Mother of teen stabbed at school track meet breaks silence

The tragic passing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a Frisco ISD student-athlete, has resonated deeply within his Texas community.

Austin was tragically stabbed to death at a champions meet on April 2. Reportedly, he died in his twin’s brother’a arms.

According to witnesses, Austin got into an argument with another student, also 17, Karmelo Anthony, allegedly over a camping spot.

Sadly, as the argument got heated, Karmelo stubbed Austin in the heart, leaving him to bleed to death in his twin brother’s arms.

Austin was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Hi brother, Hunter, recalled the incident.

“This kid was sitting under our tent at track, we asked him to move. He started getting aggressive and talking reckless and my brother stepped in and said, ‘you need to move,’” Hunter explained. “And he’s like, ‘Make me move.’”

A person who was at the scene said everything escalated very quickly. “Touch me and see what happens,” Karmelo allegedly said before he pulled a black knife and stabbed Austin after fleeing the scene.

Karmelo was later arrested but claimed he attacked Austin during an act of self-defense.

“They were twins, identical twins. And his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” the devastated father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

“I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him.

“This is murder.”

The devastated mother of the stabbed teen also broke her silence after her son’s tragic passing.

”My son is gone, and I don’t really have words,” Meghan Metcalf shared on The Will Cain Show and added: ”He’s just going to be so missed by mostly our family, but this whole community has really wrapped their arms around us. If I could say anything to the nation, I would say to make sure that you just hug your babies tight, because you don’t know when [is] the last time you get to do it.”

She said she has a hard time understanding how could a moment of anger lead to such a devastating loss.

“Just because the kid was mad – my son is not here anymore and I don’t understand it,” she said. “I am so angry at that boy. It’s just not fair.”

Austin was loved by the entire community and everyone who’s ever met him. He was a very successful athlete and a raising star.

The father of the killer, who has been since charged with first degree murder, claimed his son is a good boy who acted in self-defense.

Grieving parents of 10-year-old who died by suicide share the warning signs they noticed

Parents of 10-year-old Autumn Bushman, a fourth-grader at Roanoke’s Mountain View Elementary School, shared their heartbreak over their daughter’s sudden passing and spoke of the events that led to the tragedy.

Mark and Summer Bushman say they have noticed their daughter’s behavior change weeks prior to her devastating decision to take her own life.

“She was the youngest and probably the wildest,” Autumn’s mother Summer said. “She was a ball full of energy. It didn’t matter if you thought she was going to fall through my living room floor. She was at it with the cartwheels inside of my house at all times.”

The Bushman family told WDBJ that Autumn stared sleeping more, smiled less, and wore clothes darker in color than usual in the weeks preceding the tragedy.

Her obituary said she was a child who had “deep empathy, was soft-hearted, and always ready to lend a listening ear or offer support.”

Sadly, Autumn was a victim of b******g. Her parents allegedly knew about the ordeal their daughter was going through and reported it to the school, but the school didn’t take much action

Students at the school harassed Autumn because she always stood up for others and didn’t stay silent when something felt wrong.

“She was one if somebody was getting b*****d or picked on, she would stand up for them. And unfortunately, that may have made her a target for more b******g,” Summer Bushman said.

Sadly, Autumn wasn’t only target while at school, but through the social media too.

“This is an age where they have tablets and they have phones, so it’s happening around the clock. They can’t really escape,” her dad said.

In a statement to WDBJ, the Roanoke County Public Schools described Autumn’s death as a “tragic loss” and said that they would “stand in support of the family, friends, and Mountain View community.”

“While we cannot discuss the specifics of this situation due to federal privacy laws and out of respect for the family, we are conducting a thorough review. Our schools take all reports of bullying and conflicts among students very seriously”, the statement read.

“Our schools educate students and respond appropriately to specific situations when we are made aware, including working with parents and families of students involved.”

Autumn’s mom is urging other parents out there to act if they notice anything unusual about their children’s behavior in order to stop tragedies like this from taking place.

“Go through your child’s cell phone to make sure that they are being kind to other children [and] to make sure children are being kind to them,” she said.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the grieving family.

