The political career of JD Vance is an astounding one, to say the least. However, before he got into politics, he first rose to fame with his memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis in 2016.

Before becoming the Vice President of the US, he served in the military and had a short stint as a venture capitalist.

However, his life hasn’t always been an easy one. On the contrary, he experienced hardship from the moment his parents divorced and his mother started expressing violent tendencies.

Luckily, he had his half-sister, Lindsay by his side.

Following an incident during which their mother threatened to crash their car and kill both her children, Vance and his sister got adopted by their grandparents.

When Lindsay started her own family and moved, it was extremely hard for Vance, but he never blamed her, because she was still his support.

Eventually, he started hanging out with the wrong people who were involved with using drugs, but it was his grandmother who talked some sense into him. Vance said it was a moment he’d never forget.

“She actually told me in a very menacing voice, ‘Look, JD, I’ll give you a choice. You can either stop hanging out with these kids, or I’ll run them over with my car. And trust me, no one will ever find out,’” Vance told NPR.

After graduating from Middletown High School in 2003, Vance spent four years in the Marine Corps, serving as a combat correspondent in Iraq in 2005.

Retired Maj. Shawn Haney, JD Vance’s officer in charge at Cherry Point, North Carolina, told CNN that he and the rest of the marines knew Vance “would run for office one day.”

“He always did a great job where he was, but always looked forward to the next thing.”

Recalling the four years with the Marine Corps, Vance wrote in his memoir, “When I joined the Marine Corps, I did so in part because I wasn’t ready for adulthood. I didn’t know how to balance a checkbook, much less how to complete the financial aid forms for college.”

He added: “It was the Marine Corps that first gave me an opportunity to truly fail, made me take that opportunity, and then, when I did fail, gave me another chance anyway.”

Once back to the Marine Corps Airfield in Cherry Point, North Carolina, Vance got the opportunity to become a media relations officer, considered the “holy grail” of Marine Corps public affairs with the “biggest audience and the highest stakes.”

In 2009, Vance graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from the Ohio University. Showing immense talent and hard-work, he then attended Yale Law School, where he graduated with a law degree in 2013.

Today, JD Vance is the vice president of the country.

At the start of his term, he experienced minor health issues.

Vance underwent a “long-planned” minor surgery after appearing at the Capitol earlier in the day for the Senate’s swearing-in ceremony.

“The Vice President-elect is having long-planned, minor sinus surgery and will be back at work tomorrow,” his spokesperson William Martin told Fox News.

The surgery took place at George Washington University Hospital.

Vance resumed hi duties just 24 hours later.

He is the youngest vice president since Nixon.

Pressure mounts to strip Harry and Meghan of royal titles following explosive interview

Prince Harry lost his case in the Court of Appeal seeking the return of his police protection. In the past, he claimed the lack of protection is the reason why his wife and children aren’t visiting Britain, dubbing such trips unsafe.

After the ruling, he took part in an interview with the BBC during which he complained that his father “won’t speak to me” and that he was the victim of an “Establishment stitch-up,” the Daily Mail reported.

Further, Harry accused the Royal Household of interfering in his battle to have his UK police security reinstated and expressed shock upon discovering that two senior members of the Royal Household are on that committee.

He asked the Home Secretary to investigate the influence the Royal family and Ravec had on the outcome of his case.

Government spokesman told The Mail on Sunday: “All members work together to advise the independent chair on the protective security of the Royal Family and key public figures.

“As part of long-standing arrangements these decisions have been taken by Ravec, not the Home Secretary.”

Harry’s accusations sparked outrage among the public, who called on King Charles to strip his younger son and his wife of their royal titles.

Palace insiders say Harry’s remarks about his father’s health, including the claim that “he doesn’t know how much longer he has left,” were a step too far and that it may deepen the rift.

Officials “railed against” the BBC for not challenging the Duke’s “outrageous claims,” royal insiders said, which led to the British broadcasting service to admit to a “lapse” in editorial standards over its coverage of the interview.

“Claims were repeated that the process had been ‘an Establishment stitch-up’ and we failed to properly challenge this and other allegations,” they said in a statement.

“This case is ultimately the responsibility of the Home Office and we should have reflected their statement.”

A poll by Mail on Sunday revealed the public siding more with King Charles than with his younger son.

Among those who want the King to strip the Sussexes’ of their royal titles is Pierce Morgan. He posted on X, “The King must strip Harry and Meghan of their titles asap. They are never going to stop attacking him, the Monarchy, and the Royal Family—all while simultaneously enriching themselves from their royal status. It’s despicable.”

His post continued, “He trashed his family as Prince Philip was dying.. he trashed his family as The Queen was dying … and now he’s trashing his family as both his father and sister-in-law [Kate] have been battling cancer. Is there a more contemptible public figure in the world than Prince Harry?”

During the funeral, a crow lands on the little girl’s coffin

The air felt unusually cold and bitter that morning as mourners gathered inside the church for the funeral of sweet Emily, a six-year-old girl who left the world too soon.

Her heartbroken parents stood by their daughter’s coffin, holding hands and wondering how they would continue their lives with their little girl by their side.

Emily was loved by everyone who has ever met her. She was kind and always cheerful. Her passing didn’t only affect her family but the entire community.

Those who came to the church to pay their respects sat quietly as the priest began the service. His voice shook while he was reading the prayers.

And then, something strange happened.

A crow, dark and huge, entered the church amid the funeral service and landed on the girl’s coffin.

The bird, whose eyes were unusually shiny, sat still while the mourners looked at it in disbelief. “A crow inside the church,” they murmured.

