Scientists explain shocking reality of what your brain sees right before death

Near-death experiences (NDEs) continue to fascinate scientists and the public alike.

Survivors of cardiac arrest often report seeing brilliant lights, feeling their consciousness leave the body, or sensing a presence beyond themselves.

Researchers believe these intense experiences might be the brain’s way of responding to life-threatening situations. While we understand the physical processes of death, what happens to the mind in those final moments remains one of neuroscience’s greatest mysteries.

Metro has shared the incredible story of a man named Tom Kearney who was hit by a bus before Christmas in 2009.

He ended up in a coma after his head split open and his lungs burst.

Tom remained in coma for two weeks and claimed to have seen people who had been dead. First, he saw himself in Ireland, in the house of his great-grandfather where he had seen his deceased grandparents. He recalled they telling him he wasn’t supposed to be there.

All of a sudden, he was shown a gate that took him to New York City at the house of his in-laws. Speaking to Metro, Tom shared his mother-in-law telling him, “You’re not supposed to be here. You’re supposed to be with your wife and your boys, did something happen?”

When he explained he was hit by a bus, his mother-in-law said, “No, no, no, no, you’re not supposed to be here. You’re supposed to leave, you’re not supposed to be here. Please go home”.’

Tom then recalled meeting other deceased relatives, all of whom told him the same thing as his grandparents and his mother-in-law.

He also said he could hear the voices of those who had visited him at the hospital while he was still in coma.

“[My wife] proceeded to talk to me every day. She brought my friends in, my family visited everyone, and they all talked to me.

“This is extremely important because the coma is a bit like you’re in an underwater submarine and you’re trying to steer yourself by sound.

“I was able to construct a thought world that existed in my coma, which was not deeply unpleasant. I went to lots of places in time. Now I have fully consolidated those memories as dream memories.”

Speaking of Tom’s near-death experience, Dr. Charlotte Martial, a neuroscientist with the Coma Science Group and the University of Liege, said she’s fascinated it is a pleasant one since most experiences shared by people who faced death are somewhat negative.

She explained that what most people describe seeing are their loved ones or flash light before their eyes.

The science behind near-death experiences is complex, according to Martial who explains: “So we notably suggest that hypoxia would be the starting point of the cascade of specific neurochemical mechanisms.”

When cells lack oxygen, chemicals are released that may produce experiences such as hallucinations or intense peacefulness. “We list the neurotransmitter change that may lead to specific features, such as the visual hallucination, or the fact that they feel an intense feeling of peacefulness, or the dissociation that happened at that time,” she explains.

In addition to serotonin, other neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, GABA, glutamate, and endorphins play a role, and the resulting sense of calm may act as a protective mechanism.

“This may arise as a defense mechanism when people face a stressful or life-threatening or painful situation,” Dr. Martial added.

Legendary primatologist Jane Goodall’s cause of death revealed

Jane Goodall, the pioneering British primatologist, zoologist, anthropologist, and conservationist widely regarded as the world’s leading expert on chimpanzees, has died aged 91.

The Jane Goodall Institute has announced her passing.

“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes,” the statement read.

“She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States. Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.”

As per the institute, the renowned zoologist died of natural causes.

Goodall spent 60 years of her life studying chimpanzees, transforming human understanding of these magnificent creatures through her groundbreaking research at Tanzania’s Gombe National Park

Her studies and observations on chimpanzees’ behavior revealed that they use tools and have complex social lives.

Despite having no formal scientific training, anthropologist Louis Leakey encouraged her to pursue primatology, later earning a doctorate from Cambridge.

Throughout her life, Goodall became a global advocate for animal welfare and environmental conservation. In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute to protect great apes and their habitats.

She traveled the world sharing her vision, the UN named her a Messenger of Peace in 2002, and the Queen awarded her a damehood in 2004. Goodall left a lasting legacy as one of the most influential primatologists in history.

“I’m desperate to make a difference before it’s too late,” Goodall told Parade in 2009, asked why she continued working past what many see as a retirement age. “We can just give up, or we can say, ‘We’ve done a lot of harm to the environment, but we’re going to fight for what’s left.’”

Throughout her decades-long career, Goodall faced both criticism and challenges. Early in her work, traditional scientists questioned her approach of naming chimpanzees and attributing emotions to them, arguing it was unscientific.

However, her groundbreaking insights won over skeptics.

Tributes came pouring in for Goodall after her sudden passing.

Among those who praised her life and work were the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former US presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and a number of influential people, celebrities and fans of Goodall’s work.

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio said “we all must carry the torch” for Dame Jane” and protect “our one shared home.”

While the world mourns Jane Goodall’s loss, her legacy continues to inspire.

Russia sends threat to strike 23 locations, fuelling WW3 fears

Dmitry Rogozin, a senior Russian official, ex-deputy premier and combat veteran, threatened that the UK will become “deadly dangerous” if they continue backing Ukraine.

Rogozin, who’s one of Putin’s closest allies, showed a map of 23 locations around UK that could come under attack. The locations he highlighted include both military and industrial sites lifted straight from the UK government’s ‘Defence Industrial Strategy 2025’ paper.

The threats came as a response to British defence secretary Ben Wallace’s statement about “making Crimea uninhabitable and unviable from a Russian point of view…

“Ukraine does not need to invade the peninsula (which I concede would be incredibly difficult if not impossible) but they should choke it to death,” Wallace added.

Dmitry Rogozin/ Roscosmos/EAST2WEST NEWS via Metro

Rogozin responded: “Former British Defence Minister Ben Wallace on what Kyiv and its NATO allies should do to end the military actions.

“We must help Ukraine acquire long-range capabilities to make Crimea uninhabitable. We need to strangle Crimea.

“What a sober minister has in mind, a former one has on his tongue.”

He continued: “However, it is even good that they reveal their true intentions.

“It is useful to read this for those of us who still consider peace with imperialist aggressors possible.

“And my advice to our [Russian] oligarchs: do not send your children to study in England!”

Rogozin concluded: “It is deadly dangerous.”

The map shows where could be struck/ East2West via The Express

Vladimir Solovyov, a TV presenter whose monologues echo Kremlin talking points, backed up Rogozin, saying, “Dmitry Rogozin today posted a reminder of targets in Britain that could be destroyed first. The idiots will get what’s coming to them.”

Speaking on a national TV, Solovyov warned that Russia might deploy its Poseidon underwater nuclear drone against Britain, adding that Britain could simply ‘not exist’ overnight, according to Daily Express.

He said: “But when the unfortunate Brits die, they should say your name, because it’s you, you moron, who brought trouble to the island.

“You’re a moron….

“He doesn’t care about the lives of Crimeans, he doesn’t care about their opinion.

“This is a man who has lost everything in his political career.

“If you remember, he dreamed of becoming NATO head…and [Joe Biden] they told him to get lost….”

REUTERS

Recently, Estonia accused Russia of flying MiG-31 jets over its airspace, calling the move “unprecedentedly brazen,” while Poland reported multiple Russian drone incursions last month, prompting NATO consultations, according to Uniland.

President Donald Trump suggested shooting down Russian planes if violations continue, a stance Moscow’s ambassador warned could trigger war.

