Missionary couple adopts embryos and gives birth to black triplets

Life is beautiful only when we realize that the differences and diversities are what make it whole and worth living. The sad reality is, however, that issues such as that of racism are still present in almost every diverse society. And as we very often hear of people hating each other or getting into conflicts only because of their skin color, stories such as that of Aaron Halbert and his wife remind us how things aren’t always as bad as they seem, because there are still people who only care if someone is a good human or not, regardless of their physical appearance.

This couple is white, and yet their kids are black, and they are the perfect family out there. They have two adopted children, a son who is an African-American, and a biracial daughter. Now their family got bigger as they welcomed their African-American triplets into their life.

Halbert, who is a devoted Christian and a missionary, talks about his family’s life in a post he wrote for the Washington Post. People loved what this man had to say and regarded his story one of the most inspirational ones they’ve ever stumbled upon.

It starts like this:

Aaron Halbert

“As I have made the stroll from my wife’s hospital room to the NICU these past few days it has been hard to fathom the way that our family has been put together.”

Aaron Halbert

“This past Sunday, my gorgeous wife – a white evangelical, like me — gave birth to our beautiful African-American triplet daughters whom we adopted as embryos. These sweet girls will hopefully soon be coming home to meet their 3-year-old African-American brother and 2-year-old biracial sister, both of whom we adopted as infants. The normalcy of this paragraph is something I have come to take for granted. Yet what seems to us to be the logical outcome of being pro-life is still something that to others often needs much explaining.”

Aaron Halbert

“I grew up as a child of evangelical missionaries in Honduras, very aware of racial diversity because I was the blue-eyed, cotton-topped white kid who stuck out like a sore thumb, but all the while felt deeply connected to the people there, even though we looked very different. My wife, on the other hand, grew up in the delta of Mississippi and it wasn’t until she took a few trips to Haiti that the veil of racial prejudice was lifted from her eyes. One of the central themes of Christianity is, after all, that God, through His Son, is calling people from every tongue, tribe and nation. Grasping diversity will make the world stronger as we marvel at God’s creative genius on display through His people’s varying pigments, personalities and proficiencies. Our differences are cause for celebration, not scorn.”

Aaron Halbert

Both Aaron and Rachel always loved the idea of adopting children. So when they were in the States, some years into their marriage, they visited an adoption agency in Mississippi. Not only that, but they requested to be able to adopt any child except for a fully Caucasian child. It was like that because they knew their biological children, if they had any, would be white, and they wanted a diverse family.

Aaron Halbert

Being missionaries and people of God, this beautiful couple believed that it was God’s will for them to become adoptive parents and change a child’s life forever. “When we adopt, we are echoing his own compassionate work, giving the world a glimpse of the truth and beauty of the gospel,” Aaron wrote.

Aaron Halbert

Aaron added how they believe that each person is a unique creation by God, and race should never be something that divide us. On the contrary, we should accept it and embrace it.

Aaron Halbert

“There is something beautiful and enriching being the only white face sitting and chatting with some of my African-American friends as my son gets his hair cut on a Saturday morning. There is also something wonderful in the relationship that is built as my wife asks a black friend on Facebook how to care for our little biracial daughter’s hair. The beauty of a multi-ethnic family is found there, in the fact that the differences are the very thing that make ours richer and fuller. It forces you to think in a new way about the way you think, speak, act and live.”

Aaron Halbert

Of course, there have always been people who stare and wonder why a white family has black or biracial children. But there are also those whose faces smile when they see this beautiful blended family.

Aaron Halbert

Although they already had their plate full with all the commitments around their two children, Rachel and Aaron started considering adopting an embryo after a friend mentioned the idea. That is when they visited the National Embryo Donation Center, a Christian embryo bank.

Aaron Halbert

As they wanted their two children to feel connected with the ones they were eager to welcome into the world, the couple opted for embryos of an African-American donor.

