The Full Flower Moon, which raises tonight, offers a breathtaking vision for skywatchers worldwide.
It will be fully illuminated May 12, at 12:56 p.m. EDT (17:56 GMT).
The term “Flower Moon” comes from Native American and European traditions of giving each full moon a seasonal name. So, May’s abundance of wildflowers inspired this month’s moon to be given this flowery name.
The Micromoon, a phenomenon occurring with the Full Flower Moon, is the opposite of supermoon.
Tonight’s moon is one of the few micromoons visible throughout the year. At this point, the moon is farthest from the Earth and appears around 14% smaller and 30% dimmer than a supermoon.
The Full Flower Moon will be visible without a telescope or binocular, all you need is a clear view of the south-eastern horizon.

In case you miss it, don’t worry, because it will be also visible for a few more nights.
According to BBC Sky at Night Magazine, the 2025 Flower Moon will rise in the southeast from the UK.
“It will be beneath the constellation Libra and won’t rise very high in the sky, meaning a clear horizon will be of benefit. The Moon will then work its way across the southern part of the sky, before setting in the southwest in the early hours around dawn.”
This May’s Flower Moon falls under the sign of Scorpio, ruler of the eighth house, bringing themes of power, passion, secrecy, and rebirth.
So far, 2025 has offered an abundance of astronomical events and phenomena, including the Eta Aquariids meteor shower associated with the Comet Halley.
Further, February saw an unusual alignment of seven planets—Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Mercury.
Along with the Flower Moon, the stars Spica and Arcturus will shine above it, and the constellation Libra will rise to its left.
What’s more, on May 13, as the moon sets, Venus and Saturn will be visible in the east, and Jupiter and Mars will light up the western sky as the moon rises.

With this shift of societal perception, a number of athletes who are seeking ways to maximise performance are exploring the benefits smoking weed offers.
The question that raises is whether cannabis truly enhances athletic performance and overall exercise experience.
Cannabis is known for its psychoactive effects, especially the compound THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
When consumed, it triggers a release of dopamine, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, leading to feelings of euphoria and relaxation.
The effects of cannabis on exercise are different for different people.
While some report enhanced focus during exercises with the help of the weed, others experience impaired performance.
Jessamyn Stanley, a yoga teacher, body positivity advocate, and writer, highlights the mental advantages of using cannabis before exercise. “Using weed before a workout is a great way to get out of your head about what’s to come,” she explains.
Since exercise is challenging for many, consuming weed can ease the mind and help individuals approach workout with a more positive mindset.
Herbreports of a 1975 study that explored how smoking cannabis could affect prolonged physical activities like cycling.
The results showed that cannabis users (18.2mg THC) experienced reduced cycling endurance. At first, this was linked to higher heart rates, but that was later challenged as cannabis consumption elevates heart rates.
Another potential benefit of consuming cannabis is pain relief and inflammation reduction.
A survey in Nature found that around 70% of people who consume cannabis said being high made workouts more enjoyable, and cannabis users exercised longer than non-users. However, the findings are limited and observational, meaning they only show correlation, not causation.
Some of the risks of smoking weed users need to consider are that THC can impair coordination and judgment and increase the risk of exercise-related injuries.

Logan, a 27-year old six-two inches tall professional swimmer, was returning from a freestyle swimming competition.
The flight from London to New York was about to last eight hours, enough time for him to rest before heading home. He planned to sleep through the flight and regain his energy so that he could go straight to his younger sister and tell her everything about the trip.
Since he booked his flight in the last minute, he ended up in economy class. Well, it wasn’t that it bothered him a great deal. He was just hoping to a safe and quiet flight back home.
When he located his seat, a woman in her 20s was already seated by the window. She smiled at him and said, “It looks like we’re going to be neighbors for some time.” Logan smiled back and nodded.
Everything seemed fine by that point, until a well dressed woman took the seat on Logan’s right side.
She arrived at the very last second and was visibly irritated. She struggled with her overstuffed bag and muttered as she tried to fit it under the seat.
When the flight attendant asked the passengers to fasten their seatbelts and put their tray tables up, everyone complied except for the woman. She started muttering again and rolled her eyes at the flight attendant who approached her and asked her to do what she was told.
As the plane took off, the woman started hitting the button uncontrollably, calling for the flight attendant.
“Yes, ma’am? What can I do for you?” the flight attendant asked.
The woman started yelling. “I hate this seat. How can I seat between these two huge people. Look at them!”
At that point, everyone could hear her words. To make things worse, people started staring.
“I need more room, right now. Look at this man’s legs, they are huge,” she continued sreaming.
The flight attendant told her there were no other seats available, but the woman pushed her and started going up and down the plane.
“I bought this seat. I can’t just sit here for eight hours all cramped up like a sardine.”
She spent the rest of the flight sighing, shifting in her seat, and nudging Logan as though the armrest belonged to her only.
At one point, she turned to Logan and yelled, “You should’ve booked a seat with more legroom. Why should you burden others?”
The yelling continued until the end of the flight, and the moment the pilot announced the landing will take place in 20 minutes, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got to her feet, searching through the overhead bin.
The flight attendant approached her and asked her to sit until they touched down, but the woman refused.
This forced the flight attendant to reach out for assistance from a fellow colleague.
It was then that the captain started speaking through the intercom. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We’re just about to touch down at JFK. Please stay seated and keep your seatbelts fastened at all times. Thank you.”
When the plane finally landed and everyone taxied to the gate, the woman ignored protocol, jumping up, grabbing her things, and nearly hitting Logan and the rest of the passengers. A flight attendant warned her, but she stepped into the aisle anyway — just as the captain emerged from the cockpit.
“Madam, please stay seated, you are making it hard for everyone.” Sadly, the woman wouldn’t listen to the captain either.
Eventually, the captain addressed the whole cabin, “Ladies and gentlemen, I want to express my gratitude for your patience during this flight. I’d like to take a moment to recognize someone who has truly made their mark in our midst. Let’s all give a big round of applause to the passenger in seat 29C—who decided to ignore the crew’s instructions and add a little extra thrill to our journey!”
Everyone started laughing, and the woman felt embarrassed, but it was something she deserved for her behavior.

