These stores, among which Dollar Tree, attract plenty of customers, but sometimes, the quality of the inexpensive items they offer is questionable. That is why people should be extra cautious when they purchase certain products at these places, such as electronics, cleaning supplies, and more.

Take a look at the list of some of the products you should try to avoid getting at Dollar Tree.

When it comes to electronics, what we look for in an item is its quality and durability, and purchasing them at low cost can say a lot about their reliability. So, no matter how tempted you are to treat yourself with an electronic equipment from a dollar store, have in mind that its lifespan may not be as long as that from a reputable brand or store.

Cleaning the home is an activity that some people find frustrating and tiring, while others enjoy it. No matter which group you belong to, using high-quality cleaning products is essential for having the job done the right way.

“It’s fine to purchase some cleaning supplies at dollar stores as long as you need smaller amounts and ensure that you’re getting the best unit price,” says a consumer analyst. “Either way, it’s best to purchase brands you trust.”

Getting the best deal is something most of us love, but it should never come at the cost of your health, and cleaning products from unreliable brands can have a negative impact on one’s health.

Utensils, Batteries, and Crayons

When it comes to utensils and batteries, as well as other items that you use on a daily basis, you want them to be of higher quality because you rely on them. Before getting some from the dollar store, have in mind that investing in higher-quality options from other retailers can often provide better performance and longevity.

Kitchen utensils made of stainless steel would be the perfect option.

Also, if your kids needs crayons, crayons, especially ones with vibrant colors and a smooth application, higher-quality brands generally provide better results than budget options.

Canned goods and food

Eating healthy is very important. The food we consume should be of great quality if we are to maintain overall well-being. 

Having said that, we should think twice before purchasing food from a dollar store. 

Recently, one such store came under fire for continuing to sell pouches of tainted cinnamon applesauce two months after the products were pulled from the market, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Hair and Skin Care Products

Most people spend plenty of money on beautifying products for their body, face, and hair. When purchasing these products we need to be aware of the ingredients included in their production, which should be of high-quality and meeting the standards we’re looking for in terms of best results.

When getting products for healthy skin and hair, always choose quality over price.

Renowned actor James Earl Jones, famous for voicing Darth Vader, dead at 93

Actor James Earl Jones, famous for lending his powerful voice to characters like Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King, passed away at 93.

Representatives confirmed with Deadline that the actor died peacefully at his home in Dutchess County, New York.

Jones was born January 17, 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi and raised by his grandparents in Dublin, Michigan. At a young age, he struggled with stuttering but grew to become one of the most famous and most distinctive voices in the history of film.

“I was a stutterer. I couldn’t talk,” Jones recalled in a 1996 interview. “So my first year of school was my first mute year, and then those mute years continued until I got to high school.”

He worked hard to overcome the condition and was encouraged by one of his teachers to read poetry out loud in order to improve his speech.

Over time, his deep resonant voice became his signature and helped him land some of cinema’s most iconic and unforgettable roles.

Jones’ acting career, which spanned decades, started at Broadway in 1957, when he had his debut. He quickly conquered the stage and made a name for himself, thus won a Tony Award for his role in The Great White Hope in 1969. This same role, which he reprised in the 1970 film adaptation led to a Golden Globe Award and his first Academy Award nomination.

Jones went on to earn a second Tony Award for Fences and a Special Tony Award for lifetime achievement.

His place in the film industry was cemented when he started voicing the storied antagonist Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise, starting with 1977’s Star Wars. He continued to voice Vader for decades, in the two sequels The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the prequel Revenge of the Sith and the spin-off Rogue One. When he retired from the role in 2022, Jones signed an agreement which said his voice could be used in future projects using artificial intelligence and archive recordings.

His portrayal of Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King further established him as a defining voice in cinematic history.

Throughout his long and successful career, Jones landed a number of roles, including ones in Conan the Barbarian, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, and The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and The Sandlot, among the rest.

In 2011, Jones received an Honorary Academy Award, placing him on the list of just few actors who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.

Broadway’s Cort Theatre was renamed the James Earl Jones Theatre in his honor in 2022, which further testifies of his prominence as a stage actor.

Following his passing, tributes came pouring in from fans and fellow actors.

“There will never be another of his particular combination of graces,” actor LeVar Burton wrote.

In the new documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s wife and a key member of the E Street Band opened up about her personal struggle with multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer she was diagnosed with in 2018.

The documentary premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. In it, the musician revealed that her condition has affected her ability to tour and perform.

Scialfa joined the E Street Band in 1984 but she’s also a solo artist with multiple albums released. Over the course of her rich music career, Scialfa has worked with various famous names such as Don Cherry, Narda Michael Walden, David Johansen, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Among the rest, she’s a songwriter and a producer of movies and documentaries.

Scialfa and Springsteen tied the knot in 1991 and welcomed three children together: sons Evan and Samuel, and daughter Jessica.

Speaking of the challenges she has faced following her diagnosis, she said, “It felt so good to be back on stage” and reflected on her limited performances. “Touring has become a challenge for me. This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go.” Her condition requires her to be cautious, often limiting her to occasional appearances.

Despite her current health condition, Scialfa does her best to stay positive. “Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs on stage, and that’s been a treat,” she added.