What’s the purpose of the fabric strip across hotel beds?

Most of us have stayed at a hotel at some point in our life, and no matter if our experience has been a pleasant one or not, we’ve probably noticed the long strip of fabric lying across the foot of the beds and wondered about its purpose.

Well, if you are a frequent visitor of different hotels you are probably already familiar with the function it serves. However, those of you who believe it’s only there just to make the bed look better, you might be wrong.

In fact, the fabric strip placed across beds at hotels is there for a reason.

Namely, one of the purposes it serves is to protect the bedding. Namely, guests often toss their suitcases and clothes on the bed when entering the room, so the fabric runner on the bed acts like a protective barrier. Since their color is often dark, they don’t get as dirty as the white sheets, right?

Further, it also serves as a food placement, with guests placing their food on it in order to avoid spills and crumbs on the linen.

Many of the guests rest their feet on the linen, again, protecting the white sheets from getting dirty.

The not so good thing about the fabric strip placed across hotel beds is that it doesn’t get cleaned as often as the bed sheets because it doesn’t get dirty as much.

Since bed runners protect the bed from getting dirty by the guests’ shoes, feet, and luggage and are not that clean, you may want to take them off completely before taking a good night sleep.

Next time you are at a hotel room and you spot a bed runner, you’ll know its purpose.

Although it seems like a minor detail, it plays a big part in style, comfort, and cleanliness.

Grandmother reveals what she looked like before full body tattoos

Tattoos! You either love them or hate them. While many are convinced that tattoos are a unique form of self-expression, others find them unappealing and even terrifying.

Kerstin Tristan is a 56-year-old mother and grandmother who drastically changed her looks when she decided to spend all her life savings on inking her body — almost all of it.

The thing is, when we think of grandmothers, tattoos and other forms of body modification aren’t exactly the first things that come to mind — in fact, they might not come to mind at all.

But Kerstin isn’t your typical grandmother. She is a tattoo lover who doesn’t seem to stop getting them, at least not any time soon.

What’s interesting about this woman is that not only did she not have any tattoos until 2015, but she even hated them. However, everything changed when she got her first.

“I simply just wanted to try something new. We all live just once, and I thought that at my age, something real has to come,”  she revealed.

Ever since she got her first tattoo, Kerstin has spent over $30,000 on tattoos only.

Her looks is so captivating, that she has thousands of followers on TikTok and millions of views on her videos.

Some of her tattoos include roses on her legs, a leopard print tattoo on her shoulders, and several detailed portraits on her arms.

”When I look at myself in the mirror, I see a beautiful meadow full of flowers that one has to love,” she says.

Kerstin receives plenty of comments on the photos she shares of herself, with people calling her bold and unique.

“A beautiful work of art,” someone commented on a photo of her. “Wow stunning photo,” another added.

Recently, she shared a photo of herself before she fell in love with inking and the difference is stunning.

Allegedly, this grandmother once confessed that her decision to cover her body in tattoos was because she didn’t love her skin.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova hits out after fencer disciplined for kneeling and refusing to face trans athlete

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova shared her feelings over a controversy at the Cherry Blossom tournament in the United States when fencer Stephanie Turner took a knee in protest and refused to compete against a trans athlete.

Following her action, Turner was shown a black card, which meant she was disqualified from the tournament.

This comes at a time when the issue of transwomen competing in female sports has been a hot topic after President Donald Trump signed an executive order stating that the government of the United States only recognizes two genders: male and female.

Martina Navratilova, who has been vocal against transgender women competing against biological women commented on the incident involving fencer Turner.

“This is what happens when female athletes protest!,” she wrote on X. “Anyone here still thinks this is fair??? I am fuming… and shame on @USAFencing, shame on you for doing this. How dare you throw women under the gender bulls*** bus!!!”

A fan responded to her post, saying that in fencing, men and women should be able to compete against each other, but the 18-time Grand Slam winner didn’t agree.

“You would believe wrong,” Navratilova answered back. “Strength matters in most sports and it certainly matters in fencing. And that’s just one advantage.”

