5-year-old brother carries baby sister’s coffin to say goodbye for the last time

The bond between siblings is the strongest there is. Having a brother or sister means having a friend for life.

Meagan and Laurence Collard, a couple from Western Australia, lived a picture perfect life with their two sons, Franklin and Cayden. However, they always wanted to have a girl and the boys wanted a little sister so when Meagan learned she was pregnant with daughter the entire family was over the moon.

Everyone was in anticipation of meeting the newest addition to the family so when Piper Winifred was welcomed into the world it was the happiest moment in their life.

Baby Piper reached every milestone when she was supposed to, and everything seemed fine with her until she started vomiting one day. Her parents took her to a gastroenterologist and when the little one started experiencing fever, Meagan and Laurence consulted a GP. The girl was diagnosed with an ear infection and was prescribed medication.

Unfortunately, around a month later, Piper went through another similar episode. This time, however, Meagan got extremely concerned because she discovered a hard lump on Piper’s stomach.

This raise a red flag and the girl was again taken to hospital. The blood results indicated HIV, hepatitis or cancer. Hearing this, Meagan got extremely scared because she was somewhat certain her daughter couldn’t possibly have HIV or hepatitis because she was tested for those while pregnant. While they waited for further tests to be done, they prayed Piper didn’t have cancer. Sadly, the news were heartbreaking. Piper had neuroblastoma, a form of cancer commonly found in infants.

At that point, Piper’s cancer had spread from her adrenal glands, to the liver, lymph nodes, abdomen, chest cavity, and ovaries.

The family was aware things wouldn’t be easy, but they were determined to fight for their daughter’s life.

At the age of 11 months, Piper went through five sessions of chemo, a stem transplant surgery, radiation and immunotherapy. Al these procedures were painful and tiring, but Piper started feeling better and it looked like it was all worth it.

Piper was home for Christmas and it seemed like things started to fall into place, but this family’s happiness was short lived.

Their worst fear came true. The cancer was back, and it spread even further than before.

In an attempt to save Piper’s life, her parents tried to place her in an overseas medical trial but they were turned down because the function of her liver was low.

Instead, Piper underwent more chemo sessions in hopes of getting her liver to function a bit better so that they could apply for the trial again. Sadly, after the fourth day of chemo, Piper’s health deteriorated.

On June 17, Meagan and Laurence were told there was nothing that could be done for Piper and told them to take her home. The parents were aware she was living the last days of her life but didn’t know how to tell that to Piper’s brothers.

On June 20, Piper seemed happy and cheerful. She gathered strength to play with her big brothers, but later that day, she started vomiting blood. Meagan called the home nurse, but the only thing she could do was give the little one pain relief meds.

That night, Piper passed away and left her family heartbroken and mourning her loss.

On the day of Piper Winifred’s funeral, her 5-year-old brother Cayden carried her casket. He wanted to hold his little sister for one final time. It was his was of saying goodbye. The sight was heartbreaking and touching at the same time. It showed the love this boy had for his sister and reminded everyone who witnessed the scene that the bond between siblings is unbreakable.

In honor of their little girl who touched their lives forever, her parents shared her story through a Facebook page dedicated to Piper’s fight which aims at raising awareness about neuroblastoma.

Rest in peace, Piper, you are missed and loved.

Two brothers, aged 5 and 7, spent a whole week locked inside their home with their mom’s dead body.

Mom’s creative punishment for her son is getting all the praise from other parents

Being a great parent requires a lot of dedication, patience and hard work. So how do you teach a young mind to behave, to follow rules, and be well-mannered? Some parents believe that the best way to achieve all this is through talking. You just talk things through and expect from your child to understand what you are asking from them. Other, however, believe that punishments work best when it comes to teaching their children a lesson. I guess one needs to balance in order to raise their kids right.

One mother shared online that her son got grounded for using his phone after bed time, something he was clearly told he shouldn’t do. But kids will be kids. Most times, they want things to be done their way and object to follow rules.

Well, this mom also shared that in order for her son to get “ungrounded,” he needed to earn 500 points. In case you wonder how those points are earned, she also shared a list of chores which bring certain amount of points. The list goes like this:

Congratulations!
You got grounded!!!
To get rid of your penalty, you must earn 500 points.

Offense: Playing on the mobile phone after bedtime.

  • Write a nice letter to a family member = 10 points
  • Prepare and cook dinner = 50 points
  • 1 load of laundry (get started, hang up, fold) = 100 points
  • Clean and organize a kitchen cupboard = 50 points per shelf
  • Empty the dishwasher = 25 points
  • Load the dishwasher = 25 points
  • Clean and wash off counters = 25 points
  • Clean out microwave  = 40 points
  • Clean and vacuum the living room = 30 points
  • Sweep and mop kitchen = 30 points
  • Wash windows = 10 points per window
  • Water house plants = 10 points
  • Dust living room = 25 points
  • Clean bathroom (sink, toilet and floor) = 50 points
  • Take out trash (and re-bag) = 10 points per garbage bag
  • Clean the litter box = 10 points

The thing is that not many people felt the same with the mother regarding her punishment. Some judged her parenting, but others praised her creativity of teaching her kid a lesson.

Child artist Akiane Kramarik said she saw Jesus’ ‘true’ face in her dreams and decided to paint it on canvas

Akiane Kramarik, the girl with incredible artistic talent, took the world by storm when she created what many dubbed a masterpiece of Jesus Christ. She discovered her inner talent at the age of just three when the son of God showed himself to her in her dreams. The little girl was able to put on a canvas the image she saw and believes it was God himself who gifted her with such talent.

Her paintings, which are realistic beyond belief, brought her fame and everyone seemed to learn about this child prodigy. She was even invited on The Oprah Winfrey Show at the age of ten where she spoke about her visions and her talent.

The strangest thing of all is that Akiane’s parents, who are of Lithuanian origin, are atheists. They never introduced their daughter with any religion. Still, Akiane claimed that her visions and vivid dreams were real.

One of the most remarkable paintings on Jesus is the one titled “Prince of Peace,” which Akiane completed at the age of just eight.

“I was so young but I started having these visions and impressions of the world.

“I was just so surprised at the impeccable images I had in my head that I just had to express them in some sort of physical matter,” Akiane explained.

As he dreams and visions quickly lost clarity, she tried to put them on canvas using paints and brushes as quickly as she could.

Speaking of God, in an interview with CNN at the age of 12, she described him “like a bow of light, really pure, really masculine, really strong, and big…His eyes are just beautiful.”

