The surprising truth about eating eggs every day

When it comes to eggs, it’s safe to say they are one of the foods surrounded by much controversy. The reason is that, over the years, experts first condemned their consumption as a cause of high blood cholesterol, and then, years later, they were classified as a superfood. This is why many people wonder what the truth about eggs really is, and whether they can eat them without guilt or worry about their health.

The egg debate has been around for quite some time. Despite their “bad” reputation in the past, today the story surrounding eggs has changed as a number of research revealed that for most people who are not suffering from any conditions, eggs don’t impose risk for heart disease. In fact, studies suggest that heart disease is mostly influenced by the consumption of trans fats, too much sugar, and processed carbs.

The HeartUK states that cholesterol “is a type of blood fat which is made in the liver. It’s found in some foods too. It plays vital roles in how your body works, and it’s especially important in your brain, nerves and skin.”

Around 80% of it is produced by your body and the rest comes from the food you eat.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “too much cholesterol in your blood can be dangerous for you.” There are two types of cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, or the “good” cholesterol that experts believe can help protect your arteries, and LDL cholesterol, or the “bad” cholesterol that can make a sticky substance called plaque build up in your arteries. In general, cholesterol is essential for cell membranes, hormones, and vitamin D production, and research shows that our bodies adjust to the cholesterol we eat by producing less on their own.

While eggs are high in cholesterol, they are low in saturated fat, which, like trans fats, can raise LDL cholesterol.

Eggs are a source of protein and have all the essential amino acids your body needs to build and repair muscle. They are packed with good fats and omega 3 and contain a number of vitamins and minerals such as A, D, E, B12, selenium, folate, and phosphorus. What’s more, eggs have choline, which has positive effect on your brain and your memory.

Consuming an egg or two per day can:

  • Help build and maintain muscles
  • Boost brain power
  • Keep your eyes healthy
  • Keep you full longer and help with weight management
  • Support your heart and immune system

Eggs can be consumed in a number of ways. Scrambled, boiled, as omelets, sunny-side-up, in salads, in baking to add some extra protein, you name it.

If you can, go for pasture-raised eggs since they usually have more omega-3s and vitamins than the regular kind.

Eggs are safe, healthy, and super easy to cook. They give you protein, good fats, and essential nutrients — all in a few bites. So next time you’re deciding on breakfast, don’t overthink it: crack an egg and enjoy.

What causes night cramps and how to fix the problem

Muscle cramps are sudden spasms of the muscles that cause pain. And while they are not usually harmful, they cause an uncomfortable feeling due to the severe contraction of the muscles.

The cramps can last from a few seconds to ten minutes and can affect the calf muscle and the muscles on the feet or the tights (the latter doesn’t happen as often.)

The reasons why cramps happen can be various.

The most common, however, are as follows:

1. Dehydration

Sometimes, leg cramps that happen during the night are caused by the lack of hydration as this condition leads to an electrolyte imbalance.

Shutterstock

2. Mineral Deficiencies

Muscle cramps can also happen due to the shortage of certain minerals within the body, such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

3. Overexertion

Although exercises is good for the body, overexertion can sometimes overwork the muscles, leading to cramps.

4. Sedentary lifestyle

In order to function properly, muscles need to be stretched from time to time, which is something we often forget about when our job requires too much sitting throughout the day.

5. Improper sitting position

It’s easy for muscles to get strained in case of poor posture and prolonged sitting or standing.

6. Nerve Compression

Nerves in the legs may get compressed or pinched by conditions such as sciatica or herniated discs, which can result in cramps.

7. Pregnancy

The changes in hormone levels and the increased pressure on blood vessels can lead to muscle cramps at pregnant women.

8. Medications

The side effects of certain medications such as diuretics, statins, or antipsychotics can lead to muscle cramps.

9. Alcohol Consumption

The consumption of alcohol affects the body by causing muscle dehydration and mineral imbalances.

10. Certain Medical Conditions

Certain medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, and peripheral artery disease can also lead to muscle cramps.

Some of the standard treatments than can help prevent and relieve the immediate discomfort as per Healthline are: massaging the legs, stretching, walking on your heels, applying heat (such as hot towel, hot bottles, or heating pad on the affected area), drink pickle juice, and take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen.

