King Charles faces a major health challenge. The head of the British monarchy has been diagnosed with cancer, according to the Palace.

It hasn’t been specified what form of cancer he has or at what stage it was discovered. The Palace, however, announced he started tretment today.

Few days ago, King Charles was admitted to the hospital for a surgery for enlarged prostate, which was described as a routine procedure during which doctors discovered the cancer. BBC writes that although there are no details regarding the form of the cancer, it is not a prostate cancer.

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement from Buckingham Palace reads.

The statement further states that he would be forced to either postpone or rearrange his royal duties because of the treatments.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

The King’s most recent photo was taken yesterday, a day before his diagnosis was disclosed with the public.

He was seen waving the crowd with his wife Camilla while on their way to the church service in Sandringham.

As reported by People, King Charles shared the news of the diagnosis with his sons himself, and while William is in close contact with his father on a daily basis, Harry, who settled in sunny California after he and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties, is expected to travel to Britain in the days to come.

The King also personally informed his siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, before the news was made public.

The advance of technology helps facilitate our lives a great deal, but do we pay a high price when it comes to relying on the machines way more than we should?

In order to speed up the process of running errands and shopping for groceries, Walmart introduced self-checkouts. What they didn’t expect, however, is to face backlash because of this decision that many of the customers consider controversial.

The self-service machines aren’t something new. In fact, they were first introduced in the 1980s to lower labor expenses.

But this service faced plenty of obstacles and customers complain to the added responsibilities.

For example, certain items may have multiple barcodes, whereas the produce, including the meat, fruit, and vegetable, typically needs to be weighed and manually entered into the system using a code, which might be time consuming for the ordinary shoppers. Other times shoppers won’t hear the “beep” confirming an item has been scanned properly.

Another issue is the increase of theft. Walmart announced that thefts at its stores has reached an all-time high.

The machines not only fall short at their purpose of making shopping easier at times, but they also make it harder for the employees they were meant to help.

Christopher Andrews, a sociologist and author of The Overworked Consumer: Self-Checkouts, Supermarkets, and the Do-It-Yourself Economy, says the system “doesn’t work well for anyone.”

He continued: “Everyone feels like they have to have it. Companies are thinking: ‘If we can just get more people on this, maybe we can start reducing some overheads.’”

What’s most, most of the customers have reported that they miss the human interaction while shopping.

Randy Parraz from Making Change at Walmart perfectly summed up customer sentiments by saying, “You can’t convince customers to do the job of a cashier just because you don’t want to pay for the work.”

Walmart decided to listen to what their customers had to say and instead of further expanding automation, the retail giant will hire additional cashiers to provide their customers with a pleasant shopping experience and service.

What Walmart and the rest of the retailers, among which Costco and Wegmans, learned is that efficiency is important but maintaining a balance with positive experiences remains crucial.

A woman took to Reddit to share the story of how she ruined her son’s wedding and doesn’t regret it, but wants to know if her act was justified or she’s in the wrong.

Namely, her son Mike was married before. He and his ex-wife welcomed a son together, Tommy.

Tommy was born with Down Syndrome and shortly after his arrival into the world Mike left him and his wife. What’s most, he refused to see his son or have any contact with his now ex-wife. He never provided for the boy.

Mike’s family was angry at him for turning his back to his son, so when his mother learned that he was marrying another wife, she decided she needed to do something about it. The mom didn’t really care if Mike would start a new family, she just wanted him to take responsibility for Tommy.

So, on the day of Mike’s wedding, just as he and his wife-to-be were about to say “I do,” his mother entered the church carrying Tommy in her arms and shared the truth about Mike and how he neglected his son.

Mike’s fiancée was listening with confusion. It was obvious she was in a state of shock after learning the truth about the man she was about to marry.

Moments later, she threw her bouquet at him and she and her family left the church.

Mike’s mom left shortly after and the following day her cousin Liam told her how Mike was raged and showed a range of emotions in front of the confused guests.

“Now I’m not sure if my choice to ruin the wedding was the right one,” Mike’s mom posted. She added that it wasn’t her intention to ruin her son’s wedding in the first place, she only wanted to teach him a lesson and make him take responsibility for Tommy and his actions, but that she doesn’t regret that the wedding didn’t take place.

“It may seem like I went too far, but I think it was important to bring attention to how bad Mike’s neglect was,” the woman wrote.

“I hope this interruption wakes him up so he can change his ways and be there for Tommy as a dad,” she concluded and asked Redditors AITA.

Waiting long hours at the airport can be tiring. With all those people rushing to get their flights, the long queues, and the pressure of flying, not everyone enjoys traveling by plane.