As Trump started his speech, Brodkin threw some swastika-emblazoned golf balls around him and yelled: “Donald, here are the balls you ordered.”
“I’m very sorry Mr Trump and thank you,” he shouted, holding up the balls. “And thank you, I apologise. My bad.”
Brodkin was then taken away by the Scottish police who recognized him and “convinced Trump to not press charges.”
“I do have a criminal record, but also a lot to thank the Scottish police for – they were brilliant,” Nelson told The Scottish Sun.

Although cremation is still taboo in many cultures and religions, it has gained popularity over conventional funerals in recent years.
The truth is, however, that there are many misconceptions surrounding the process of cremation, which leads people to feel scared of it — but that fear simply comes from the unknown.
Lauren, a former funeral home worker who goes by @lovee.miss.lauren on TikTok, decided to walk her followers — over 2.5 million — through the process of cremation and bust a few common myths.
According to Lauren, the most common question people ask is, “How can I be certain that the ashes I receive truly belong to my loved one?”
She then explains the process from start to finish, stating that when the body is transferred to the Crematory, a metal plate displaying a specific ID number is placed on it. The plate remains with the body during the cremation. Following the process, the ashes are placed in a bag labeled with the correct identification, and a cremation certificate is issued containing the person’s name and registration number.
Some of the questions may sound strange, but they refer to real issues.
For example, someone wanted to know if a tampon is removed from the body if a woman dies while on a period.
Lauren explains that in most cases, autopsy is done before cremation and the tampon is removed especially if embalming is conducted. This, of course, is done with the family’s approval and adheres to strict protocols that ensure respect for the body.
Louise Singer, manager of Bramcote Bereavement Services in the UK, also opened up of the process of cremation. She explained that before the process starts, workers check the coffin for anything that can’t be cremated, such as pieces of metal or other tributes that can cause issues.
It is very important to ensure that the body doesn’t have a pacemaker fitted because it can easily explode under high heat and lift a 20-ton, seven-inch-thick cremation chamber into the air.
The temperature in the furnace is between 800 and 1,000 degrees Celsius and it takes around an hour and a half to completely burn.Workers check the progress through a spy hole.