As of Heaven, Akaine said, “All the colors were out of this world. There are hundreds of millions of colors that we don’t know yet. The flowers were very crystal clear…”

Today, Akaine is 27 years old and is working as a poet and an artist. Her piece “Prince of Peace,” was allegedly locked in a bank vault for many years after it was sold to a private collector for $850,000.

What a talented young lady.

If you are impressed by Akaine’s work as much as we are, please SHARE this article with your family and friends on Facebook!

When police receive a letter from a 9-year-old girl, they find $10 bill stuffed inside and take immediate action

Chances are your parents “threatened” to call the police on you when you misbehaved as a young child. Sadly, many parents do this and that makes police officers bad and scary people in the eyes of the youngsters.

One 9-year-old girl named Brooke Yost had a feeling that cops are not good people because she knew they place people behind bars, not knowing that what they really do is make sure their community stays safe.

So, one day, as she was waiting in a queue to buy a dozen donuts at a gas station, she realized she didn’t have enough money. She got nervous, and that feeling only grew bigger when she noticed a police officer standing behind her. For some reason, she believed that because of her lack of money, the officer would arrest her. Of course, that wasn’t what happened. Instead, the officer, who didn’t want her to leave the place empty-handed, paid for the donuts.

SOURCE: JACK PROMMEL/ UNSPLASH

Ashamed and scared, Brooke grabbed the donuts, said thank, you and left the store.

However, once home, she realized that her thank you didn’t sound genuine, although she was truly grateful. In order to make things right, she decided to write a thank you note. Along with it, she put $10 for the officer in the envelope she sent to the police station.

“My name is Brooke and I am 9 years old. I was at Sheetz and I didn’t have enough money. A nice police officer behind me kindly paid for my item. I thanked him but I felt bad because I didn’t offer him the money I had. So I am donating this money. I want to thank this officer again. Stay safe, Brooke,” the note read.

The letter got to officer Chad Savannah, who paid for the donuts. Brooke’s letter touched his heart. The rest of the officers got emotional as well.

They were glad Brooke sent her gratitude and instead of taking her money, they bought her a $50 gift card. Brooke, however, stunned them again when she decided not to buy anything for herself but donated the card to charity. The officers then decided to welcome her to the station and give her a tour around it, explaining more about the job they do.

Once the story went viral, everyone praised Brooke’s act. Along with that, many agreed that her parents did a right job raising such a loving and considerate child.

“We’re trying to teach our kids right. That’s all we’re trying to do is teach them the right thing to do and to take care of what they owe for. We felt that she owed for them donuts,” Brooke’s mom said.

What a lovely story during these hard times for the humanity.

3 men approach a 77-year-old grandmother at an ATM: They immediately realize that they have chosen the wrong person for the robbery

The elderly have been on this planet long enough in order to gather all the knowledge about life and learn how things work, so massing with them is never a good idea.

Interestingly enough, three youngsters who wanted to act criminals learned this firsthand. We are sure they won’t even try getting near old people in the near future. This story may also teach others a lesson before they even try making something as stupid as these gangsters tried to do.

It was a day just like any other for 77-year-old grandma Winifred Peel. She was out taking a walk when she decided to stop at the nearest ATM. That’s when she encountered Piper Dumitru, Florin Geblescu, and Felix Stoica. They had a ‘perfect plan’ that went down the drain when they realized they messed with the wrong person.

As the lady tried to withdraw some cash, she could suddenly feel someone was standing behind her. She very quickly realized how it wasn’t someone waiting in line, but a thief who was there for her money. The person knocked Peel off balance while his friend tried to get £200.

She knew they planned this action as she recalled seeing them the day before. They were following her from the moment she got out of the bank.

This quick-thinking lady knew she mustn’t let those youngsters make her a victim, so she grabbed one of them by the collar and banged his head on the ATM using all her strength. She then alerted the police about the incident.

The officers who came to the scene were able to track the three men down. They were charged and are now where they deserve to be; behind bars. Peel was relieved to learn the attackers were jailed, and says that although she hoped they would serve some jail time, she initially believed they would just be told off.

This incident affected Peel in a way she never though it could affect her. She told Metro, “They did not care about how this would affect me. I would definitely say this has changed my life, I will never have the confidence I once did. I only hope my confidence returns.”

We are lucky this fierce lady wasn’t injured, although she now fears that someone could attack her again. However, thanks to her courage, as well as the fact that she was a regular gym visitor in her 70s, she could get out of that situation as a winner.

Thugs believe the elderly are an easy target, but luckily there are more people like Winifred, who fight back when they find themselves in trouble. Just take a look at the video below. It shows a pensioner who pushes back against the robber who attacks him at the ATM and throws in a bunch of punches.

Next time you think elderly people are an easy target, think again.

Family that adopted 3 brothers couldn’t take fourth, so their neighbors gave him a home

Life works in mysterious ways. The truth is that no matter our plans, things sometimes don’t take the turn we hope for. Other times, however, everything simply falls into place.

Julie Washington and her husband B.J had two beautiful daughters, but the thought of adoption has always been there. Eventually, they decided to open the doors to their hearts and home for three young siblings who were left orphaned and ended up in the foster system.

The thing was that the three siblings had another brother. Sadly, welcoming four boys wasn’t something this family was able to do. The youngest one, Elijah, was about to stay in the foster system unless someone adopted him.

Image Credits: Amanda Sumner | PEOPLE

This bothered the Washington family a lot. But then, something huge happened. Jay Houston, a friend of Julie residing in the same town who was already a mom of five, learned about Elijah and was determined to give him a loving home. So, she took then 17-month-old Elijah home around six months before the adoption was finalized.

I’m the youngest of seven kids and I was adopted. Growing up, that’s always something I wanted to do. It was immediate (adopting Elijah). His former foster mom sent us a video of him laughing, smiling, crawling and I knew he would fit right in,” Jay said.

Kids in foster care come with such a negative stigma attached to them. These kids are kids and they just need love and I can’t explain how much these kids have changed my life. My husband and I are the lucky ones,” she added.

Image Credit: ABC News | Youtube

The best thing of all was that sweet Elijah could grow up around his siblings, despite the fact they won’t share a home together. Their moms, however, are very close friends and do all in their power for the brothers to spend as much time together as possible.

When I found out about Elijah we were still in the process of bringing our boys home. We went from having two to five kids and one has special needs. We weren’t sure if we were able to take in another child. I knew how important it was to Houston to keep siblings together. They said they were open to having another child and we made a pact to keep them together so it kind of just fell into place,” Julie said.