Scialfa didn’t attend the premiere of the documentary, which will be available to stream on Hulu and Disney+ on October 25, but she revealed in it that it lets fans see “a side of our relationship that you usually don’t get to see.”

“Being back onstage with Bruce is a blast,” she said. “Every night at this tour gives the band a chance to celebrate.”

Legendary actress found dead following an ‘unexpected accident’ during a walk near her home in Washington

Actress Anne Whitfield, celebrated for her role as Susan Waverly in the beloved 1954 film White Christmas, died aged 85 following an “unexpected accident” while taking a walk near her home in Washington.

Her tragic passing was announced by a member of her family. “She was a powerhouse in life, and we hope her immense positive energy flows out to those who had the pleasure of knowing her,” her obituary read.

Whitfield, whose mother taught speech and drama and whose father was a music director at the University of Mississippi, grew up in a household in which creativity was highly valued so her finding herself being interested in arts didn’t come as a surprise.

By age seven, she was working regularly in radio commercials and shows like Our Miss Brooks and One Man’s Family, she paved her way towards a successful career in entertainment that extended beyond the silver screen.

Whitfield had her breakthrough with her iconic role in White Christmas, which made her part of cinematic history.

During the 1950s and ‘60s, she continued to thrive in both television and film. She appeared in numerous TV series, including Father Knows Best, The Donna Reed Show, Rawhide, and Perry Mason, and starred in films like Juvenile Jungle and Tick, Tick, Tick. She also had a notable recurring role on Days of Our Lives.

Once she felt she needed break from film and television, Whitfield pursued a degree in communications and worked with the Washington State Department of Ecology, becoming an advocate for environmental responsibility, women’s rights, and voter registration.

During her late years, she found love in hiking. Even at 85, she celebrated her birthday by hiking the Dolomite Mountains in Italy. Tragically, on February 7, 2024, Whitfield passed away.

Whitfield is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren, who remember her as a woman of warmth, resilience, and generosity.

“She was beloved by her family, who were always her first priority,” her obituary read. “The life of Anne Langham Whitfield Phillips was a beautiful one, with every second used to uplift the world and those around her.

“Through the kindness of neighbours who provided expert medical support, family had the gift to say goodbye and express love and gratitude, a gift we will always cherish.”

Fans and fellow actors paid their tributes with touching messages shared on the social media.

Wife finds hidden door behind mirror while cleaning bedroom and gets trapped inside

When Emma fell pregnant with Mark’s child, she wanted them to move to a bigger house. Mark wasn’t excited about the idea of moving places but he wanted to please his wife so he finally agreed.

Their new home was spacious and beautiful. Emma fell in love with the place and she could easily imagine raising her child there.

Excited for the future, she decided to start cleaning the house and prepare for the arrival of their bundle of joy.

When she got to the master bedroom, she took the time to admire the large, floor-length mirror that resembled a secret doorway like the ones in the fairytales.

When she began cleaning it, she noticed a small nub on the side. Out of curiosity, she pulled it, and to her shock, the mirror opened up to reveal a hidden room behind it. “It is a doorway!” she exclaimed, amazed by her discovery.

Inside the small, dimly lit room, there was nothing but a chair. When Emma looked back at the door, she saw it wasn’t just a regular room—there was a two-way mirror, allowing someone to observe the master bedroom. “The person who built this house must have wanted to spy on its occupants,” she thought, feeling uneasy.

As her husband felt distant recently, the thought of hiding inside the room and testing his fidelity. She called Mark and said, “Hey, honey. I’m going to my mom’s house tonight for a girls’ night. I might stay over. Is that okay?” Mark responded with a disinterested, “Yeah, yeah, cool,” and hung up.

Later that evening, Emma hid in the secret room, but the door slammed shut behind her as she tried to leave, trapping her inside. “I’m an idiot,” she muttered, realizing she was stuck.

Soon, she heard Mark’s voice with another woman. To her dismay, Mark entered the bedroom with Melissa, saying, “Yeah, Melissa. I hope you don’t mind. I just moved in.” They began kissing, shattering Emma’s heart.

When Mark left to get pizza, Emma called out, “Melissa! Melissa! Melissa!” Melissa, confused, asked, “Who’s there?” Emma explained she was stuck behind the mirror and needed help. When Melissa opened the door, and Emma emerged in tears.

Melissa, shocked, asked if Mark had locked Emma in. Emma clarified she had trapped herself.

It was obvious Melissa had no idea Mark was married. He deceived her in order to take her clients from her.

Both women, deeply hurt by Mark, decided to seek revenge.

Emma was determined to divorce him, but she knew he would never agree to leave her because her father was a rich man. But she came up with a plan and Melissa agreed to help by pretending everything was normal and tricking Mark into signing the divorce papers when he believed he was signing a deal with one of Melissa’s clients.

A month later, during dinner, Emma asked Mark, “Did anything important happen at work today?”

“Same old, same old,” Mark replied.

“Is that so?” Melissa said, walking in. Mark’s face went pale. “What’s going on?” he asked, panicked.

Emma revealed, “You just signed our divorce papers. And don’t bother fighting it—we have a prenup.” Melissa added, “Get your things and leave. This is not your home anymore.”

Emma was finally free. She might have lost her husband but she gained a lifelong friend in Melissa.