A woman who was about to take a flight wanted to make sure she would be comfortable enough during the trip so she booked a double seat. However, this decision placed her in a very unpleasant situation which required from her to choose between her own comfort and societal expectations.

As she explained, the woman was about to visit her family for Christmas and because of her size, she booked two seats. Of course, she didn’t mind paying more all for the sake of her comfort.

The check-in went smoothly, and once she passed security and boarded the plane, the woman took her seats.

At one moment, a mother and her 18-month-old child approached the woman. Seeing that she was sitting all by her self on two seats, the mother asked the woman if she could squeeze herself in on one seat so that her toddler sits on the other.

The woman said no, but then the mother started making a scene that caught the attention of the flight attendant. Upon realizing what was going on, the flight attendant asked the woman if she was willing to give the seat to the toddler, but the woman refused once again and the mother was told to keep her son in her lap instead.

However, although the mother did what she was asked for, she was mad at the woman and made her flight a living hell by making rude comments and giving her dirty stares.

Later on, the woman couldn’t stop but wonder if she did the right thing or she could simply give up one of the seats she paid in full for to the little boy.

She took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for her action.

Fellow Redditors were quick to share their opinion. Among those who commented under the woman’s post was a mother who also traveled with two young children before. “I’ve taken 9-hour flights with an infant in my arms and shorter flights with a toddler in my lap, who was capable of sitting in his own seat and very much did not want me to hold him. Did it suck? Yes. But it was my problem alone, and as long as my child was under 24 months and I didn’t have to pay for his seat, I chose to hold him. I swear, not all of us parents are this entitled!” 

Another person added: “She’s wrong for not buying a seat for her son and assuming someone else would give up a seat they paid for. Odds are she was hoping there’d be extra seats on the flight so she didn’t have to pay and used the lap thing as a loophole.” 

Another outraged Redditor wrote, “I’d go so far as making a complaint to the airline about their employee supporting another passenger harassing you.”

“You should always do what you can to be as healthy as you can, but being fat isn’t a character flaw or a moral failing. We all have our own challenges in life, and you deserve not to be ashamed of your body and yourself, even if you aren’t currently meeting your goals. If the mom wants an extra seat for her kids, she should have purchased one. She’s not entitled to a seat you purchased, and you don’t need to feel bad for her bad behavior,” someone else wrote.

Some felt for the mother, but eventually everyone agreed that if she wanted a seat for her child she should have simply paid for it.

We often hear stories in which mothers-in-law are depicted as evil. Sadly, they sometimes really are and the reason behind it might be that they feel like their daughters-in-law ‘steal’ their sons from them.

A woman named Janisse shared the story of how her MIL plotted against her in order to turn her husband against her.

It was Janisse’s husband’s birthday and she was looking forward to the party she was preparing for him. She planned to invite all of Carl’s friends and family and wanted everything to go according to plan.

But just as she was getting ready to start preparing the food, Carl’s mother, Sally, called her and told her she wanted to help her with the preparations.

As Janisse always got along with her husband’s family, or at least she thought so, she told her MIL that she was more than welcome to lend her a helping hand.

When Sally arrived, she did help with the food, but in the afternoon, she started acting weird. As she was digging around the fridge and sighed every few minutes, she accused Janisse of not purchasing certain ingredient she needed for some special cookies.

“I can’t find any ingredients for the cookies I wanted to make. I told you that I would make the cookies I’ve made every year for Carl,” Sally said.

“We have so many desserts and the cake as well. So, I think it’s okay. We can do it another day for him,” Janisse told her.

“Janisse,” Sally sighed. “It’s really important to me, okay? It’s a tradition I started when Carl was only three years old. Can you go out and get the ingredients?”

As there was not much time left until the guests were about to arrive, Janisse decided to go to the store, which wasn’t that far, and grab the ingredients her MIL needed.

On her way home, Janisse felt like a superhero because she knew the party would be a great one, but her joy was short lived.

The moment Janisse opened the car’s door, Carl burst out of the house like she’d committed a crime and he wanted to catch her in the act. He accused her of leaving his mother all alone to prepare everything for the party. When she explained that wasn’t the case and it wasn’t as it looked like, he told her she wasn’t telling the truth.

Janisse tried to tell him that she was the one who prepared most of the food and that she only took a short trip to the store to grab the ingredients for the traditional cookies his mom made for him, but he said there were no such cookies and that she was childish to believe that ‘cookie tradition.’

Still unaware what was going on, Janisse went to her room. She had a quick shower and shortly after the guests started to arrive.

Carl avoided Janisse all evening, and when the time came for the cake to be served it was Sally who brought it to the table and started singing “Happy Birthday.”

Sally acted as though she was host and it looked like she was the one who was throwing the party for her son, not Janisse.