The families are now even closer than before. Julie’s husband, B.J, who is a research assistant at the University of Georgia, said: “The adoption of all four boys has joined our two families for life. Our main goal is to make sure they have the bond that brothers would have in a traditional family.

Jay’s husband shares the same thoughts. “Our lives are infinitely better because these boys are a part of it. I’m so glad that we decided to grow our family this way. People tell us often that our kids are lucky, but the truth is, we’re the lucky ones. We are the ones who have been blessed,” he says.

This story speaks compassion and love. We definitely need more people like the Washington and the Houston families in this world.

Those protecting our freedom and putting their lives on the line are the most courageous people of all. The truth is that no matter what we do, we can never thank our servicemen and servicewomen enough for their sacrifice.

The following story is touching beyond words because it shows the bravery and the selflessness of our soldiers.

Shawn David Thomas was a Special Forces warrant officer who tragically lost his life during his eighth deployment in Niger, Africa. Under his fierce looks, this man was a gentle giant loved by his family and all the people who knew him.

On February 14, 2017, Shawn’s flag-draped coffin arrived at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in Morrisville, North Carolina. At the time of the arrival, the passengers on one of the flights witnessed the heartbreaking scene when Shawn’s wife, Tara Thomas, approached the coffin, placed her hands on the Star-Spangled Banner, and burst into tears unable to control her emotions.

One of the passengers, Lisa West Williams, felt the urge to film the emotional moment because she believed it showed the reality of the families whose loved ones serve the country and protect our freedom.

The rest of the passengers were deeply moved too. “They were just amazed and they were crying. You could hear sniffles. The lady behind me actually said, ‘Oh, another angel’s coming home,'” Lisa said.

Later, Lisa got in touch with Tara and asked her if she could share the video online. The grieving widow agreed. According to Lisa, “She [Tara] wanted to show the world that this goes on and that we should be thankful for these men and women.”

Officer says final goodbye to K9 dog who spent his entire life fighting crime

Dogs are man’s best friend, and I am sure that every person who has ever owned one of these very special creatures would easily agree with this saying.

The thing is that dogs have become an inseparable part of our lives, and they are not only pets, but also valuable members of the community because many of them are part of the police and serve as service dogs who help the vulnerable.

Axel was a very special canine. He was part of the Central Falls Police Department for many years. Even after he retired, Axel was always there for the people of his community. In fact, everyone knew him and loved him dearly, so when he passed away recently, a huge number of people rushed to express their grief and sadness over the loss of someone as exceptional as Axel.

The department he served posted a touching tribute on their Facebook page and wrote: “He did a phenomenal job at keeping the streets safe, and he always made sure our officers were safe regardless as to how dangerous a situation was. He wouldn’t have hesitated to give his life to save the life of a fellow officer, especially his partner, Officer Decristoforo.”

Before working with Officer Decristoforo, Axel was part of another department and everyone thought the K9 would have a hard time adjusting to working with new humans, but that was never the case. In fact, Axel and his new partner were “instantly best friends who were sure to have each other’s back.”

Today we mourn a true hero! 🐶🚔🇺🇸

The department also wrote how Officer Decristoforo lost his “other half” and included a message for him. “Axel loved you more than he loved himself! That’s just the type of dog he was. He was yours! He would have done anything for you. Now he needs you to do something for him! Stay strong and try and remember he wouldn’t want to see you upset!”

They expressed gratitude for everything Axel did for the department and the community both during the years of his active service and later. “Axel, I want to thank you for watching over us as you have! It was an honor and a privilege to not only know you but to get to work with you. You will forever be my favorite retired officer.”

Rest in peace, Axel.

Man dumps girlfriend after learning she was born male and kept it secret for over nine months

Relationships are supposed to be based on mutual trust, so when one of the partners is keeping secrets, it can easily lead to bed feelings and even break up. Of course, whether the other partner would be able to forgive the lies depends on how big they are.

A man named Alex got involved in a relationship with a woman he believed was the one. They dated for around nine months and everything seemed perfect. He was in love and very happy. However, that all changed when a friend of his revealed to him that his girlfriend was keeping a secret from him.

As they were having fun one night and drank a bit more, the friend approached Alex and said: “Look, Alex, I have been hiding something from you, I think you need to know this. I can’t leave you thinking this is a great and honest relationship. Your girlfriend is born a male and underwent surgery when he was 18 years old.”

Needless to say, Alex was shocked. His entire world turned upside down. He had a hard time processing the news and didn’t know whether to believe it or not.

“I didn’t believe him at first, it was mixed emotions, but I still didn’t believe it. After I confronted her, I found her pills and her estrogen tablets,” Alex continued his story. “I felt angry and cold, there were many emotions in one go. I didn’t know what to do.”

They eventually broke up.

What do you think of this? Was Alex right to dump his girlfriend? Did she make a mistake hiding something so big from him?

A mark on their daughter’s neck made them overthink – after the doctor appointment, everything changed

Going to the doctors every once in a while, despite feeling healthy, is a good thing. Many times, it is during regular checkups that people learn they suffer from certain illnesses or conditions.

When the parents of a 14-year-old girl spotted strange marks on her neck, they believed it was color from her shirt, or maybe dirt. But after the dark color didn’t go away after trying to wash it off, it raised a red flag.

As they were unaware what was wrong, the worried parents took their daughter to the doctors. The moment the doctor laid eyes on the girl’s neck, she demanded tests to be run in order to check how the girl’s pancreas worked. Apparently, those marks, which resembled dirt, showed that this organ didn’t function properly. The pancreas plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body’s cells. This organ has two main functions: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar. Problems with the pancreas can affect the entire body. If the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes, for example, food will not be properly absorbed. This can lead to weight loss, diarrhea, and diabetes.

Thankfully for this teen, her mom and dad acted right away and further damage was prevented. She was prescribed proper medications and is now doing fine.

Whenever you notice anything unusual about your body consult a specialist as soon as possible.

Brothers Bera and Tsotne Ivanishvili were born with albinism – now the internet is going wild over their amazing looks

Bidzina Ivanishvili, a billionaire from Georgia, the former Soviet Republic on the Black Sea, made his money at the time of the mad collapse of the USSR. When he returned to his home country from Russia, back in 2003, he undertook numerous populist movements and people dubbed him the billionaire with the heart of gold. This affection he enjoyed helped his newly formed political party win the elections in 2012, with Bidzina taking the role of a Prime Minister of Georgia.