Mother warns others after her 10-year-old son collapses following a day at the beach

After experiencing a frightening day at the Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, one Massachusetts mom is issuing a warning about the dangers of spending time at the ocean.

She started her story explaining that she and her 10-year-old son Declan visited the beach in order to avoid the hot weather and have some fun together.

Declan was playing in the ocean when he suddenly felt nauseated. At first, his mom, Heather Cassini, didn’t think much of it and believed he simply needed to rest in the shade. But she was wrong.

In the Facebook post she wrote, Cassini explained how she thought the breakfast Declan had was too much for the waves and that he was going to be just fine if he laid down, but he suddenly collapsed in the sand.

Declan managed to lift himself up, but shortly after, he tripped and ended up back on the ground.

“I’m pregnant and frantically trying to pick him up,” his mother recalled. “He’s going in and out of consciousness and vomiting. And he was so pale.” 

The beachgoers who realized Declan was in need of help flagged down a lifeguard and called 911.

When paramedics arrived, they determined Declan suffered from hypothermia.

“I had no idea that this could happen,” Cassini shared with Today. “You think about sunburns and dehydration and all the things that can happen in the water, but I never considered cold shock.”

Thankfully, Declan fully recovered in the next two hours, but the experience left both him and his mom in distress.

Cassini wanted to alert others about the risk of developing hypothermia, even during the summer months.

“Just a warning to those with kids who feel no cold and love the water. Just because they can handle it doesn’t mean they can handle it,” she wrote.

Taken far too soon, rest in peace

Hailey Merkt, a former contestant on The Bachelor, passed away at the age of 31 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

The heartbreaking news of her tragic passing was shared on her personal Instagram account by her family who expressed their grief while celebrating her incredible strength, grace, and selflessness throughout her fight.

“It is with broken hearts we share that our beloved Hailey has passed away after a courageous fight for her life,” their message read. “Hailey went on this journey with unimaginable bravery, kindness, and selflessness. Her bravery, determination, and will to live came through in the face of every deadline the doctors gave her. She chose to spend her last moments with family and friends doing what she loved most, with no regrets.”

Hailey, born on November 3, 1992, in Vancouver, Canada, had appeared on Season 21 of The Bachelor in 2017, where she competed for Nick Viall’s affections.

Aside from her reality TV stint, Hailey was a photographer and had worked as a senior marketing and communications manager. She had studied Communication and Media Studies at Carleton University and earned a diploma in print journalism from Conestoga College.

In April 2024, she was declared cancer-free but her condition suddenly worsened just three months later, leading to her untimely passing on July 26, 2024.

In her final months, Hailey continued to share her journey on social media, chronicling both her victories and struggles. Her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from her fellow Bachelor contestants, who remembered her as a vibrant, funny, and loving person.

Her friends, family, and former contestants of the reality show paid their tributes to the young woman.

“I count myself so lucky to know your laugh and grateful to have met and loved the realest, warmest, most beautiful soul in the weirdest of places. Forever grateful for your friendship there and in the real world…. What a force my girl, rest easy. So much love to all your people,” one of the former The Bachelor contestants wrote.

“Oh my gosh!!! I’m so so sad to hear this. I was so hoping for her recovery. Rest easy, Hailey, you’ll never be forgotten,” another contestant, Raven Gates, posted.

Dominique Alexis, who was also featured on Hailey’s season of The Bachelor, extended her heartfelt condolences. “My love, I hope you are in the most beautiful peaceful place. I can’t imagine that I won’t see you again but I’ll cherish every memory together. Love you,” she posted.

Hailey’s family thanked everyone who showed their support and donated on the GoFundMe page set up to help with the medical expenses.

A well-known actress has tragically passed away in a car accident

A fatal car accident claimed the life of 22-year-old Kamylla Cristina Rosa de Oliveira, an actress, a model, and social media influencer from Brazil.

The young woman reportedly experienced issues with a wheel while driving along the GO-217 motorway in Piracanjuba, in the Brazilian state of Goiás. She pulled over onto the hard shoulder, where a driver struck her and fled the scene.

At the time of the incident, Kamylla, which went by the name Mila Maria on the social media, was together with two friends. However, the friends couldn’t provide details about the vehicle that killed their friend besides that it was driving in the same direction as them.

Kamylla’s fans and friends are sharing tributes to the young woman whose life was tragically cut short.

“Whenever I remember you, I will remember your joy and light. Now you will make the angels happy, rest in beautiful peace and may God comfort the whole family,” one of her friends wrote on the social media. “We FINISHED organizing our processes for our long-awaited agency. Friend, did I say enough that I loved you? My God, what pain I’m feeling,” another friend, Laura Teixeira, posted.

Kamylla’s last post discussed her relationship with social media. She viewed the platform as a diary “filled with memories that represent the stages of our lives.”

In a post from February 2nd, the model spoke about her work as an influencer. “As a publicist and actress, I dove headfirst into the vibrant world of advertising and digital influence. For me, staying active isn’t a choice; it’s a necessity,” she wrote.

She often posted photos of her travels around Brazil and had a number of followers.

We are saddened by the loss of such a young life. May she rest in peace.

Trash collector watched my kids for just 25 minutes – I decided to hire him as our full-time nanny

When Dr. Sanders got a call from the hospital about an emergency, she found herself in a very difficult position. She had the day off, and had a hard time finding a babysitter for her three young children.