Meanwhile, Russian state TV proposed destroying a WWII ship in the Thames estuary carrying 1,400 tonnes of explosives as “revenge” for UK-backed strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Alaska Airlines Flight 2221: How Quick Thinking Prevented Disaster

When Calm Turns to Crisis: The Alaska Airlines Flight 2221 Incident

What starts as an ordinary flight can quickly spiral into an emergency beyond anyone’s expectations. Passengers boarding Alaska Airlines Flight 2221 from Oakland to Portland were preparing for a routine journey when a sudden mental health crisis onboard transformed the flight into a tense ordeal at cruising altitude.

Shortly after takeoff, a male passenger experienced a severe psychotic episode, becoming aggressive and attacking other travelers. Panic swept through the cabin as passengers and crew faced an unexpected threat far above the ground.

Thanks to the swift and composed response of the flight attendants and several quick-thinking passengers, the man was subdued using seatbelt extenders as makeshift restraints.

This decisive intervention prevented injuries and allowed the crew to restore order. Upon landing in Portland, local authorities promptly took custody of the individual for a mental health evaluation. Despite the turmoil, the incident concluded without physical harm to any passengers or crew.

Key Takeaways

This event highlights the essential role of well-trained airline personnel and the importance of calm, immediate action when emergencies arise. It also illustrates how passenger vigilance and cooperation can be critical in maintaining safety onboard.

More broadly, the incident serves as a reminder of the complex challenges airlines face, including managing sudden mental health crises mid-flight. It underscores the importance of mental health awareness and preparedness to handle situations that go beyond the typical scope of in-flight emergencies.

Final Reflection

Alaska Airlines Flight 2221 was meant to be a simple domestic trip but quickly became a test of resilience, teamwork, and emergency readiness. The quick containment of the situation prevented potential tragedy and reassured passengers that safety protocols, combined with human courage and presence of mind, can save lives even at 30,000 feet.

As we consider the unpredictable nature of such events, this flight stands as a powerful example of why preparedness and compassion are indispensable in the skies.

The viral 70lbs baby who shocked viewers on Jerry Springer has grown up—see the incredible change

In 1996, viewers of The Jerry Springer Show met Zach Strenkert, a 3-foot-tall, 17-month-old baby who weighed staggering 70lbs.

His parents, Laurie and Chris, searched for answers why their baby was growing rapidly and sought help from the media.

Zach was growing an inch and gaining 2 and a half pounds every two weeks.

During the appearance on the show, Laurie told host Jerry Springer, “He’s not a big eater. That’s one of the most frequently asked questions.

“And that is also why we’re so concerned. Where is the growing coming from?”

The Jerry Springer Show

Finally, after Springer connected them with a geneticist, it was discovered that Zach had Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome (SGBS).

According to Rare Diseases, the syndrome represents an overgrowth disorder, “meaning that people with the disease are larger than average at birth (macrosomia) and continue to grow and gain weight at an unusual rate.” It primarily affects males.

The Jerry Springer Show

Growing up in Port Jervis, New York, Zach often appeared on shows like Oprah, Maury, and Inside Edition.

Looking back, he explains that while his mother’s intention was to find help, the experience left him feeling isolated.

“They presented me as different, which only separated me further from everyone else,” Zach, now 29, told The Mirror. “I was known as the kid that was on TV.

“Nowadays, people ask me what it was like. They assume my mom was chasing fame or money, but that wasn’t the case.” he continued. “We just wanted help with geneticists, which wasn’t easy to come by with our insurance.”

Zach Strenkert today/ @GiantOpana/X

Zach explained that his family’s goal was to raise awareness about living with SGBS.

“We didn’t really get a lot of take-home pay after all the affairs were done. It was strictly to make sure that her kid was okay,” he said.

Following the release of the Netflix documentary Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera Action, which left viewers horrified at the dark and unethical nature of the show’s production that often exploited guests for shock value, Zach admitted: “It’s just a spin on what’s already out there. It didn’t reveal anything new. It’s the same content, just packaged with bells and whistles.”

Today, Zach is focused on his physical health and overall well-being.

He used to weight 485lbs, but today, he weights around 280 pounds and feels better than ever.

He hopes his story would inspire others to start their health journey.

“If I can do it, anybody can do it,” he told Today. “You have to go at your pace. You’ll get there as long as you stay on the road and keep taking those steps.”

3 pain areas on your body that might be early cancer warning signs

Detecting cancer at an early stage significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. There are over 200 types of cancer, each with its own signs and symptoms.

The most important thing is to listen to your body and consult a doctor if you notice any unusual changes.

Cancer can affect specific areas of the body, such as the stomach or skin, or cause more general symptoms, including unexplained pain, fatigue, or weight loss. Some symptoms, like a lump, are widely known, but that doesn’t mean they are the most important or most likely indicators. Any unusual symptom should be checked by a healthcare professional.

Symptoms can vary from person to person, even for the same type of cancer. Some people may experience several symptoms, while others may have very few. It’s helpful to understand the types of symptoms to look out for:

  • Ongoing symptoms – last for more than a few weeks or keep coming back.
  • Unexplained symptoms – have no obvious cause, such as a new lump or unexpected bleeding.
  • Unusual symptoms for you – changes that are not normal for your body, like a persistent cough or a changing mole.

Understanding these signs and speaking to your doctor promptly can make a real difference in early diagnosis and treatment success.

This article highlights three types of pain that could signal early-stage cancer.

1. Unexplained Back Pain

A number of people experience back pain every day. This pain may be a result of muscle strain, lifestyle factors, poor posture, certain underlying medical conditions, or simply, aging.

Cancer is rarely the cause for back pain, but it’s possible for lower back pain to be associated with cancers like spinal, colorectal, or ovarian cancer.

Healthline notes that “back pain that could be a sign of cancer usually occurs along with other cancer symptoms.”

Some of those symptoms include back pain unrelated to movement or not worsened by activity, pain that appears at night or early morning and eases during the day, persistent pain despite treatment, changes in bowel or urinary habits – including blood, sudden and unexplained weight loss, unexplained fatigue, weakness, numbness, or tingling in arms or legs.

Early-stage cancers like lung, pancreas, or kidney cancer can cause back pain by pressing on nearby nerves, muscles, or bones. Pancreatic cancer, in particular, often begins with gradually worsening back pain that may spread to the lower abdomen.

If your back pain is persistent, seek medical help.

2. Persistent Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain is a common symptom that can be caused by many conditions, including cancer. In cancer, this pain may result from the tumor itself, its spread to other organs, or side effects of treatment.

Cancers that can cause abdominal pain include pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Early-stage stomach cancer may cause upper abdomen discomfort, which is usually rated as mild to moderate and described as bloating or a dull pain. Pain can increase in frequency from dull to sharp as cancer develops.

Some women with ovarian cancer may experience pelvic or abdominal pain, bloating, or changes in appetite.

So if you’re experiencing consistent, repetitive or severe abdominal pain — especially if it’s accompanied by weight loss, nausea or difficulty eating — it’s wise to have a healthcare provider assess the situation.

3. Headaches and Neurological Symptoms

Although most headaches are caused by dehydration, illness, or sinus problems and aren’t usually concerning, they can also indicate a brain tumor, so it’s important to know what other warning signs to look for.

Because the skull is made of bones, anything that grows inside it — such as a tumor — can raise pressure on the brain. This increase in intracranial pressure frequently presents as headaches.

Consult with your doctor if you are dealing with new headache patterns, headaches that wake you from a sound sleep or are very painful; nausea, vision issues (flashing lights or blind spots), or headaches that worsen over weeks or months.

According to The Brain Tumor Charity, headaches caused by brain tumours are usually not relieved by painkillers, worse in the morning, and aggravated by straining, coughing, shouting, or bending over. Their intensity may lessen when standing upright, as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) begins to drain.