“In September of last year, we had two embryos implanted and began the long wait to see whether the transfer was successful. The day to visit the doctor could not come fast enough. Six weeks after the transfer we made a very nervous trip to the local hospital in Honduras, where we were serving as full-time missionaries. We began to describe everything to our doctor in Spanish (broken Spanish, that is). He asked us a few times if we were sure that we had transferred two embryos. Yes, of course we were sure, we said. However, one of those embryos had split in two inside Rachel’s womb. She was indeed pregnant- not only with twins, but triplets!”

Aaron Halbert

Everyone was happy for this family. Looking at them, many of their friends decided to follow their path and adopt African-American children.

Aaron Halbert

Aaron ended his post writing: “This is not the way we planned it 12 years ago when we were dating and talking about adoption, but oh, how thankful we are for God blessing us with these sweet little ones He has placed in our care. I can remember a friend going through the adoption process telling me he had always wanted his family to look like a little United Nations. As I look at my growing family, I prefer to take it a step further, daring to hope that our family picture is a little hint of Heaven.”

Officer responds to a welfare check and it leads to a new fridge filled with food for an elderly lady

Helping one another when we need it the most is what makes this world go round. The beautiful thing about humans is that most of them would go above and beyond for others, many times, even for complete strangers.

Officer Dustin Kincaid from the Seguin Police Department responded to a routine welfare check not assuming it would lead to something truly beautiful. Namely, as he entered the home of the elderly lady, he didn’t notice anything worrying. The woman seemed to be doing well, but Officer Dustin thought he could spare a minute or two and engage into a conversation with her.

That’s when he learned that the woman’s refrigerator wasn’t working. Having in mind this happened mid-July when the temperatures are pretty high, he knew he needed to do something about it.

Photo by Abdullah Ahmad on Unsplash

“I was just talking to her a little bit and she told me her refrigerator went out, she’s on a fixed income and she didn’t know how she would get it fixed or get a new one and afford to buy food,” he told the Seguin Gazette.

The first thing that came to his mind was reaching to his department and asking if anyone was willing to help the lady. To his amusement, almost everyone agreed to lend a helping hand. “I am blown away from the response that I got from my fellow officers and co-workers at the Seguin Police Department,” Officer Dustin said.

In no time, the department bought a brand new fridge and filled it with food.

“There are too many SPD employees, both sworn and non-sworn who gave their personal time and money to help out this lovely lady who needed a hand to name,” Chief Terry Nichols shared on Facebook.

The good thing is that the friendship between the caring officer and the elderly lady didn’t stop there. On the contrary, he decided to pay her a visit at least once a week to make sure she has everything she needs. What a thoughtful thing to do. Thank you, officers!

William is tired of Harry and Meghan’s “nonsense” and is set to take “decisive action,” royal commentators claim

Despite the attempts to smooth things over, it seems like the feud between the members of the British Royalty is still going on, and Prince William has had it enough of the accusations and the harsh words addressed to his family by his brother and sister-in-law.

It all started with the Sussexes’ decision to step down from their royal duties shortly after Archie was born. It was reported that they made the decision without consulting Queen Elizabeth, which enraged her. Harry and Meghan moved to Canada but settled down in California soon after.

Shutterstock

What followed was the infamous Oprah interview during which Harry said how he didn’t know he was trapped inside his family until he met his wife.

“I wouldn’t have been able to because I myself was trapped, I didn’t see a way out. I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped. But the moment that I met Meg, and our worlds collided in the most amazing of ways and then [I began] to see how trapped within the system, like, the rest of my family are.

“My father and my brother, they are trapped,” Harry added. “They don’t get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that.”

As expected, neither William nor Prince Charles were happy with Harry’s words. However, they decided not to answer back. It was the Queen who released an official statement saying the family will solve matter privately and that Harry and Meghan will always be much loved members of the family.

However, the Sussexes didn’t stop there. After the interview, Harry spoke about his family once again saying he was thinking of leaving his family when he was in his twenties and that he’s now trying to put a stop to the cycle of genetic pain which comes with being royalty.