“Now? Are you sure Dr. Morris is not available?” she asked Nurse Carey on the phone while already changing her clothes and trying to think of a solution to her problem.

“No, Dr. Sanders. Dr. Morris is currently driving across state lines trying to get here. You live close by, so I thought I would call. The interns have no idea what they’re doing. I know it’s your day off, but I didn’t know what else to do. Will you be able to come?” Nurse Carey said, doing her best not to sound worried.

Dr. Sanders was quick to call her sister for help, but she wasn’t home and couldn’t help. She then called Vicky, the woman who babysat the kids every now and then, but she said she didn’t feel fine and couldn’t step in either.

Following the passing of her husband Peter, Dr. Sanders was left to raise her three children, Johnny, 9, Christie, 7, and Lucy, alone.

Usually, she paid through the roof for the local daycare center when she was scheduled regularly at work, but she couldn’t rush them in that day. It was already noon on a Friday, and she would feel bad sending them.

In the middle of the chaos, Dr. Sanders heard her three children shouting “Uncle Bob, Uncle Bob,” as they rushed out of the house.

They didn’t have an uncle, but the local garbageman who took Dr. Sanders’ trash for over ten years was so friendly to her children that they grew fond of him throughout the years.

Watching Bob with her children, Dr. Sanders came up with an idea. Approaching him, she said, “Bob, I have a crazy request. I know you’re busy. But I was wondering if you would babysit my kids for 25 minutes. I have to check something urgent at the hospital, and I have no one else,” she begged as her kids were looking at Bob hoping for a positive answer.

“Sure, Dr. Sanders. I can watch them for a while,” he replied, nodding and smiling. The children jumped and cheered.

“They’re more than a handful, though. I’m warning you,” she said.

“Don’t worry. You go ahead. Your job is important,” Bob replied.

Dr. Sanders went to the hospital, but since the emergency case needed surgery, she was at the hospital for over three hours. She felt bad for leaving Bob attending her children, who were demanding and misbehaved, for that long.

Once home, Dr. Sanders’ jaw dropped when she saw her home perfectly tidy.

“What happened here? My house… is unrecognizable. And why aren’t the kids screaming and running around?”

“Lucy is napping, and Christie and Johnny are in their rooms, reading,” Bob answered.

“What? Are you kidding me?”

“No, go see.”

Shocked, Dr. Sanders asked, “How did you do this?”

“Oh, Dr. Sanders. I was a single father raising kids once. Mine were ten times worse than these three angels,” Bob laughed. “I taught them to pick up after themselves and narrated them fairy tales. Your kids ate that up. You might want to buy them more books.”

As Bob was leaving, Dr. Sanders apologized for being late once again and offered him money, but he refused, saying it was his pleasure to spend some time with the children.

Dr. Sanders was very grateful. That night, when she recalled how her day went, she decided to offer Bob to take care of her children instead of working as a garbageman.

She offered him a salary three times hire than what he earned at his job. The babysitting job would come with more health benefits.

After giving it some thought, Bob accepted the job and Dr. Sanders was so thankful that she gave him a Christmas bonus and plane tickets so his family could visit Disneyland in California later that year.

This mom realized that her kids needed someone who felt like family to take care of them. They hated daycare because they didn’t like being around strangers.

The clean-cut teen idol of the 1950s broke the hearts of many teenagers – You better sit before you see who he is dating

His song Diana helped his music career skyrocket, placing Paul Anka, one of the most renowned singers of the 20th century, under the limelight.

However, his road to stardom wasn’t an easy one. Speaking to Newsday back in 1982, Anka said, “I started out at a time when it was not easy to be seriously accepted at such an early age. I realized that to succeed, you have to have some sort of a grand plan and ambition – some sort of a master plan. I decided right then, when ’Diana’ became a hit, that I was going to become as successful as I possibly could in the song-writing field.”

At the time he started singing and writing songs, the Put Your Head on My Shoulder singer was just 14.

His striking good looks and polished demeanor made him stand out, turning him into one of the most adored teen idols of the 1950s. Unlike today, when singers incorporate a number of effects during their performance and use auto-tune, Anka was a pure class. It was his voice, facial expressions, and genuine connection to music that were enough to fill venues with fans whose hearts he touched.

“When I was a kid, even the guys I was hanging with like Sinatra or Dean Martin, nobody came from a sophisticated background. We all got lucky and found our groove and vibe. Now I wear the hat of the guys I witnessed; you become who you see. At my age right now, I still do that,” he said.

At the height of his career, Anka met Anne de Zogheb. The blonde model was a daughter of a diplomat who moved places often. The two first laid eyes on each other in 1962 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It took only a year for them to know they belonged to one another and tie the knot.

The two stayed together for over 40 years, welcoming four daughters, Amelia, Anthea, Alicia, Amanda and Alexandra. Today, Amanda is married to actor Jason Bateman.

Anka and Anne separated in 2000, leaving his fans in shock.

Speaking of the divorce, Anka said, “I did my best, but I was travelling 200 days a year.”

Sadly, Anne died on 29 March 2017 at the age of 74.

