Kayakers discover 10-year-old dog who went missing on July 4 because of the fireworks

4th of July commemorates the Declaration of Independence of the United States which was signed on that day back in 1775. It is a very special day for every American out there and is celebrated with parades, concerts, barbecues, family gatherings, and fireworks. However, no matter how much we enjoy this occasion, we often forget the impact fireworks can have on animals.

When they hear the loud noise, animals, especially dogs, get scared because they feel threatened. As a result, more of them tend to hide, or they either run away.

Sadly, that was the case with one family dog named Ethyl who was terrified by the fireworks on this 4th of July and ran away from home. The thing is that she had never left the house alone before, so her owners were worrying for her safety.

Days later, a woman named Shakira Sias, her brother, and her sister-in-law were hesitating whether to go kayaking. Eventually, they decided to take the trip to the lake, and that decision turned life-saving. As they were enjoying the day, they noticed a trembling dog. “Thankfully, we did because not even 20 minutes into our trip there was a brush pile and I had just looked up and into the river bank and I had seen a white outline and it was Ethyl’s face,” Sias told KYOU News.

In an attempt to get to the visibly dehydrated 10-year-old boxer, Sias’ sister in-law, Jessica Rose, and her husband fought against the current.

Ethyl also had a limb and everyone was aware that if hadn’t been for them, the poor creature would have probably starved to death. Luckily, that didn’t happen as the rescue mission was a huge success.

“If she had tried to get down further to get a drink from the river she would not have been able to get back up. She would’ve been swept away in the brush pile and drowned,” Sias said.

After four hours of floating, Rose was able to get out of the kayak with Ethyl. Luckily, the dog had a collar so they were able to track the owners easily.

Ethyl’s parents were over the moon when they saw their loving pet. She was found around five miles from home, on the bank of Iowa’s Chariton River.

Speaking to KYOU, Ethyl’s mom, Kim Hindley, said: “Sunday night is when we got home and she was gone and we went looking all over for her yelling until about 2 AM in the morning and she didn’t come back, so I knew she went further than up the hill.”

Ethyl is now doing fine and her parents say they will make sure they keep a close eye on her in case of fireworks.

The TikTok video of Ethyl’s rescue went viral in no time and everyone praised these incredible people for saving her life. You can take a look at it below.

Pregnant mom diagnosed with worrying condition gives birth to “angry” baby

Hollie Walls was already a mother of two when she remarried. So, she and her husband were eager to expand the family with another member and hoped to have a baby. However, they both knew that could take a lot of time and energy as doctors told them the chances of Hollie conceiving naturally were slim.

But then, something incredible happened. Despite she had undergone two surgeries where a massive mass was removed from her uterus, Hollie was pregnant. When the pregnancy test showed two lines she was certain she either did something wrong or the test was faulty.

“I didn’t even want to tell my husband at first because I was sure it would just be another disappointment and we had been through too many of those,” Hollie said, sharing her story with Love What Matters.

But Hollie was pregnant, and her pregnancy was perfect. All the ultrasounds showed her baby was developing just great and that there was nothing she should be worried about.

When she was 41 weeks pregnant she went to her final OB visit to schedule induction because as it looked, her baby wasn’t going to get out on her own. The OB made a quick ultrasound and Hollie noticed their face somehow changed. Her mother instinct told her something was wrong although everyone assured her everything was going to be just fine.

Moments later, she was told she had Oligohydramnios, a condition characterized by a deficiency of amniotic fluid and was rushed to the hospital. There, doctors ran a bunch of tests and did another ultrasound which showed the levels of amniotic fluid were low but they did locate some fluid pockets. It was Friday, and Hollie was scheduled for induction the following Monday.

However, on Sunday morning, Hollie noticed the baby didn’t move as frequently as before and could sense things weren’t right. “To this day I can’t explain it. I put it down to mother’s intuition. I just knew I had to go to the hospital urgently. I called my doula and she said she would meet me there within the hour. I wanted to be excited about meeting my baby but I was so worried,” Hollie said.