At the time, Prince William commented that his family wasn’t racist. He even tried making things right with his brother after prince Philip’s funeral, but Harry wasn’t happy speaking to his brother and father without Meghan by his side. He was reported to have said that he felt “ambushed.”

As quoted by Express, US Weekly’s Christina Garibaldi, a royal commentator, said at the time: “William thinks Harry chose fame over family. A source tells us that ‘William feels that Harry has got too big for his boots since moving to California and that success and Hollywood has gone to his head.’”

Now, other experts, among which Nick Bullen, speak of the relationship between the brothers. Speaking to US Magazine, Bullen said that William was “shocked by the amount of things that his brother has said over the last few weeks.”

“I’m sure the Royal Family and the various royal households just want a moment of calm and are saying, ‘Let’s not have any more headlines,’” he added. “‘Let’s just have a period when no one’s speaking.’”

But as it turns out, William won’t take any more “nonsense” from his brother.

“Most people thought the main blame for the fall-out was not Meghan, but instead the brothers themselves,” royal expert Charlotte Griffiths said as quoted by Express. “A new picture is emerging that William is much tougher in this situation than we previously thought. He is very, very firm. He was much tougher behind the scenes very early on.”

According to her, William is changing tactics when it comes to his brother and his wife. “William had felt that the smoothing over hadn’t been working for quite a long time at that moment. He felt decisive action was needed, that he needed to play them at their own game,” Griffith adds.

Now that Harry and Meghan are planning on becoming influencers, William is “dreading” their next move, as per royal author Duncan Larcombe.

He also said that Harry and Meghan have to “stop cashing in on the brand” by “continually talking about the royals” as they move on. “What do they do next? That’s a question Prince William is dreading the answer to,” Larcome told OK! Magazine.

“Ultimately, they have to find a way to do their work in LA while not trading on the royal brand. Prince Harry hasn’t exactly been subtle,” Larcombe added.

Donny Osmond on his religious views and one of his deepest regrets

Each human being is different, so it is inherent for different individuals to have different opinions on the same subject. Many, however, are not respectful of other people’s perspectives and tend to be judgmental. Famous singer and host Donny Osmond knows this all too well.

Donny, 63, was dubbed a teen idol back in the day. His incredible talent for music has been capturing the hearts of many ever since he was just a five-year-old boy.

He and his four brothers, who were older than him, formed the group Osmond Brothers and performed on stage. People fell for the charisma of the sweet boy and Donny’s fame only grew bigger and bigger over the years. The group earned several top ten hits and gold albums, success that Donny later achieved again as a solo artist and while performing with his sister Marie.

When he was nine, Donny felt like he was done with touring and felt homesick. He even recalls writing his mom a letter and begging her to go and bring him home while he was performing three shows a day in Sweden with his dad George. In fact, it was George who pushed his children into the music industry and believed Donny’s marriage would affect his career.

Donny spoke to The Guardian in 2017 of the time he was 20 and told his dad he would marry Debbie Glenn, saying, “When I told my dad, he said, ‘Well, there goes your career, but this is ushering in your personal life.”

Loved for his music and his appearance on shows like Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer, Donny is one of the most appreciated music stars.

However, it is his religion and his beliefs that caused stir among the public and many of his fans in the past. Being a Mormon, Donny took a stand on homosexuality and many got mad at him for his outdated thoughts on gay marriage.

Shutterstock

In fact, he said how he has a lot of gay friends, among which many who are part of the Mormon church, but said how he supports the church’s position to only accept gay people who are in celibacy.

“I do support our church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations,” Donny said in 2006. “My beliefs about marriage [are] beautifully stated in The Family – A Proclamation To The World, a document published by the leaders of our church back in 1995. I am going to include it here.”

“Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and… the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children,” the church stated.

He then finished his reasoning saying, “I am not a judge, and I will never judge anyone for the decisions they make unless they are causing harm to another individual. I love my friends, including my gay friends. We are all God’s children. It is their choice, not mine, on how they conduct their lives and choose to live the commandments according to the dictates of their own conscience.”