Some whispered that the bird got there by accident, but they all knew deep down that there was more to it.

At one moment, the crow placed its head on the coffin as though it bowed in respect for the life lost.

Eventually, all of the whispers faded and everyone watched at the crow silently.

After a while, the crow lifted its head, opened its wings, and flew off without making a single sound as it disappeared into the sky.

The elderly people who witnessed the unusual sight spoke of old beliefs that crows were connected to the spirit world. They were messengers for souls who passed away. At that moment, it felt like those stories and beliefs were true.

Emily’s mother, unable to contain her tears from rolling down her face, turned to her husband and said, “This was her way to say goodbye.”

The presence of the crow at their daughter’s funeral was the closure the heartbroken parents needed. It was a sign that their daughter was watching over them from a place of peace.

Husband takes own life day after ‘perfect’ honeymoon

Isabel Coles of Southern Pines, North Carolina, shared her devastation after her husband takes his own life a day after their perfect honeymoon at a beach-front music festival in New Jersey.

The two tied the knot in September of last year, a year and a half after they met through a dating app and started a relationship.

After flying back from their honeymoon, Isabel’s husband, Christopher, who was in the military, was updating the guest lists for the big ceremony they had planned to take place in May.

In the morning, however, he left the house and headed towards the woods, and despite Isabel’s attempts to stop him, he wouldn’t listen. Shortly after, she realized he had taken his handgun with him.

She alerted his parents who flew from Georgia to help her look for him.

Sadly, his lifeless body was found the following morning, September 18, by his father.

Isabel was left wondering if there were any signs that she missed, noting that Christopher was “very driven and motivated.”

“I was shocked, I was devastated. He was great during our honeymoon, we had a great time,” she said.

“[Christopher] was very hard on himself, always pushing himself. There were no signs, it did take me really off guard.

“After he passed, I got an overwhelming amount of messages from people saying we looked so happy and that they always wanted what we had,” Isabel shared.

Months after losing her husband, Isabel received flowers from him beyond the grave. She was “freaked out,” but learned Christopher arranged the delivery months prior for their first Valentine’s Day because he knew he would be deployed at the time.

After sharing her story, Isabel received criticism by people online who accused her of having to do something with her husband’s decision to take his own life.

“There are people in my life that say I had something to do with it. I know it’s not true, my husband and I were very happy. No one can change that or take that away from me.

“There are things I do blame myself for but I don’t think we were unhappy or that I did it. He obviously was fighting demons and no one knew about it. I’m not doing well; there’s a part of me that is gone forever.”

She said she knew he didn’t do it to hurt her.

“For whatever reason he probably thought that people would be better off without him,” Isabel said.

Study suggests anal cancer is on the rise and reveals who’s most at risk

A recent study to be presented at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2025 reveals alarming raise of people diagnosed with anal cancer.

Anal cancer is a rare type of cancer that affects the anus, as explained by NHS.

It can start at any part of the anus, which is where the bowel connects to the outside of the body.

Some common symptoms of this type of cancer include bleeding from your bottom, itching and pain around the anus, lumps around and inside the bottom, discharge of mucus, and bowel issues.

This form of cancer can easily be mistaken for haemorrhoids or anal fissures, which are less serious conditions.

According to the study, a particular profile of people is most vulnerable to anal cancer.

“Rates of anal cancer are rising fastest among white and Hispanic women over 65 — groups not traditionally considered high risk,” said lead author Ashley Robinson, MD, a second-year internal medicine resident at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

This cancer is usually caused by an infection called human papillomavirus (HPV).

“While the exact reasons behind this trend remain unclear, most older women were beyond the recommended age for human papillomavirus vaccination when it first became widely available,” Robinson explained.

HPV vaccine reduces the chances of getting human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a common virus that’s spread through skin contact (usually when having sex).

This vaccine is offered to children aged 12 to 13 years old, as well as to those aged over 25 who missed their vaccination.

“It’s crucial that we promote HPV vaccination as a key tool for preventing anal cancer, while also keeping health care providers informed as screening guidelines evolve,” Dr. Robinson said. “These findings highlight specific patient groups who may benefit from targeted screening for anal HPV and anal cancer.”

The study in question, conducted between 2017 and 2021, revealed anal cancer increased by 2.9% for women and 1.6% for men. The increase is highest in white women aged over 65 – 4,43%. The second group that saw increase during the five-year study period are Hispanic women in the same age group with an increase of 1.7%.

Cancer Research UK states that there is no national screening program for this type of cancer because there is no test that can detect it at its early stage.

Police foil bomb plot targeting Lady Gaga’s concert attended by 2 million

Police foiled a bomb plot targeting Lady Gaga’s record-breaking concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, attended by an estimated 2.1 million people on Saturday.

Brazilian authorities said they made arrests related to the planned bomb attack.

“The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails,” the police said in a statement.

According to the Justice Ministry, recruiters presented themselves as part of Lady Gaga’s global fanbase, famously called the “Little Monsters.” They used social media channels and coded language to encourage youngsters to attack the concert. The goal of the planned attack was to gain notoriety on the social media, according to the authorities.

The operation to apprehend the terror suspects, codenamed “Operation Fake Monster,” was launched by the ministry’s Cyber Operations Lab following a tip-off to Rio state police intelligence.

Authorities carried out raids across Rio de Janeiro state as well as in the states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Mato Grosso.

Lady Gaga’s team broke their silence regarding the incident, claiming neither they nor Gaga were made aware of the bomb plot prior or during the concert.

