, a GoFundMe has been set up by some of their family members. The goal was to reach $40,000, but so far, $475,000 have been raised.

Luckily, no life was lost that day.

Dad lets his 3-yr-old daughter pick her own outfit for class picture day

Children are unique. Most of them know exactly what they want even from early age. Their parents picking their outfits for them for school or social gatherings is just unacceptable for some kids who know what suits them best. Well, even if that means wearing mismatching clothes, or outfits not really “acceptable” to be worn in public.

It was going to be a ‘picture day’ at school and Kaylieann Steinbach’s parents carefully chose her outfit for the day. This pictures are forever so they made sure their little princess resembles exactly that, a cute little princess dressed in girly colors. And well, it was all fun and games for the parents until Kaylieann got to see her daddy and mommy’s pick. Pretty disappointing, to say the least. It was a huge no, no for this little fashionista.

She was taking things in her own hands.

Facebook/AustinSteinbach

Why not wear the outfit of someone she really loves the most. The greatest superheros of all time, “Pooterman” and “Pootergirl.” If you wonder who those are, it’s how lovely Kaylieann calls Superman and Supergirl because unfortunately, she is experiencing hearing loss and can’t hear the letter ‘S.’

She already had her decision made, it was either Supergirl or nothing. Her parents were a bit hesitant letting their girl wearing a costume to school, but they knew it was going to be fun.

Dad Austin Steinbach said “Well, I couldn’t argue with that answer.”

Facebook/AustinSteinbach

Needless to say, they were right. Their girl was in the limelight that day and showed everyone that being different can be great. She posed for her picture with a doll of Superman in her hands.

She does wear costume outfits to school every now and then, when she feels like wearing them, and her teachers and classmates are always looking forward to see her next choice.

The story of this very special picture day went viral once Austin posted Kaylieann’s photo on Reddit. Many people wrote how he and his wife nailed at parenting.

“The reaction and turnout from the deaf community is amazing,” he said.“I still haven’t been able to get through all the messages of support and kind words people have sent me. I could never have imagined how much her picture could have touched so many,” Austin Steinbach said.

Kaylieann, you indeed are a superhero of your own. Many people should follow this girl’s example and don’t be afraid to show their true selves.

Father drops off baby medication to his ex – heart breaks when he walks into apartment

Co-parenting can be the most challenging thing in the life of divorced couples because besides all the differences, arguments, and sometimes even hatred, there are innocent souls that should be well taken care of. Many times, exes must try their best to get along, all for their offspring’s well-being.

Brandon Carpenter (Photo Credit: Facebook)

Brandon Carpenter is a father of a beautiful baby daughter he loves to the moon and back. Although he and his wife untied the knot and went separate ways, this loving father made sure to never leave his daughter’s side and be the person she can always rely on.

One day when Brandon went at his ex’s to drop off medications for the baby, he came across a sight that got him thinking. In a Facebook post he said:

“My child’s mother said our daughter isn’t feeling well and needs some Tylenol.”
“I bring her infant Tylenol and notice her fridge is completely empty other than some water.”

He simply couldn’t get over the fact that his daughter’s mother was struggling to make ends meet.

The concerned father further explained why he was left troubled by what he saw, saying:

“She works a full-time job and then has my daughter.
She pays rent and all her bills plus she is paying off a car,”

he added. That’s when he knew what he had to do.

“I went shopping to make sure she had food for the next few weeks,”

Brandon wrote, and posted an image of the receipt of the things he bought. In case anyone was wondering, he elaborated his reason for doing this, saying:

“Just because we aren’t together doesn’t mean I can’t provide for her if she needs it.”

Brandon Carpenter posted an image of the receipt along with his rant. (Photo Credit: Facebook)

“If my child’s mother is good then I know she is taking care of our daughter the best she can and that makes me happy.”

He is aware there are people out there who are co-parenting like he is, but don’t care about the financial situation of their ex husband or wife.

“Some of yall think, ‘I’m going to provide for my child, f*** the mother,’ but that’s thinking like a child,” Brandon said, adding, “It’s time to grow up and take responsibility in all aspects of life!”

The post gathered the attention of thousands of people who praised Brandon for his deed and for the way he was perceiving a divorce where a child is involved. He put all the differences behind and did what he had to do for his daughter’s sake.