In 2008, Anka found love again with his personal trainer Anna Åberg, a former Miss Sweden. They welcomed a son together but Anka filed for divorce just 18 months later following a heated argument. His wife accused him of threatening her with a gun, which led to police involvement. In response, he took legal action against her, further complicating their already troubled marriage.

“Paul has now sold the house; he lives just a few minutes away from me. He put it on the market because he wants to move away. It’s because Ethan has turned 18 now, so Paul is scared. For a short time, Anka stayed single before meeting and getting involved with Lisa Pemberton. He met her at a party in 2010 and tied the know with her in 2016 in a lavish and intimate ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel at Westlake Village in Los Angeles.

Lisa helped Anka raise his son, but after a few rocky years, they divorced in 2020.

    Life is unpredictable. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to make things right, God has other plans.

    Becky is a woman who tragically lost her son Tristan, who was just 19 years old at the time he left this world. Her grief was immense. She couldn’t possibly imagine her life without her child, but over time, her loved ones helped her accept the reality and move on.

    Around two years after Tristan’s passing, Becky was about to marry the love of her life, a man named Kelly.

    On the day of their wedding, the two decided to leave an empty seat in Tristan’s honor with a heartwarming message written on it. “What should I do now that I’ve arrived in heaven for your wedding? I will stoop to your level in order to spend it with you. Please save me a seat, even if there is only one available chair. Although you might not notice me, I shall be present.”

    As the ceremony proceeded, Kelly informed Becky that there was someone there who wanted to see her. A young man who took Tristan’s chair. When she saw him, Becky wasn’t mad. On the contrary, spotting the young man, she was overwhelmed and couldn’t stop tears from rolling down her face.

    That man, Jacob, was the recipient of Tristan’s heart. Tristan was an organ donor, and Jacob wasn’t the only person whose life he saved.

    When Kelly informed Jacob that he and Becky are getting married and invited him to the ceremony, Jacob was more than willing to travel from San Diego in order to attend it. It was a beautiful surprise that warmed Becky’s heart and made her day. She felt like her son was present on her wedding day.

    Becky was then given a stethoscope so that she could hear her late son’s heartbeat. It was an emotional moment no one could ever forget.

    Someone snapped photos of the beautiful surprise and shared it on Facebook. The story went viral in a matter of days and many praised Kelly for his love for Becky.

    My friends constantly order pricey dishes and assume everyone will share the cost – Here’s how I handled it

    Social life is an important aspect of every person’s personal growth. Having friends and spending quality time with them is important for building strong relationships, but what happens when your friends take advantage of you?

    A person took to Reddit to share how he handled his friends who would always order extremely expensive meals at a restaurant and then expected the bill to be shared eaqually.

    Although splitting the bill can help avoid awkwardness and ensure fairness if everyone’s orders are roughly equal in cost, paying for someone’s expensive taste might feel unfair to those people who ordered much less.

    Here’s the man’s story.

    “I(27M) have been a part of a small friend group, around 8 people total, basically since college. For some background, 2 people from the group, Susan and Greg, are just absolute leeches. Going out for lunch? Expect them to order the most expensive on the menu, then feed you some sob story about their finances, and then dumb half the bill on you.

    “Last weekend, Dan, one of the people from the group, told me about a casual dinner. I told him how if Susan or Greg were there I wouldn’t be able to come. He tells me that they would be there but I should just put my opinions aside and come just once. This is kind of where I might be a bad guy. l agreed with him and told him I would be there. I show up and we all get to talking. Everyone began putting in their orders, most of them spent about $40. There were only about 6 people there. When it gets to Susan and Greg, they both order expensive dishes, around $200.

    “When it was my turn to order, everyone looked at me, but I just pick up the menu and point to the $4 drink and sent the waiter away. Dan asked why I hadn’t ordered anything and all l said was that I lost my appetite. The other 2 friends got up as well to cancel their orders and just have drinks. After the main courses came out, I saw Susan and Greg picking at their food. The waiter then brings over the check. Greg then grabs the waiter and asks him to split the check 6 ways. I stand up and correct him saying the check was to be split 3 ways. Greg looks at me confused and asks why since we always split the bill. I reminded him that the 3 of us had not eaten any food so we would just be paying for our drinks.

    “So basically at the end of the night, Dan, who probably only ate around $50 worth of food, was stuck with a $146.98 check at the end. (Yes, I remember the exact number.) I swear I saw his jaw drop when he picked that receipt up. I slid a $10 towards the check, said goodbye everyone, and walked out.

    “The next morning, I found my phone full of texts from Greg and Susan telling me I was a bad guy for not ordering any food and forcing them to pay more than they had accounted for. I honestly laughed because the steaks alone were more than what they had paid but to each their own right? I also got a lot of messages from Dan saying that I could have just not came instead of pulling that stunt and getting him stuck with an outrageous bill.”

    This song by the celebrated group of ‘brothers’ moves millions to tears

    Some songs are meant to last forever. They are so powerful that even years after being released they still trigger strong feelings, whether that’s love, nostalgia, sadness, or happiness.

    When we think of such everlasting pieces of music, one of the songs that comes to our mind is More Than a Name on a Wall. Sang by the Statler Brothers consisting of Don and Harold Reid, Phil Balsley and Lew DeWitt, this tune brings millions to tears. It honors the soldiers who fought during the Vietnam War, which took more than 50,000 lives, through the story of a grieving mother who visits the Vietnam Wall and prays her son is more than just a name written on that wall.