The ultimate guide to cloves: Benefits, uses, and common mistakes

Cloves are a versatile spice with a peculiar flavor used in the kitchen, especially in the Indian cuisine, and as a medicine. Among the rest, cloves are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, which makes them extremely healthy if included in your diet, but not excessively.

They are the lower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen also known as Syzygium aromaticum.

Cloves can be found in a variety of dishes, from sabzis and dals to even desserts, adding a spicy flavour and an aroma that elevates the dish to the next level.

Nowadays, they are mostly grown in India and Madagascar but are used in countries all around the world.

Besides being used as a spice, cloves are the source of clove oil, a concentrated essential oil high in volatile compounds and antioxidants.

When it comes to the health benefits this spice provides, they are many. From supporting the immune function, fighting infections, helping stabilize blood sugar levels, providing pain relief, and promoting digestive health to relieving itchy skin and fighting obesity, cloves are a powerhouse of healing properties.

Ease Dental Pain and Prevent Gum Disease

Eugenol, found in cloves, has strong antibacterial effects that can fight plaque, cavities, and gum disease. Clove oil or clove-based rinses may ease toothaches and gum inflammation. Of course, it is not a permanent solution, but a temporary pain relief, so always check with a dentist if your pain proceeds.

May Help Lower Blood Sugar

Cloves have been linked to better blood sugar control, possibly by enhancing insulin response. While adding them to meals is safe, they shouldn’t replace your prescribed treatments.

May Help Lower Blood Pressure

Cloves may help relax blood vessels and ease blood pressure, while also fighting inflammation. Adding them to food or even using clove oil in aromatherapy could support heart health.

Relieve Itchy Skin

Traditionally, clove oil’s been used to ease itching and irritation. Just mix it with coconut or olive oil before applying, and test a small spot first. If you’ve got sensitive skin, check with your doctor to be safe.

Improve Breathing

Got stubborn mucus after a cold? Breathing in steam with cloves might help open airways and soothe your throat. Add a few cloves to hot water, cover your head with a towel, and inhale gently. Be careful, it should be warm, not scalding.

Cloves for Weight Loss?

If you are trying to lose weight, cloves might give your metabolism a gentle boost and support the process. This is thanks to the compounds like eugenol that cloves have. Of course, consuming cloves alone doesn’t do all the work, you should as well have regular sleep, balanced diet, and exercise.

Despite the benefits they offer, overusing cloves can provide more harm than good, so make sure you avoid the common mistakes people make with this spice.

Storing Cloves Improperly

When exposed to heat, moisture, or light, cloves lose their properties. That is why it is crucial to store them the right way in order to keep their qualities. With that said, they should be stored in airtight dark glass or ceramic containers, kept in a cool, dry place like a pantry.

Overusing them

While cloves offer numerous health benefits, consuming too much can backfire. One or two cloves daily is a reasonable amount. Everything above that number may upset your stomach and stress your liver due to excess eugenol. A with any other food out there, moderation is key.

Combining Cloves with Diabetes Medication

Because they help reduce the levels of sugar in the blood, combining them with medications such as insulin or metformin — which serve the same purpose — may lower your blood sugar too much. This can lead to dizziness, weakness, and confussion.

Replacing Dental Care with Clove Use

Cloves can temporarily relief a toothache, but they don’t treat the underlying cause. Prolonged use without dental care may lead to complications so only use them as a temporary remedy.

Misusing Clove Essential Oil

Clove oil is super strong, with one drop being equal to a dozen of whole cloves. If applied directly to the skin or the gums, it may cause burns. Instead, you should mix it with a carrier oil and use it in small amounts. It is intended for aromatherapy or diluted topical application only, never for consumption.

How to Use Cloves for Wellness?

1. Clove Tea (Simple & Soothing)

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3–4 whole cloves
  • Optional: cinnamon stick, lemon slice, or raw honey

Steep for 5–10 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm.

This tea helps with sore throat, digestion, and is great during the cold season.

2. Diluted Clove Oil (For Oral or Topical Use)

  • Mix 1–2 drops of food-grade clove oil with 1 tsp carrier oil (like coconut or olive oil)
  • Use for:
    • Toothache relief
    • Minor skin irritations (patch test first)
    • Natural cleaning spray (antimicrobial)

*Undiluted clove oil can burn skin or damage tooth enamel.

3. Homemade Mouthwash

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1–2 drops clove oil
  • 1 drop tea tree oil

Gently swish in your mouth for 30 seconds.

We didn’t think he would make it through the night: He kept asking for ‘Murphy…’

The bond between humans and dogs goes back centuries. This bond is not founded on words or vows, but on constant presence and loyalty. Sometimes, dog’s devotion is so profound that it carries people through life’s toughest moments.

Walter was so ill that the doctors feared he wouldn’t make it through the night. His breathing was shallow, and his high fever forced him to drift in and out of consciousness. Yet even in that state, he kept whispering one name over and over again: “Murphy… Murphy…”

For a while, everyone thought he had been calling for his son or an old friend. But when they asked him who Murphy was, he replied faintly, “My boy… my good boy.”

The nurses called his daughter, who could hardly hold back her tears. “Murphy is his Golden Retriever,” she said, adding, “He’s thirteen. We left him with my brother while Dad’s in the hospital.”

Eventually, the nurse worked things out and Murphy came. A few hours later, the dog quietly entered the room, as calm and as faithful as ever, with his tail wagging slightly in greeting. Without any hesitation, he went straight to Walter’s bed and lay his head on Walter’s chest.

Walter opened his eyes and smiled. “Murphy… did you find her?” he said.

His daughter looked confused. “Who?”

And that’s when Walter explained that years ago, he and Murphy had searched the snow for a teenager named Lizzie who had gone missing. Everyone else had given up looking—but not them. One day, Murphy barked near a ditch and refused to move on. When Walter went to investigate, they found Lizzie there, alive but weak from hunger. That memory had stayed with him all these years.

That story sounded so special, that it was quickly shared with friends and family, and it somehow reached Lizzie, who was now a grown woman and mother herself. She sent Walter’s daughter a message, saying, “My name is Lizzie. I think that’s me.”

A few days later, Lizzie came to see Walter. She hugged him tightly and whispered: “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Walter smiled, shaking his head, “No, it wasn’t me. It was Murphy.”

When Walter died shortly after, Lizzie attended his funeral and spoke through her tears, “Murphy found me twice. First when I was lost in the snow, and again when he brought me back to say goodbye.”

Not long afterward, Murphy also passed away. The family buried him next to Walter, and upon his grave they placed a stone that read, “Murphy – Guardian Angel. Forever a good boy.”

This story is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is a single loyal heart to change someone’s life. And if you’re lucky, there will be a “Murphy” in yours as well.

61-year-old man remarries his first love, wedding night brings shocking revelation

Richard, 61, had been living a life of solitude since his wife died eight years ago. His children checked on him every once in a while, helping him with money and medicine, but their lives were so busy that there was little time for bonding.

He somehow got used to the thought of spending the rest of his life all by himself, until he stumbled upon a familiar name on Facebook: Anna Whitmore, his first love.

Anna was the girl he made a vow to himself to marry, but he never fulfilled that promise. Her hair was as red-bright as autumn leaves, and her laughter was contagious. At least that was how he remembered her.

Sadly, her family decided to move places, and Richard didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye. All these years, he had no idea where she was or how her life turned out.