When the guests left and Janisse and Carl were alone, she tried to explain what really happened and that his mom plotted against her, but he didn’t want to listen because he was certain his mom would never do such a thing.

The following morning, Carl woke Janisse up and apologized for not trusting her. Janisse was puzzled and asked him what made him change his mind about the entire situation. He then explained that his mother was bragging to someone about her master plan, but she accidentally sent the message to Carl.

Carl then went to the other room, in which his mom spent the night, and tried to talk to her in order to learn why she would do such a horrible thing. It turned out that contrary to what Janisse believed, her MIL didn’t really like her because of her political and religious beliefs. Janisse was shocked because her MIL never mentioned anything about it before.

However, no matter what Sally did, Carl and Janisse decided to forgive her eventually.

“We’re going to Bali to celebrate your birthday next year,” I told him. “No friends, no family, and absolutely no drama!” Janisse told her husband.

Contrary to the opinion of many, stay-at-home moms do have a lot on their plate. From running errands, making sure the house is all clean, and taking care of the kids, the work these moms do sometimes goes unnoticed.

When a woman named Sara got married and gave birth to two children, she decided to quit her job as an interior designer and focus on raising her sons, Cody and Sonny.

She was responsible about plenty of things around the house while her husband had a well-paid job as a gave developer.

He did provide for the family, but he somehow never appreciated his wife’s work only because she didn’t have a ‘real’ job. What’s most, he was barely around. As his job required working overtime, Harry stayed at the office late, and whenever he would return home, he expected his wife to have taken care of the house, the children, and even his stuff.

One morning, as Sara and the kids were waiting for him to have breakfast with them, Harry entered the kitchen while looking at his phone and didn’t even greet his wife and children back. He just grabbed a piece of toast and returned to his room. A moment later he started yelling at Sara for not having his white shirt ironed for the upcoming meeting that was of crucial importance to him.

“I didn’t have enough whites for a full load until now. You have other white shirts!!” Sara explained.

“This is a big day for me, and you’re making excuses?” Harry retorted.

“You’re overreacting, Harry. Your presentation is what matters. It’s just a shirt. So stop barking, alright?”

“Oh really? I’m barking? You wanna do this now?”

“Do what, Harry? You’re making a scene for a stupid little thing. And nobody would be interested in what color shirt you’re wearing when all eyes would be fixed on your goddamn presentation.”

“A goddamn presentation? Come again…Did you just say that? Do you have any idea how I’ve been busting my butt off day and night for that project?”

“Watch your words. The kids….”

“You sit at home all day doing nothing,” Harry blurted out. “Is it too hard to remember one simple thing? All you do is Blah Blah Blah and NOTHING at home.”

“Harry, stop this. The kids are watching. You’re scaring them.”

“Oh really? And nobody watches you when you’re on the goddamn phone gossiping all the time with your friends. Nobody watches that, huh, Sara? You can never be a good wife if you can’t do even a simple thing for me!”

Harry’s words broke Sara’s heart. She couldn’t put up with the way he treated her any longer. She let go of her career for him and the kids, but he never appreciated her efforts.

Harry put a random shirt on and headed to the office. His presentation was a successful one, and he couldn’t wait to share the news with Sara and the kids, although he was a bit puzzled because she didn’t call him during the day to apologize for arguing with him. Sara was the one who always apologized first, no matter if she was right or wrong.

When Harry entered the house, he stumbled upon a note written by Sara which read that she wanted a divorce.

Harry was confused and called Sara’s sister Zara who informed him that Sara was admitted to the hospital.

Harry went to the hospital. He asked to see Sara and talk to her. The doctors told him she had a mild attack and that he could only stay for a few minutes in her room.

Seeing Sara, Harry got teary. He asked her if she really meant it when she wrote she wanted to divorce him. Her answer was a resounding yes. He tried to change her mind, but she didn’t want to listen.

When she was discharged from the hospital, Sara didn’t return home. She left the kids with Harry and left.

He was now in a very difficult position. Not only he was going to work, but he was also taking care of them.

As he was struggling to balance between home and work, Harry started being late and not being able to complete his tasks on time.

One day, his boss, who was also his friend, invited him over for a drink because he wanted them to discuss something about work.

“Harry, we’ve noticed you’ve been missing deadlines and coming in late. And we’re a business…If you know what I mean,” the boss, Mr. Adams said.

Harry, trying to lighten the mood, joked, “So, you plan to let your best game developer go?”

“I’m afraid, yes,” Mr. Adams replied seriously. “It’s out of my hands. I’ll give you good recommendations.”

“What? Please, don’t do this! I need this job for my kids.”

As Harry left the bar, he received a call from Sara. She hadn’t call him in a while, and what she told him left him entirely speechless.