    The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.

    The Statler Brothers started their singing career as back up vocals for Johnny Cash, whose attention they caught while playing at the Roanoke Fair in Salem, Virginia, but went on to make a name for themselves. Many of their songs are huge hits up until this day.

    The story behind the collaboration between Cash and the Statler Brothers, who combine the sounds of country with gospel melodies, says they were hired by him “on a handshake.” At the time he met them, he was promoting his 16th album.

    During the following 10 years, the group performed by Cash’ side, who helped them rise to prominence as hitmakers under Columbia Records.

    In 1965, their genre-blending hit Flowers on the Wall topped both the country and pop charts, surpassing the Beatles’ Help! and the Supremes’ Stop in the Name of Love. This success earned the Statler Brothers two Grammy Awards: Best New Country and Western Artist, and Best Contemporary Performance (Group).

    The song regained its popularity in 1994 when Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction featured it in a scene where Bruce Willis’ character, Butch, runs down Samuel L. Jackson’s character while the song plays on the car radio.

    The group hosted their own variety show on The Nashville Network (TNN) from 1991 to 1998. In 1992, the show, which highlighted the comedic skills of founding member Harold, became the network’s most popular program and set a record for the highest ratings in TNN’s history.

    In one episode, a poignant rendition of the song More Than a Name on the Wall moved audiences, bringing tears to viewers across America.

    Jimmy Fortune, who replaced DeWitt after he left due to medical reasons and then died in 1990 and wrote the song, spoke of the inspiration behind it.

    “You look at it. You look at each one of those lines from a distance, you look at it and see those lines stacked on top of each other, and they seem like they go on forever, and forever, and forever,” he said of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. “I realized that was a mother’s child. That was someone’s husband. Just all the stories and all the memories of that child…It just hit me that they are more than a name on a wall.”

    Mom has lunch with her son-in-law, weeks later she discovers a jaw-dropping image

    Some couples just kind of know that they are meant to be together, some just believe that it is pure fate that brought them together forever, then there is Ed and Heidi Savitt.

    They first met each other in 2011, when they were both students at the Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. Ed was a student in a house that Heidi used to live in, he really needed some help with the dryer…

    He texted Heidi to ask how the dryer worked, and ever since he sent that text, they have come to be completely inseparable, eventually, of course, it led to their wedding.

    They got married at the lovely but young age of 26-years-old.

    But their story is only just beginning:

    It seems that when Heidi’s mom, Kay Parker, met Ed for the first time, she got a funny kind of feeling, she though that she knew him somehow.

    There was kind of something about him, she just couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was, she tired as hard as she could, but, she couldn’t figure what it was. She really wanted to get work out what her feeling was, so she decided to investigate!

    At the dinner party, the one in which Ed’s mom, Fiona, was also at, Kay decided to mention something in passing, it was a story about a family sailing trip they took to Turkey when Heidi was only 6 years-old.

    Heidi had a sweet and cute “boyfriend” while they were on the holiday, Kay recalled, one whose name also happened to be ‘Ed.’

    She said:“The two cuties played together and held hands during the entire two-week break in Turkey!”

    Fiona thought too that it was a bit if a coincidence, she even smashed her wineglass about the name being the same, but then she didn’t give it much thought again.

    Kay, on the other hand, did give it a lot of thought, when she arrived home, she thought that she was going to find out once and for all, one way or another!

    Kay went investigating in the attic looking for the old photographs of Heidi. Then in her pile of Heidi photos, she found something interesting: a photo of Heidi and Ed taken 20 years ago!

    Kay showed them to Heidi, who had forgotten about her childhood romance all that time ago.

    With her was little six-year-old Ed, his face was still absolutely recognizable even with an awful unfashionable bowl haircut.

    Heidi said:“I was screaming, it was just unreal. It’s crazy to think we could have got married, shared our lives together, but then never found out about this.”

    Then Kay showed Fiona what she’d found out, the groom’s mom shouted out:“Oh my goodness, that’s Ed!”

    Heidi never imagined that there was such a thing as fate, but she has now changed her mind, she is a believer. Fate must have worked its magic and brought them back together again!

    Kay thinks that when they met they somehow knew deep down that they had met before and shared an amazing experience together, she believes this is what likely drove them together again, Heidi agrees, plus she now says that the moment she met Ed, she knew he really was the one!

    Woman sees daughter and son-in-law who ‘tragically died’ 5 years ago and decides to follow them

    After five long years of pain and suffering for the tragic loss of her daughter and her son-in-law, Miriam felt like she needed some time for herself. Yet, the thought of never seeing her daughter again shattered her heart into a million pieces over and over again.

    No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t overcome the sorrow that settled in her soul after her daughter’s passing following a car accident.

    The trip Miriam took was a gateway from the reality that haunted her. What she didn’t know, however, was that the trip would change her life forever.

    Once at the reception, the receptionist asked for her ID. She took it out and handed it to the worker, who began tapping away at the computer. While she waited, Miriam’s gaze wandered.

    To her disbelief, she spotted a couple who resembled her daughter and her-son-law.