And now, to see her again, with streaks of gray in her hair, flooded him with the warmth of old memories. The two got back in touch, shared stories about their lives, and had long conversations over coffee dates.

Shortly after, he proposed, and she said, “yes.”

The wedding was simple. Richard had on a navy suit, and his bride an ivory silk dress. Friends murmured that they looked like teenagers.

But, the evening would take a startling turn.

As Richard helped her out of her dress, he noticed a scar on her wrist and by her collarbone. Alarmed, he asked softly, “Did somebody hurt you?”

She froze. Then she said with a voice that shook between fear and guilt, “Richard… my name isn’t Anna.”

She then went on to explain that Anna was her sister. “She died young,” she said. “Our parents buried her quietly. Family and friends always said I looked like her, spoke like her — I became a shadow of her. When you contacted me on Facebook, I couldn’t help myself. That someone looked at me the same way they looked at Anna, that was the first time it ever happened to me, and I didn’t want to let it go.”

Richard was shocked. The woman standing next to him wasn’t his old love.

He was mad at first, but then he looked at her and understood her reasons. Eleanor, that’s what her name was, had spent her life unnoticed, overshadowed by her sister.

“All I ever wanted was to know what it feels like to be chosen, just once,” Eleanor said, asking for forgiveness.

Without saying anything, Richard lay beside her. He was torn between the memory of his first love and this woman who had taken her place.

Richard took a deep breath, and quietly made up his mind: To stay with her, to accept the present instead of grieving over the past and to start a new chapter with Eleanor, unexpected one, but theirs.

A baby’s wail, a cop’s sixth sense

A young police officer starting off his job in Savannah has won the praise from many after helping a 16-month-old child found alone in gang-ridden Cuyler-Brownsville.

The photo of Officer James Hurst comforting the little boy has gone viral on Facebook, attracting thousands of likes and shares.

On May 9, Officer Hurst, who joined the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department in January, was dispatched as backup after residents reported a toddler wandering in high-traffic areas. While his training as a police officer guided his response, the father of two, one of whom has Down Syndrome, admits that his experience as a parent influenced his actions.

“This job is so much more than just chasing the bad guys, it is about serving the citizens of the communities you work in and doing what they need you to do,” Hurst said.

Savannah Police Department/ Facebook

The boy was taken to the Memorial University Medical Center.

In the emergency room, the distressed child began crying during the medical examination and that’s when Hurst asked if he could hold him.

“The boy, obviously, being so small, became very upset. He was crying. He was sobbing. I asked the hospital staff if I can hold him to comfort him and soothe him a little bit to try to calm him down, to continue getting medical care and they said that was fine. So I picked him up, minutes later, I was standing and he was asleep on my chest and with all my body armor and my gun belt, became very heavy holding this small child, so that’s when I decided to sit down on the bed and make it easier for him and me,” the officer explained.

Hurst let the boy sleep right there because he was finally feeling comfortable.

James Hurst/ Facebook

Hurst, who served in the U.S. Army as a Black Hawk crew chief before joining the police force, emphasized that his actions were nothing special. “I didn’t run into a burning building,” he told Today, “I was just there for a child.”

He added that compassion is a daily part of policing in Savannah, even if it isn’t always photographed.

“We do this type of stuff every day. It felt great I was able to be there for him,” Hurst said. “We have 605 officers that would do the same thing.”

The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department later confirmed the child is safe and in stable condition. The case has been turned over to the Georgia Department of Family & Children’s Services for review.

King Charles and Prince William’s furious rows ‘echo through palace walls’

Last year, King Charles disclosed with the public his cancer diagnosis, sharing that he’s been receiving treatments in London.

While he cleared his schedules and postponed certain royal engagements, it was mostly his wife Camilla and his son William who stepped in for him.

Although not much is known of the type of cancer King Charles has been diagnosed with, the public was glad he returned to his royal duties after spending certain time out of the spotlight.

Back in April, a source close to the family told Woman’s Day that Charles has long ago “came to terms” with the fact that he won’t be ruling the country for many years.

The source added: “As devastating as it’s been, he’s had to step away from some of his plans or leave them to William. He has no choice.

“Cancer has changed him, made him reassess what’s important, and there’s no one he’d rather spend his time with than Camilla. Stepping aside could be what gives him more time with her.”

Samir Hussein – Pool/WireImage

However, while the relationship between Charles and William appears picture-perfect from the outside, an insider reveals that there is more to it than meets the eye.

According to royal expert Rebecca English, staff have overheard arguments between King Charles and Prince William so tense they penetrated the “thickest castle walls.”

“Harsh words have been exchanged in the past, angry rows permeating even the thickest castle walls, sometimes within earshot of staff,” English wrote for the Daily Mail.

“There have also been clashes of opinion on the professional side, such as the retention of ivory treasures in the Royal Collection (William wants to burn them, Charles believes they should be kept as historical artefacts), which not so long ago resulted in a ‘frank’ exchange.”

Shutterstock

Moreover, a royal aide recently told the Standard that Charles and William have a “tricky relationship that goes far back.”

They added that William “never phones his Dad directly but has to schedule a call through the King’s private office.”

While that might sound concerning, Rebecca English pointed out that, according to her sources, these angry rows haven’t escalated in recent years.

Katie Nicholl explains that for William, the day he ascends to the throne is drawing nearer.

“The crown will never have felt closer to the Prince than it does now,” she told The Mirror. “His father’s illness has been a stark reminder that it’s his turn next, and it may not be too far in the distant future.”

Samir Hussein

“William has mastered that all-important skill of diplomacy, and though he’s visited many politically sensitive areas like the Middle East and Ukraine, he’s never been accused of being overtly political,” she added. “The aides I’ve spoken to and those who know him best say he is absolutely prepared.”

Royal commentator Sally Bedell Smith told People that King Charles has to “accept limitations” during his cancer treatment, The Sun reported.

“Although the King is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment,” Bedell Smith said. “As a result, William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected.”

According to experts, “abdication would be a significant departure from all tradition.”

Hilary Fordwich, a royal expert, argued with Fox News that when the last time a monarch abdicated, Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, Edward VIII, it triggered “a constitutional crisis.”

British royal broadcaster Jonathan Sacerdoti told Fox that it is “unlikely” that King Charles will step away from his royal duties any more than “strictly necessary.”

“Of course, he is not a youngster, and the example of his late mother’s older years shows that, when needed, the royal family can accommodate sharing the burden, if necessary,” Sacerdoti said. “But just as Queen Elizabeth II continued to work well into her old age, and even when she was not entirely healthy, I am sure that the king will want to do the same and keep going as much as is possible.”

“King Charles will never abdicate through his own volition, especially as he has waited a lifetime to become monarch,” royal expert Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital.

Things you should never keep on top of your fridge

Shortage space is a common issue in many studio apartments because there seems to never be enough of it.

People tend to get creative by stacking items wherever they can find a flat surface, and this is especially true when it comes to their kitchens.

A popular spot would be the top of a refrigerator. If ever a space cried out for extra storage, it is this one — big, flat and convenient. Honestly, almost anything can be found there, from boxes of cereal, to kitchen gadgets and cookbooks.

However, the question is just how safe is it to use the fridge as a shelf? Although it seems convenient, this appliance creates heat and vibrations that are not ideal for storing certain things.

For example, heavy items stored in a high-up location can pose dangers, and combustible items should not be placed in close proximity to a heat source. What’s more, the visual clutter can make a kitchen feel more chaotic than it really is.