“Prior to and during the show, there were no known safety concerns, nor any communication from the police or authorities to Lady Gaga regarding any potential risks,” a spokesperson said.

“Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”

Lady Gaga said that the oceans of fans “took her breath away.”

“Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show—the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil,” she posted on Instagram.

“The sight of the crowd during my opening songs took my breath away. Your heart shines so bright, your culture is so vibrant and special, I hope you know how grateful I am to have shared this historical moment with you. An estimated 2.5 million people came to see me sing, the biggest crowd for any woman in history.”

Experts issue urgent warning over ‘popcorn lung’ as studies reveal vaping condition is irreversible

While vaping may seem like a safer alternative to smoking for many, the ‘permanent’ impacts of vaping can be damaging to the body.

Donal O’Shea, Professor of Chemistry at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, warns of the serious and irreversible condition known as bronchiolitis obliterans, or “popcorn lung.” It damages the tiny airways in the lungs, leading to persistent coughing, wheezing, fatigue and breathlessness.

The term “popcorn lung” originated in the early 2000s. Several workers at a microwave popcorn factory started developed lung issues from inhaling diacetyl.

“Similarly to the popcorn factory, flavoured vapes contain the chemical diacetyl – which, when aerosolised, becomes a ‘toxic inhalant’,” O’Shea explained in an article for The Conversation.

The warning of the dangers of vaping comes after a 17-year-old was recently diagnosed with the condition after three years of using e-cigarette.

According to O’Shea, the only way to avoid this illness is prevention.

“There’s no cure for popcorn lung. Once the lungs are damaged, treatment is limited to managing symptoms. This can include bronchodilators, steroids, and in extreme cases, lung transplantation. For this reason, prevention – not treatment – is the best and only defence,” he explained.

Diacetyl is not the only compound in e-cigarettes that can cause “popcorn lung.” Other chemicals, including volatile carbonyls such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, are also inhaled through vaping.

“Experts have estimated there being ‘over 180 different flavouring agents used in e-cigarette products today’ which, ‘when heated’ break down into ‘new compounds’ that haven’t all been ‘tested for inhalation safety’,” O’Shea explains.

Since the users of e-cigarettes inhale many chemicals, it’s hard to say if one alone—like diacetyl—causes “popcorn lung.”

Even if it doesn’t, being exposed to so many chemicals is harmful and can damage the lungs.

Diacetyl is banned in vapes across the EU and UK, but still legal in other countries, including the US.

Cared for my husband through cancer—his children kicked me out after he died

My love for my husband Elias was larger than life. When I met him, I was 39 and he was 52. He was the most charming and most thoughtful man ever to enter my life.

A year into dating, we tied the knot and life felt perfect. However, a couple of years later, he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

My days revolved around caring for him. For two years, I fed him, bathed him, and held him through the pain. His children, Maya and Jordan rarely visited. Even when they did, their stays were short. “We can’t handle seeing dad like this,” they’d say. And I was fine with it, because I was the one who could, the one that wanted to ease his days and remind him of how much he was loved.

Sadly, my husband passed away, and a day after his funeral, his children came to the house I shared with their father and told me I had until the end of the week to leave the place.

“Dad left the house to us and we are selling it,” they said, as coldly as if I meant nothing to them.

Days later, I found myself carrying two suitcases as heavy as the betrayal by Elias’ children.

With no place to stay, I stood in front of the house I once called home and wondered what my life would be like from that day on.

However, my thoughts were interrupted by a text message. “Check the storage unit on Fremont. Locker 112. Elias wanted you to have it.”

The message was sent from an unknown number. “Is this some sort of a prank?” I wondered, but still decided to check that storage unit.

The way to the unit seemed like an eternity. I had no idea what to expect.

When I arrived, the manager handed me a key after checking my ID. “Locker 112 is yours now,” he said with a smile on his face.

As I inserted the key, my hands started trembling. The door slowly opened, showing a cramped room stacked with boxes and a lone wooden chest.

There were also letters addressed to me.

It turned out my husband was aware of his children’s greed and wanted to secure my future. Among the letters, in which he wrote of his love for me, there was a collection of jewelry, most likely belonging to his late wife. There were also deeds for three vacation homes at different parts of the country—all in my name.

Inside the wooden chest there was a purple pouch. Nestled inside of it was a diamond ring, the biggest I have ever seen.

Months passed by and I started to thrive. I moved into one of the vacation homes located in the mountains of Colorado where I found my peace.

Woman smelled something ‘weird’ in hotel room — what she found traumatized her for life

Ukrainian vlogger Natalisi Taksisi shared a horrifying experience she had after taking a solo trip to Tokyo.

The hotel she booked seemed legit and she was looking forward to a trip to remember. However, little did she know that her dream gateway would turn into a nightmare.

Taking to TikTok, she explained that once at the hotel, she required a key card to access her floor and her room. After a day of exploring the city, she returned to her room and smelled something “weird.”

“I came back around 7.30 p.m, unlocked my room like usual, took off my clothes, and lay down on the bed,” she said. “And then I noticed a weird smell. At first I thought it was coming from my hair or the bed sheets, but then I realised it was coming from under the bed.”

Curious, she looked under the bed and was met with a pair of eyes staring right back at her.

She froze in fear before jumping up and screaming.

The man climbed out from under the bed and stared at her for a few seconds.

“Those seconds felt like my life was over,” Taksisi said.

The intruder then screamed and ran out of the room.

Scared and disturbed, Taksisi alerted the hotel staff who then called the police.

Upon investigation, they found a power bank and a USB cable under the bed.

“I kept asking the hotel, ‘How did it happen?’ and they didn’t have any answer for me.”