Researchers explore possible connection between a widely used drug and dementia risk

Dementia can be caused by a number of factors. According to Dementia UK, those factors include genetics, age, brain changes, the person’s lifestyle, as well as other health conditions. The condition develops when brain cells are damaged and fail to communicate with each other, which leads to shrinking of different areas of the brain.

A recent research published in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine explored the link between gabapentin and the risks of dementia.

Gabapentin represents a prescription drug approved by the FDA that is widely used to treat nerve pain and control seizures. It is also commonly prescribed off-label for conditions such as fibromyalgia, sciatica, insomnia, anxiety, hot flashes, and lower back pain. What makes this drug a preferable choice over other drugs that offer the same or similar effects is that it is considered a less addictive alternative.

However, like any medication, gabapentin comes with potential side effects, including nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, memory problems, and speech difficulties.

The research mentioned has raised concerns about its long-term use, with the results showing that people who had six or more prescriptions for gabapentin to treat lower back pain faced a higher risk of developing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia.

It analyzed data from over 26,000 adults in the TriNetX health research network and involved people dealing with chronic pain, including conditions like lower back pain and lumbar radiculopathy. Researchers compared those taking gabapentin with a similar-sized group who weren’t. Participants were then sorted into five age ranges and followed for ten years to see whether they went on to develop mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s, or vascular dementia.

“Currently, there is a discrepancy on whether taking gabapentin increases a patient’s risk for developing dementia,” said Nafis B. Eghrari, the study’s first author and a fourth-year medical student at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, in an interview with Medical News Today. “Moreover, there lacks a strong understanding of how gabapentin impacts cognitive function and whether it contributes to neurodegenerative processes. Previous studies have shown mixed findings on this topic. Thus, we decided to explore this gap in the field.”

According to the study, people with six or more gabapentin prescriptions faced a 29% higher risk of dementia and an 85% higher risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

“The significance of this finding is an association between gabapentin prescription and dementia on a nationwide level,” Eghrari explained. “Though this does not imply causation, this warrants further investigation on the drug’s long-term effects.”

What stood out most was the 35–49 age group, where dementia risk doubled and MCI risk tripled. Eghrari dubbed the finding unexpected, since neurodegeneration is usually something doctors see after age 65.

Study Limitations and Criticisms

Of course, the study isn’t without its limits. It didn’t look at other health issues or medications participants may have had, and dementia risk depends on many factors. Tara Spires-Jones, director of the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, told Medscape, “One very important factor that was not examined in this study is levels of physical activity. People with chronic pain requiring gabapentin may have been less physically active, which is a known risk factor for developing dementia.”

Ian Maidment, a clinical pharmacy professor at Aston University in Birmingham, England, also pointed out that the analysis didn’t control for treatment duration or dosage. He added that other recent studies have failed to find a link, stating, “The jury is out on whether gabapentin causes dementia.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Neel Anand, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon not involved in the study, stressed that proving a direct cause would require comparing patients who use only gabapentin with those who don’t, while making sure the drug is taken as prescribed. Still, he noted that it’s important to be aware of possible cognitive risks tied to long-term use.

Despite the study’s limitations, the authors recommend caution when prescribing gabapentin.

“In terms of clinical significance, I recommend that physicians prescribing gabapentin for chronic pain perform cognitive exams on a regular basis when seeing patients,” Eghrari advised. He also encouraged patients to report any cognitive changes, such as confusion, memory problems, or slowed thinking, to their doctors.

Eghrari concluded, “We hope to carry this research forward and explore whether there is a true causative relationship between gabapentin and cognitive impairment. We also plan to investigate the underlying mechanisms of how the drug may impact cognition.”

Stephen King delivers sharp critique of Trump and his erratic social media posts

Stephen King, the iconic author behind countless horror classics, has taken another shot at Donald Trump, this time, questioning his literacy skills. Currently working on a CGI remake of his 1983 film Cujo, King had been relatively quiet since defending a controversial joke aimed at Trump’s baseless claim that undocumented Haitian immigrants were eating pets. Now, King has spoken out once more to criticize Trump.