Now, as much as this man’s life is interesting for Georgians and people from other countries, it’s his two albino sons who took the country by storm. Some years ago, when pictures of Bera and Tsotne Ivanishvili emerged online, people were eager to learn more about their personal lives.

Instagram/beraofficial

Bera is now a famous musician. His brother, who is 11 years younger, is also a creative soul interested in arts and painting.

As the family split their time between Russia, Georgia, and France, Bera was born in Paris. Regarding his albinism and being different from most of the people he knows, he has a unique view and believes that being albino is something he as a musician and someone people look up to should help raise awareness of.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a place without being stared at,” Bera told Wired. “But growing up different, as an albino kid, it was never a problem for me because of my parents.”

Instagram/beraofficial

The brothers’ mother, Ekaterine also spoke of her children’s albinism. “When someone is just born this way, standing out, they’re gonna hate this person for being born different. They’re being jealous, and evil. I dealt with it. Like a gangster. You know? Yes, it gave me that warrior mentality. But everyone is not made for this,” she said.

When Tsotne was born, Bera, who is 11 years older, was over the moon. He recalled saying that his little brother was just like him, as Tsotne is albino, too. “And he saw that he can be different and society can love you and, you know, the females can love you. You know, it’s important,” Bera said.

Instagram/beraofficial

Both brothers learned how to embrace their condition and love the way they are. Instead as of a flaw, they consider being albinos their super power. “My dad is genuinely shocked to this day. ‘Is there really any people that think the way you look is bad? You guys are like angels. The way you are is so cool,’” Bera told Wired.

Bera started his mucis career after meeting producer Rob Fusari, who had previously worked with artists such as Lady Gaga and Destiny’s Child. Fusari helped Bera a lot, including teaching him how to hide his “post-soviet” accent while singing by stretching “awkward-sounding vowels into calculated melodies.”

“Bera is incredibly unique,” Fusari said. “He brings a magical energy. It’s kind of like being around a unicorn.”

The brothers are extremely close and often share photos of themselves together.

In 2018, after dating for a couple of months, Bera got engaged and later married his girlfriend Nanuka Gudadvadza, as reported by Georgia Today. In 2019, they welcomed son Beruka.

Bera and Tsotne Ivanishvili are the perfect example that being different can be a good thing.

One of the biggest secrets kept from humanity: The pineal gland

The advancements in medicine are moving at a rapid pace, yet, there are still plenty of things doctors and researchers are unable to discover about human’s brain. For example, just recently, world-renowned cartographer of the brain, Scientia Professor George Paxinos AO, from Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) discovered a previously unknown hidden part of the brain found close to brain-spinal cord junction. Besides neurons, our brains contain a number of blood vessels and a third class of brain cells known collectively as glia — many of which are even more poorly understood than neurons. Scientists do all in their power to break these numbers down, which would eventually lead to a better comprehension of how the brain functions and how information is processed.

One part of our brain known as pineal gland, a small, pea-shaped gland in the brain, is still surrounded by mystery regarding its full potential. This pineal glad is also known as “third eye” because of its primary function of ‘letting in light and darkness.’

It is in charge of the production of serotonin derivative melatonin that has to deal with our hormones that affect the modulation of sleep/wake patterns, including our seasonal functions. The pineal gland is placed near the center of the brain, between the two hemispheres.

Many believe that this tiny part of our brain is the portal between the physical and the spiritual world. French philosopher René Descartes regarded the pineal gland as the principal seat of the soul and the place in which all our thoughts are formed.

If activated, the gland could allow us to travel to other dimensions, or better known as astral projection.

However, the main reason why we can’t use the full potential of the pineal gland, according to researchers, is because its function is lowered due to its absorbtion of most of the sodium fluoride that enters our bodies. The water supply in the US contains 90% of fluoride and other various components.

For more on this incredible part of our brain go to the video below to listen to what Rick Strassman, M. D has to say.

The fateful call that changed Roseanne Barr’s life forever

Roseanne Barr’s ability to make people laugh made her the second highest-paid female actress in the industry during the last two seasons of the hit show Roseanne.

Born to a family of Jews with Russian roots who found themselves living in a strict Mormon society in Salt Lake City forced the family to pretend they were Mormons themselves. Speaking of her childhood, the actress told The Guardian in 2008: ”Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning I was a Jew; Sunday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon, and Wednesday afternoon we were Mormons,” and added: ”You weren’t supposed to think there. First of all it was frowned upon to be a girl, and second of all to be a fat, dark-haired girl who had no waist, and third to be a loudmouthed, short, fat, dark girl.”

She started her career as a comedian after she left home and went to Colorado where she worked a number of poorly paid jobs. Eventually, she ended up working as a cocktail waitress. She practiced her comedy with the customers who advised her to try herself as a comedian.

”My customers encouraged me to go down to this comedy club. I didn’t know it was there. So I went down there and watched everybody,” Barr told Hawaii Tribune-Herald.

During a performance at the famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Barr attracted the attention of comedy producer George Schlatter which led to gigs on The Tonight Show in 1985, and Late Night with David Letterman in 1986.

That was a start of a very successful career. Barr was soon dubbed ”Domestic Goddess” and her working-class edge humor made her a famous name in the showbiz.

Barr revealed that she found inspiration for her comedy from her personal life. ”It’s all personal experience. I’m not an actress. I’m not Meryl Streep. I don’t go up there and invent all this stuff. It has to come from what you really feel and believe, or else it’s not real. And if it’s not real, people don’t think it’s funny,” she told Forth-Worth Star-Telegram.

During the late 80’s, Barr became a household name and a mega star with the show Roseanne, which aired from 1988 to 1997.

The first episode was watched by 21 million households, a staggering number indeed.

Barr often got into argument with the producers, especially because all the credits for the show were given to writer Matt Williams. This made Barr angry and she demanded him to be replaced by other writers, which eventually happened.

Besides enormous popularity, the show brought Barr a number of awards, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Over the years, she had gone through some tough times, including a brain injury at the age of 16 which affected her health a great deal at the time.

Later, in the midst of her popularity, an incident almost ruined her career and her popularity. During a nationally aired baseball game, Barr performed the American anthem, ”The Star-Spangled Banner,” when she grabbed her groin and spat in the middle of singing. This made people furious. They though she was disrespectful and even then-President George H. W. Bush called it “disgraceful.”

”I’m not going to apologize for doing it, because I feel like it was the wrong choice for all of us to make. But not anybody anticipated (the reaction) would be this negative . . . You can all take this as fun or you can act like this is the worst thing committed by an American. I went down there with the best intentions. We thought it would be a fun, positive thing . . . I’m sorry I didn’t sing so good. How much more can I say?” Barr responded.