The officers told her they were probably not going to be able to track down the intruder, which scared Taksisi even more. She decided to leave the hotel spend the rest of the days into another one.

“I’m afraid he just wanted to wait until I switched off the lights, fall asleep and then climb from under the bed and choke me or do whatever,” she explained.

“It’s like my nightmare.”

Since then, she has experienced intense anxiety whenever she stays in a hotel.

While she doesn’t want to scare other girls who travel solo, Natalisi Taksisi warns them to be cautious and “check everything.”

Antarctica sees first ice gain in decades

The Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) has been crucial for the global sea-level rise crisis due to the loss of ice at alarming rates, particularly regions in West Antarctica and parts of East Antarctica.

Between 2021 and 2023, however, the Antarctic ice sheet gained mass after nearly two decades of steady decline, a study published in Science China Earth Sciences reveals.

According to researchers, the surprising anomaly is a result of unusually heavy snowfall. This led to a gain of around 107.79 gigatonnes of ice per year, reducing the annual rise in sea level to 0.30 millimeters.

The changes were spotted through analysis of the satellite gravimetry data from the GRACE and GRACE-FO missions, which measure variations in Earth’s gravity to detect changes in ice mass.

However, according to researchers, this historic turnaround doesn’t mean a lasting recovery as it is a result of abnormal weather patterns. In order for the trend of gaining ice mass to continue, there needs to be consistent snowfall and cooling temperatures. This, however, isn’t something that is much likely to happen.

Sadly, the climate crisis is still a threat.

The key factors that led the Antarctica to lose ice mass have been the raising temperatures that reduce snowfall accumulation, and the warming of ocean waters, causing chunks of ice to break off and melt into the ocean, raising the seas levels.

Melania Trump’s outfit at Pope’s funeral sparks reactions

While she’s been criticized by some for her choice of wardrobe on public occasions, most people agree that Melania Trump is the best dressed First Lady the country has ever had.

Melania received backlash in 2017 when she accompanied her husband to the G7 summit in Sicily and wore a Dolce and Gabana floral coat that cost $51,000. At the time, USA Today reported it was the equivalent of an average American’s household income.

Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary and author of the book I’ll Take Your Questions Now, recalled a specific moment when Trump went mad over his wife’s “mistake,” which made him target of wide criticism. Namely, on her way to a migrant housing facility in Texas, Melania wore a jacket with the text “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?”

The truth is that Melania Trump’s fashion statements often cause a stir among the public, and most recently, her choice of outfit for the Pope’s funeral didn’t fall short on sparking controversy.

Melania was dressed in an-all black outfit for the service from the Italian designer label Dolce & Gabbana, Women’s Wear Daily reported. Her outfit was a double-breasted coat paired with a black mantilla and black gloves.

This isn’t the first time the First Lady to opt for the Italian label.

“She’s always had a great relationship with Dolce & Gabbana. She is a very faithful person and has been wearing their outfits for a long time. It made sense to chose them given the place of religion in Italian culture,” photographer Régine Mahaux told WWD.

As a mark of respect, Melania wore a black lace funeral veil, known as a mantilla veil. Being of Slovenian descent—a traditionally Catholic country—her choice reflected cultural and religious significance. According to the Catholic Company, the mantilla is “often worn by faithful women as a way of emulating Mary, who is the archetype of humility.” It “signifies the role of women as a life-bearing vessel.”

Wearing the veil and closing her eyes several times during the service brought praise to the First Lady.

“Ultimate class and reverence, Melania Trump wearing a Mantilla Veil,” one user wrote on X, per Express. A second added: “Melania was perfect this time by wearing black and a mantilla.”

A third stated: “First Lady Melania Trump honored Pope Francis with a stunning black lace veil and elegant attire at his funeral, reflecting her deep appreciation for the moment. Her attire not only paid homage to her own Catholic faith but also echoed the iconic style of Jacqueline Kennedy, making it a significant fashion statement.”

As always, there were also those who criticized her choice—especially her high heels, which they deemed inappropriate.

“Why did Melania wear 8-inch heels to the pope’s funeral? Not appropriate. These people have zero class,” someone wrote.

While she earned admiration from the public, Melania’s husband was slammed for disrespecting Pope Francis and the service.

Namely, he opted for a blue color suit while everyone else’s was black.

People took to the social media to share their opinion. Many agreed that the US president lacked class and disrespected the pope by trying to steal the attention.

“Any reason why Donald Trump is in a blue suit and not wearing traditional black for a funeral?” someone wondered.

Another added: “I see that Trump’s wearing a blue suit to the Pope’s funeral so that he stands out. T**ser!”

Among those killed when a driver ploughed into a crowd at the Lapu-Lapu Day festival in the car-ramming attack in Vancouver in April was costume designer Jenifer Darbellay, wife of Hallmark actor Noel Johansen. His son, 15, and daughter, 7, also attended the festival together with their parents.

Both Johansen and his daughter were injured.

A couple of days following the tragedy, heartbroken Johansen, who appeared on crutches, said during a candlelight vigil, “What you see here is an injury that means nothing to me because what’s inside my heart is broken. Because my wife passed away behind me at the incident.”

He added, “She never celebrated herself in her life. She never thought of herself; she thought of herself as small in terms of the reach.

“And I can tell you she was larger than life for any of you who know her. So don’t be small in life, be big, reach out and reach out as a human being with everything you have and please remember us who went through this.”

Michael Daingerfield Hall, friend of the actor, started a GoFundMe page that has raised nearly $170,000 of its $200,000 goal.