Once at the hospital, doctors noticed the baby’s heart rate was dropping and then accelerating and it had to be delivered via an emergency c-section. “I had people working frantically to try and get an IV line in me, I had other people trying to get me in to a position to get her heart rate to stabilize, I had someone else bringing me paperwork to sign,” Hollie recalls.

This scared mom-to-be feared for her baby’s life and prayed for her to be delivered healthy after doctors told her those heart rates could cause for the little one to be born brain dead.

Luckily, everything turned for the best, and moments later, baby Winter Josephine was welcomed into the world. This sweet baby was perfectly healthy. However, what caught everyone’s attention was the “angry” face the baby had. “Once we got out of recovery and back to our hospital room, I just held Winter in front of me and stared at her. As perfect as she was, I couldn’t help but laugh because she looked so angry,” Hollie said.

Hollie joked how her daughter’s grumpy expression was her way of saying, “why did you get me out of there, I was great in my mommy’s tummy.”

Little Winter Josephine had her first photoshoot and her photos are just amazing. A photographer who took them would also take photos of angel babies at hospitals. He told Hollie how many of those babies actually die because of oligohydramnios and it made her realize that she was extremely lucky that her baby survived.

We are sorry Hollie had to go through such stressful event, but at the same time we are very happy everything turned well at the end. As for baby Winter Josephine, she is one of the cutest and bravest babies, and her “angry” face only makes her even more adorable, don’t you agree?

Family dog gives his own life to shield baby trapped inside a burning home

It is very often that we hear of stories in which dogs sacrifice their lives for the sake of those of their humans. Polo is just one of the hero canines who wasn’t afraid to die if that meant saving his 8-month-old baby sister.

Erika Poremski from Baltimore, Maryland, only stepped out of her home for a minute when she noticed the house got caught in fire. The flames started spreading uncontrollably as she was helplessly watching and waiting for the firefighters to arrive. Her baby girl and the family dog, Polo, were trapped inside. This desperate mother feared the worse, but there was nothing she could do.

Luckily, help arrived in no time and they were able to extinguish the flames. Inside the bedroom, they stumbled upon the most incredible sight. Pogo, who sadly lost his life, was laying on baby Viviana’s body, trying to protect her. He could have easily saved himself by getting out through the door, but instead, he opted to stay and save his tiny human.

Thanks to Polo, Viviana only suffered burns on both sides of her body. If it hadn’t been for the heroic animal, she would have probably died.

The family lost everything in the fire; their home, all of their belongings, and the dog they all loved so very much. However, they are forever grateful to Polo for saving their daughter’s life.

Rest in peace, Polo, you died a hero!

William didn’t want Meghan to attend Princess Diana statue unveiling, royal experts claim

Not only Britons, but basically people from all around the world were happy and relieved when they saw Harry and William walking shoulder to shoulder for the unveiling of their late mother’s statue. The statue was ordered by the brothers back in 2017 and depicts Princess Diana’s character and her involvement with charity. It was placed on the grounds of the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on July 1.

“The figure of Diana, Princess of Wales is surrounded by three children who represent the universality and generational impact of The Princess’ work,” Kensington Palace said in a statement about the statue.

“The portrait and style of dress was based on the final period of her life as she gained confidence in her role as an ambassador for humanitarian causes and aims to convey her character and compassion.”

The brothers didn’t give speeches at the end of the ceremony but released a joined statement which read: “Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” they said.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

According to Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, the brothers opted for a statement instead of speeches because they wanted to stay out of the spotlight on the big day.

Meghan Markle wasn’t in attendance at the unveiling of the statue because she gave birth to her daughter Lilibet Diana and was advised not to travel. However, royal experts claim that it was William who didn’t want her there having in mind the accusations she raised against the Royal Family during the infamous Oprah interview.