Those of you who are following the president on the social media are well aware that Trump is sharing most of his thoughts on Truth Social, and most of his posts raise eyebrows and stir the conversation online.

Stephen King/ Wikipedia

One of Trump’s most recent social media posts aimed at Washington DC’s crime read: “I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before. The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.

“The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong.”

Reacting to this post, King wrote, “Can you possibly trust a President who can’t spell, has serious problems with grammar, and capitalizes at random? I think not. A President who can’t write can’t think. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

While it’s entirely true that Trump capitalizes random word, that are otherwise not capitalized, a number of his supporters defended him.

One person wrote, “You’re a writer. He’s a businessman, and leader. You ever looked at your doctor’s writing. Do you trust your doctor, given the fact that he can barely scribble?”

Another added: “Just because you can write doesn’t say much for a person.”

A third person expressed disagreement with the famous author, writing, “Grammar is not a measure of intelligence. Stay in your lane,” while a fourth one added: “With all due respect, Stephen, that feels a bit unfair. Plenty of people struggle with spelling or grammar who’d still do a far better job than Trump.

“The issue isn’t typos – it’s the incoherent, erratic way he communicates. That reflects thinking, not just writing.”

REUTERS

However, there were also those who were on board with King.

“One of the best takes I’ve seen all day,” one person agreed and added: “His lack of coherent writing ability signals so much more than people are recognizing.”

“A president who confuses Alaska with Russia should not be president,” noted another following Trump’s incorrect claim that he was meeting Vladimir Putin in his home country.

“Stephen, you’re spot on,” added someone else. “A president who can’t spell, who butchers grammar, and sprays random capital letters is not a leader – he’s a global embarrassment.”

Katy Perry’s latest look sparks concern among fans—Is she too thin?

Katy Perry, one of the most beloved pop icons of today, is currently touring on the Lifetimes Tour that launched in April 2025 in Mexico City in support of her 2024 album 143. So far, she performed across the U.S., Mexico and Canada. In September, she’s set to play in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, before heading to Europe and Asia.

Perry’s tour will span 83 shows, and it’s her first tour in seven years.

The Firework singer set the stage for the countdown with a post and a photo of herself in a dazzling Bob Mackie–inspired dress as a tribute to Cher. She captioned it: “T minus 37 days till this bedazzled butterfly takes flight! Are you READY?!”

While many of her fans responded to her post with excitement, highlighting their anticipation for the tour, others shared their concerns over her looks.

Namely, a number of fans commented that Perry looked not only overworked but also underweight.

However, despite the online debate about her slim figure, Perry remains focused on delivering unforgettable performances and fashion moments.

Perry’s tour carousel pulled back the curtain on life offstage, capturing everything from a carefree bike ride and a playful popcorn-snacking performance to sweet moments with her 4-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.

Speaking of the tour, the singer told People, “This show will be full of BPM (beats per minute). So I suggest wearing some sensible shoes and staying hydrated because I think there’s going to be a whole heck of a lot of us just dancing the night away.

“We always put together a message in this huge Disneyland-on-wheels type tour. There’s costume changes, there’s acts, there’s dancers, there’s musicians. I’ll fly around the room. There’s no bad seat in the house. I’m going to get close to everyone at some point.”

The star also explained the inspiration behind the Lifetimes Tour, saying it’s a celebration of her entire catalog of songs to date.

Fit man, 39, left in shock after stage 4 cancer diagnosis, with earlier vague symptoms brushed aside by doctors

Wylie Dixon, 39, who considered himself to be rather fit and healthy, experienced the shock of his life when he was diagnosed with cancer that affects only 3,000 people annually in the United States.

Before he received the devastating diagnosis of having appendix cancer, Dixon experienced abdominal pain, bloating, changes in bowel habits, and loss of appetite, all symptoms of this rare form of cancer. Sadly, at the time he was finally rushed to the emergency room at his home in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia, the cancer had spread throughout his body.

Long before he started experiencing the symptoms, Dixon felt fatigue, but doctors dismissed it as too vague to be linked to cancer.