Hall described Darbellay as “an incredibly thoughtful, warm, caring, smart, stylish, artistic woman.”

The devastated actor, who made appearances in Psych, Supernatural, Fargo and The Good Doctor, but is best known for the Hallmark movies Chesapeake Shores, Harvest Love, Reunited at Christmas, and Garage Sale Mystery: All That Glitters among the rest, fought to fight tears back when paying tribute to his late wife.

The person who caused the tragedy and killed 11 festival attendees, 30-year-old Kai-Ji Adam Lo, has since been arrested and charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, but more charges are expected, officials said.

Acting Police Chief Steve Rai said the suspect was “known to police in certain circumstances.” He added he had “a significant history of interactions with police and healthcare professionals related to mental health.” Rai, however, wouldn’t disclose whether or not the suspect had a past criminal record.

According to BBC News, witnesses said that the man drove “completely straight, right through the crowd.”

GOP: Biden admin misled on leaked tax returns, including Trump’s

Former IRS contractor Charles Edward Littlejohn leaked the records of over 405,000 taxpayers, according to Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee. This confirms that the actual scale of leaked IRS tax returns was far greater than the 70,000 cases initially reported by the Biden administration.

Littlejohn is currently serving a five-year sentence after pleading guilty to the leaks.

“New disclosure reveals that the Biden IRS leaked taxpayer information of over 405,000 Americans — including President Trump’s,” the House Judiciary Committee wrote. “The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe.

IRS informed those impacted by Littlejohn’s illegal actions, 89% of which business entities.

“Relying on data analysis by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) and the IRS, the IRS mailed notifications to 405,427 taxpayers whose taxpayer information was inappropriately disclosed by Mr. Littlejohn,” the IRS wrote in a Feb. 14 letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

Littlejohn used the IRS archive to access the tax returns of billionaires like Peter Thiel, Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos, as well as Donald Trump’s. He then leaked them to ProPublica and The New York Times.

In order to avoid detection, Littlejohn “uploaded the tax returns to a private website in order to avoid IRS protocols established to detect and prevent large downloads or uploads from IRS devices or systems,” the Justice Department said in a press release.

While some praised Littlejohn for exposing the unfairness in the system, others accused him of damaging the public’s trust in the IRS.

In fact, pillows contain certain chemicals that can affect your health.

One of the most concerning is flame retardants, applied to materials to prevent burning or slow the spread of fire. According to NIH, some of the harmful impacts on your health caused by flame retardants may include “endocrine and thyroid disruption, immunotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, cancer, and adverse effects on fetal and child development and neurobehavioral function.”

VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are gases emitted from certain solids or liquids and include a variety of chemicals. In pillows, they can be released from adhesives used to hold the materials together and from the fabric covering the pillow.

When the same pillow is used for a long period of time — sometimes for months, it collects dead skin cells, oils released from the skin, and dirt. Worn-out pillows are the perfect environment for mites, bacteria, mold, and fungi.

The most common types of pillows that are likely to contain these harmful chemicals are the memory foam pillows. The same goes for pillows made of polyester or other synthetic fibers.

It is for the best to opt for pillows made from natural materials, such as bamboo or buckwheat.

Wisconsin judge refuses to hold court after fellow judge is arrested

Judge Hannah Dugan, a judge in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, got arrested after being charged with felonies for helping an immigrant without documents escape federal officials.

In a social media post, the director of the FBI, Kash Patel, accused Judge Dugan of “intentionally misdirecting” agents from the immigrant who was in the country illegally. Later, he deleted the post.

Judge Dugan’s arrest was confirmed by Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The immigrant in question, Mexican Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, was in Dugan’s courtroom on April 18.

Aware that agents with ICE, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and the FBI were in front of her courtroom at the time Flores-Ruiz had a hearing, Judge Dugan allegedly escorted him out of the courtroom via a jury door. Before doing so, she demanded that agents speak with the Milwaukee County Circuit Court’s chief judge.

As reported, Flores-Ruiz is facing three misdemeanor battery counts which come from a fight with his roommates. He, however, doesn’t have other criminal charges.

Following Judge Dugan’s arrest, Judge Monica Isham of the Sawyer County Circuit Court demanded that the state’s top judicial officials provide clear guidance; otherwise, she will cease all court operations in her jurisdiction.

In the email she sent, titled “Guidance Requested or I Refuse to Hold Court,” Judge Isham wrote, “If there is no guidance for us and no support for us, I will refuse to hold court in Branch 2 in Sawyer County.

“I will not put myself or my staff who may feel compelled to help me or my community in harm’s way.”

She added: “I have no intention of allowing anyone to be taken out of my courtroom by ICE and sent to a concentration camp, especially without due process, as BOTH of the constitutions we swore to support require. Should I start raising bail money?”

Trump took office for a second term and his inauguration was attended by key political figures.

Among those in attendance was former President Barack Obama. However, his wife, Michelle Obama, was not by his side, which only fueled rumors of an alleged divorce.

Also, Michelle missed Jimmy Carter’s funeral, which raised eyebrows at the time.

The former first lady was a guest on Sophia Bush’s podcast, Work in Progress, where she discussed life after her daughters have moved out.

“[Life] is whatever I want, Sophia, It’s whatever I want,” she said, adding that life of an “empty nester” is liberating.

“It’s the first time in my life all of my choices are for me.”

She then spoke of the position of women in society.

“They couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”

On the podcast IMO, which she co-hosts with her brother, Michelle Obama revealed the real reason why she didn’t attend Trump’s inauguration.

“It started with not having anything to wear,” she said. However, being someone who owns a wardrobe for any occasion, it was as though she subconsciously stopped herself from attending the inauguration.