    At first, she thought she was only imagining things, but as she looked closer she realized that the woman was in deed her daughter Pamela, and the man next to her was Frank, her son-in-law. But how could that be? They were both tragically killed. She buried them, and cried over their loss for five long years. What was going on, how could they be alive and where were they all those years.

    Miriam started shaking, but she still gathered strength to go after them.

    When they spotted her, they sped up their pace, but Miriam yelled: “Stop or I’ll call the police.”

    It was then that Pamela and Frank stopped and turned towards Miriam. Pamela started crying, and said, “Mom, I can explain everything.”

    Miriam was beyond angry and confused. She was happy her daughter wasn’t dead, but she couldn’t possibly understand how she could fake her own death and let her mom and the entire family suffer and mourn her loss.

    “Start talking,” Miriam demanded firmly.

    Frank then said, “Miriam, it was never our intention to hurt you.”

    “Hurt me?” Miriam let out a bitter laugh. “I buried both of you. I mourned for five years. And now you’re here, telling me you never intended to hurt me?”

    Pamela started to apologize. She tried to explain to her mother that they had their reasons. But what reason is good enough to fake your own death and leave your own mother mourn?

    As they started telling their story, they confessed that they did what they did because they won the lottery. It was a lot of money and they wanted a fresh start. They believed that if their families learned about the money they would start asking for it, and they didn’t want any obligations.

    Miriam couldn’t believe her ears. How could her daughter be so selfish?

    What obligations were they talking about? Paying back the money they borrowed from Frank’s parents? Being there for their cousin’s kids after they parents died? Were those the obligations they ran away from?

    Miriam was beyond shocked and disappointed. She somehow knew that one of the real reasons for Pamela and Frank’s stupid and selfish decision was to avoid paying taxes and once she mentioned that to them they started shifting the blame onto each other.

    Miriam had it enough. Her vacation was already ruined so she decided to return home and have no contact with her daughter and her son-in-law.

    She thought hard and the thought of what they did haunted her, but she eventually decided not to tell anyone about Pamela and Frank and not to report them to the police.

    Three years passed by, and one cold and rainy night someone knocked on Miriam’s door. When she answered it, she saw her daughter, all wet and shaking.

    “Mom, I have nowhere to go, please let me stay with you.” Miriam was hesitant. The last time she saw Pamela she wore expensive clothes and now she had an old shirt and ripped jeans on.

    After a few minutes, she let Pamela in.

    “Mom, Frank got involved in some bad investments. He lost almost all of the money and left with what was left. I have no idea where he is now,” she explained. “I miss you, Mom. I’m so sorry. For all of it.”

    Miriam needed time to process that information. She was mad at Pamela, but at the end of the day, she was her daughter and Miriam was determined to make her do the right thing.

    Explaining to Pamela the severity of the decision to fake her own death and avoid paying taxes, Miriam convinced Pamela to talk to the authorities although she was aware she could get prison time. But those were the consequences she was supposed to pay for forcing her mother and the entire family go through an ordeal.

    Pamela agreed it would be for the best if she went to the police, because no matter the aftermath, that was the only way she could get the chance for a fresh start in life.

    Netflix star tragically dies at 41

    Julián Ortega, the star of the Netflix series Elite died aged 41 after allegedly collapsing on a beach in Spain earlier this week.

    His sudden passing was announced by Spain’s national union of actors and actresses.

    “Actor Julián Ortega dies at the age of 41. Rest in peace. From the Union of Actors and Actresses, our most sincere condolences to the actor’s family and friends,” their statement read.

    The moment Ortega went into cardiac arrest, emergency services were alerted by beachgoers. Paramedics tried to revive the actor for 30 minutes, but failed to save his life.

    The tragedy happened below a beach bar on Zahora Beach in Barbate, south west of Marbella, Spain.

    According to the obituary, the late actor was a graduate of Madrid’s Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático. He appeared in six episodes of Elite as the manager of the beer and burger joint La Cabaña. He also appeared on the shows like Caronte, Velvet, and Netflix’s Cable Girls, the miniseries Untameable and the 2018 romcom MyLove Lost, among the rest.

    Tributes came pouring in from Ortega’s colleagues.

    His El Pueblo co-star Paco Collado shared his condolences, saying: “It was a great pleasure @julianortega_7 to play your father in @elpuebloserie you left us with sympathy, generosity and professionalism, many hugs friend and also to your family, a real shame in the prime of your youth, RIP Julian.”

    Two missing children reunited with their parents – Public stunned by the identity of the suspect

    Siblings Willow Bryant, 2, and Wyman Bryant, 4, who were reported missing on August 14, 2024, were located by the authorities, though it remains unclear where the young brother and sister were found. An Amber Alert was issued by the California Highway Patrol a few days later.

    The children were abducted by their biological parents, Tiffany Bryant, 39, and David James, 53, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

    During the past year, the children were in the foster care system after their youngest sibling was tested positive for drugs at birth. The suspects have been taken into custody.

    Nina Glass, the director of a Texas-based nonprofit that aided in the search, told Newsweek that the parents abducted Wyman and Willow during a supervised visit with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in South Los Angeles. They exited the facility through an emergency exit, leaving their youngest child, just 15-months-old, behind.