Shutterstock

He stated how he doesn’t condemn homosexuality but he is against gay marriage.

During an interview with Barbara Walters who believed fans would expect from her to ask Donny and his sister Marry about their view on why their church didn’t allow black people to be priests there, she said, “I have to ask you something that I know you have heard about, and if I do not ask it people will wonder why I did not. And that is, in the strength of your religion, the whole business about blacks not being allowed to be priests… Tell me how you feel about it and what the explanation of that is.”

“Well, I’m not an authority on the subject,” Donny answered. “But I will mention that we are not prejudiced people. We offer more, I think, than any other religion to the black person.”

He also said, “[Black people are] not allowed to hold priesthood right now, and I do not know why, but that’s the way the Lord wants it.”

When asked of the secondary position of the women in the Mormon Church, Marie said, “Secondary, no. But you have to remember that you need a patriarch at the head of the home, and this is the way that I feel. You need someone to run the home. The woman is equally as important but as far as speaking her mind, that should be the man’s job.” This interview took place around 40 years ago, and things have drastically changed since then.

YouTube/SuchIsLifeVideos

In fact, Marie’s daughter Jessica came out as gay in 2009 and got married to her girlfriend Sara after same sex marriages were legalized and Marie took to Twitter to congratulate them on their marriage.

In 2013, Marie explained, “The God that I believe in is a god of love, not fear. I believe in [my daughter’s] civil rights, as a mother… I don’t think God made one color flower, I think he made many.”

Today, Donny and his wife are grandparents to ten grandchildren and raised their five sons as Mormons. He spoke during one occasion, while answering a fan’s question about missionary work that he deeply regretted he didn’t go on a full-time missions, but four of his sons have and his fifth is about to.

“At that time, some church leaders encouraged my brothers and me to continue to perform because we were getting a lot of attention as ‘Mormons,’ and yes, it did bring a lot of attention to the Church and may have even caused some to investigate our faith, but I still missed the personal experience of serving,” Donny explained.

Today, Donny leads a quiet life with his family and he still performs together with his sister.

Bride is left speechless at the altar after her husband-to-be reveals he can walk again

When Kim and Kevin first met, they clicked right away and somehow knew they were made for each other. So, they decided to tie the knot and spend the rest of their lives together. And as every couple, these two wanted their wedding day to be perfect so they got busy preparing for it. But Kevin had a surprise for his wife and did something “behind her back,” something she will never forget.

Namely, when Kevin was very young, he broke his leg and that fracture damaged one of his nerves, which led to reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome, or RSDS. After many doctor visits and procedures, his legs were amputated because the condition became so severe that nothing could be done. That left Kevin wheelchair bound. However, his condition didn’t stop Kim from falling for him as she always looked beyond his disability.

Speaking about him, she says, “It’s the person the inside, not who they are physically. His heart makes up for any lack of limbs that he has.”

On their wedding day, Kim was eagerly waiting to walk down the aisle where her love was waiting for her, but as she made the first step, she broke down in tears. Kevin stood up from the wheelchair and started walking towards her. This entire time, he was learning how to walk again so that he could give his wife the surprise of her life.

No dry eye could be seen at the church that day. Everyone was very happy for both Kim and Kevin.

This emotional story is something you don’t want to miss. Take a look at it below.

First Lady Jill Biden undergoes medical procedure after stepping on object at Hawaiian beach

Jill Biden follows quite a tight schedule when it comes to her duties as a First Lady. Her recent engagements involved a visit to the Alaska Native Medical Center after which she flew to Tokyo where she met with the country’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his wife, Mariko Suga, at Akasaka Palace.

Considering the fact that the number of people who could attend the Olympics in Tokyo this year is limited because of the restrictions imposed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many of the athletes are there without their friends and families by their side. Luckily, the First Lady made sure she met with the members of the team U.S. who are part of the Olympic Games.

She even attended the U.S. vs Mexico softball watch party held at the U.S. Embassy for staff and their families to cheer on U.S. athletes. Jill Biden said it was very important to support our athletes who are competing under different conditions this year.