Inside Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s relationship with Pope Francis

Pope Francis’ funeral was attended by more than 250,000 people. The Italian government confirmed the presence of over 100 foreign delegations.

Among the world leaders who attended the funeral of the first pope from Latin-America was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena.

The two sat in the front row following an exception from the strict rules and traditions regarding seating. Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, told The Telegraph that Zelenskyy and his wife filled a “vacant place.”

The outfit Zelenskyy wore for Pope Francis’ funeral wasn’t a dark suit accompanied by a long black tie and a black button on the left side of the jacket, as advised. Instead, he wore a tailored military-style field jacket.

The Ukrainian leader hasn’t worn a suit since Russia went into war with his country three years ago. He also didn’t wear a suit during his meeting with Donald Trump at the Oval Office, a topic touched by reporter who criticized Zelenskyy for wearing a military outfit for such a formal meeting.

“I will wear costume after this war will finish,” he replied.

Zelenskyy paid his tributes to Pope Francis despite Ukrainian officials feeling that the Vatican had not done enough to support Ukraine.

In March 2024, Pope Francis triggered criticism when he said Ukraine should negotiate and end the war by showing the courage “the courage to raise the white flag.”

“The strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people, and has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates,” Pope Francis said. “When you see that you are defeated, that things are not going well, you have to have the courage to negotiate.”

Ukraine firmly rejected the pope’s proposal, with the country’s Vatican ambassador comparing it to appeasing Hitler, and Zelenskyy later addressed the issue without naming the pope.

“They are on the frontline, protecting life and humanity, supporting with prayer, conversation, and deeds,” Zelenskyy said. “This is what the church is – it is together with people, not two-and-a-half thousand kilometres away somewhere, virtually mediating between someone who wants to live and someone who wants to destroy you.”

Vatican then said that when he spoke of a “white flag,” Pope Francis indicated “a truce reached with the courage of negotiation.”

In December, during a mass, Pope Francis received backlash once again when he called Ukraine and Russia “brother.”

Two months before his passing, the pontiff called the war between the two countries “painful and shameful.”

“As I renew my solidarity with the martyred Ukrainian people, I invite you to remember the victims of all armed conflicts and to pray for the gift of peace in Palestine, Israel, and throughout the Middle East, in Myanmar, in Kivu, and in Sudan,” Pope Francis said.

Ukraine has accused the pope of not doing enough to support their country. They also claimed he hadn’t condemned Russia for the invasion.

An unnamed official told AFP that Vatican and Pope Francis showed an “absolute ignorance of this part of the world.”

Despite the criticism, the Ukrainian official showed gratitude for Vatican’s efforts in mediating the return of Ukrainian children, taken from occupied parts of the country to Russia, as well as in prisoner exchanges.

Following Pope Francis’ passing, Zelenskyy paid tribute on his and on the behalf of the Ukrainian people.

“I met with members of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations. Yesterday, we all received the sorrowful news of the passing of Pope Francis. My condolences. We remember his prayers for peace in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote.

“Our state will be represented in Rome at the farewell ceremony this coming Saturday. This is now the week following Easter, yet every day brings Russian shelling and strikes. We all believe that this Easter season can provide an opportunity to take the necessary steps toward silence and peace. A real ceasefire is needed, as is a lasting and solid peace. Ukraine needs the support of religious communities — spiritual diplomacy, the diplomacy of values, always helps. This was the central focus of our meeting. It is important to continue engaging with our international partners”.

The President of Ukraine concluded, “I thank the churches and religious organizations for every achievement in advocating for Ukraine, for their prayers, and for the support they have given to our people throughout the entire war.”

Robert De Niro’s reaction after his child comes out as transgender

Actor Robert De Niro is a proud father of seven children whom he shares with four different women. He and Tiffany Chen welcomed the newest addition to the family in April 2023, when the actor was 79.

Recently, one of his children came out as transgender at 29, and his heartwarming response shows the depth of his love and support as a father.

Airyn, born in 1995 while De Niro was in a relationship with Toukie Smith, came out as transgender in an April interview with Them magazine.

Speaking of her transition to a woman, De Niro’s transgender child said, “It just felt right. I feel like I’m meant to be doing this.”

Despite being a child of a Hollywood icon, Airyn has spent most of her life out of the spotlight. She only opened up of her transition after media outlets spotted her with long pink hair and made headlines.

“Obviously no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight. They wanted it very private,” she told Them. “They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible.”

Airyn further revealed that she had started hormonal therapy back in November.

“Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success… I’m like, you know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me. Maybe I can start,” she said.

Her dad was clear about his feelings for her after her revelation and said he didn’t know why anyone would question his feelings for her.

“I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is,” he told People in a statement.

The actor added: “I love all my children.”

Oncologist reveals the first sign they notice in most cancer patients

Receiving a cancer diagnosis comes with fear and uncertainty. It is the moment when the person diagnosed with this complex disease feels like their entire world has turned upside down. Depending on how advanced the cancer is, patients face treatments and often extended hospital stays.

Dr Leigh Erin Connealy, MD, the founder of the Center For New Medicine in Irvine, California, shared some insights from the lives of patients diagnosed with cancer.

Dr Connealy, who is also the author of the book The Cancer Revolution, which focuses on a “ground-breaking program to reverse and prevent cancer,” shared on TikTok the one thing she noticed in more cancer patients.

“A common theme I find in cancer patients regularly is that they have usually suffered some very stressful event,” she explained. “It could be extreme work conditions, it may be a child, might be a parent, might be a divorce.