Ultimately, as appealing as it can be to view the refrigerator as free storage space, it may not be the best option.

So, what are some things you should avoid placing and keeping on the top of your fridge?

  • candles: they melt and can warp.
  • electronics and batteries: the heat or vibration can cause leaks, corrosion, and damage.
  • bread & baked goods: the fridge’s heat makes them go stale faster.
  • cooking oils: olive and vegetable oils go rancid quicker with temperature changes so it’s best to keep them in the pantry.
  • heavy objects: excess weight strains the compressor, reducing the fridge’s lifespan (so no heavy pots, books, or decorative plants).
  • medications: heat decreases their effectiveness, making this a risky storage spot.
  • produce: fruits and vegetables spoil faster on top of the fridge.
  • coffee: flavor and aroma are ruined by heat and humidity.
  • wine: heat and vibration disrupt aging.
  • plastic containers: some plastics leach chemicals when heated, so best avoided.
  • delicate glass and crockery: may shatter or break under vibration.
  • electronics chargers or cables: prolonged heat can damage internal wiring.

The good thing is that you can always consider other storage possibilities such as wall-mounted shelves and mini-organizers that will help you keep your kitchen organized and without clutter.

When I answered the knock, police officers were standing there — ‘This can’t be right’

On the outside, the Johnsons led what many would describe as a perfect life. Michael, the husband, was a man many admired. He was handsome and very successful, providing for his wife Emily and their daughter Sophia.

But behind closed doors, it was a completely different story.

That morning, Michael took a three-day business trip. Before leaving, he handed Emily $100 bill. “Household money for three days. Keep receipts. I’ll review them when I return,” he said and slammed the door.

Emily was a stay-at-home mom who never really went out. Her whole life revolved around her family and keeping the house clean.

That evening, at 9 pm sharp, Michael called home. “Where are you?” he asked Emily.

“At home, going over Sophia’s homework,” she said with a shaky voice.

“Prove it. Send me a photo. Now.”

Emily did as asked, while her daughter looked at her with pity, because this wasn’t the first time Michael to be asking for proof about everything Emily did, nor it seems it would be the last.

At 2 am, Emily was woken up by her phone. It was Michael. He called her minutes before that, but she didn’t hear the phone ringing right away.

“Why so late?” he asked angrily. “I’m sorry, I was sleeping,” Emily whispered.

“Write a five-hundred-word apology. Email it. Explain your delay and promise to improve,” Michael demanded before he cut the conversation short.

And right then and there, in the dark, Emily started typing a letter of apology because she didn’t pick the phone on the first ring.

A faint voice drifted from the other side of the room: “Mom? Are you okay?” Sophia was awake, watching.

“I’m fine,” Emily answered. “Dad’s just concerned.”

She tried to convince herself it was love, yet the thought felt hollow, bitter.

After some time, she finished the letter in which she explained that she deeply regretted her slow response, with a promise to strive to be more vigilant…

Wednesday night, Michael called again, demanding the house and his study be spotless when he arrived.

When the call ended, Emily trembled. Was it the misplaced receipt? Her delayed response? Just yesterday, she had knocked a pen off his desk. He would notice. He always noticed.

The following morning, there was a knock on the door, but it wasn’t Michael but two officers.

“This can’t be right,” Emily whispered.

One shook his head. “Your daughter reached out.”

It was then that Sophia stepped forward with tears in her eyes. “Mom,” she whispered, trembling, “I need to tell you something…”

“Oh, Sophia, what did you do?” Emily asked, obviously scared of the outcome of the situation.

“Your daughter has reported severe domestic control and emotional abuse. We need to investigate.”

“Domestic… abuse? No!” Emily said automatically. “Michael’s a wonderful man—”

“Mom, don’t lie,” Sophia pleaded. “I hear everything—the calls at night, the money, how he tracks you. I know.”

Sophia even handed the officers an envelope with a bunch of evidence that showed just how manipulative her father was towards her mother. There were photos, screenshots, audio files, evidence of tracking devices. It was all there.

At that moment, Michael returned. “What’s the problem officers,” he asked.

“You are under arrest for emotional abuse,” the officer said, apprehending Michael.

“Emily,” he said, “tell them this is a misunderstanding. We’re a loving couple.”

Emily hesitated because she was afraid, but then her daughter encouraged her to tell the truth. “No,” she said. “This is not love. You don’t control someone you love.”

Sophia felt relieved. “Mom, thank you for standing up for yourself,” she said as tears rolled down her eyes. “Now we can finally be happy.”

The word about Michael’s behavior spread, and Emily and Sophia received the much-needed help.

They could finally start their lives over, without Michael in their lives.

Discover the power of this miracle fruit

Guava is one of the most delicious fruits known for its rich nutrient content. Guava trees are native to Central America and produce a round or oval fruit that has light green or yellow skin and seeds that can be eaten.

The fruit and the leaves are both edible—the former is often consumed raw as a snack, while the latter are typically boiled into an herbal tea or taken as a supplement.

Guava fruits and leaves are high in vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber, and antioxidants that may help heart health, digestion, blood sugar regulation, immunity, and general wellbeing, Healthline notes.

Guava thrives in both dry and humid tropical areas and is a powerhouse of a fruit when it comes to health and wellbeing. Guava contributes to “healthy weight” as well as other important body systems.

A balanced diet that includes guava in any form would not only be a tasty but also a healthy option to include in daily servings.

According to research, guava may:

1. Help lower blood sugar levels

A 2022 study suggests that guava leaf extract improved blood sugar levels, long-term blood sugar control, and insulin resistance in animals. The effect is the same at humans, another study reveals.

The fruit is diabetic-friendly with a low glycemic index that helps prevent blood sugar spikes, and supports better glucose control.

2. Boost Heart Health

Thanks to its potassium, fiber, and antioxidants, which help regulate blood pressure, cholesterol, and reduce oxidative stress, consuming guava can support heart health.

The leaf extract may also lower LDL cholesterol, raise HDL cholesterol, and improve overall cardiovascular health.

3. Improve Your Digestive System

Dietary fiber is essential for a healthy gut, and guavas are an excellent source of it. As such, they help prevent constipation and aid bowel movement.

4. Promote Weight Loss

Guavas are rich in fiber but low in calories, and on top of that, they are rich in vitamins and minerals, so doesn’t that sound like the perfect snack?

5. Help Boost Your Immunity

Not only is guava rich in Vitamin C, but it provides four times more of it than oranges.

In fact, a single guava fruit provides more than double the reference daily intake (45 mg) for vitamin C, and it is a well-known fact that this vitamin plays crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system, Healthline notes.

Further, guava is also good for your skin thanks to its antioxidants, as well as for your vision because of the amounts of Vitamin A it contains.

You can eat it raw or you can use the leaves to make yourself a nice cup of tea.

Warning signs of a heart attack?

World Health Organization reports ischaemic heart disease to be the leading cause of death worldwide, with the number of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases in 2019 being 8.9 million.

According to research, in the days or months leading up to a heart attack, people experience certain symptoms known as prodromal symptoms.

A research published in The National Library of Medicine, states that the prodromal symptoms are often overlooked by patients and primary clinicians.

Some of those symptoms “include chest pain, chest heaviness, chest burning, palpitations, fatigue, sleep disturbance, shortness of breath (SOB), dizziness, anxiety, sudden heat or cold, back pain, and vomiting.”