Thomas, a renowned architect, believed his life was perfect. After all, he had accomplished everything he has ever dreamed of. He was married to his high-school sweetheart, Olivia, owned a nice house, and had a daughter, 3-month-old Emma, whom he adored.
That morning, Thomas woke up feeling more accomplished than ever — It was the day of baby Emma’s baptism.
When he looked at his sweet little girl, he knew that everything he and his wife went through to have her — the exhausting IVF treatments and long hospital stays — was all worth it.
While Thomas’ face spoke excitement, Olivia seemed distant, but he believed she was just stressed because of the upcoming ceremony.
“Is everything ready?” he asked her.
“Yes, everyone’s coming. The balloons are ready, the cake is in the kitchen… It’s going to be a lovely day,” Olivia answered, but because of some strange reason, the smile was lacking from her face.
Once at the church, family members, neighbors, and colleagues started arriving.
Emma was dressed in a lovely blue dress, matching her mom’s.
Priest James greeted everyone who had gathered to witness and celebrate baby Emma’s baptism. He took the baby in his hands, but just as he was about to start the ceremony, his hands started trembling.
“Is everything all right?” Thomas asked.
The priest looked at Thomas, and then at Olivia and the baby.
Finally, he was able to speak. “This child… She bears the Anderson birthmark,” Pasto James said. “This mark. It’s unique to the Anderson family line. My family line…”
Thomas was shocked. “Pastor James, it’s just a birthmark. Many babies have them. What are you trying to say?”
“This exact mark, in this exact place. It appears in every generation of my family,” Pastor James said.
At that moment, Olivia started crying, and Thomas knew something was terribly wrong.
He recalled that months ago, Pastor James’ brother, Andrew, returned to town. He was a counselor at the church and Olivia visited him to help her with the tough time she experienced with the fertility issues.
“No! It can’t be,” Thomas yelled and looked at his wife, but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t deny that Emily could not be his daughter. She just cried, and that was it.
At that moment, Thomas’ world shattered. He left the church and somehow found himself sitting on a bench an hour away. His phone rang uncontrollably, but he couldn’t answer. He wasn’t ready to accept the truth he had just heard, that his Emma wasn’t his.
It took some time before he was able to face Olivia, the woman he loved and trusted with all his heart.
She claimed that she and Andrew had only been together once. At that point, she was at her lowest. But that didn’t change the fact that she betrayed her husband and lied to him about his daughter.
Andrew knew the truth the entire time, but once he learned Olivia was carrying his child, he left town again. He did want to meet the little one when she was born, and they met once at the nearby park, but that was it.
Eventually, Thomas was able to forgive Olivia because he cared about Emma too much. He knew that fatherhood was more than just the DNA that child carried.
But the trust was broken, and their relationship was never the same.

German company Henkel recalled over 1,000 bottles of their shampoo brand Tec Italy Totale Shampoo due to fears of possible contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca, a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause infection of the eyes, skin, and nose.
Henkel warned that it had distributed the shampoo in New York and California but it may have reached additional states.
Tec Italy is available for online purchase to consumers from Europe.
According to a release by the manufacturer, the recalled shampoo “is packaged in a green plastic 33.81 fluid ounce/1 liter bottle, marked with the lot number 1G27542266 on the side and the UPC code 7501438375850.”
Henkel further explained that exposure to Klebsiella oxytoca can cause health effects in humans, including eye, nose and skin infections, with “additional reactions for consumers with immune-compromised conditions,” as reported by Fox News.

“To date, there have been no reports of user harm or injury related to these products,” Henkel said in the release.
“Consumers who experience symptoms, or have any medical questions associated with this recall, should consult a physician immediately.”
The bacteria is not harmful within the intestinal system. However, if it spreads to other parts of the body, such as the bloodstream, it can kill 10–20% of patients.
It can cause pneumonia-like symptoms including fever, chills, shortness of breath, and cough if it enters the body through other channels, such as the bloodstream.
The recall was classified as Class II, which denotes “a situation where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote or where use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
Those who have already purchased the shampoo contaminated with the bacteria should stop using it and return it where they bought it for a full refund, the company said.

A group photo shared on Reddit has gained a lot of attention, but not for the right reasons.
Namely, when the group of friends posed for the photo, they probably never imagined it would go viral, or that it would end up frightening so many people.
This seemingly innocent photo came with an unexpected twist.
At first glance, it looks just like a regular selfie meant to capture a moment of fun time during a hiking trip of six friends. However, there is something wrong with the picture.
The person who posted it on Reddit captioned it: “A friend of mine sent me this picture from his group of friends in Chile. At first, I didn’t notice anything unusual. But once you see it, you can’t unsee it.”

Upon closer examination of the photo, fellow Redditors started noticing a creepy face lurking among the friends. Someone who wasn’t part of the group and not even there when the photo was taken.
Eagle-eyed netizens spotted the creepy face hiding in the bottom left corner of the photo.
The face “squeezed” between the two women isn’t smiling like the rest of the group. What’s more, it stares out blankly from the shadows, giving chills to those who notice it.
“I am not exaggerating when I say that when I finally saw it, I got goosebumps and felt genuine fear,” one commenter confessed. “Wtf. I believe in ghosts again now.”

Robert Francis Prevost has become the 267th person to become Pope. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV.
Even before his name was announced, the crowd gathered in front of the St Peter’s Basilica chanted “Viva il Papa” or long live the Pope.
Leo, who was born in Chicago, is the first American to hold the position of the head of the Catholic church. Despite his place of birth, the Vatican described him as the second pope from the Americas (Francis was from Argentina).
His election brought renewed hope, especially because he is believed to share late Pope Francis’ values and views on a number of issues, including the poor, migration, and the environment, among the rest.