Royal expert Charlotte Griffith said: “This was not the right time to bring Meghan in because there is so much tension between William and Meghan particularly. In another world, you can imagine Meghan really looking forward to this visit.

“Her daughter’s middle name is Diana and it’s quite good for ‘brand Markle.’ But how could she actually face up to it after everything that has happened?”

Shutterstock

When they first met, William was very fond of Meghan, although she believed at the time that the relationship between the two would be “trying” from the off, according to Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, authors of the Pro-Sussex biography Finding Freedom.

“She was self-aware enough to understand that the brothers were wary of women who were more interested in their titles than their wellbeing,” Scobie and Durand wrote in the book. “And she couldn’t have come from a more different world than that of William, his wife, and most of their friends.”

However, the first-ever encounter between William and Meghan was quite pleasant for both of them. William was reported to have said to his brother’s girlfriend: “I was looking forward to meeting the girl who has put that silly grin on my brother’s face.”

Shutterstock

At the same time, William was concerned that the things between Harry and Meghan were moving too fast. “William soon began to wonder about some of Meghan’s traits and motivations,” a source told the Daily Mail, as revealed by the Express.

“He was worried that at times she seemed to be more concerned about her personal progression or profile over the wider goals and aims of the Royal Family.”

Eventually, he decided to keep those feeling for himself because all he ever wanted was for “[Meghan] to be happy and appreciated the huge adjustment of entering the Royal Family.”

After everything that happened between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family, we are glad William and Harry got the opportunity to speak at the ceremony of the statue unveiling and probably mend their broken relationship.

Little girl dies days after eating a tiny battery – family warns other parents of the dangers

Life is full of surprises, and sadly, we never known when a tragedy could struck. For the family of sweet Brianna Florer, that Christmas was the last holiday they got to spend around her company, because a day after the celebration took place, Brianna died.

No one was prepared for such horrific thing as the death of such young lady.

Her grandpa, Kent Vice recalls the day when his granddaughter swallowed the tiny battery which lead to her passing. What was supposed to be one of the best days of their life turned into a nigthmare.

“On Saturday she was fine,” Vice said. “It was a perfect Christmas.”

No one in the family was aware that Brianna had the battery in her body until she started throwing up blood. This scared the parents and they looked for a doctor to check on her, but where they live, Delaware County, there aren’t many medical professionals.

Brian and Stephanie Florer called the Jay ambulance which met them at a convenience store to check the girl’s condition. But it wasn’t until little Briana threw up “a massive amount of blood” that they took her to the hospital at the nearest town of Grove, Oklahoma.

There, they were told how the battery was in Brianna’s system for a few days.

Doctors tried to take her to another facility in Tulsa but the weather was really bad and no medical helicopters were available so Brianna was instead rushed into surgery.

Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for her life to be saved.

“They operated on her for 2½ hours, but they couldn’t stop the bleeding,” Vice said. “They believed the battery ate through to her carotid artery by way of her esophagus.”

If swallowed, batteries can do extensive damage to the body and even lead to death such in Brianna’s case.

According to The National Capitol Poison Center in Washington D.C, between 2005 and 2014 there were 11, 940 incidents of children swallowing batteries 15 of which were fatal.

“…if the battery lodges in the esophagus or digestive tract, it can open and release an alkaline substance that can cause corrosive or burning injuries,” says Randy Badillo of the Oklahoma Poison Control Center.

In cases where lithium button batteries are inside the system, they craete electrical currents which damage the body by creating chemical reaction that produces hydroxide.

Briana’s family is sharing the girls story in hopes of preventing anything similar from happening to other children.

They ask from parents to keep the batteries away from the reach of young kids.

We as parents should be extra cautious and keep a close eye on everything our little ones do. Batteries can be found in many household gadgets where they come easy accessible to the children.

Below is a video that shows the dangers of swallowing batteries. Make sure you watch it and share it with friends.