1. Fatigue

Being extremely tired, sleepy, exhausted or lacking energy to perform even the slightest of tasks can be a sign of fatigue. One of the reasons it may affect a person are the lowered levels of blood that go to the heart. This usually takes place when arteries get narrowed. Fatigue can easily happen if someone experiences heart issues.

2. Shortness of breath

The shortness of breath happens when the lungs don’t get the appropriate levels of oxygen needed for a proper function of the body. If you or someone you know experiences shortness of breath it is for the best to consult a doctor because it may be a sign of a potential heart attack. As per WebMD, “shortness of breath and feeling tired can be signs of [heart failure.]”

Heart failure refers to the heart’s inability to pump blood around the body properly.

3. Weakness

If you start experiencing weakness all of a sudden because of a an unknown reason your body might want to remind you to take things slowly and reconsider your lifestyle.

4. Dizziness and Cold Sweats

Both dizziness and cold sweats can be a result of poor circulation, something that must not be ignored.

5. Flu or Cold-like Symptoms

A great number of people who have experienced heart attack say that they developed flu-like symptoms mere days before the attack took place.

6. Chest Pressure

A common symptom of heart attack is the chest pressure one might experience. This pressure will constantly increase until the attack itself happens.

7. Swollen Feet

If you have congestive heart failure, one or both of your heart’s lower chambers lose their ability to pump blood effectively. As a result, blood can back up in your legs, ankles and feet, causing edema.

Princess Diana’s ex-chauffeur breaks 30 year silence with huge claim

Twenty-eight years after the passing of Princess Diana, the public still speculates about the exact cause that led to the tragic accident.

The truth is that ever since the world learned of her, Lady Di was under the spotlight. The paparazzi followed her every move, and according to many, pushed her to her death.

She lost her life after she and her partner Dodi Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, her driver Henri Paul, and her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones crashed the Mercedes in the Pont de I’Alma tunnel in Paris while trying to escape the paparazzi.

Mark Cuthbert/UK Press via Getty Images

Xavier Gourmelon was one of the first responders who came to the scene after the tragic crash. He spoke of the day and revealed what the Princess’ final words were.

As reported by The Independent, Gourmelon said: “The car was in a mess and we just dealt with it like any road accident.”

He then continued, “For me this was simply a banal traffic accident, one of many that emergency services have to deal with and it was the usual causes, speed and a drunk driver…

“I could see she had a slight injury to her right shoulder but, other than that, there was nothing significant. There was no blood on her at all. I held her hand and told her to be calm and keep still, I said I was there to help and reassured her.”

As she was still conscious when he approached her to help her, the Princess said: “My God, what’s happened?”

Shutterstock

Today, nearly three decades after the world lost their princess, Diana’s former chauffeur, Steve Davies, breaks silence saying he believes she would still be alive had he not lost his job.

“I’d have taken a bullet for Diana. My job was my life,” Davies said, according to The Sun.

“I was always there for her. I went from having the dream job to having to start again from scratch.”

Reflecting on the night that ended her life, he added: “All I know is that if life had taken a different trajectory, if I’d been driving her that night in Paris, she would still be here today… because I would’ve kept her safe.”

Davies said he only learned why he was dismissed after watching The Crown, which revealed Martin Bashir had falsely accused him of leaking stories to the press in order to gain Princess Diana’s trust before their infamous interview. Former protection officer Ken Wharfe later suggested she might still be alive if different choices had been made.

The Pont de l’Alma tunnel where Princess Diana was fatally injured in the car crash. Above the tunnel you can now see the Flame of Freedom of Liberty, now a tribute to the Princess/ Shutterstock

“The one thing that would have saved Diana’s life that night would have been if they’d kicked out the chauffeur and for Rees-Jones to have driven,” he stated.

“But he couldn’t do that because he couldn’t speak to Dodi Fayed — he told him what to do. And that’s a shame, because had Rees-Jones taken that command, had he taken that decision to boot out Henri Paul, you and I would not be having this discussion.”

According to Wharfe, Diana’s choice to dismiss her Scotland Yard security team — which came after her separation from Prince Charles in 1992 — was perhaps the most avoidable mistake of all.

“She said, ‘You’ve always been great with advice. If there’s one piece of advice you’d give me, what would it be?’” Whare recalled his conversation with the late princess.

His response was clear: “I urge you, I urge you, not to lose the Scotland Yard security because we have given you that freedom, we’ve broken rules to allow you to have the normality that you crave for, and there’s no reason why that shouldn’t continue.”

According to Wharfe, had Queen Elizabeth insisted Diana keep the security, she would have probably agreed.

Young dad passes away suddenly, doctors make shocking discovery in his lungs

Dylan Jay Watts, a 28-year-old father from Broulee, a small coastal town on Australia’s New South Wales coast, was diagnosed with fatal infection on his lungs.

The bacterium left this young dad with staggering 72 irreparable holes in his lungs that led to his sudden passing just days before he was to turn 29.

Dylan was described as a devoted father who loved life. When his son was born, he posted a heartfelt post, saying, “Words cannot describe how much more purpose I feel with you in my life!”

Speaking of Dylan, Cheyenne O’Brien, a family friend, reflected on the situation, saying that despite Dylan’s prolonged illness, his passing came as a shock to his loved ones.

“Although the 28-year-old had been gravely ill in the weeks and days leading to his passing, his loved ones were shocked by his death,” she said.

Dylan’s sister, Caitlyn, shared with Daily Mail Australia, “I found out in July of last year how severe things had begun to get, that he had holes in his lungs and had been in hospital for three weeks after coughing up blood.” She added, “His doctor told him if he hadn’t got in so soon, that could have killed him.”

Sadly, Dylan battled constant health problems—coughing, reflux, fatigue, and mental struggles. When basic treatments failed to help him, he finally sought expert care in early 2024, after a lung hemorrhage put him in the hospital for three weeks.

His sister said that at that point, he was taking so many meds that it could fill an entire backpack.

“He was severely unwell yet fighting for his health and optimistic about some kind of recovery,” Caitlyn said.

However, the condition got to severe that doctors told him he wouldn’t have make it past his 30th birthday. Sadly, he didn’t even got to celebrate his 29th.

The GoFundMe page the family set up to help them with the funeral costs read, “Let this be a reminder that those you love can be gone in an instant. So, hold them close today and tell them you love them. There is a fragility in all of us.

“His memory and his story will be remembered by many who loved him, and he will be forever missed.”

Bear Caesar freed after years in cruel torture vest

Imagine spending most, if not all, of your life chained, unable to see the beauties this world has to offer. We can all agree that’s not much of a life, right? The sad reality is that many animals endure this very fate.

Bear Caesar was held on a bile farm, in which she lived in a tiny cage with her gallbladder drained around the clock. Strapped into a metal vest, she could hardly move as she suffered constant pain, injuries and psychological trauma. The bile taken from her was sold for use in traditional medicine, a fate, sadly, shared with may bears.

Luckily, after years of suffering abuse, Caesar was freed from her captors in 2004.

“It’s the worst imaginable bile farm torture,” the organization that freed Caesar, said about the torture vest.

Over time, Caesar was able to regain some strength and turn into a majestic bear.

“Caesar’s scars have all but disappeared and today she is an astonishingly beautiful (and formidable) bear,” Animals Asia wrote back in 2016.

She enjoyed digging, swimming, and tanning, particularly in the pleasant, chilly fall weather.