Following her Tokyo visit, Jill Biden flew to Hawaii as part of her engagement of encouraging more Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Hawaii News Now reported that the First Lady’s trip included a visit of a clinic and a barbecue at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam with military families. She also used the opportunity to give a speech at a school’s library and express her gratitude to the teachers from all over the country for everything they are doing for the students during the time of pandemic.

“Before we start this year, I want to say thank you for all that you did last year — and it was difficult,” she said, as reported by People.

“There were times when you probably wondered if you were going to really make it through all the chaos, but you did what educators what educators do best: You made something out of nothing. you persevered and you supported your students.”

Jill Biden is a teacher herself. One thing that makes her one of our favorite First Ladies ever is that she didn’t quit her job after she moved into the White House. On the contrary, she felt her place was among her students, a true characteristic of a dedicated educator.

Currently, she is teaching writing at Northern Virginia Community College. Previously, she was teaching at a community college, at a public high school, and at a psychiatric hospital for adolescents. Jill Biden has two masters degrees and a doctorate of education.

However, while in Hawaii, she experienced something unpleasant. As reported by her spokesperson, Michael LaRosa, prior to her official events in Hawaii, “the First Lady stepped on an object on the beach which became lodged in her left foot.”

“She will undergo a procedure today (Thursday) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to remove the object. The President will join her,” the statement further read.

Back in April, it was reported that Jill Biden undergone a “common medical procedure” and that her husband, President Joe Biden, accompanied her. However, no further details have been revealed.

Jill Biden is a true inspiration. We wish her speedy recovery.

Disabled man’s life changes completely after meeting a complete stranger who offered him a ride

Many times, when we feel most vulnerable, help comes from unexpected places.

The life story of James Fox from North Miami is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. This man was born with partial and malformed arms and legs, but with the help of his parents and his family he managed to learn how to accept his disability. Or so it seemed.

Over the years, James fell into depression a lot of times. Life hasn’t been easy for him at all. But one encounter with a total stranger changed it all.

Source: YouTube/ Humankind

One day, as James was going to his mother’s place, while he was homeless himself, a man driving a truck pulled over and offered him a ride. James, who is moving around using a skateboard, refused the offer. However, the man, Dan Crieghton, who is a chief executive officer of Creighton Construction and Development, couldn’t stop thinking about James and how hard his life must have been.

After speaking to his son, they both agreed that they should step up for James and offered to buy him an electric wheechair, but James refused that offer too.

Years after, Dan came across James once again. This time, James’ life was extremely hard. He told Dan how he was completely on his own as both his parents died and he was thinking of taking his own life. He also said that he struggled with anxiety and quit his job as a softer developer, the only thing that made him happy.

Without hesitating, Dan offered James a ride, and this time, he accepted it. Dan then took James to his office and gave him a $10,000 check. It was just a start towards James’ new life.

James became like family to Dan who helped him join a sobriety program at the local church and even bought him an accessible apartment near his home. Dan’s family organized a welcoming party for James, with a huge “welcome home” cake and guests. Shortly after, James was able to go back to working with computers once again.

On top of everything Dan did for his new friends, he also started a GoFundMe page which raised $10,000 in a short period of time.

“I love you, Dan, and I really can never repay the way you have changed my life with your kindness and generosity,” James said.

It’s incredible how a single encounter can change someone’s life for the better so drastically. We are happy for James and thankful to Dan and his family for accepting the young man into their lives.

Chrissy Metz, the star of “This is Us,” posts pictures following inspirational weight-loss journey

The number of people who dream of becoming celebrities and reaching for the starts is huge. However, the path to Hollywood and all its glam is hard and not many get to live the life it offers. So, despite being talented and having high aspirations, one needs to be lucky to get into the showbiz and make a name for themselves.

Chrissy Metz is a name we are all familiar with. She is a singer and an actress best known for her role as Kate Pearson in the television series This Is Us. However, before she got into the spotlight, she went through a rough childhood and struggled with her weight basically her whole life. Today, she’s a role model many look up to.