As Catholics celebrate Pope Leo XIV, a prophecy is casting a shadow on the future of the church.
A prophecy, known as the Prophecy of the Popes, claims there would be 112 popes after Malachy’s time — Saint Malachy was an Irish mystic who lived in the 12th century — with the last one being referred to as “Peter the Roman.”
According to some, Francis, who died on April 21 at the age of 88, could mark the 112th pope on that list, USA Today writes.
Josh Canning, director of Toronto’s Chaplaincy at the Newman Centre, dismissed the idea in 2013. He said, “I don’t know how you can connect Peter the Roman with Pope Francis.”
Fr. James Weiss, an Episcopal priest and professor at Boston College, dubbed the prophecy a forgery. “The prophecies are a forgery. I don’t believe there’s any credibility to them.”
Further, Weiss argues that the popes in the prophesy aren’t specifically names. On the contrary, they are referred to as to “swift bear” and “rose of Umbria.”
Medieval history professor Joëlle Rollo-Koster says there is not even evidence that Malachy wrote any prophecy whatsoever. ”As a historian, I am hardcore on the evidence, and that, for me, is the ultimate proof that Malachy did not utter prophecies or write prophecies,” she said.
The prophecy, no matter if one believes in it or not, doesn’t show any connection to Pope Leo XIV.

Identifying the warning signs of brain aneurysm can be challenging, yet medical professionals are trying to raise awareness of the consequences by discussing some of the symptoms of this life-threatening condition.
The Mayo Clinic states that “A brain aneurysm is a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain. It often looks like a berry hanging on a stem.
A brain aneurysm can leak or rupture, causing bleeding into the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).
Most often a ruptured brain aneurysm occurs in the space between the brain and the thin tissues covering the brain. This type of hemorrhagic stroke is called a subarachnoid hemorrhage.”
They further list some of the most common symptoms people should be aware of such as:
A sudden and severe headache (often described as “the worst headache of my life”)
Blurred or double vision
Confusion
One dilated pupil
One drooping eyelid
Fainting
Nausea/vomiting
Pain around one eye
Stiffness in the neck
Sensitivity to light
Seizures
Weakness and/or numbness

According to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation, headaches are the first symptom of leaked or ruptured aneurysm. It doesn’t necessarily mean that a person will experience all of the symptoms, but if you do experience most, call an ambulance or have someone drive you to the hospital. Avoid driving on your own.
When a brain aneurysm leaks it’s called a sentinel bleed. The first symptom is a severe headache that starts suddenly and doesn’t stop for days. Be sure to seek medical help right away before the rupture happens.

What causes brain aneurysm to form is still unknown but doctors believe older people and women are at higher risk of developing one. Further, they say other categories who may develop one over time are heavy smokers, drug and alcohol abusers, and people with high blood pressure.
Brain aneurysm can also occur after a person experiences a head injury or certain blood infections. Some are even born with it.

Four-year-old girl was discovered alive and trapped inside a New York apartment next to her deceased family.
The girl’s mom, Lisa Cotton, 38, and her 8-year-old brother, Nazir Millien, were dead for at least several days before Lisa’s older daughter went to check on them following a call from the landlord.
According to Lisa’s father, Hubert Cotton, his daughter suffered from asthma and had bipolar disorder. She likely died of a cardiac arrest. His grandson, who was born prematurely and had a feeding tube, probably died of starvation.
When Hubert received a call from Lisa’s landlord who questioned whether she had left the apartment, he sent Lisa’s older daughter to check up on her mom and siblings.
The sight was a devastating one – bugs were crawling over Nazir’s dead body.

The youngest sibling, 4-year-old Promise was by her mom’s bed, feeding herself with chocolate.
No one knows for sure how long the mother and her son had been dead, but neighbors complained of an odor that smelled like death for weeks.
After receiving an anonymous call, cops conducted a welfare check on the family Tuesday at the East 231st Street apartment in the Wakefield section. However, since they didn’t feel the odor or heard noises coming from the apartment, they left.
“They said they’d be back in a few days,” a neighbor said of the cops. “One of the social workers said she was trying to get a court order to have the door broken in.”
Lisa’s older daughter grabbed Promise, took her out of the apartment, and called 911.
It is a miracle how the girl managed to stay alive for days next to her deceased family.
Promise is now staying with her grandfather, who says, “She hasn’t said anything. She’s a baby. She looks at me sometimes, you know? Like she knows something.
“We don’t know anything, we’re trying to find out.”
Hubert wonders how he’ll lay his daughter and his grandson to rest.
“I’m sorry… Two of them,” he said through tears. “How am I going to get the money? To bury both of them?”
One of Lisa’s neighbors, Eric Perez, who lives on the floor above Lisa’s, said, “The landlord hadn’t done wellness checks, people had called, neighbors called.
“It just smells like rat infested… the exterminator said the same thing — the smell is similar to rats and even death.”
Other neighbors witnessed Lisa acted strange and inappropriately at times.