However, after a great number of people saw his Facebook post, many of them were wondering how could a young father afford to spend so much money on groceries, and wanted to know whether he used his own money. Yes, people can be that cruel.

The grocery store received emails and phone calls regarding the purchase, but the Good Housekeeping’s manager confirmed that Brandon used his bank account.

The story is a great reminder that no matter how good of a person one is, the society may always judge their actions. Brandon is an example of a perfect father who would do anything for the happiness of his child, no matter if he and the child’s mother are no longer together.

Please share this lovely story with your family and friends.

Actress and songwriter Linda Thompson speaks of her relationship with Elvis Presley, confirms what we all knew

No matter how good someone is when it comes to creating music and performing it, there will always be only one king.

Elvis Presley gave the world some of the best hits like Jailhouse Rock, In The Ghetto, Hound Dog and Love Me Tender, which are incredibly popular until this day and will likely be listened to and enjoyed by many future generations.

Youtube/Elvis Presley

One of the people who were the last to have contact with The King of Rock and Roll before his passing in 1977 was Linda Thompson.

Linda has always been a huge fan of Elvis’ music, pretty much like everyone else, especially the female population. When she was born in 1950, Elvis was already starting his career and winning music shows in Memphis, Tennessee, where both he and Linda were born.

When she was just six years old, Linda recalls sitting at breakfast with her parents and saying, “I am going to marry Elvis Presley.” She and the musician met shortly after he and Priscilla Presley decided to end up their marriage.

Linda was winning numerous beauty contests and was crowned Miss Tennessee in 1972. Before that, she won the title of Miss Shelby County, Miss Mid-South Fair, Miss Liberty Bowl, Miss Okra, Memphis State’s Golf Queen and a lot more. Her beauty was captivating and neither the King himself was immune to her charm.

The soon-to-be couple first met during a private screening and Linda recalled he approached her saying, “Well, hello honey!”

She believed he was still married at the time, but he told her he and Priscilla were no longer a thing. “He started pulling the old yawn, put the hand around the seat,” Linda said last year at the Las Vegas Elvis Festival.

“He said, ‘I’ve been separated since the end of the year. We’re getting a divorce. She’s met somebody else and she’s moved on’. I said, ‘Oh, well I’m sorry to hear that but you should have married a southern girl’. And he never forgot that.”

The two started dating and Linda moved to Elvis’ famous estate at Graceland. It was then that she noticed his self-destructive behavior.

During their first year as a couple, Elvis made history. His concert which took place at the Honolulu International Center in Hawaii on January 14, 1973, was the first ever concert to be aired globally. It cost $2.5 million and was broadcast to over 40 countries, from France and Italy, all the way to Singapore and South Korea.

Linda often spoke of her relationship with Elvis and wrote in her book A Little Thing Called Life, “Ours was a complete relationship—when the need arose, we got to be everything to each other. He was almost sixteen years older than I and so it was natural for me to sometimes be the little girl, with him playing the daddy. More often than not, though, I was the mommy, and he was the baby. Sometimes we were loverssometimes we were brother and sister. Sometimes we were best friends. We were all things to each other at one time or another. And Elvis was always, always everything to me.

Elvis was taking a bunch of medications which affected his liver and his health declined in 1975, the same year he was taken to hospital.

Linda was aware of the severity of his situation and made sure he was breathing whenever he went to sleep. But she was at the same time very young and didn’t feel like she was able to cope with everything that was taking place during the time.

Youtube/Thedoctors

“I had this haunting feeling, I just thought, I don’t know if anybody’s going to take care of him the way I did,” Linda explained. “When you’re with someone for that many years and that closely living with them, I felt very attuned to his habits and his needs and I thought, nobody else is going to know that.”

Elvis passed away on August 16, 1977, at the age of just 42. The news of his death was received with tears by millions of fans of his work and music.

Linda recalled calling him just days before he left this world. The King’s friend, guitarist Charlie Hodge, picked up the phone and told Linda that Elvis would be happy to hear she called and asked about him. Linda’s final words to the iconic musician were, “Okay, just tell him that I called and I love him and I was just checking on him.”