“She has now spent a dozen happy years with Animals Asia in Chengdu, enjoying swims in the sunshine as well as indulging her natural digging instincts – particularly when the weather cools in the autumn,” Animals Asia said.

“Seeing a bear shake themselves like this is always a moment full of awe – they’re such incredibly beautiful, powerful animals and none more so than Caesar,” Nic Field, director of the group’s China bear and vet team, said in a statement. “To see her out in the sunshine – a dozen years on from her rescue – it’s hard to imagine her existence back then.”

While Caesar escaped this fate, countless other animals are not so fortunate.

About 10,000 bears are still held in captivity in China. His story should motivate us all to work together to end their suffering.

Although Caesar’s rescue couldn’t undo years of suffering, it gave her a brief taste of freedom, but sadly, the damage from years on the bile farm caught up with her, and she eventually died from a tumor caused by repeated gallbladder extractions.

Caesar’s suffering is a call to action. Every bear saved matters, and we cannot stop until all are free from bile farms.

Science backs it up: 3 fruits that fight fatty liver, regulate sugar and cholesterol

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), also called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is a common condition where excess fat builds up in the liver. This condition is strongly linked to being overweight and can often be improved with healthier lifestyle habits, according to NHS.

Some of the symptoms of a fatty liver are tiredness, feeling generally unwell, and experiencing discomfort under the ribs on the right side. However, many people don’t realize they have because most times, it comes with no symptoms at all.

The chances of developing NAFLD increase if you carry extra weight around the stomach, have type 2 diabetes, PCOS, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, live an inactive lifestyle, or are over the age of 50.

Normal vs. Fatty Liver/ ArtPictures

Some research suggest that diet rich in specific fruits reduces liver fat by 10-15% in 12 weeks.

Below are three scientifically backed fruits for fighting fatty liver disease, regulating blood sugar, and supporting healthy cholesterol, along with easy ways to incorporate them into your diet.

Blueberries: Little Giants Against Fatty Liver Disease

Blueberries are not just a burst of deep color and flavor: they contain anthocyanins, potent antioxidants that protect the liver from oxidative stress, help combat metabolic deviations, and maintain gut health.

One study found that eating blueberries daily was associated with reduced liver fat in people with NAFLD, as seen through imaging. The anthocyanins in blueberries could also reduce lipogenesis (fat formation) and increase lipid oxidation by liver cells. A number of human and animal studies also support their use in glucose regulation (by increasing insulin sensitivity) and, to a limited extent, the improvement of lipid profiles such as a mild decrease in LDL cholesterol.

Mechanistically, it seems that anthocyanins might be involved in the modulation of enzymes and signaling pathways associated with fat and glucose metabolism, leading to better insulin action and cholesterol homeostasis, such as lower LDL cholesterol.

Blueberries protect the liver from oxidant damage, which initiates NAFLD, by neutralizing free radicals. They also reduce systemic inflammation, which is good for metabolism and heart health.

Throw ½ cup (or about 75 g) of fresh or frozen blueberries into your morning rotation—blend them with spinach and Greek yogurt for a sweet smoothie, or use them as a topping for oatmeal.

For a snack, you can combine them with some almonds (or other nuts).

Try to eat blueberries at least 4–5 times per week for more reliable results.

Whenever possible, select organic blueberries to limit exposure to pesticides.

Steer clear of sweetened or strained blueberry juices—they lose the fiber and can cause blood sugar to rise.

Apples: Fiber and Polyphenols for a Healthy Liver

The apple, despite its status as a household staple found in kitchens worldwide, is much more than a regular fruit. High in pectin (a soluble fiber) and polyphenols, it supports liver function and helps maintain major metabolic markers in check.

Studies suggest that regular apple consumption may be associated with lower levels of liver fat and triglycerides, particularly in people who are overweight. Pectin binds to fat and cholesterol in the gut, preventing their absorption, while polyphenols such as quercetin shield liver cells from oxidative damage. Apples may also help control blood sugar by slowing the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates.

Even beyond this liver-friendly link, apples help with satiety and easing the burden of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, which is a feather in their health cap. With a low glycemic index, they make a savvy choice for individuals with diabetes, while their impact on increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (“good”) cholesterol benefits cardiovascular health.

Eat a whole apple (skin and all, since that’s where most of the polyphenols are) as a snack or light dessert. Bake apples with cinnamon for a healthy treat, or grate apple into carrot and walnut salads. Try to eat one or two apples a day; opt for high-fiber types such as Granny Smith or Fuji. Avoid overly sweet compotes, which leach out micronutrients.

Avocados: Healthy Fats for Your Metabolism

Avocados offer plenty of monounsaturated fats, fiber, and vitamin E, making them an important part of any liver-supporting and heart-healthy eating plan.

Studies have shown that daily consumption of avocados can lead to improved liver and metabolic health. For example, research in animal models published by Frontiers in Pharmacology (2022) discovered that supplementation with avocado oil improved mitochondrial function, decreased measures of oxidative stress, and reduced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Furthermore, a study published in Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice (2024) noted that avocado consumption increased the body’s insulin sensitivity, leading to more stable blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. A study in the Journal of the American Heart Association (2025) also showed that eating an avocado a day as part of a moderate-fat diet slightly decreased LDL cholesterol in overweight and obese adults.

In addition to their macronutrient content, avocados offer other health benefits. They are rich in vitamin E, which provides antioxidant protection to liver cells and may help lower inflammation linked with NAFLD. The fiber in avocados helps keep you full and can contribute to weight management, one of the most important strategies for controlling (and potentially even reversing) NAFLD.

Incorporate ½ of an avocado into your daily routine by layering it on whole-wheat toast with tomato, tossing it into salads with spinach and lemon, or pureeing it into a dip with plain yogurt. Eat ripe avocados (they should be firm but give slightly under pressure) 3–5 times per week. Make sure to moderate portion size, since half an avocado contains around 120 kcal.

Erika Kirk makes major announcement during rare ‘Charlie Kirk Show’ appearance

Following the tragic passing of Charlie Kirk, the right-wing activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, his widow, Erika Kirk is continuing his legacy.

Kirk was shot in the neck on Wednesday, September 10, during a debate event while speaking before a large crowd at Utah Valley University (UVU).

His alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, has since been arrested and “faces single counts of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and violent offense in the presence of a child, along with two counts each of obstruction of justice and witness tampering,” People reported.

Charlie Kirk and Erika shared two children, a daughter, 2, and a son, just 16 months old.

Instagram

The widowed mother of two addressed the nation days following her husband’s passing, thanking the emergency services who had done everything to save Charlie. She then extended her gratitude to Vice President JD Vance and his wife for bringing Charlie’s coffin home.

She also thanked President Donald Trump, whom Charlie Kirk supported and admired.

Now, Erika Kirk, who took the role of a CEO of her late husband’s non-profit organization, appeared on The Charlie Kirk Show.

The Charlie Kirk Show is not going anywhere,” Erika Kirk said. “My husband’s voice will live on. The show will go on. We will have rotating hosts, rotating casts, rotating people coming on. It is going to be continually the north star of the conservative movement, of the voice of the youth, of the voice of the base, and that will not end.”

Instagram

She then announced her plans of continuing Charlie’s tour through college campuses nationwide, named the “American Comeback Tour.”

“We’ll never be silenced,” Erika continued. “That’s why continuing his platform in a beautiful, honorable way will reinforce that he will never be silenced. My husband’s voice will go on.”

Turning Point USA is believed to be the “largest Conservative student movement” in the US with groups at more than 3,000 universities and high schools, and Erika Kirk said it is moving “full steam ahead.”