Barr was married three times and has 5 children. She first got pregnant at the age of 18. At the time, she was very poor and didn’t have a decent place to live. However, despite the situation, she was determined to give birth, and that’s exactly what happened. Sadly, as she didn’t have enough money to take care of her baby daughter, she put her up for adoption but promised to find her later in life. ”You remember this. I’ll see you when you are 18,” she whispered in her daughter’s ear.

In 1972, a year after giving birth to her first child, Barr met Bill Pentland. Two years later, the two tied the knot and welcomed three children together. However, as Barr’s career took off, her marriage started falling apart. She has always spoke of Bill dearly.

In 1990, Barr married fellow comedian Tom Arnold. Their relationship was quite complicated, mainly because of his alcoholism and drug addiction, something he eventually managed to overcome. It was during this marriage that Roseanne found consolation in plastic surgeries. ”I think that’s why I had all that surgery. Every time I had a break I would have surgery. I think just to get away from him [Arnold] and then when I came back there’d be nurses in the house and I wouldn’t be alone with him,” Barr told The Guardian.

She also struggled with her weight and was on strict diets numerous times. One time, she was able to lose 350 pounds. Then, in 1998, she had undergone gastric bypass surgery. “I had my entire digestive system removed, so I should look thinner,” she joked in 2007.

Around the time her second marriage ended, Barr got the most important call in her life.

“A tabloid called to tell me, ‘We found your daughter.’ I was stunned.

“They had gotten hold of the birth certificate of the baby girl I bore out of wedlock and gave up for adoption after nine days in Denver when I was 18. I was so pissed off. I had left information allowing her to find me when she turned 21. I had even told my own kids about the adoption a year earlier because I knew she was 17 and might try to find me,” the actress told People.

Around a month after that fateful call, Barr and her daughter reunited at the Westwood Marquis Hotel.

In 1995, Barr married her third husband, Ben Thomas, with whom she has son Buck. The marriage ended in 2002.

Today, Barr lives with partner Johnny Argent. The two reside on her farm in Hawaii, known as the Hidden Hamakua Farm.

Barr has a net worth of $80 million.

Christina Aguilera turned 41 and is looking as stunning as always

Stunningly beautiful, successful, and brave, this is the story of Christina Aguilera, the woman who grew up right in front of the eyes of her fans and is still making enchanting music up until this day. On top of that, the stunning musician is a devoted mother and serves as an inspiration for millions of young women who are not afraid to follow their dreams, just as she did.

Shutterstock

Aguilera found herself under the spotlight after she was chosen to be part of the Mouseketeers on The All New Mickey Mouse Club along with other future stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling. This show was her breakthrough and she managed to make a name for herself at a very young age.

In fact, Aguilera’s talent for singing was obvious. Not only she was great at it, but she never missed a change to sing as well. Her mother, who divorced her father and moved with Aguilera and her sister to Rochester, Pennsylvania from New York, took her daughter to Japan to record her first single with Japanese pop star Keizo Nakanishi. Their song, All I Wanna Do, was a huge hit and at that point, everyone knew this cute blonde girl would make a successful career in the music industry.

Shutterstock

Witnessing how her father was always dominant over her mother, Aguilera promised herself to always be her own queen.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the singer said, “When it comes to personal relationships. I made up my mind at a really young age that I had to do for myself. I never wanted a man to tell me what I could and couldn’t do, what I could and couldn’t spend, I always knew I had to be the queen of my castle.” And, she kept this promise.

As her career took off, Aguilera made some bold moves regarding both her music style and the way she dressed. However, as many loved what she was offering, others believed she was being inappropriate and called her names. This was mainly because of her songs Lady Marmalade and Dirty. She, however, never seemed to care what people say, although their words affected her to certain degree.

Shutterstock

“It’s hard to hear yourself being called names,” she told Cosmopolitan. “I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting Britney as the good girl and me as the bad girl. It’s like, if I’m going to be demure and innocent, that’s OK. But if I’m going to just be myself, I’m trouble.”

Dirrty was extremely controversial at the time, but it would be nothing now. I hope I paved the way and helped set the ground rules that women can be any version of themselves they wanna be, and proud of it.”

Shutterstock

For her work and the incredible music she makes, Aguilera has won five Grammy Awards and a number of other awards and recognition, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Alongside her music career, she starred in the film Burlesque, for which she wrote and sang the theme song, and was a coach on six seasons of the singing competition television series The Voice from 2011 to 2016.

Aguilera married music producer Jordan Bratman in 2005 and had her first child three years later. The couple, however, divorced in 2011 and she started dating her current fiancé and the father of her second child, Matthew Rutler, shortly after.

Shutterstock

In the past, Aguilera battled anxiety and she now speaks openly of those times and has a word of advice for anyone who is going through the same.

“Be kind to yourself,” she told L’Officiel Italia. “We are all walking on the path of inner research, it is our work as human beings and each one follows a different path, so it makes no sense to make comparisons, ‘Swim in your lane. If you waste time looking over your shoulder to see what others are doing, you lose sight of it,’ is the best advice I’ve ever been given.”

She hasn’t always been skinny, but she also says that she never weights herself because what really matters is to learn how to love yourself the way you are. However, she lost weight in 2013 after she started exercising but says she never follows strict diets.

“I happen to be very confident in my own skin. It takes time to get to that place. But, it’s all about embracing yourself and your body type,” the musician told Stylecraze.

We love that Aguilera always feels confident about herself no matter her weight. She is such an inspiration. Don’t you agree that she looks stunning at the age of 41?

Teacher secretly records coach touching girls hair and the mother speaks up after seeing the footage

Getting inside the classroom every day and trying to cope with all those students who have different personalities and learn using different strategies isn’t that easy. However, watching a shy student raising their hand and speaking in front of the whole class, or seeing a struggling student getting an ‘A’ makes you realize that it’s all worth it. It requires only special people to be teachers, because not everyone can rise to the task of shaping young minds into compassionate and responsible people who’d become a valuable part of the community.

The ideal teachers always go the extra mile just to make sure their students are doing their best to achieve the most they can. This help usually expands outside of the classroom too. And even if this effort may not be recognized by the parents, the school’s principal, or the community, that doesn’t really mater, because teachers know how great of an impact they make.