After Elvis, Linda married Bruce Jenner and the two had two sons together, Brody and Brendon. They divorced in 1986, just five years after tying the knot. She married her second husband, musician and producer David Foster, in 1991 and the pair stayed together until 2005.

Linda is a successful songwriter. She created the music for The Voice, The X Factor, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol and was nominated for a Grammy and an Academy Award for the music of the movie The Bodyguard.

After all these years, Linda still posts photos and tributes to Elvis.

On the 43rd anniversary of his passing, she wrote, “He was the king of cool as well as the king of rock ‘n’ roll. He had an enormous heart, an unbridled generosity, an innovative talent, a loving, affectionate nature, and a profound sensitivity.”

“Elvis was an original. He was complex in his simplicity, and he was very human. The world lost an icon 43 years ago today, but Elvis still lives in the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Many travel to Memphis every year on the occasion of his passing, & remember him with a candlelight vigil.”

When teacher notices a child getting depressed every day she wants to learn the reason

How far would you go to make other people happy? Some people’s hearts are so big that they would go above and beyond in order to help others. Just like this 54-year-old teacher named Nancy Bleuer from Iowa.

Nancy is a very caring individual who loves her students so very much. She doesn’t only make sure each and every kid in her class learns, but she also cares for their well-being.

One day, she noticed one of the pupils, 4-year-old Camden, was very sad. She couldn’t help but notice he was disturbed because of something, so she approached and asked him what was wrong.

Facebook / Nancy Bleuer

It was then that Camden told her how her father was very ill. Nancy felt the urge to contact the family and see what was going on in the house. Sadly, she learned how Camden’s father had problems with his kidneys. They were only operating on 20 percent capacity and he felt very bad after each dialysis treatment.

Nancy thought about ways to help the family. She first thought of offering help with Camden and take care of him after school if needed. But then, she realized the best way to help them was to offer one of her kidneys to the father, 34-year-old Darreld Petersen.

Once she was certain she was doing just the right thing, Nancy went to the hospital and underwent a number of tests to see whether she was a match or not. Surprisingly, she was the perfect match. “I was really excited about it,” Nancy told ABC News. “I was ecstatic and I don’t know what I would’ve done for closure if I wasn’t [a match].”

When Camden and his dad learned he was getting the so much anticipated organ, they couldn’t believe their ears. Nancy gave them the most precious gift there is, the gift of life.

“It’s just amazing,” Petersen said. “There are people waiting every day for a kidney, for an organ in general. I wish there were more people like her. She’s giving me a second chance at life.”

We are so happy there are still people out there as loving and as compassionate as Nancy Bleuer. She’s our hero!

Intruder is no match for this 67-year-old woman with black belt in martial arts

Elderly people are considered easy target for robbers because they appear vulnerable.

However, no matter their age, these people’s experience and wisdom can come in handy when they find themselves in trouble.

One intruder who decided to steal from the residents of a senior-citizen complex regretted his decision after he came across a 67-year-old lady who had a black belt in martial arts. She didn’t appear strong at all, especially because of her age and her height of under 5ft, but as we all know, looks can be deceiving.

The intruder entered the home of Lorenza Marrujo, but she didn’t get scared and told him to back off, as per Los Angeles-based KCAL-TV. He fled her place, but shortly after, she heard screams coming from the neighboring apartment. She rushed to see what was going on when she saw the intruder attacking one of her friends, 81-year-old Elizabeth McCray. He shook her until she fell on the floor, but Lorenza wouldn’t let him hurt her friend any longer.

Speaking to KCAL-TV, Lorenza recalled how her friend told her, “He’s gonna kill us,” to what she replied, “Not tonight.”

“I squeezed myself between her [Elizabeth] and him…then I jumped on him and I was punching him and I had the cane against his throat.

“At the same time his arm came up and I twisted it around, he was shouting ‘you’re hurting me, you’re hurting me.’ and I said ‘I don’t care what happens to you, you have no right to hurt an elderly person,’” brave Lorenza explained.

She managed to hold him to the ground until police arrived. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, and he was arrested.

For Lorenza’s interview go to the video below and don’t forget to share it with your friends.