Mom is outraged after doctors apologize for her daughter having Down Syndrome

Nicola and Todd Bailey from Sheffield, England, were eagerly waiting for their twin daughters to be welcomed into the world. Their son, Lucas, was as excited to meet his sisters.

Then, just 30 weeks into the pregnancy, Nicola was taken to the hospital and had a c-section. The moment they all have been waiting for has finally arrived.

Shutterstock

She was feeling fine and doctors told them their babies, Harper and Quinn, were born perfectly healthy, which was a huge relief considering they were born prematurely.

But then, around an hour later, doctors entered into Nicole’s room and looked all puzzled. Starting their speech by saying “I’m sorry,” they informed the parents that the firstborn, Harper, had Down Syndrome.

Shutterstock

Down Syndrome represents a genetic condition caused by a chromosomal disorder which affects the person’s development, and sometimes, their intellectual ability. These people share similar facial features which result in bulging tongue, eyes that slant upwards, and atypically shaped ears among the rest. However, despite all this, people with Down Syndrome can do everything other people can. The sad reality is that they are often stigmatized and stared at, although the perception about them seems to be changing over the years.

Besides having Down Syndrome, Harper experienced other health issues as well. She had two small holes in her heart, one of which closed by itself and the other one required surgery.

Shutterstock

Once home, Nicola and Todd couldn’t stop thinking about the way doctors delivered the news about Harper to them. Why did they feel the need to apologize for the girl’s condition? The Bailey’s hated the fact that the doctors felt bad about their daughter’s diagnosis, because according to them, Harper is as happy and as vibrant as any other child her age.

In order to try change the perception about people with Down Syndrome, Nicola decided to share her life raising the girls by posting on the social media. She couldn’t put up with people whose first words were “I’m sorry” when they met Harper for the first time because there is nothing to be sorry about.

Shutterstock

People need to accept that it’s okay for someone to be born different and Down Syndrome isn’t a diagnosis anyone, especially doctors, need to apologize for.

7 amazing animal rescue stories involving children

Children and animals make the best of friends. Growing up around a creature, usually a four-legged one, can be great for children. That way, they have a pal by their side and learn how to be responsible from early age.

Below are seven incredible rescue stories in which the heroes who saved the day are young kids.

1. The volunteers at the South Charlotte Dog Rescue in North Carolina were struggling to get to a litter of puppies who somehow got stuck inside an underground drainage ditch. The time was running out and everyone was worried for the outcome and was praying for the little ones’ safety.

Source: Facebook/Danielle Spuler

Then, out the blue, a nine-year-old boy named Rafe Spuler came across the rescue mission and offered to help. In no time, the little boy started crawling inside the tunnel and was able to pull out the puppies to safety one by one. They were taken back to their mom and the entire family was placed in foster care.

2. Animal advocates are those people who do all in their power to be the voice of the voiceless. They stand for the rights of animals of every kind and are changing lives every single day.

One of the youngest animal lovers and advocates that we know of is 6-year-old Zach Ford. Despite his age, this incredible boy is helping the most vulnerable creatures. Some time ago, Zach learned the sad fact that a number of species from around the world are endangered. Unlike many adults, he decided to do something about that. His first mission was to raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund and help save the tigers. Believe it or not, with the help of his family and his parents, he raised $150.

Currently, Zach is involved in raising money for the Bornean orangutan and the Sumatran orangutan, both critically endangered species. Way to go, young man!

3. Most young children enjoy spending time at zoos and animal sanctuaries because they get to meet different species whom they have previously seen only in books and movies.

Well, 3-year-old Ollie Augustus is not one of them. His parents were eager to take him to the Healesville Sanctuary in Australia, but the day didn’t go as planned. Instead of getting excited for meeting the animals, Ollie got really concerned for them. He dubbed the staff working at the sanctuary “not nice people” and explained that all those animals “just want to be free.”

What a clever boy.