One physical education teacher from Valdosta, Georgia was giving his students a lesson in basketball when one of them, a girl named Kristin Paulk, approached and asked him whether he could do her a favor. The teacher said yes even before he knew what she would ask. The girl then said: “Can you tie my hair in a ponytail?” The teacher didn’t think twice before he knelt down and started doing her hair. Meanwhile, a fellow colleague named Kandice Anderson noticed the quite unusual sight and decided to put it on tape. She later posted the video on her Facebook page, writing:

“When your job goes beyond teaching… #CoachO #Love”

Kandice only wanted to show her friends what it really takes to be a teacher, and never did she think the video would be seen more than 3 million times. The phys ed teacher had no idea his kind act vent viral and he became famous. People found this way too adorable, and he was featured on Good Morning America.

“It was shocking to me that it got that much attention because we all do it.”

The teacher has three children on his own so he happens to know how to make a ponytail. He jokes how his expertise in hair styling stops there and if sweet Kristin wanted a more complex hairstyle she should have probably asked someone else to do it for her.

Kristin’s mother was also a guest at Good Morning America where she shared how she felt like after watching the video. She says she is more than happy knowing her girl has a teacher who cares so much.

We hope there are more teachers like this coach out there, who would do anything for their students’ well being.

This video is the sweetest thing you’ll see all day.

Kat Von D left ‘Miami Ink’ and became a loving mother and wife: Inside her family life

Expressive, emotional, rebellious, and with a strong sense of style, Kat Von D stole the hearts of millions when she was asked to fill in for tattoo artist Daren Brass on the TLC show Miami Ink back in 2005. Ever since, she became a much-loved TV personality who managed to establish an empire and make millions of dollars.

Born Katherine von Drachenberg on March 8, 1982, in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico, Kat got interested in punk music and dressing in black to the surprise of her mom and dad who were active Seventh-day Adventist Church missionaries. They, however, never interfered with her dreams and wishes, even when she decided to drop out of school and focus on tattooing at the age of 14.

When she turned 6, her family moved to America, and a decade later, she became American citizen. “I was six years old, and the seven hour drive that it took to reach the Texas border felt like weeks,” she recalled. “Even though I didn’t fully understand what big changes were ahead, I felt it. I think we all did.”

Speaking of her young years, she says she experienced physical, mental, and emotional mistreatment, but her parents weren’t aware of it and she never blamed them.

“I love my childhood, I think I had a great childhood. I think my parents made a huge mistake in sending me to a school, but that was under the guise that it was going to help me in a way that it didn’t. And again, I don’t think it’s their fault or anything,” she said.

Kat had her first tattoo, a small Misfits skull, at the age of 14, and soon after, she started doing tattoos on others with a homemade tattoo gun made from a guitar string alongside a motor made of a cassette player.

At the age of just 16, she opened her first tattoo shop and some time later, Kat moved to San Bernadino, Los Angeles where she started working at the Sin City Tattoo studio, under the guidance of artist Dave Smith who taught her everything about the job.

“I took my portfolio in and all of my drawings and said to the guy who ran the shop, ‘look, I know I’m under age but I really want to do this,’” Kat told Big Tattoo Planet.

“And he said, ‘I will take you on. I can see from your work that you are really good, and you can go somewhere with this.’ Dave taught me a lot about all aspects of tattooing, sterility, needles, and machines, things that I really had no clue about as I had missed out on the apprentice side of things.”

2005 was the year the entire country and most of the world learned of the charming girl of Miami Ink. Kat turned into a celebrity almost overnight.

“The network had wanted to add a female artist to the crew for some time, and Chris Garver, who owns the shop where I work now in LA, vouched for me, and that was pretty much it, I got on the show,” she explained.

“It’s really hard for me to be embarrassed, so being in front of the camera wasn’t too difficult, though at first, it was kind of annoying getting used to all of the behind-the-scenes stuff, the cameramen, the lighting crew. There’s so much going on that viewers obviously don’t see, and we have to get used to all of that. But no, it’s not a big deal to me and now I could tattoo with a million people around me watching, it doesn’t really matter.”

Some two years later, she got her spinoff, LA Ink, and rose to even greater fame.

At the start of her professional career, Kat tie the knot for the first time, but her marriage only lasted for four years. Then, in 2018, she married Rafael Reyes – also famous as Leafar Sayer, artist and known for creating the music genre Cholo goth.

Kat Von D spoke in the past that she could never see herself as a mother. She thought that being free-spirited to the extend she is didn’t go well with kids. “I’ve known since I was seven years old that I was never going to have kids. I just always imagined myself as this worldly, traveled gypsy lady. It’s not what I want, and I don’t want to put my body through it.”

However, life had different plans for this incredibly charming woman. In December 2018, she and her husband welcomed son Leafar Von D Reyes.

“Meet our beautiful baby boy,” she wrote at the time. “Thank you to all our beloved friends+family, fans+followers for your patience in us announcing his long-awaited arrival!”

After leaving her make-up empire, Kat truned to making music and performing. “To be honest, for the most part it’s been such positive response to the music that even I was surprised. I was expecting more negative criticism but that hasn’t been the case. Sometimes I will see people saying like, ‘oh you need to stay in your lane or stick with tattooing.’” Kat Von D told Euphoriazine of her music career.

88-year-old crossing guard killed by speeding car after saving two students

Just imagine what kind of person one has to be in order to risk their own life for the sake of that of others. Having a heart of gold, one might say. Or a kind soul and generous mind, others may add. Well, 88-year-old Bob Nill had it all, and even more than that.

This man used to work in banking and served in the Coast Guard, but once he retired, he just couldn’t stay still. He wanted to work again, so he got a job as a crossing guard at the Christ the King Parish School in Kansas City, Kansas some 5 years ago.

He was loved by all the students who all called him Mr. Bob.

Sadly, this incredibly loving man lost his life after he saved two children from being hit by a speeding black sedan. Witnesses say how he prevented the kids from getting on the car’s way and he ended up being hit by it himself.

“He stopped [two kids], and they listened, thank God, but then he, of course, was the victim,” school principal Cathy Fithian told KMBC 9.

Everyone who knew Bob would say he was an extraordinary man. His nephew, Randy, said how the family wasn’t surprised by Bob’s act, because he always cared for everyone.

“What my Uncle Bob did for just getting little kids across the street seemed probably trivial to some people, but for him, it was a really important job, and now, we really know how important it was. He maybe saved some lives.”

“This was something I think he felt like he could help children and help himself feel good about what he was doing,” Randy added.

The school released a statement paying tribute to Bob, who died as a hero.