Teddi Mellencamp, a fitness company entrepreneur and co-host of the podcast Two Ts In A Pod, disclosed her stage 4 melanoma diagnosis with her followers.
Mellencamp, who was part of the reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for three seasons, told Us Weekly at the time, “I’m fighting for my life. But also for my family’s life and all the people I love.”
In February, she took to the social media to explain that she had experienced severe headaches. Following a doctor’s appointment, they discovered multiple tumors in her brain and surgically removed two on February 12.
Mellencamp was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, but now the cancer progressed and spread to her lungs and brain.
“I kinda thought that I had already beaten it,” she said in April. “And then a couple days later, I found out I had four more tumors. So there’s so many different highs and lows.”
The wellness coach also spoke of how her diagnosis has influenced her children whom she shares with former husband Edwin Arroyave.
“Whether it was good news or bad news, we all just try to be there for each other and find special moments that we can have.
“I know everyone says this, but I have really good kids,” she continued. “Laughter has been a huge part of what makes it so much better.”

After her brain surgery, she made a powerful appearance at a cancer benefit last week where she proudly showed her scars. Mellencamp chose not to wear a wig at the event.
“The day to day decision of wig versus no wig. Crying days I tend to pick the wig,” she shared on Instagram, posting a selfie with a full blonde wig on.
“This is my first night out since I got out of the hospital,” she said. “I feel good. I know it feels really devastating right now, but everything – it gets better.”
In her most recent Instagram video, Mellencamp shared a positive update, saying her tumors have “shrunk or disappeared” following treatment.
She has been receiving both radiation and immunotherapy.
“One update I couldn’t wait to share!” Mellencamp wrote in the caption. “All tumors stage 4 (metastasized melanoma in my brain and lungs) shrunk or disappeared so I have 6ish more weeks of immunotherapy and doctors believe I will be healed if everything stays on course. Thank you to everyone who has sent their love, prayers, and positivity.”
“I have two more sessions of immunotherapy, and then hopefully, I am done, and I will be cancer-free,” she continued. “I’m going to keep a positive outlook, because that’s the way my doctor just spoke to me. He’s like, ‘You did this. You got this … you got that Mellencamp blood. So, you’re good.'”
According to the American Cancer Society, stage 4 cancer is the most advanced phase of the disease, with a five-year survival rate of 35%.

Pope Leo XIV himself comes from a family of immigrants.

Posting on his X profile as Cardinal Robert Prevost, Pope Leo criticized Vance for an interview he gave about Christianity on Fox News.
“JD Vance is wrong,” he said. “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
Discussing concerns over the Trump administration’s handling of immigration, Vance referenced a Christian tenet “that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world.”

After receiving criticism on his views, Vance took to the social media to defend himself, writing, “Just google ‘ordo amoris.’ Aside from that, the idea that there isn’t a hierarchy of obligations violates basic common sense.”
Ten days later, Pope Leo, as Cardinal Robert Prevost, shared another piece from a Jesuit publication, titled, “Pope Francis’ letter, JD Vance’s ‘ordo amoris’ and what the Gospel asks of all of us on immigration.”

Louis Johnson III, “LJ,” was 11 years old when he took his own life on April 27, 2023.
Two years after his tragic passing, his grieving parents, Tyka Johnson and Louis Johnson Jr., filed a lawsuit against the school district he was in, the Marion County School Board in Ocala, Fla., on Monday, April 21, over LJ’s suicide.
They claimed their son’s fifth-grade teacher, named as Donna White in the lawsuit but listed as Dawn in school’s documents, b***ied him constantly and invited other students to call him names, which led to LJ’s anxiety, depression, and eventually committing suicide.
According to the Johnsons — as stated in the filing obtained by People — White “constantly, consistently and relentlessly publicly humiliated minor child [LJ] in front of his peers, calling him ‘stupid’ and ridiculing him in front of his classmates on several occasions over the span of months.”
The parents took their concerns of b****ying to the school board, but they didn’t act in any way to prevent the teacher’s behavior.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, LJ died in the hospital, two days after his attempt to take his own life.
Following the tragic incident, authorities interviewed more than two dozen students about White’s behavior, WCJBreported.
The report from the questioning of the students revealed that the teacher, whose contract was terminated following the investigation, would get furious and reduce students to tears when they failed to answer her questions right.
White’s “verbally insulting, humiliating, and embarrassing students” inflicted psychological distress on her victims, the report concluded.
LJ’s family started a GoFundMe page to help the family with the expenses. In it, they once again accused White of leading LJ to death.
“LJ was the youngest of four and so full of potential and promise. He loved the beach, catching crabs, making TikTok recipes and was a huge advocate for the homeless. If he saw a homeless person, he immediately said ‘dad, we gotta pray for that person’. Since moving to Florida, LJ battled with b****ing. He gave up his fight and took his own life on 4/27/2023.”