Irene Ryan, who played Granny Daisy Moses on ‘The Beverly Hillbillies,’ nearly missed the role

When we think of all those old shows we loved watching, one of the first that pops up is The Beverly Hillbillies. It follows the life and the adventures of the members of the Clampett family, who become reach overnight and decide to move to Beverly Hills. The only problem is that they are hillbillies and don’t really fit in the new surrounding.

The show brought so much laughter to so many people and remains until this day one of the best there are. In fact, just three weeks after the first episode aired back in 1962, it reached No.1, faster than any other show in history.

Among the actors who made the series what it is are Buddy Ebsen, in the role of Jed Clampett, Donna Douglas as Elly May Clampett, Max Baer Jr. who played Jethro Bodine, Jed’s dim-witted nephew, and Irene Ryan, Jed’s mother-in-law.

Before landing the iconic role of Daisy May “Granny” Moses, Irene had a successful radio career. She was born Oct 17, 1902 in El Paso, Texas and knew her place was in the showbiz from very early age. She did musical comedy and variety and traveled across the country. During one of those trips, she met her husband Tim Ryan whom she married in 1922. The two performed together for many years and stayed married for two decades before they decided to untie the knot.

The two had their own radio program called Tim and Irene and performed the classic “Dumb Dora” act for many years.

During the World War II, Irene joined comedian Bob Hope in giving performances to the American troops stationed in Europe.

“Believe me when I say that laughter up at the front lines is a very precious thing – precious to those grand guys who are giving and taking the awful business that goes on there,” Bob Hope told Library of Congress.

“There’s a lump the size of Grant’s Tomb in your throat when they come up to you and shake your hand and mumble ‘Thanks.’ Imagine those guys thanking me! Look what they’re doing for me. And for you.”

When she auditioned for the role which changed her life forever, that of Granny Daisy Moses, the casting agent believed she wasn’t the perfect fit. According to El Paso Times, Irene called Paul Henning, the writer and producer of The Beverly Hillbillies, and said, “Look, Paul, do I have to go home and get my grey wig and shawl to convince you? If you get anybody older to play the role, she wont be able to stand the pace. I know what those 7-to-7 schedules are like.”

However, that wasn’t what the producer recalled happened.

“Irene Ryan had paid us a visit and she came by the office. We had used her on The Dennis Day Show and she came by and I said ’Irene, do you think you can play the part of a Hillbilly?’” Henning said, according to Emmy TV Legends.

“And she said ’are you kidding? I was at a stock company when we played a theater in Arkansas. We kept waiting for the curtain to go up backstage and finally the curtain didn’t go up and there were nobody in the theater. So we went up and talked to the manager and asked why he didn’t let the people in. And he said that that if he’d let them in before the curtain came up, they would whittle away the seats. So I know hillbilly.’”

She got to read the part once again and that was it.

Irene was nominated for an Emmy Award twice for her iconic role, in 1963 and 1964, both for Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actress in a Series.

Once the series was over, she went on to pursue her life-long dream, Broadway.

Among the rest, she starred as grandmother “Berthe” in the Broadway musical Pippin’ which earned her a Tony Award nomination in 1973 for Best Featured Actress In a Musical.

Later, she founded the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, a foundation which gives scholarships to promising acting students. Even today, the organization awards sixteen regional and two national scholarships.

Irene passed away at the age of 70, in 1973. She suffered a stroke while on stage in New York six weeks prior to her passing. Reports say she had inoperable glioblastoma but was not aware of that. Her public relations agent Frank Liberman told The New York Times that Irene was rushed to Los Angeles for a treatment, but she didn’t pull through.

Irene Ryan truly was one of a kind. Her incredible acting and all the laughter she brought to us make her one of the best actresses in the history of film.

Giraffe woman spent 5 years stretching her neck with rings to look like her favorite animal

Sydney Smith is a 35-year-old woman from Los Angeles who has attracted a lot of attention on the social media over the years because of her distinctive looks.

Ever since she was a young girl, Smith’s friends and classmates called her ‘giraffe’ because of her long neck. The thing is that she never found that offensive. On the contrary, she has always loved her neck and believed it made her special.

As time passed by, Smiths somehow felt the urge to live by that name, so she did something that put her under the spotlight. Just as the women from the Kayan tribe from Southeast Asia who wear neck rings for the sake of giving an impression that it is bigger than it actually is, Smith herself placed rings around her neck.