“But they usually have gone under some extreme stress, which we know affects the whole hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA) and the cortisol production.”

HPA is a communication system between three organs and crucial for your body’s stress management, My Cleveland Clinic explains. “It consists of cells that release hormones into your blood (via your endocrine system) in response to nervous system stimulation.”

Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone that works with certain parts of your brain to control your mood, motivation, and fear.

“Extreme cortisol production contributes to the rate cancer grows and proliferates,” Dr Connealy said in her video seen by over 2 million people.

In the caption, she wrote, “New research suggests that high cortisol and stress hormones play a key role in the development of cancer, metastasis, and increase the risk of recurrence.

“An excess of these hormones may be directly carcinogenic by suppressing immune function, promoting inflammation, and inhibiting normal cell function. Treating and mitigating stress should be a top priority when treating cancer.

“Stress hormones are absolutely necessary. They enable the body to respond effectively to stressful situations and ensure our survival.”

Common household chemical linked to over 350,000 deaths

An alarming new study showed a link between a common household chemical used to make plastic more pliable and heart disease fatalities — more than 350,000 a year.

This chemical, di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), is found in a huge selection of household items, including detergents, shampoo bottles, garden hoses, wallpapers, plastic toys, and various food packaging. Also, in most cleaning products, wire and cable coatings, and even in medical products such as IV bags and tubing, blood bags, and catheters. The truth is, the list is so long, it can take a day to read.

The 2018 study by the NYU Langone Health in New York, US, examined the deaths of men and women aged between 55 and 64 — age group most at-risk of heart disease — and discovered that 13% of them were linked to exposure to this common household chemical.

“The past decade has presented a new and previously unrecognised risk for cardiovascular disease: exposure to plastic polymers and their chemical additives,” the researchers wrote in the journal eBiomedicine.

“Of particular concern are phthalates, particularly one class of DEHP, which are used to soften polyvinylchloride (PVC) plastics.”

Study lead author Sara Hyman, an associate research scientist at NYU Grossman School of Medicine said, “By highlighting the connection between phthalates and a leading cause of death across the world, our findings add to the vast body of evidence that these chemicals present a tremendous danger to human health.”

In fact, DEHP and other phthalates have long been associated with a range of health issues, including cancer, obesity, diabetes, and reproductive problems.

The research in question now links DEPH to inflammation of the arteries, which increases the risk of heart disease and heart attack.

Researchers also discovered that Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and the Pacific face higher exposures to this so called “everywhere chemical,” due to weaker manufacturing restrictions than in the West.

They urge for regulations that would limit the usage of DEPH globally.

Missing Missouri teen located hundreds of miles from home

A Missouri teen who went missing in December was located hiding in the closet of a registered s*x offender in Colorado, 700 miles away from home.

The teen managed to help police locate her after she was able to send a message on Instagram. From the moment of her disappearance until her rescue, her social media accounts had been inactive.

She was reported missing by her father when the school called him on December 6 to inform him she missed classes that day.

When she was able to access her Instagram account four months after vanishing, investigators were able to track down the IP address where the account was logged into.

When they arrived at the door of 44-year-old registered sex offender Maximilian Bondrescu, in Fort Collins, just outside Denver, on April 15, he denied ever meeting the girl. However, given his status on the sex offender registry, police returned with a warrant three days later. They searched his house and found the teen hiding inside a closet.

According to the Daily Mail, Bondrescu has been “charged with child abuse, harboring a minor, obstructing a peace officer, second-degree assault, and false imprisonment after allegedly locking the girl in a room for extended periods and using threats to keep her compliant.”

Upon her rescue, the teen reported that she and Bondrescu started communicating in November 2024. They first used the app called Boo, but later switched to SnapChat.

They agreed for him to help her run away from home.

Bondrescu rented a car and picked her up from her Missouri home. He then drove her to Colorado, avoiding toll roads.

According to the police, the girl wore and mask and sunglasses on the rare occasions she was let outside. She also revealed that Bondrescu forced her to work for his snow plowing company FoCo Sno GO.

She didn’t have any access to her social media account because he smashed her phone the moment he took her to his house. However, he then gave her one of his old phones, unaware the Instagram app was still installed. It was then that the teen was able to send a message, hoping someone would see it.

Bondrescu is being held on $500,000 bond. His court date is scheduled for Monday, May 5, according to Larimer County Jail records.

Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky said, “The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit, and similar units across the nation play a vital role in helping to keep our children safe.”

“Had it not been for the diligent work of these detectives, the juvenile could have continued to be victimized. Our investigators will now work closely with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure justice for this child.”

Poll shows majority of Maine voters against re-electing Collins

Susan Collins, serving as the senior United States senator from Maine as a member of the Republican party, has held her seat since 1997, and according to a recent poll, people from Maine believe she shouldn’t be running again in 2026.

The survey, which shows that 71 percent of potential voters do not believe she deserves yet another term, was published by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center Thursday.

Additionally, 21 percent of the survey responders said they would likely support Senator Collins’ attempt to run for the Senate.

Collins has frequently opposed President Trump’s policies. She has voted against his nominees, including Kash Patel for FBI Director and Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, and has strongly criticized his tariff decisions.

While most Republicans oppose Collins’ push to return to Congress, they are not certain who should run for her seat.

A number of Trump supporters criticized Collins for not supporting the president’s political strategies and decisions fully. Instead, she sometimes sided with the Democrats which made it harder for Trump to push through his planned reforms. Among the rest, Collins voted against Trump’s tax overhaul and the changes to the Affordable Care Act during his first term in office.