Martina/X

In the past, Navratilova has reportedly sent a letter urging the NCAA to ban trans women from women’s sports and became a leader of the Women’s Sports Policy Working Group, formed in response to Joe Biden’s inclusive mandate.

She also boycotted Nike when they paired with transgender TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Turner’s opponent, whom she refused to compete against, Redmond Sullivan, was born in 2005 as a male who competed in the men’s division until September 2024 when he transferred to Wagner College’s women’s team.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Turner said, “I saw that I was going to be in a pool with Redmond, and from there I said, ‘OK, let’s do it. I’m going to take the knee.

“I knew what I had to do because USA Fencing had not been listening to women’s objections. I took a knee immediately at that point. Redmond [Sullivan] was under the impression that I was going to start fencing.

“So when I took the knee, I looked at the ref and I said: ‘I’m sorry, I cannot do this. I am a woman, and this is a man, and this is a women’s tournament. And I will not fence this individual.

“Redmond didn’t hear me, and he comes up to me, and he thinks that I may be hurt, or he doesn’t understand what’s happening. He asks: ‘Are you OK?’ And I said: ‘I’m sorry. I have much love and respect for you, but I will not fence you.”

The USA Fencing also responded to the incident.

In a statement, they wrote: “USA Fencing enacted our current transgender and non-binary athlete policy in 2023.

“The policy was designed to expand access to the sport of fencing and create inclusive, safe spaces. The policy is based on the principle that everyone should have the ability to participate in sports and was based upon the research available of the day.”

Their message continued: “We respect the viewpoints on all sides and encourage our members to continue sharing them with us as the matter evolves.

“It’s important for the fencing community to engage in this dialogue, but we expect this conversation to be conducted respectfully, whether at our tournaments or in online spaces.

“The way to progress is by respectful discussion based in evidence.”

Sullivan’s team expressed their opinion on the matter, stating that Redmond Sullivan, as someone who declares themselves as a transgender individual, had all the right to take part in the women’s fencing tournament.

After 10 years in a tiny cage, bears take their first steps toward freedom

Animal rescue stories restore our faith in humanity! No animal deserves to spend their life in captivity or in the hands of neglectful owners who make their days a living hell.

Misha and Dasha are two lovely bears that spent ten years of their lives caged near a restaurant in Armenia located at a river bank.

Their cage was small, with barely enough space for animals of their kind. They spent their days pacing back and forth with no room for anything else. The saddest part of all was that the cage was often flooded.

Desperate to get out of the cage, they would often bang their heads against the metal bars while tourists who were enjoying their meal watched them and didn’t do anything.

The poor animals served as tourist attractions, living in misery and desperation.

One time, when the waters from the river raised, they nearly engulfed their tiny cage. Misha and Dasha struggled to stay afloat and barely survived.

”A few years back, the river flooded, and the bears almost drowned,” said Lis Key, PR and communications manager for International Animal Rescue (IAR). ”The rescue team had to cut through the cages to release them, so they must have been trapped when the river flooded and in serious danger of drowning.”

IAR fought to rescue the bears for a long time, but they couldn’t do much because the restaurant’s owner refused to release them. Eventually, with the help of the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), they tried to convince him to set them free.

Finally, after years of abuse and neglect, Misha and Dasha were transported to a beautiful sanctuary in the mountains. They could roam free and experience the beauty of freedom.

As winter approached, the two bears settled inside a cave to hibernate, and with the spring came something extraordinary.

Dasha had given birth to two cubs.

At the time of her rescue, the rescuers were unaware that she was carrying babies.

“She received all necessary care after being rescued, enough fruits, veggies, nuts, and honey to gain weight and fat before hibernation… But nobody guessed her good appetite was a result of pregnancy,” Vicky Mkrtchyan, environmental projects coordinator for FPWC, said.

These two bears left their suffering behind and started a new life, one that they have always deserved to have.

The bear family of four is now thriving and enjoying their days in their natural habitat.