“We would like to give you an update on our crossing guard, Mr. Nill. Our hearts are heavy as we inform you of his passing. Please continue to keep Mr. Nill and his family in your prayers as well as the students, parents, and teachers who witnessed today’s accident.

“Also know that Mr. Nill is a hero. He stopped two of our students from crossing the road as the car approached.”

Rest in peace.

The life and career of the Hollywood rebel Robert Mitchum – The much loved villain

The rebel of the Hollywood’s golden age, actor Robert Mitchum, was a man of many talents. Playing villain in most of his movies, combined with his disobedience and resistance to authority in his personal life, this acting legend was perceived by many as a tough guy, and is remembered as such even today, 23 years after his death.

Robert’s distinctive facial feature along with his incredible skills which weren’t limited to acting only, but directing, producing, and singing as well, made him one of the most famous names in the history of film. A man of considerable charm, Robert possessed the innate ability to make everyone love him.

Wikipedia Commons

Born in August, 1917, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to father James Thomas Mitchum who worked as a shipyard and railroad worker and a mother who immigrated to America from Norway, he was part of a traditional American working-class family. Sadly, when he was just 18 months old, his father died in an accident and his mother Ann Gunderson remarried to Major Hugh Cunningham Morris, a British officer.

Robert was a mischievous child who couldn’t be controlled easily. After being expelled from a number of schools, his mother decided to sent him to Delaware to live with his grandparents.

That didn’t calm his rebellious soul and he continued to end up in troubles throughout his teenage years. One time, according to Robert himself, he was detained for vagrancy and forced to work in a chain gang from where he escaped and returned to Delaware. The good thing that came from his stay with his grandparents is that he met their first neighbor Dorothy there. The two fell in love, got married, and strayed together their whole lives.

It was in Long Beach, California, in 1936, four years before he tied the knot, that Robert had his first encounter with acting. His sister Julie, who lived there, persuaded him to join the local theater guild. He took some minor roles, but once his children were born he decided to turn to a 9-to-5 job in order to be able to provide for the family.

During WWII, Robert worked as a machine operator for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, but the loud sounds from the machines affected his hearing and he suffered temporary blindness, so he quit and turned to acting again. It was probably the best decision he has ever made.

Mitchum with his sons (1946)

In 1945, Robert had his major breakthrough playing soldier in the war film The Story of G.I. Joe for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for best supporting role. This, however, didn’t result in him getting parts in typical conventional Hollywood dramas. Instead, he became the “soul” of low-budget crime dramas, later known as films noirs.

What was truly special about this man with troubled soul was that he excelled each and every role perfectly. His sleepy, “lizard,” eyes only added to his charm.

Mitchum in Out of the Past (1947)

One of his most memorable performances is that of the charlatan preacher in the thriller The Night of the Hunter, which is considered until this day one of the greatest films in Hollywood history.

“I wanted to take it all the way,” he said. “I wanted to scare people to death. The book did that. It was ten times as frightening as the picture. But Charles had such good taste. He kept saying, ‘I make my living reading the Bible. I can’t do this sort of thing.’ As it was, it was pretty good… I guess.”

Robert Mitchum playing Reverend Harry Powell in The Night of the Hunter

Robert’s personal life was surrounded by many scandals. In 1948, he was arrested for possession of marijuana. He spent 43 days at a prison farm in California. He didn’t see it as a big deal like Hollywood and the press because he always spoke how he was a passionate user. ”The only effect that I ever noticed from smoking marijuana was a sort of mild sedative, a release of tension when I was overworking. It never made me boisterous of quarrelsome. If anything, it calmed me and reduced my activity,” Mitchum later explained.

This scandal, however, only made him more famous and more wanted as his name was all over the magazines.

Dorothy and Robert Mitchum (1955)

Robert was particularly praised for his incredible portrayals of the sympathetic marine in Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957), the Australian sheep drover in The Sundowners (1960), the convict in Cape Fear (1962), detective Philip Marlowe in Farewell, My Lovely (1975), and more.

In 1955, during the filming of Bloody Alley, Robert caused a scene by breaking the set because his car wasn’t ready. He was fired and producer John Wayne took the role.

Mitchum with Jane Russell in His Kind of Woman (1951)

Although he spoke of his profession as an opportunity to visit places and new people and believed to be an actor in Hollywood was a privilege, saying, “I didn’t make what these young guys, the Spielbergs, are making. But I had a hell of a lot of fun. Working with all the great leading ladies of my day. Marilyn Monroe, and Jane Greer. I think she was the most underrated of them all. Working with guys like John Huston and Raoul Walsh,” he also said many times that moves bored him.

During the filming of Ryan’s Daughter in 1970, he had suicidal thoughts, but his friend, screenwriter Robert Bolt, talked him out of it.

Robert passed away in 1997, at the age of 80 in Santa Barbara, California. He had lung cancer.

This actor, who was one of a kind, created an image for himself as an irresistible man who could excel any role. He truly marked an era in the history of film.

Zoo refuses to euthanize Jaguar after it attacks a woman who was breaking the rules

What some individuals are ready to do all for the sake of taking an appealing selfie for their Facebook profile picture can only be described as outrageous.

One woman was attacked by a jaguar at the Wildlife World Zoo in Arizona after she climbed the animal’s cage in order to take a picture with it. Shawn Gilleland, the Rural Metro Fire Department spokesman told The Washington Post how the lady who was in her 30’s shocked the zoo visitors as she tried getting over the barrier. Getting so close to a caged wild animal speaks disaster, and that’s exactly what happened. The jaguar reached out and grabbed the woman’s arm with her strong paws causing a laceration.

Luckily, the wounds she got weren’t life-threatening and she was lucky that her silly action didn’t result in more severe consequences.

Zoo’s officials say how the animal wasn’t outside the enclosure at any time, which means non of this would have taken place if the injured woman wouldn’t approach that close.

“Please understand why barriers are put in place,” officials tweeted. “Sending prayers to the family tonight.”

Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park

Visitors who happened to witness the incident say how they heard the woman screaming and that’s when people ran to help her. One of them, Adam Wilkerson, told AZFamily.com:

“My mom runs up and takes her water bottle and shoves it through the cage near where the jaguar is, and the jaguar goes to let go of the girl to take the water bottle, and the claw just catches this girl’s sweater,” he told the news organization. “So at that point, I see that it’s no longer attached to the girl’s actual arm, only on her sweater, so I grab the girl on her torso, and I pull her back.”

The zoo owner, Mickey Ollson, says how a similar incident involving the same jaguar took place a year back when another visitor tried climbing the barrier.