Her parents described what their daughter did as ridiculous and believed it would be just a short-lived obsession, but Smith was determined to extend her neck further and wore her rings everywhere.

The thing is that the neck itself can’t really be stretched with those rings. What they do is press down on the collar bone and compresses the rib cage, which makes the neck only look longer.

The Kayan women start wearing the brass coils at the age of five because they believe they make them more beautiful and represent a symbol of their cultural identity.

Getty Images

“I was the first western woman (that I know of) attempting to elongate my neck,” Smith wrote on the social media.

Some three years after she started wearing her copper rings that she made herself, she claimed that her neck got longer for 10 to 11 inches. She even took them off shortly, but didn’t feel comfortable without them.

“I had missed the comfort from the pressure on the top of my neck and shoulders and had been thinking about doing it again for a while,” Smith said. “The comfort and exhilaration of this process was really all I was after.”

Another reason why she got back to the rings was seeing Lady Gaga at a concert. The singer’s “freak empowerment message” inspired Smith to be different even further so she had a friend redo her rings before she put them on again.

Over the years, Smith’s photos and her story were shared online every now and then and everyone was eager to see how much her neck stretched with time. People starred at her and she even had a hard time finding a proper job, but that didn’t bother her until she started feeling trapped.

“I could not function as a long-necked woman with fifteen rings in the US. You could only do it if you were willing to isolate yourself completely and you never have to leave home. I spent five years of my life with rings around my neck and I became very introverted and isolated,” she told the Daily Mail in 2017.

“If you’re a trust fund baby and do not ever need to leave the house, do not ever need to drive, then maybe you can pull it off,” she added.

Today, Smith lives her life without the rings. However, wearing them for years affected her health as her neck muscles became very fragile. It took some time for her to get back to normal.

“People have this misconception that they think your neck is going to look super long when you remove the rings,” she told the Daily Mail.

“Some of you are disappointed to see me without the rings nowadays, but I feel myself evolving past them. Accept me now or don’t. I’ve never fully been accepted by the world with or without my rings. Either way, it’s the same. Self love is what matters most.”

As many of her followers were eager to learn more of her decision to take her rings away, she decided to give a little more insight and wrote on Instagram in December 2021: “It’s been a few years since I removed my neck rings and the stories keep circulating. It’s been hard finding something equally as exciting since I took my rings off. In the end, I felt trapped and defined by my neck rings, as people expected me to continue as Giraffe Woman. In western society, it is very difficult to maintain that sort of lifestyle. Unlike the small villages in Cambodia where the longneck women live a more simple lifestyle that is conducive to their rings. With that being said, there was no way I could continue with the rings in Western society, with all of its demands.”

Today, Smith works as a light worker and a twin flame specialist which is related to spiritual awakening.

Grandmother’s funeral turns into exhibition of her thoughtful, handmade family quilts

Margaret Hubl was a woman of many virtues. When she passed away in 2016 at the age of 86, her family was convinced even further of the love she had for each and every person who was part of her life.

Back in the day, when her children were still very young, she started sewing clothes for them. Over time, she excelled this skill and started quilting comfy blankets for her family. Hubl and her husband had three children on their own, but they also adopted her niece and nephew when their parents were killed in a car crash in 1969.

Source: @tits_mcgheee/Reddit

On the day of Hubl’s funeral, her granddaughter, Christina Tollman, asked from the members of the family to bring the handmade quits her grandma made for them to the church so that they could serve as a visual reminder of late Hubl’s craftsmanship.

What Tollman didn’t expect was for the entire place to be covered in her grandma’s work. She wasn’t even aware that the lovely elderly lady had created that many quilts over the years.

“Never did I imagine how many there were. We covered almost every single pew in that church. I never knew how many she actually made,” she told Today.

Source: tits_mcgheee/Reddit

While cleaning Hubl’s house, her children and grandchildren found a notebook filled with dates and names of people she made the quilts for.

“When we sat down to go through her things we found this — I call it a pocket notebook. Inside it says whose quilt she was working on, what day she put it in the quilt frame and which day she took it out,” the granddaughter said.