4. 6-year-old Mia Rabii was taking a walk with her mom when they noticed a group of people gathered around a duck. It turned out that this poor mamma’s ducklings fell into a drainage pipe. The people tried pulling the babies out, but the pipe was way too narrow for them to be able to fit their hands inside.

Luckily, Mia’s hands fit just perfectly. In no time, this brave young lady pulled each of the ducklings out and everyone was very thankful to her, especially the worried mommy duck.

5. India is a country with a lot of stray animals. And as we all know, the life on the streets is an everyday struggle for these creatures. They are left all by themselves and are forces to look for food and shelter every single day.

And as not many people are interested in solving the problem, a 9-year-old boy named Neal Batra, from Gurgaon, India, decided to take matters in his own hands.

Source: Hindustan Times

In order to be able to buy food for the homeless dogs, Neal is selling his comic books. So far, he has sold around 60 of them, including Archie, Jungle Book and Pokemon, and has raised around $30 dollars.

In the future, Neal is planning on baking and selling cookies in order to be able to raise money for the dogs.

6. The Polar Bear Walk to School Day then 7-year-old Sean Hutton did caught the attention of many media outlets and even the World Wildlife Fund. He wanted to raise awareness about the polar bears and nailed it. Over the years, more than 500 students joined Sean for the annual Polar Bear Walk to School Day.

Source: WWF Canada

We are very proud of Neal for trying to make a change.

7. One man snapped the most incredible photo of his 11-year-old neighbor and a blind deer taking a walk towards the grass patches together. As it turned out, the boy made friends with the animal and helped him find its path to food before he would go to school.

Although the man believed this was one of the most incredible bonds between a human and a wild animal, he had to call an animal rescue group. They came for the deer and took it to a wildlife preserve.

The photo gathered the attention of a huge number of people.

Mother who has a backpack leash for her adopted son has a message for those who shame her parenting

Those people who still don’t have children on their own are easy to judge others for their parenting. The truth is that we can never really know what moms and dads out there experience when it comes to their kids.

One mother opens up about her struggles with her adopted child whose parents were drug addicts, and as a result, he was born with an addiction himself. Other than that horrific fact, Rachel Butcher doesn’t know much about her boy’s biological parents. She has no idea whether there were any genetic illnesses running in the family or if there were any other super energetic children related to her son. What she knows is that she loves her boy endlessly and that she has to find ways to cope with his hyperactivity.

In a Facebook post, Rachel wrote that she used to run a lot, but now, due to the scar tissue from her hysterectomy, she can’t walk fast or run, and that is one of the reasons why she has a backpack leash on her son who throws tantrums very often.

Now, she wants to send a message to all those people who stare at her and judge her whenever she is at the store or outside for a walk.

Source: Facebook/ Rachel Butcher

“10 years ago, walking around Disney World, I laughed and cringed at the sight of children on leashes. ‘How can they not control their child?, I’ll never let my child behave that way,'” Rachel wrote. “Yes, I was ‘Karen’ then, but, lets be real, every parent has said that line once or twice BEFORE they had children and ate crow years later.”

She only decided to open up about the situation after a recent visit to Target. After a lot of stares and nasty comments, she decided to leave the store with tears in her eyes and asking herself why so many women feel the need to mom shame so often.

She ended her post writing: “My child isn’t talking yet and we have a communication barrier. He attends occupational and speech therapy and he is THRIVING. He is such a happy, beautiful little boy with A LOT of energy.

“I’m not writing this for pity or sympathy, but more of a public service announcement to kids with leashes. My son does not have a disability, he is a runner. My neighbors know he is a runner, so much so that they chase after him too.

“It takes a village to raise a kid and my village rocks.”

Source: Facebook/ Rachel Butcher

Rachel’s story is truly eye-opening. Whenever we see a child having a meltdown at a public place, we shouldn’t be quick to pass judgments but remember that every family is facing their own struggles and battling their own battles.