Speaking to Femail of the shock that came with the diagnosis, Dixon said, “I was in disbelief as I’d never heard of the cancer before… I wasn’t someone who had scheduled health check-ups but I went to the doctor often when something would arise.

He added: “I was fit and healthy, not overweight, I was very active and walking 10,000 to 20,000 steps per day was normal for me at work.”

“I didn’t have any major symptoms besides fatigue. That’s the problem with this cancer, everything was vague and didn’t persist, besides the fatigue.”

According to him, doctors failed to diagnose him for two years.

Since, he and his wife moved to Sydney in order to be closer to the facility where he’s been receiving life saving treatments.

This relocation required both of them to leave their jobs, and they are currently residing in temporary accommodation.

In response to their situation, a friend of the couple launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide financial support during this challenging time. With a fundraising goal of $22,000 AUD, contributions have now exceeded $22,100 AUD, showcasing remarkable community support.

Wylie Dixon’s diagnosis with this form of cancer at just 39 highlights growing concerns about the increasing number of appendix cancer diagnoses in people under 50.

Andreana Holowatyj, PhD, MSCI, assistant professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, commented on a recent research about appendiceal cancer, saying, “When you take these alarming rates that we are seeing for appendiceal cancer across generations, together with the fact that one in every three patients diagnosed with appendiceal cancer is diagnosed under the age of 50, these point to a timely need for everyone to be aware of the signs and symptoms of appendix cancer.”

Woman spots what she thinks is a happy bird – then realizes her mistake

Nature never ceases to amaze us. For many people, being outdoors feels like a therapy for both their body and mind. The breeze, the freshness the trees fill our lungs with, and the stunning colors make for an incredible experience that help us relax and gather strength for the remaining of the week.

An Australian woman, Kym Beechey, loves spending her days outdoors. She appreciates the beauty of the nature and never misses a change to take photos of stunning sights she often stumbles upon.

One day, as she walked through the forest, she came across what she believed to be a baby tawny frogmouth (a bird resembling an owl).

She was in a hurry to take her phone out and take a photo of the sweet happy bird. However, when she zoomed in, she realized it wasn’t a bird at all but a banksia pod, often-funny looking pods that grow out of banksia trees, and are rather unique in their appearance.

These trees grow predominantly in south western Australia, though they can also be found in New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Many compare their pods to pine cones.

The pods burst open, often in the heat of forest fires, and that’s the process when they release their seeds.

When she realized her ‘mistake,’ Kim had a good laugh about it and decided to share the photo of what she believed to be a happy bird for others to see.

Did this deceive you as well?

White woman gave birth to a black baby from her white husband

Rachel, a new young mom from Tennessee, gave birth to a lovely baby boy on February 17.

Working as a cashier at the Celina 52 Truck Stop, the place posted on their Facebook congratulating on the new addition to the family. They shared a post along with a photo of the happy family with the caption, “Congratulations to our cashier Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman on their baby Cash Jamal Buckman being [born] on Saturday at 6:18pm.”

What caught the attention of many was that both Rachel and Paul are white while their baby is black.

As expected, people started posting mean comments under the post, accusing Rachel of cheating.

The store then added another post offering an explanation.

“Yes, Paul is the father. Rachel has African American DNA in her which can skip generations and cause a child to be born with darker skin,” they wrote.

Further, they stated that there might be possibility of jaundice, and ended their post with, “Please be kind.”

However, this didn’t put a stop on the jokes people continued making on the expense of the couple.

“Congratulations!!! I AM sure he looks just like his dad. Where is he?” one person commented.

“Definitely needs a DNA test; what if they accidentally mixed up the kiddos in the nursery?” another added.

“I feel sorry for Paul, being duped like this is a whole new level of creep. Hopefully he’ll wise up,” a third wrote.

Looking at the comments, Rachel decided to share a post that included her her own ancestry test results. She wrote, “For the haters saying that I [don’t] have black DNA maybe this will clear it up straight from my ancestry DNA results !!!! NOW STOP slandering mine and my [fiancé] Paul Buckman name. he IS the father of Lil Cash.”