Shutterstock

Chrissy was born on September 29, 1980, in Homestead, Florida, but she and her family moved to Japan when she was just a baby. Her father, whom she considers a stranger, was stationed there as a naval officer. When Chrissy turned eight, the family moved back to the States again and her parents divorced. Ever since the split, it was her mother who took care of her and her brother and sister.

However, raising three children on her own wasn’t easy for Chrissy’s mom. The actress recalls how they often didn’t have money to provide food, but their mom never stopped trying to give them the best life she could.

Youtube/Chrissy Metz

“There were times I’d be nervous walking home from elementary school, thinking, If that red tag from the power company saying our lights are turned off is on the door handle, I don’t know what I’ll do,” Chrissy told Glamour.

“And there were nights my mom wouldn’t eat dinner. She’d be like, ‘Oh, I’m not hungry.’ I knew she was giving up food to make sure we could eat, but when you’re 9 or 10 years old, you can’t help. It was devastating.”

Chrissy learned how to find her comfort in food and at the age of 11 she went to Weight Watchers.

Shutterstock

According to the actress’ memoir This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today, released in 2018, things with her weight became even more complex after her stepfather entered her life. He often joked how he would lock up the fridge and starred at her while she was eating.

“He’d get the scale from the bathroom and clang it hard on the kitchen floor. ‘Well, get on the damn thing!’” she wrote. “He sat in a chair next to the scale as I got on. ‘Good God almighty!’ he yelled every single time. The number then was about 140 or 130. Most of my friends weighed about ninety pounds. ‘Why are you getting fatter?’ he demanded. I look at pictures of me from that time, and I would be so fine with being that size now. But I thought I was gigantic.”

Her stepdad denied any of this ever happened and told Entertainment Tonight how he always supported her and loved her as though she was his own daughter. Today, they have a good relationship.

Shutterstock

After hear her singing Beautiful by Christina Aguilera at a talent show, one of the talent agents suggested she move to Los Angeles and lose some weight. Before she embarked on the journey, she lost 50 pounds.

Before her 30th birthday, Chrissy ended up in the hospital because she believed she had a heart attack. Her doctors told her she only had a panic attack and advised her to lose weight. She spoke of that experience, saying, “I’m like, ‘What is this? Am I dying? What’s happening?’ It was really scary — really, really, really scary.”

“You can’t continue on this path,” she told People. This made her aware that she has to change something about herself. She turned to a diet and lost around 100 pounds.

Shutterstock

In 2014, Chrissy got a role in American Horror Story.

After this, she auditioned for the role that brought her two Golden Globes and an Emmy nomination, that of Kate in This is Us. Chrissy believed that she and the character had a lot in common and wished she got the role really badly. At the time, she had only 82 cents in her pocket and was living with a friend because she couldn’t afford to pay rent.

“I went on unemployment. I bought ramen noodles at dollar stores and I never had to — God forbid — live on the streets; I moved in with a roommate who told me, ‘Stay with me until you can afford rent. Don’t give up.’ People who supported me were like, ‘If you don’t have money for food, I’ll cook you dinner. You don’t have money for acting class? Let’s get together and read lines,’” Chrissy recalled.

Youtube/Chrissy Metz

But then, her life changed after Dan Fogelman called her and told her she got the part.

As a very successful plus-size woman, Chrissy broke stigmas and barriers and became a role model for many women from all over the world. “I’ve had women — average women, older women, teenagers —  who say to me, ‘Your role and this show has changed my life’,” she says.

Today, Chrissy is very happy with her boyfriend Bradley Collins, who works in the music industry. “Bradley, from the first moment I laid eyes on you I wanted and needed to know you. Now I feel so lucky to love you,” she wrote on her Instagram. “Thank you for being the absolute wonder that you are, I love you.”

We are very happy Chrissy found her soulmate and we can’t wait to see more from her in the years to come.