Senator Susan Collins has held her seat since 1997, and according to a recent poll, people from Maine believe she shouldn't be running again.

Despite Maine’s overall Democratic lean in national politics, Senator Collins has managed to remain the state’s longest-serving member of Congress because of her influence over federal spending decisions, particularly those affecting her home state.

Without Senator Collins on the ballot, Republicans may experience a hard time winning the seat.

President Donald Trump spoke about the progress the country has made under his leadership during an interview with an ABC marking his first 100 days in office.

He made some bald statements, some of which dubious.

Despite receiving criticism regarding many of his decisions, especially those related to immigration, the controversial tariffs, and overhauling the federal government, Trump claimed he made America “a respected country again.”

Sitting down with ABC news anchor and senior national correspondent Terry Moran, Trump claimed the country is doing great. “Prices are down, gasoline is down, energy is down. Tourism is going to be way up—wait until you see the numbers. Tourism is way up,” he said from the Oval Office.

Moran was quick to point out that federal data contradicted Trump’s claim about tourism, showing that tourism is actually down, not up. However, the president doubled down, stating once again that the tourism is doing great and that the real numbers would be out in the months to come.

The National Travel and Tourism Office, a federal agency within Trump’s administration, showed a significant decline in the number of foreign visitors to the US since he has taken office for a second term.

Their data shows a decline of 11.6% of international arrivals compared to the same period last year, with the number of Western visitors going down for 17.2% year-over-year.

Dr. Heather Thompson, director of the Tourism Economics Research Center at Cornell University, explains: “What makes these numbers particularly concerning is that they represent a deviation from the recovery trajectory we were seeing. International tourism to the U.S. had been steadily rebuilding since the pandemic, but we’re now seeing a clear reversal of that trend in the first quarter of 2025.”

Not only Moran, but others also questioned why Trump would lie about something easily proven not true during the interview marking his first 100 days in office.

Among them was the founder of hedge fund Tolou Capital Management, Spencer Hakimian, wondered, “Why lie about the most easily disprovable data points?”

One person commented: “In a few weeks, the data will be too overwhelming to lie about.”

Another added: “He literally cannot deal with reality when the reality makes him look bad.”

A third suggested: “Believes his own rhetoric it seems!”

Moran challenged Trump on immigration, tariffs, and gang crime, and the exchange grew heated at times, with Trump telling Moran, “I’ve never even heard of you.”

Trump and Moran clashed over the widely discussed case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia who was deported to the world’s worst prison in El Salvador along with other 238 supposed criminals – American immigrants.

Garcia was deported due to an error made by Trump’s administration, but he still has not returned home, and as it seems, he won’t any time soon.

The president of El Salvador said of Garcia, after Trump’s administration claimed it is up to him to return the wrongly convicted man, “I hope you’re not suggesting that I smuggle a terrorist into the United States. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? Of course I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous.

“We just turned the murder capital of the world to the safest country the western hemisphere. And you want us to go back into the releasing criminals, so we can go back to the murder capital of the world, and that’s not going to happen.”

Later in the interview marking the first 100 days of Trump in office, Moran presented evidence suggesting that Garcia wasn’t a member of the MS-13 gang.

Trump, however, pointed to a photo of Garcia having the gang’s name, “MS-13,” tattooed on his knuckles. When Moran said it was photoshopped, Trump replied, “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. He had MS-13 on his knuckles.

“They’re giving you the big break of a lifetime, you know — you’re doing the interview. I picked you because, frankly, I never heard of you, but that’s OK. But you’re not being very nice.”

Throughout the interview, Moran and Trump also clashed over the tariffs, especially those imposed on China, the Ukrainian-Russian war, and over the leaked chat by the Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth among the rest.

Colin Farrell on ‘tricky’ decision to put son in care facility

While we believe in the illusion that celebrities have flawless lives, we sometimes forget that they are just humans, like the rest of us.

Being famous doesn’t mean not struggling and not facing issues. However, when these people who we adore so much open up about their hardships, they help raise awareness and break the stigma around difficult topics.

Recently, actor Colin Farrell spoke of the “tricky” decision to place his 21-year-old son in a care facility.

The Oscar-nominated star opened up about his son’s diagnosis in the past and explained that James, whom he welcomed with ex-partner Kim Bordenave, has Angelman syndrome. It is a syndrome that affects the nervous system and causes developmental delays, among the rest.

While it doesn’t affect the life expectancy, people diagnosed with Angelman syndrome “will need support throughout their life,” NHS states.

Speaking to Candis Magazine, Farrell, 48, said of the decision to put James into a facility, “It’s tricky – some parents will say, ‘I want to take care of my child myself’, and I respect that.”

He added: “But my horror would be, what if I have a heart attack tomorrow, and, God forbid, James’ mother, Kim, has a car crash and she’s taken too – and then James is on his own?”

The actor added that in case of such a scenario, his son would become “a ward of the state.”

“We want him to find somewhere where he can have a full and happy life, where he feels connected,” Farrell said.

Speaking of James in 2008, the actor described him as “nothing but a gift.”

“He’s, as far as I’m concerned, exactly the way he should be.”

In his son’s honor, the Penguin star launched the Colin Farrell Foundation last year. It’s goal is to support children with intellectual disabilities.

He told People at the time: “Once your child turns 21, they’re kind of on their own. All the safeguards that are put in place, special ed classes, that all goes away, so you’re left with a young adult who should be an integrated part of our modern society and more often than not is left behind.

“I want the world to be kind to James. I want the world to treat him with kindness and respect.”

Colin Farrell added that his son has worked so hard all his life.