At her late husband’s memorial in Glendale, Arizona, Erika gave a heartfelt speech. She recalled seeing Charlie Kirk at the hospital after his death and sharing her decision to forgive his killer.

“My husband, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life. That man, that young man, I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did and it is what Charlie would do,” Erika Kirk said.

“The answer to hate is not hate,” she added. “The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

I bought food for a poor old man and his dog – what I found on my doorstep the next morning shocked me

I was seven months pregnant and broke when I saw an old man at the grocery store counting crumpled dollars in an attempt to buy dog food over a meal for himself.

All the money I made as a part-time at the pharmacy went on rent, gas, and doctor visits.

Until then, that Tuesday was just another day of trying to figure out what I could truly afford, until I saw the man struggling. He was working some of the nuts around in his basket, trying to get under $15.50 for a pound, while the dog settled beside him and waited. “Just take out the milk,” he said. “How much is it now?” The cashier rescanned everything. “$17.43, sir.”

He put the bread back. “Check it again.”

The line behind him grew. A man stood in a puffy coat muttering about being late for work, and a woman tapped her foot impatiently. The store security came over, “Sorry, sir, you’re not supposed to have a dog in here.”

Something inside me snapped. I wheeled my cart forward. “Put it all back in,” I told the cashier. “Everything he took out. Ring it up with mine.” The man turned slowly toward me. “Miss, that’s too kind. I can’t let you do that.”

“You’re not letting me do anything,” I said, “I’m doing this because I want it.”

He glanced at me. “Seven months. And me and Bean might need someone to do the same for us one day,” I said.

The cashier began to scan again, and my card cleared. I even threw in a rotisserie chicken to his bag. The man accepted the groceries with great care. “I’m Graham,” he said finally. “Most folks call me Gray. And this is Pippin.”

“Riley and Bean, speaking,” I said, pointing to my belly.

He nodded and smiled, then made his way out the door. I completed my purchases in a fog, attempting to make sense of what just occurred. The following morning, I awoke to a curious sound on my porch. I was to open the door and then I gasped. There was a silver Subaru Outback, shiny and new-looking with a huge red bow on the hood. At my feet was a box stuffed with groceries, baby products and a massive bag of diapers. There was an envelope for me.

Gray’s letter explained everything. He wasn’t poor. He and Pippin had continued Marietta’s tradition in the years since: entering shops pretending to be down on their luck, testing whether kindness was still alive.

“Yesterday was Marietta’s birthday,” he wrote. “You have been the person to prove her faith in people was vindicated. The car’s yours, Riley, free and clear. I went so far as to put a car seat base in for Bean, and you get a grocery and baby supply prepaid account for the next year.”

I sat on the porch, sobbing. I thought I was helping a poor old man and his dog, but it turned out Gray was the one doing me a favor.

“You had Marietta’s heart; her spirit and you have the idea that we’re all just walking each other home. Now it’s you who must be looked after,” the letter said.

Now, as I wait for Bean to make his debut into the world, I carry with me a conviction that throughout this terrible and yet remarkable year, I never quite mustered: Love persists.

“Gray, thanks,” I whispered in the Subaru. “Thank you, Marietta. So thank you, Pippin, for rocking my world.”

Scientists accidentally discovered a new organ in the human body

Who would have thought that even after centuries of research, there would still be incredible things to be discovered about the human body?

Believe it or not, it was only recently that scientists discovered an organ in the human body no one had ever noticed before, and the most amazing thing of all is that it had been hiding in plain sight.

One would wonder how is that even possible due to the fact that huge number of people are in and out of MRI machines every single day, and we know these machines can capture incredibly precise images. Yet, this organ, which comes in pairs and is located in your face, slipped completely under scientists’ and doctors’ radar for so long.

The discovery was made by a team of oncologists from the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam conducting cancer research.

They accidentally found a set of glands deep in the upper part of the throat they named “tubarial glands.”

During the research, the oncologists carried out CT and PET scans on patients who had been injected with radioactive glucose, which, in theory, makes tumors appear by glowing on the scans.

While performing the scans, the team noticed two areas in the patients’ heads glowing more than expected. It was then that they uncovered a previously unknown set of salivary glands tucked away there.

Netherlands Cancer Institute

The role of these glands is to “lubricate and moisten the area of the throat behind the nose and mouth.”

While the scientists were surprised the glands had remained undetected for decades, Dr Wouter Vogel, radiation oncologist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, explained it’s probably because they are so tiny and only discovered due to “very sensitive imaging.” Another thing about these glands is that they are not easily accessible.

“People have three sets of large salivary glands, but not there,” Dr Vogel said.

“As far as we knew, the only salivary or mucous glands in the nasopharynx are microscopically small, and up to 1,000 are evenly spread out throughout the mucosa. So, imagine our surprise when we found these,” he added.

Scientists hope that the discovery of the tubarial salivary glands will help reduce side effects from cancer treatments and radiotherapy, which can put pressure on these glands. Now that they are known, researchers aim to figure out how to protect them during treatment, allowing radiotherapists to avoid this area and prevent complications.

Man has stroke after bathing right after meal: 3 mistakes you shouldn’t make

A stroke occurs when the blood flow to a portion of the brain is interrupted, leading to the death of brain cells. This injury can influence bodily functions and may alter emotions and cognition. The impact of a stroke varies based on its location in the brain and the extent of the affected area, Stroke Association explains.

As we grow older, our arteries tend to stiffen and narrow, increasing the likelihood of blockages. Nonetheless, various medical conditions and lifestyle choices can accelerate this deterioration, heightening the risk of experiencing a stroke.

According to Stroke Association, the primary factors that lead to stroke include hight blood pressure, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, elevated cholesterol levels, age, lifestyle choices, family history, ethnicity, and other factors.

A common misconception about stroke is that it only affects the elderly. Truth is more and more young people are affected by it.

Recognizing the signs of a stroke in yourself or others is crucial. The FAST test is a useful tool for identifying these symptoms.

Certain everyday activities you do, and which appear harmless, may affect our well-being and increase the risk of stroke.

1. Taking a Bath Immediately After Eating

Taking a bath is a daily activity for most people, but the case of a man who suffered from stroke after taking a bath right after having a meal urged doctors to advise people against doing the same mistake.

Following a meal, blood flows to the stomach to process food, and if you bathe immediately after a meal, blood diverts to the skin instead, which weakens digestion and stresses the cardiovascular system — in severe cases, this imbalance can cause dizziness, stroke, or even heart failure.

Always wait around 30 to 60 minutes after eating in order to have bath.

2. Engaging in Strenuous Physical Activity

A lot of people believe that exercising after a meal aids digestion, but it can actually do more harm than good. When exercising right after eating, your body has to divide blood and energy flow between the working muscles and digestive tract, which could cause a distraction in circulation, bloating or cramps, and even stroke.

Vigorous exercise also stresses the heart, and increases risk for people with heart problems. To play it safe, you should wait 1 to 2 hours after a meal before engaging in any strenuous activity.

3. Drinking Excessive Water Right After a Meal

Water is essential for the human body, but large quantities after a meal can disrupt digestion. Too much water can dilute stomach acids needed to break down foods, and can cause indigestion as well as bloating. For best digestion and to avoid discomfort, sip on water in moderation before or following meals, instead of having a large glass at once.

Our habits and lifestyle choices, as well as our diet, play an important role in keeping our well-being in check.