Hubl even had some finished creations at home but was waiting for a special occasion to give them to certain people. Tollman read the names and decided to give her granny’s quilts to the people she made them for, three of Tollman’s cousins, on the day of the funeral.

“I actually have three cousins that are not married, and the day of her funeral was the day that they got to see their quilts for the first time,” she said. “That was really kind of a neat moment.”

Source: @womensart1/Twitter

“She wanted us to have something to wrap up and keep warm in when we went away to school,” Tollman said.

People recalled the times they used the quilts and remembered the good times they spent around Hubl. “This is the love that Grandma made for each of us. This is what she made for each of us to wrap up in when we hurt,” her granddaughter said. “When we miss her.”

Isn’t this a beautiful way to celebrate someone’s life?

NCIS star Cote de Pablo reveals her true feelings about Mark Harmon and says he’s father figure

One of the characters which added to the NCIS popularity is definitely the smart and but-kicking detective Ziva David portrayed by beautiful Cote de Pablo.

Cote was born María José de Pablo Fernández on November 12, 1979, in Santiago, Chile. When she was 10, her family settled down in Miami Florida. Moving places wasn’t easy for Cote who needed to learn a new language and make new friends. It was during her school years that she decided to be called Cote, mainly because her classmates had a hard time pronouncing her birth name right.

Andreas Branch/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images

Over time, she found her place under the American sky.

“But I was raised here. And I found my niche because I went to a performing arts high school. I had always been interested in the arts, but performing became even more important because it was a way to communicate with people in my new country,” she told Prevention. “It wasn’t till I got to the United States that I learned to speak English.

“Those were defining years for me. I always describe myself as sort of a hippie. Deep inside, I’m not a glamorous person,” the actress added. “I come from a traditional, conservative world. But this kind of hippie world at school allowed me to explore the creativity and imagination that live inside all of us.”

Once in America, Cote’s mother started working for Telemundo, a Spanish-speaking television channel, and Cote inherited the love for arts from her.

At the age of 15, Cote co-hosted episodes of the Latin-American talk show Control with former Entertainment Tonight host Carlos Ponce. She attended Carnegie Mellon University where she studied music and theatre.

After appearing in commercials and a number of television series, including ones in All My Children and Fling, Cote was cast to portray Ziva David on NCIS from 2005 to 2013. She later made short comebacks, but didn’t return as a regular in the show.

Speaking of her character, Cote said that she and Ziva had a lot in common. “My character’s strength is like mine, to a completely different degree. Losing family members because of a war,” Cote told Prevention. “I have moments when I just have to hold my heart. But I also have to remember that if I played the character from my point of view, she’d be falling apart all the time. She has to keep it together–it’s the world she grew up in.”

Shutterstock/Tinseltown

Over the course of the years she was on NCIS, Cote formed strong bonds with most of her co-stars, but that with Mark Harmon seemed to be the strongest of all. They have been close since the moment they met and Cote speaks of Harmon with admiration.

“[Mark Harmon] is more of a friend mentor. He was always like a father figure to me. Obviously, Ziva and Gibbs have that, but Cote and Mark have that as well,” she told BUILD.

“He’s a very busy, famous man. Obviously, there are many months where you just don’t talk, but it’s really nice to know that sometimes when you have friendships but certainly in the family – that’s a given- you can go time without talking, but you’ve laid a foundation. A foundation that is solid.

“From that foundation, you can really go anywhere. You can go years without talking,” Cote added. “Really heavy-duty things can happen, and then all the sudden you’re back, and you can pick up right where you left off.”

John Shearer/WireImage

Asked why she left the show which defined her life and career, Cote said during an occasion that she made such a decision out of respect for her character.

Leaving NCIS was huge for Cote, but she moved on to other significant projects. Among the rest, she landed roles in The 33, Prototype, and Seneca.

Cote, who is 42, hasn’t been married. She, however, knows what she’s looking for in the person she would spend her life with.

“One of the things I love is just being able to have a conversation with somebody, being able to be vulnerable and to feel somebody else’s vulnerability,” she told Cheat Sheet in 2010. “And more so than that, to find the fun and the laughter. If you can laugh with a person, everything’s fine.”

“Eventually, I think it will happen… Things have been slow to come. I think happily they will come when the time is right,” Cote told Rachel Ray in 2013.