Elephant rescued after over 80 years in shackles

Life in captivity is the worst form of living. Sadly, many animals experience this fate because of humans’ cruelty. Among them is an elephant named Grandma Somboon that spent over 80 years in captivity.

This poor animal was taken from the wild as a calf and spent her life carrying tourists and performing in shows.

Eventually, Somboon caught the attention of Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand, an organization fighting for the elephants held in captivity.

“It’s time for Grandma to be cared for well and allowed to rest,” the rescue shared on Facebook last year and added: “We’re on a rescue mission to protect Somboon and transport her to her final true home.”

It didn’t take long before they succeeded in their mission to finally give the beautiful animal the life she has always deserved.

Free from the shackles, Somboon was transported to the Elephant Nature Park sanctuary.

However, it didn’t mean her ordeal was over.

Sadly, the years of hard labor and neglect took their toll on her health and her body.

Emaciated, with a missing tooth, severely dehydrated, and with blurry eyes, she still had a long way to go until full recovery.

“Upon arrival, many new elephants, still plagued by paranoia and lack of trust, take weeks before they will lie down,” the rescue wrote.

“However, Grandma Somboon defied the norm. Exhausted from her journey and a lifetime of hardship, she promptly sought the sand pile prepared for her, sleeping soundly amidst the bustling activities around her.”

Being exhausted from the hard life she has led for over 80 years, the first thing Somboon did after being taken to her new sanctuary was lay down and take some rest.

For the first time in 8 decades, she could sleep without chains on her ancles.

Her rescuers were scared that she wouldn’t be able to adjust, but she did.

Somboon surprises everyone with the progress she makes every single day.

For this poor elephant, life finally felt good again.

We are so glad there are rescue groups who give neglected and abused animals a new lease on life.

Calls for Lawrence Jones to be fired after one big mistake

Host and reporter Lawrence Jones, who’s been a staple on Fox News since 2018, triggered criticism by the general public.

Namely, Jones posted photos of himself alongside U.S. Border Protection agents wearing a bulletproof vest. “Coming up on Fox News live from the border,” he captioned the post.

What he probably didn’t expect was the avalanche of comments mocking him and asking him to be fired.

According to many, wearing a bulletproof west while standing on US soil and pretending to be at a war zone is unprofessional and unacceptable.

“Does ‘live from the border’ mean Party City?” Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a congresswoman from New York, commented on Jones’ post.

“Fox is really out here doing the most on a budget to make the border look more dangerous than it is,” she added.

Lawrence Jones Wearing BulletProof Vest

Jacob Soboroff, a correspondent for MSNBC, dubbed Jones’ decision to wear a vest “totally ridiculous”.

“I have never once worn a bulletproof vest at the border, nor has [US Customs and Border Protection] ever asked me to – even while on a chase with Border Patrol to apprehend migrants in remote Arizona desert in the middle of the night,” he said.

“Because. The. Border. Is. Not. A. War. Zone.”

The Libertarian political commentator tried to defend himself saying that it was the agents who told him to put the vest on, just to make sure he stays safe.

There were also those who mocked the size of the vest, with writer Jessica Luther asking, ”what is this? A vest for ants?”

NBC News producer and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Mac William Bishop remarked, “I’ve previously criticized journos for playing dress-up in PPE. Last time it was someone who worked for MSNBC. This time it’s someone who works for Fox. Being a poseur with no respect for journalistic integrity and lacking common sense about how PPE works is a non-partisan flaw.”

Besides being criticized for the photos he shared, Jones also faced backlash for adding to Fox News’ portrayal of unrest, danger, and calls for stronger security.

“Need a good laugh? Check this out. Lawrence thinks he’s going to a war zone. Is this going to boost your speaking fees, Lawrence? Game recognizes game. #AllAboutTheBenjamins,” journalist Roland Martin tweeted, to which Jones responded, “border patrol made me wear it.” Martin further remarked, “Easy: You. Who would I trust regarding border issues: you or Republican @HurdOnTheHill, a former CIA operative whose district is affected? You’re just there for show. But go ahead and play TV. Carry on, Lawrence.”