“There’s no way to fix people crossing barriers,” Ollson told the news organization. “That happens occasionally. And we put substantial barriers there, and if people cross them, they can get in trouble.”

People should already be aware of the fact that jaguars are hunters who would grab every chance to get themselves a pray and they still decide to get way too close to them.

In another incident that happened at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, a jaguar managed to get out of its enclosure which resulted in nine zoo animals being killed, five alpacas, three foxes, and an emu.

The Post reported at the time:

Jaguars are opportunistic hunters that prey on more than 85 species, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Their habitat ranges from the jungles of Central and South America, where they are considered “near threatened” by the IUCN, to the southern regions of Arizona and New Mexico, where they are listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Lions and tigers are the only big cats that are bigger than jaguars, making the felines the biggest in the Americas.

According to the president of the Humane Society of U.S, zoos should take extra precautions in assuring the visitors would stay protected and animals are respected from a safe distance. An idea they propose is adding more barriers.

We really can’t understand how people would even come with such ideas as climbing over barriers and expect from the animals to stay still and pose for selfies.

Ollson told AZFamily.com they are willing to put some more barriers but people are the ones who should get educated on how to behave while at the zoo.

“She’s a wild animal and there were proper barriers in place to keep our guests safe,” the zoo tweeted. “Not a wild animal’s fault when barriers are crossed.”

Senior Moves Into Holiday Inn Instead Of Nursing Home

Meet Terry Robinson – the man who might change people’s view on nursing homes for elderly people. His idea posted on his own Facebook page may start people thinking really seriously about the options for the later days of their lives.

The reason for his post is very simple – the amount that we have to pay if we want to spend our older years in a one of the facilities that provide nursing. The ideas he proposes are indeed interesting.

Robinson’s analysis states that nursing home care costs are some $188 per day. That’s an amount of money that is very high, according to him. Therefore, he proposes that it is more economical to spend your later days in Holiday Inn instead. He says:

“No nursing home for us. We’ll be checking into a Holiday Inn! With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188.00 per day, there is a better way when we get old and too feeble. I’ve already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it’s $59.23 per night. Breakfast is included, and some have happy hours in the afternoon.”

Robinson does not stop there. His post goes into details. After he has done the careful analysis, he adds that he has decided. He is going to check in Holiday Inn permanently! His calculations show that if you choose the hotel version, you save quite a lot of money.

Robinson explains:

“That leaves $128.77 a day for lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a spa, swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge and washer-dryer, etc.”

This clever man pays attention to all details in his post. His justification of choosing the hotel version includes transportation costs. He explains that there are some benefits when you stay in a hotel. First of all he enlists the hotel-provided transport, then he moves on to the public transport and at last he mentions even the airport shuffle. Regarding the last one, he says:

“For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you’re at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up. “

Since Robinson is not a fan of the nursing houses, he goes on by enlisting some of the disadvantages of such places. He states:

“It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today. And you’re not stuck in one place forever — you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have Holiday Inn there too.”

Moving from places to places actually is quite interesting idea after all, at least for those who find travelling amusing.

Did you think he forgot the crucial part? The one about the healthcare itself? Then, you are mistaken. He thought about that too. Robinson says that Medicare serves the purpose. Because the regulations for visitors in the hotels cannot even be compared with those in the nursing houses, Robinson explains that in Holiday Inn you will never be alone and there will always be someone to check on you, family member or a friend.

Parents abandon their 3-day-old child, leaving her a note suggesting they meet in 20 years time

Leaving a child behind has to be the greatest heartbreak a parent can ever experience. Unfortunately, due to the law imposed by the Chinese government that no family could have more than just a one child, implemented between 1980 and 2015, many parents were forced to abandon their little ones. The country was tying to fight the poverty and overpopulation, so if a woman who already had a child got pregnant with another one, the family either faced abortion or heavy financial penalties.

When a couple, Qian Fenxiang and Xu Lida, learned they were expecting a second child, they were perfectly aware they couldn’t have it. But as they didn’t want to abort their little baby, they hid the pregnancy and Qian gave birth to her second daughter on a houseboat, away from the eyes of everyone.

Once the sweet baby was welcomed into the world, the devastated parents took her and left her at a covered vegetable market along with a hand-written note.

The note said: “Our daughter, Jingzhi, was born at 10am on the 24th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, 1995. We have been forced by poverty and affairs of the world to abandon her. Oh, pity the hearts of fathers and mothers far and near!
Thank you for saving our little daughter and taking her into your care. If the heavens have feelings, if we are brought together by fate, then let us meet again on the Broken Bridge in Hangzhou on the morning of the Qixi Festival in 10 or 20 years from now.”

The girl, now named Kati, was adopted by a loving family from Michigan, the Pohler family, who already had two boys. Kati has been loved and cared for, she was extremely lucky to end up with such special people.

They knew their adoptive daughter’s parents wanted to meet her in ten or twenty years time, so 10 years after she became part of their family, the Pohler’s sent a friend of theirs to meet with Kati’s biological parents.

“We didn’t want to involve Kati in something as vague as this,” her dad said.. “But it was important to us that the birth parents knew their daughter was adopted by a family who love her very much and provide her with a good home.”

Unfortunately, the friend arrived around 10 minutes after Qian and Xu left. They spent quite some time hoping to meet their long-lost girl on that bridge and even held a sign with her name written on it. But when they realized she wasn’t coming, they went home.

The story was picked up by a local news outlet that helped Qian and Xu got in touch with their daughter’s new family.

When Kati turned 20, her mom and dad told her the story of her birth. They also told her that they were in touch with her biological parents and gave her their blessing to go and meet them. She was eager to do that, especially because she knew they were simply forced to abandon her against their will.

In the city where she was born, on the broken bridge on the eve of the Qixi festival in 2017, she finally met her birth parents.

“We couldn’t communicate meaningfully since we don’t speak English and she doesn’t speak Mandarin, but we could tell she’s a really nice girl. But now that we have met her, we miss her even more than before,” her birth mother Qian said.

Kati also met her older sister. “It was really nice to see them. I was surprised by how emotional my Chinese mom was. The first thing they said was, ‘You are skinny, you’ve got to eat more.’ If I didn’t eat they would feed me. I guess they were just super-excited and missed looking after me for all these years,” this young woman said.

We are so very sorry for all those families who were forced to part ways with their children and never saw them again. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with Kati’s biological parents. Although it took two decades to see each other again, we are glad they were given that incredible opportunity.