Nobel Prize winner Ivan Pavlov, a Russian neurologist, demonstrated conditioned learning—also known as a conditioned reflex—by conducting an experiment involving dogs and a bell. Before feeding them, he would ring the bell, and over time, the dogs began to associate the sound with food, eventually salivating at the sound alone.
This discovery was groundbreaking and influenced the theory of behaviorism that suggests “all behaviors are acquired through conditioning processes.”
This means that “It all comes down to the patterns of learning we’ve acquired through associations, rewards, and punishments. This approach argues that it’s our environment that shapes our actions more than our thoughts and feelings.”
Influenced by Pavlov’s work, psychologist John B. Watson and his graduate student Rosalie Rayner decided to apply the same logic. This time, however, using a baby known as “Little Albert.”
Their experiment is referred to as “medical misogyny.”
They chose a nine-month old baby, whose mother was a vet nurse at the hospital where the experiment was conducted. She wasn’t fully aware of what her child experienced behind closed doors.
“He was healthy from birth and one of the best developed youngsters ever brought to the hospital, weighing twenty-one pounds at nine months of age,” Watson and his study partner, Rosalie Rayner, wrote of Little Albert. “He was on the whole stolid and unemotional. His stability was one of the principal reasons for using him as a subject in this test. We felt that we could do him relatively little harm by carrying out such experiments.”
The baby was exposed to soft animals, including a white rat, a rabbit, a dog, a monkey, some masks, cotton, wool, and burning newspapers among the rest.
At first, he played with the animals and didn’t show any fear, but over time, whenever he reached for the white rat, Watson would bang a metal pipe with a hammer right behind the baby, startling him and making him cry.
This was repeated enough times until the baby cried and screamed just by looking at the rat.
Eventually, Albert began to associate anything white and fluffy with sheer terror. This included Santa Clause, because of his white beard.
Watson was happy his “Little Albert experiment” worked, but neither he nor his assistant did anything to reverse the damage – or to “decondition” him – as they promised to his mother.
Instead, they let Albert toughen up all by himself.
Sadly, Little Albert died aged six from hydrocephalus – a condition where fluid builds up in the brain.
It turned out that he wasn’t as healthy at the start of the experiment as Watson wrote in the study he published.
“He has a very large head, and he’s quite pudgy and short, but the head is still big for a pudgy, short infant,” Fridlund told How Stuff Works of the obvious health issues the baby was having.
“The second thing was how abnormal he was in his behavior. During that entire film – on which Albert appears for roughly four minutes – you see not one social smile from Albert. Not one.”
Further, he added: “Not once in the film, despite being brought an Airdale that’s scampering all over, being shown burning paper, being shown a monkey cavorting on a leash – and he has a steel bar struck with a hammer 14 times behind his back – not once does Albert turn to either Watson or Rayner to seek support. If infants perceive that the stimulus is threatening, they typically run toward a caretaker.”
Over the years, scholars have debated over the true identity of Little Albert.
Researcher Hall Beck from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, believes he was Douglas Merritte, the six-year-old who died.
Russ Powell and his colleagues at MacEwan University in Alberta, Canada, believed baby Albert was in fact William Albert Barger, who was born at the same hospital. Barger lived until 2007 but didn’t recall being part of any experiment. Throughout his life, he was only afraid of dogs.

Madeleine McCann went missing 17 years ago from an apartment in Praia da Luz, in Portugal, while her parents were out having dinner. Her case is still considered to be “the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history.”
Last year, Madeleine’s devastated parents, who are still looking for answer, shared a heartbreaking message.
“It’s 17 years since Madeleine was taken from us,” it read. “It’s hard to even say that number without shaking our heads in disbelief. Whilst we are fortunate in many ways and able to live a relatively normal and enjoyable life now, the ‘living in limbo’ is still very unsettling. And the absence still aches.”
“Your support continues to encourage us and bolsters our strength to keep going. We know the love and hope for Madeleine and the will to find her, even after so many years, remains, and we are truly thankful for that.
“Thank you again for remembering Madeleine and all missing children. Kate and Gerry.”
The prime suspect in the case, German pedophile Christian Brückner, 48, is currently serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 72-year-old American in Praia da Luz in 2005. At the same time, he’s awaiting a trial for a separate case in which he’s charged for raping an Irish tour rep in 2004.
A former cellmate of Brückner, Laurentiu Codin, 50, claimed he once bragged about stealing a child in Portugal.
”He told me that in Portugal, that he had stolen there… he was in a region of hotels where people are there, not sure how you say, rich people, where rich people live,” Codin recalled.
“And when he was in the area of the hotels where the rich people live, there was somewhere an open window, he told me this, and this was the reason he asked me whether fingerprints could be left when he went out of the window.
”He said he went into the flat because of money and said that he didn’t find any money, but found a kid, and took the child, and that two hours later, the place he was, it was then surrounded by police and dogs.”