His ex-wife informed him that she wanted the custody of the children.

“Custody?? How dare you? After you left us?” Harry fumed.

“Harry, I’m their mother. I have rights,” Sara insisted.

“You abandoned them, and now you want to take them away? They’re used to me now,” Harry argued.

Sara was determined. “I deserve to have them back. I’ll see you in court.”

On the day of the hearing, the judge got to listen to both Sara’s and Harry’s side of the story.

Now that he lost his job and was only working as a freelance video editor, he wasn’t making much money. Sara on the other hand landed a job as an interior designer and made more money than her ex.

After the hearing, the judge decided to give full custody to Sara.

Harry was devastated. He was used to taking care of his sons. Sara was missing for six months, and he was the only person in their lives during that period.

“….Mr. Harry, you’ll have the right to visit your children and take them with you two days a week. You’re required to pay $860 as support to your children every month. This case is now closed.”

When the day arrived for Sara to take the kids with her, they weren’t willing to leave their dad.

Following her two-week hospital stay, the Palace announced that the Princess of Wales would return to Windsor where she would continue her recovery.

According to the palace, the abdominal surgery Kate Middleton had undergone at the private London clinic was a planned one. However, they hadn’t provided any further details, which intrigued the public’s curiosity.

Sadly, they, along with the media, put pressure on the Palace into revealing more information regarding Kate’s surgery, which some experts dub a form of bullying, something Kate experienced before in her life.

What rose suspicion was the fact that Kate decided not to share the news of her surgery with no one except her family members. According to People Magazine, Kate Middleton’s hospitalization was a complete surprise for those working closely with the royals, relatives, and friends within William and Kate’s broader circle. The Princess of Wales hid that something was up.

On Kate’s birthday, which she celebrated with only her closest family and friends at Anmer Hall on January 9, there was no indication that anything is wrong with her.

“The carefully guarded news about Kate’s situation came as a surprise even to those who work closely with the royal family,” People reported.

The London Clinic, where Kate had her surgery, is in many ways related to the royals. During the years, several members of the Firm were involved in opening certain facilities of the hospital. Then-Prince Charles opened its physiotherapy department in 1989, and just two years later, Princess Margret opened the MRI unit. The hospital’s new cancer unit was opened by late Queen Elizabeth II in 2010.

The facility has a leading cancer center which provides radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

In the past, Princess Margaret was treated there when she had a benign skin lesion removed, and Prince Philip was admitted there for what was described as an “abdominal investigation.”

When it comes to Kate, she needs to take some time off from her public duties. As per the Palace, she would only be able to return to her duties around Easter.

Dr Max Pemberton, a full-time psychiatrist with the NHS explains that the Princess of Wales should take her time until she recovers completely.

“The Palace has said she’ll be taking time off official duties until Easter and on this, I think she’s incredibly sensible. We don’t know what’s wrong or why she needed the operation, but Kate has always struck me as quite down-to-earth, level-headed and stoical, so I’m sure she wouldn’t have heeded medical advice and taken that much time off unless really necessary,” he said, as per the Daily Mail.

“Abdominal surgery is serious. Of course, there’s always someone who will tell you how they had a hysterectomy in their lunch break, or their appendix removed while on the school run. But in reality we should all be taking a leaf out of Kate’s book and convalescing properly.”

Further, he advises the readers that before getting back to work following a surgical procedure, they should fully recover, both mentally and physically.

The doctor shared his personal experience with an abdominal surgery and said he wished he appreciated how major his own operation was before he returned to work.

“I hope Kate makes a speedy recovery, but also hope she doesn’t return to duties until she’s good and ready,” the doctor concluded.

As much as Kate wants to keep the details of her surgery private, the public puts pressure on her and the Palace to reveal further details.

Royal expert Richard Eden appeared on the show Palace Confidential and revealed that readers constantly send letters to The Times, asking questions regarding Kate’s procedure.

He dubbed this efforts by the public “bullying.”

“I think that there’s no reason why she should feel bullied into giving more details,” Eden said, per Express. “If she wants to, at a later point, fine, that’s up to her. But, she shouldn’t feel that she has to.

“It’s been ‘She should give more details,’ and ‘Why doesn’t she?’

“And there’s been more pressure, there’s even been letters written to The Times newspaper, saying it would be a great example to other women if she was to be more open about her medical problems and this sort of thing.”

In the past, Kate experienced bullying, especially when she attended the all-girls boarding school Downe House.

Despite her parents paying around £28,000 pounds in tuition, attending Downe House didn’t turn out to be the best decision as Kate experienced a very hard time there. According to her former classmates, she was often teased and bullied and she felt like she didn’t fit there.