    “They are the type of people that can live off grid, if that makes sense. They like to be out there in the middle of nowhere,” Glass said of the parents. “State parks – we always say RV parks, rest areas, you might see them at truck stops because they’re nomadic. They live out of their car. They don’t really have an address.”

    This wasn’t the first time Bryant and James to abduct their children.

    The first occurrence happened last summer when their third child was born, and the children were located two months later. Allegedly, they regained visitation rights after that but under supervision.

    Elton John, 77, is experiencing limited vision. What is behind this issue?

    Following severe infection, music icon Sir Elton John has been left with “limited vision” in one eye.

    The 77-year-old singer took to Instagram to share details of his condition, stating he’s recovering.

    “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote on Instagram.

    “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

    The “Rocket Man” crooner added that he was “so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me.”

    Fellow musicians and fans sent their well wishes. “Prayers for healing, Sir Elton. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹,” a fan wrote. Another person shared similar sentiments, “Praying for healing for your eye🙏.” Someone else showed their support with, “Love❤️and prayers🙏❤️‍🩹🙌❤️.”

    Designer Donatella Versace commented: “Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you.” Tennis legend Billie Jean King wrote: “Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend.”

    This isn’t the first time the musician to experience health issues.

    Back in 2017, he was diagnosed with cancer, and in order to prevent it from spreading any further, he chose surgery over chemo treatments. Once known for working at a 120-show-per-year pace, Sir Elton John said he found himself “24 hours from death,” and that forced him to reconsider his priorities in life. 

    “Effectively my kids made the decision for me. I didn’t like the idea of cancer hanging over me—us—for years to come: I just wanted rid of it,” he wrote in his 2019 memoir, simply titled Me.

    Sadly, some ten days after the surgery, he began to develop agonizing pain resulting from a complication with his lymph nodes which caused them to leak fluids, as reported by Yahoo. He was on and off hospital for around two and a half months before doctors accidentally cured him. “A routine colonoscopy shifted the fluid permanently, days before my 70th birthday,” John wrote in his book, which was serialized in The Daily Mail.

    Sadly, as he thought his troubles were over, he contracted a major infection in South America and was close to death.

    “In a strange way, it felt like the time I spent recuperating was the answer to my prayers: if you want more time, you need to learn to live like this, you have to slow down,” the singer said. “It was like being shown a different life, a life I realized I loved more than being on the road,” John added. This made him make a decision to stop touring. “I want to be there for all of it,” he said of spending time with his sons.

    In 2023, the five-time Grammy winner experienced another health issue when he fell at his villa in Nice, France, leading to a brief hospitalization. He was later discharged.

    The teen idol of the 50s who saved his twins in the mysterious plane accident that led to his own death

    Ricky Nelson, born Eric Hilliard Nelson in Teaneck, New Jersey, on May 8, 1940, was one of rock music’s first teen idols.

    He rose to fame at a very young age when both he and his brother joined the cast of their parents’ sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.

    The sitcom ran for sixteen year, a period during which Ricky attended Gardner Street Public School and then reached Hollywood High School.

    He wasn’t fond of studying, which made his dad, Ozzie Nelson, mad because he wanted Ricky to go to college. However, as Ricky earned more than an adult would a year, around $100,000, his parents came to terms with his decision not to continue with his education.

    In an episode titled Ricky, the Drummer, then 17-year-old Ricky played a song, I’m Walking, recorded for the show, and it became an instant hit, reaching number 4 on Billboard’s Best Sellers list. It’s safe to say that it opened the doors to a completely new world for young Ricky, that of music.

    It didn’t take long before he released other songs and became a famous name in the industry. Other notable hits he released are Garden Party, Fools Rush In, For You, Poor Little Fool, and Travelin’ Man.

    In 1963, Ricky married Kristin Harmon, who shared similar background as him. The two had four children together, Sam Hilliard Nelson, twins Matthew Gray Nelson and Gunnar Eric Nelson, and daughter Tracy Kristine Nelson.

    At the beginning, their marriage was picture perfect, but then problems arouse as they both turned to a hippy lifestyle which involved plenty of alcohol. Eventually, Kristin filed for divorce and was given a temporary custody of the children. At the time, they both accused one another of poor parenting.

    Sadly, mere months after their split, Ricky got involved in a plane accident which claimed his life.

    From the moment he started touring, Rocky was uncomfortable with flying. He even attended psychotherapy sessions to help him overcome his fears and be able to tour and meet fans.

    For a New Year’s Show he was supposed to attend in Dallas, Ricky’s twins were about to accompany him. However, the singer had a strange feeling regarding the flight and decided to call his kids in the last moment and tell them they were not coming on the plane with him.

    “We were supposed to be on the plane on that trip. Our dad called us right before we were supposed to come down to Alabama and meet him and fly with him to the New Year’s show in Dallas,” Gunnar explained.

    Unfortunately, the DC-3 plane Ricky boarded with his then girlfriend Helen Blaine caught on fire and although the pilot was able to land it, the passengers died.

    Rumors were that the plane had problems with the gasoline heater. However, the real reason which led to the tragedy remains a mystery.

    Ricky’s gut feeling before the tragic flight which claimed his life helped prevent much larger tragedy from taking place.

    Today, his sons are musicians in their own right and continue their father’s legacy.

    “It’s an ongoing labor of love, an open letter to our dad, who was our best friend,” Matthew says.