”And he then went away, out of the area, I am just saying what he told me… And he took the child in Portugal in his car, and in the time when the police and dogs were there at the house, he drove away, and he was gone, he asked me if the DNA from a child can be found as evidence and I answered yes.”
The defendant’s lawyer, Philipp Marquart, dismissed the testimony, stating: ”All of these claims are completely new. All of them. He has never said anything like this before, and they all contradict each other.”
Braunschweig Chief Public Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters confirmed to The Independent that Brückner is seeking early release from his jail term.
A person close to the case told a German outlet: “Normally a move like his bid for an early release would be laughed out of court.
“But everyone is very nervous after what happened with his r*** trial last year.
The source added that Madeleine’s prosecutors are ‘nervous’ and it could ‘mean disaster for the Madeleine McCann case.’
“Charging over Madeleine would be the only ace left up their sleeve for keeping Christian B. behind bars,” they continued.
“Let’s hope they don’t need it.”
In case the court approves Christian Brückner’s early release, Madeleine’s legal team is likely to appeal immediately. This could push back his release by months. If the appeal is unsuccessful, prosecutors may have to formally charge him in connection with her disappearance to keep him in custody.
As this critical legal fight continues, the McCanns and their supporters remain hopeful that justice will finally be served.
A major update follows investigators’ disturbing discovery at Brueckner’s hideaway in central Germany.
According to The Sun, which is producing a documentary on the case, among the items found there were masks, unlicensed firearms, ammunition, bikes, children’s toys, chilling photographs of young girls, and a staggering 75 children’s swimsuits, despite Brueckner not having a child.
There were also writings in which he expressed his obsession with abducting children. They included a case of him drugging a mother and her daughter outside a preschool and s**ually abusing a 4-year-old blond girl.
Conversations between Brueckner and other pedophiles were also discovered. I one of them, he revealed he wanted to: “capture something small and use it for days.”
Among the photos investigators found, there was one showing Brueckner at Arade Dam, just 35 miles from where Maddie vanished.
Allegedly, he attended a festival in Spain and revealed to someone that Madeleine “didn’t scream.”

The Mirror reported that evidence contained in a hard drive that is in the possession of the police for some time now could finally be revealed. Sadly, it may include images that suggest Madeleine is not alive.
“We have strong evidence that Madeleine McCann is dead and that our suspect killed her. We don’t have the body and no parts of the body, but we have enough evidence to say our suspect killed Madeleine McCann,” German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said in 2020.

Barron and his grandfather Viktor Knavs share a special bond, a source close to the family has revealed. “Viktor is extremely close to his grandson, Barron, and you often see them walking around Mar-a-Lago together – or at least you did before Barron went off to New York University,” they told Daily Mail.

Following the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan, who has been charged with obstruction of an official proceeding after she helped an illegal immigrant escape federal officials, she would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge” until her case proceeds through the legal system, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled.
“I can confirm that our @FBI agents just arrested Hannah Dugan — a county judge in Milwaukee — for allegedly helping an illegal alien avoid an arrest by @ICEgov,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X last Friday. “No one is above the law.”
According to AP, Dugan’s attorney said, “Judge Dugan wholeheartedly regrets and protests her arrest. It was not made in the interest of public safety.”

Her arrest led to a confrontation between state judicial authority and federal immigration enforcement.
“The court has learned that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah C. Dugan has been charged with two federal criminal offenses, one of which is a felony and one of which is a misdemeanor,” a two-page order from the court filed Tuesday stated.
“This court is charged in the Wisconsin Constitution with exercising superintending and administrative authority over the courts of this state. In the exercise of that constitutional authority and in order to uphold the public’s confidence in the courts of this state during the pendency of the criminal proceeding against Judge Dugan, we conclude, on our own motion, that it is in the public interest that she be temporarily relieved of her official duties.”
Judge Dugan’s cases will be redistributed among other judges in Milwaukee’s already-overloaded court system.
Further, legal experts argue that the Supreme Court’s swift ruling of removing Judge Dugan from official duties highlights the seriousness with which the judiciary takes claims of a judge deliberately impeding federal law enforcement.
“When a judge faces criminal charges related to their official duties, it creates an extraordinary situation that demands immediate administrative action,” explained James Friedman, a professor of judicial ethics at Marquette University Law School. “The suspension doesn’t presume guilt, but it acknowledges that the integrity of the judicial process would be compromised if a judge under such serious allegations continued to preside over cases while simultaneously defending themselves against criminal charges.”
If convicted, Judge Dugan could face up to six years in prison.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 15.