Although she’s not part of NCIS any more, Cote remains one of the most popular characters.

Everyone was moved to tears when this horse came to say goodbye to her dying owner

Sheila Marsh has spent her entire life working at the Park Racecourse. Ever since she was 20 years old, she dedicated all her life to the horses she took care of. Her family knew those magnificent creatures were her great love in life and were proud of the attention and care Sheila gave to the horses over the years.

Unfortunately, Sheila was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 77. On her deathbed, besides her children and loved ones, she asked to see her horses for one last time, especially one mare named Brownen. Sheila was Brownen’s caretaker for almost 20 years and they shared a special bond.

Aware of her mother’s health condition and the little time she had, Sheila’s daughter, Tina, pleaded the staff at the Wigan clinic to let her say one final goodbye to her horses. They were willing to satisfy Sheila’s dying wish and brought her gurney to the parking area where her beloved horses were eagerly waiting for her.

When the time came for Brownen to meet her friend of many years, she buried her nose in her cheek as though she was trying to kiss her. Sheila felt joy and gathered strength to whisper Brownen’s name.

“Mom had a hard time talking on her last day, but she clearly called Brownen by name and kissed her,” Tina said.

The photo of Sheila and Brownen kissing was a touching one. It showed that love is the most powerful force on Earth.

“I cried, and every one of the medical attendants also cried. She received consolation, it was such a delightful second! She had a very unique relationship with Brownen. She took care of her for 18 or 19 years, since Brownen was 7. It was touching for us all, because it was very vital.”

Witnessing such strong connection between a human and an animal is beyond wonderful.

Sheila couldn’t leave this world without bidding farewell. She had given her horses love, and she received that love back.

Mixed-race couple recalled the time a priest refused to marry them: ‘We were very upset about that’

It was during the World War II when a young woman named Trudy Menard managed to find a job at the Rootes aircraft factory in Speke, Britain. Little did she know, however, that her life would change forever.

Once she started her job, she was told she would be the assistant of a young engineer named Barclay Patoir who traveled all the way from British Guiana, now known as Guyana, to the United Kingdom to help with the shortage of people working at the factory. “There was a shortage of engineer skills in Britain in World War Two so young men from the Caribbean volunteered to help the mother country,” he later explained.

Trudy was hesitant about working alongside Barclay. Why, you may wonder. Because she was white and he was black. What’s most, Trudy had never seen or been into contact with a black person before, so she was even afraid to get near him.

YouTube/ BBC News

At the beginning, the two barely exchanged a single word, but as time passed by, they grew fond of each other. One day, while there was a break in the production, he invited her on a date and she was more than happy to accept the much-anticipated invitation.

The two took a train to Southport. On the way, they could notice people starring at them with judgment in their look, but neither Trudy nor Barclay cared about what others thought of their relationship.

The times were different back in the day and although Liverpool had one of the first established Black settlements, racism was everywhere.

“I didn’t tell my mother when I was going to see Barclay,” Trudy recalled. “She thought I was going in to town to meet the girls. She had noticed I was very happy but she didn’t know why. When she did find out she threatened to throw me out the house.”

Despite many were against their relationship, in 1944, the two decided to get married. Sadly, an interracial marriage was something people couldn’t accept, not even the priest they went to and asked to marry them.

“He said, ‘There’s so many colored men coming over here and going back home leaving the women with children. So I’m not marrying you.’ We were upset about that,” Trudy recalled.

Instead of a church marriage, Trudy and Barclay organized a small ceremony at the Liverpool Register Office. There were only two people in attendance, except for the newlyweds; Trudy’s sister and one of Barclay’s friends.

They settled in Manchester and welcomed two daughters. Over the course of the years, this couple watched things change when it came to interracial couples and they were glad marrying someone from a different race wasn’t that of a big issue any longer.

“Before people would stop and watch you, or whisper and laugh as you passed and now they’re not bothered,” Barclay said.

“People don’t walk on the other side of the street like they used to,” Trudy commented.

This loving couple stayed together for 76 years before they both passed away in May 2020, within hours of each other.

Barclay was 100, and Trudy was 99.

Despite everything they were forced to go through in their youth, these two led quite a life together.