A study published in JAMA Network Open examines the link between cannabis consumption and the effects on brain activity.
The consumption of cannabis has increased worldwide in recent years due to greater social acceptance, legalization, and the perception that it is relatively harmless.
The new study, however, sheds light on the effects cannabis can have on brain activity.
Researchers analyzed 1000 young adults aged 22 to 36 with cannabis use disorder using brain imaging technology. The research revealed that both those who used cannabis for an extended period of time and recent users showed reduced brain activity during a working memory task.

Working memory is person’s ability to work with information and is linked to a range of cognitive activities, from reasoning tasks to verbal comprehension to mathematical skills.
Joshua Gowin, PhD, the study’s first author, stated, “As cannabis use continues to grow globally, studying its effects on human health has become increasingly important. By doing so, we can provide a well-rounded understanding of both the benefits and risks of cannabis use, empowering people to make informed decisions and fully comprehend the potential consequences.”
Use of cannabis has negative effects on the communication between key brain networks, including those involved in daydreaming, decision-making, focus, memory, and managing emotions.
“We applied the highest standards to our research, setting rigorous thresholds for statistical significance across all seven cognitive function tests. To minimize the risk of false positives, we employed false discovery rate (FDR) correction. While some of the other tasks indicated potential cognitive impairment, only the working memory task showed a statistically significant impact,” Gowin added.

Most cannabis users believe that CBD (cannabidiol)—a compound in cannabis that doesn’t cause a high—reduces the negative effects of THC (the compound that makes people feel high). However, the study suggests this not to be the case. On the contrary, it sometimes increases the effects.

Most of us are well-aware of the benefits training and regular exercise have on our body, but we often overlook the connection between regular physical activity and our brain.
Dr. Kim Johnson Hatchett, a neurologist, explains that the lack of physical activity, especially strength training, affects the brain negatively and the damage caused can be lasting.
Dr. Hatchett, who is also a public speaker and has nearly 9,000 TikTok followers, took to the social media to remind people to stay active for the sake of their brains. In a recent post, she explained, “The scariest thing I see as a neurologist is the gradual weakening of America. Not moving your muscles . . . has an effect on every aspect of your life and most importantly your brain.”
In an interview with Self, Dr. Hatchett said that not many people are aware of the strong link between physical activity and their brain.
“Every time you exercise, you secrete nerve growth factor, a peptide involved in regulating neurons in the brain,” she explained. “It can also support myelin, the neuroprotective sheath that helps nerve fibers shuttle electrical impulses quickly and efficiently and can degenerate with age.
“So many of my patients are frustrated by their lack of mobility. I ask them about their activity level, and they often admit they aren’t really exercising at all.
“They truly don’t make the connection that their weakness is due to their lack of muscle movement, and they definitely are unaware of the impact that it might be having on their brain.”
She pinpoints that even slightest daily movement may reduce the risks of dementia.
During exercise, particularly cardio and strength training, the blood flow to the brain increases, leading to better cognitive functions.
The notorious prison Alcatraz, known as “the Rock,” was shut down on March 21, 1963, and later transformed into one of San Francisco’s top tourist attractions, attracting 1.5 million visitors every year.
However, President Donald Trump announced on May 4 that he had asked from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to reopen it after over six decades.
Taking to Truth Social, he wrote, “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering. When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
His post continued: “That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.”

Sharing his frustrations with the “radical judges,” who according to Trump are slowing down deportations by insisting on due process, he is outlining a broader strategy to reform how the U.S. detains federal prisoners and immigration offenders, and the decision to reopen Alcatraz is part of it.
“Alcatraz has long been a symbol of law and order. You know, it’s got quite a history,” Trump said.
According to AP, reopening the notorious prison “would likely be an expensive and challenging proposition,” especially because one of the reasons for its closure were the high maintenance costs and the crumbling infrastructure.
Despite that, a Bureau of Prisons’ spokesperson said the agency “will comply with all Presidential Orders.”

Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, whose district includes the prison, deemed Trump’s proposal “not a serious one” since “[the prison] is now a very popular national park and major tourist attraction.”
Trump also directed the opening of a new detention facility at Guantanamo Bay expected to hold up to 30,000 of what he called the “worst criminal aliens.”
