Doctors identify the blood type most at risk for developing stomach cancer

The exact reasons that lead to stomach cancer are not known, but researchers argue there are factors that increase the risks of developing it.

These factors include being older, being overweight, struggling with infections that are left untreated, and smoking, among the rest.

According to Cancer Research UK, “Infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) causes around 40 out of 100 (around 40%) stomach cancers in the UK.”

It is a bacteria that lives in the mucous which lines the stomach and spreads though contaminated food and water. For some people, this bacteria will not cause any issues, but for others it can cause inflammation and stomach ulcers, risk factors of developing stomach cancer.

According to NHS, the early symptoms of stomach cancer are mild and hard to spot, usually because they are also related to other conditions. They include persistent indigestion and heartburn, rapped wind and frequent burping, feeling very full or bloated after meals, and persistent stomach pain.

Symptoms during more advance stages of stomach cancer may include blood in the stool, loss of appetite, and weigh loss.

However, when it comes to stomach cancer, research believe that certain blood types are more prone to this awful disease than others.

Findings of a recent research, those with the blood type A, B or AB could be dramatically more likely to develop some types of deadly cancer, Daily Mail reports.

The study conducted on 50,000 Iranians showed that those with type A, B or AB blood — around half the UK population — have a 55 per cent higher risk of developing stomach cancer, compared to those with the O type.

Other research suggests that those with the AB blood type had a 45 per cent higher chance of developing liver cancer. The same research found that people with O and AB blood types have a lower risk of pancreatic cancer. In the UK, O positive is the most common blood type, while AB negative is the rarest, making up only 1% of the population.

How and why the blood type is related to the risks of developing certain types of cancer is something researchers are yet to determine.

High school track athlete, 17, tragically stabbed to death

Austin Metcalf, 17, was tragically stabbed to death at a champions meet on April 2. Reportedly, he died in his twin’s brother’a arms.

Austin, who was a junior athlete at Frisco ISD’s Memorial High School in Texas, got into an argument with another student, allegedly over a seat, at the David Kuykendall Stadium, before the student stabbed Austin in the chest.

According to Austin’s father, his other son, Hunter, Austin’s twin brother, witnessed the incident and tried to help his brother, but nothing could be done.

Austin was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“They were twins, identical twins. And his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” the devastated father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

“I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him.

“This is murder.”

Austin’s mother, Meghan Metcalf, recalled the tragic moment she received a call about her son being stabbed to death.

“[Hunter] was there when he was stabbed and he was holding the wound – he was trying to save his brother,” she told news outlet WFAA.

“I think he said he saw when he took his last breath before the CPR came back in. From what I heard, [Austin] was unresponsive for five minutes, they were able to revive him a little, but. It was too little, too late.”

Heartbroken Hunter added: “He didn’t deserve it. I know people that lose their family members all the time, but I just didn’t know it would be mine so soon. My best friend, my brother, my whole life.”

According to the family, Austin had never met the kid who stabbed him before.

The suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

We are so very sorry for this devastating loss.

The forgotten birthday: He turned 89, but no one called

His 89th birthday rolled around. This day of the year, once filled with laughter, cakes, and chatter of loved ones was now just a distant memory of the life he once had.

The ravioli, still steaming, stood in front of him, but he couldn’t even take a bite. He remembered some happier times and couldn’t understand why the calls from his children and grandchildren became so rare, almost nonexistent. They did call and visited at the beginning, but now, they were all busy with their own lives and no one seemed to remember their old, fragile father.

“When they brought me here, they said it was for my own good,” he once told the nurse at the nursing home. “But I feel like I was left behind.”

This old man wasn’t mad. He chose not to hold grudges – he simply felt sad that no one remembered him anymore, not even on his 89th birthday.

He knew all to well that his family was busy working. They all had hectic schedules, but still, he didn’t ask for much, a single phone call would be enough.

He was sitting all by himself, with the clatter of utensils against plates.

The truth is that this man’s story is just one thread in a vast tapestry of forgotten lives.

The loneliness of the elderly is a subject we sometimes tend to avoid because it makes us feel uncomfortable, forgetting that these people were once everything we had – the only people we could rely on, look upon, and trust.

And now, they are surrounded by strangers, and that’s not what makes everything sad. The sad thing is that we don’t call them as often as we should and we don’t visit them as much as they expect.

It’s true that love moves fast, but we should never forget that our time with our parents and grandparents is running out.

One day, they’ll no longer be around, and we’ll miss them unconditionally. When that day comes, we’ll understand that we could do more, but it would be too late.

Today, take a moment to make that call!

Military haircut got my son in trouble – now I’m facing a bigger battle

When I picked up Levi from school, he was unusually quiet. I knew right away something wasn’t right, but Levi refused to tell me. On the way home, he didn’t utter a single word, and the moment we got home, he said, “Mom, my teacher said my haircut is ‘aggressive’ and intimidates the rest of the children.”

“What!?” I asked, confused by his words. My son has this short, military hairstyle, just like my brother’s, who serves in the military.

I couldn’t really understand why a neat haircut would cause trouble for an 8-year-old boy.

Levi then handed me a note that read the school was trying to “maintain a positive learning environment” and my son’s hair was allegedly standing on the way of achieving this.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. They even mentioned a “corrective action,” and I had no idea if that meant detention or suspension.

Levi was extremely worried. He believed he did something wrong, when in fact, he didn’t, and I was determined to protect him no matter what it took.

Honestly, I thought it was just a misunderstanding – surely a clean-cut style couldn’t be against the rules, but when I met with the school’s administration, I was assured my son broke the dress code.

My frustration grew when I learned there were other students at the school with the same haircut who didn’t get a note about any violations of the school rules.

I decided to push back. I wouldn’t let my son feel guilty for a clean haircut.

Upon insisting, I met with the school’s vice-principal. When I mentioned that other students at the school weren’t punished for the same hairstyle, she said she believed it was Levi’s teacher that had something personal against it.

Later, I found out that Ms. Reeves, Levi’s teacher, lost her father due to severe PTSD he suffered from after serving in the military. The vice-principal promised to talk to her and make things right.

A day later, I got a call from the school. Mrs. Reeves wanted to talk to me.

When I saw her, she looked remorseful and apologized for the disciplinary note, saying she wasn’t aware she overreacted. She then shared her father’s story with me, explaining she hasn’t fully processed some things about his passing and everything related to the military, including my son’s haircut, reminded her of her dad.

This experience taught me that as a parent, I should always stand for my child. But it also taught me that there should always be room for compassion. We never really know what others are going through and why they act the way they do.

Sometimes, the best way to defuse a conflict and a misunderstanding is with kindness and willingness to listen.

Cher breaks silence on ex-boyfriend Val Kilmer’s death at 65

The passing of Val Kilmer has been met with an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow actors who remember his talent and the iconic roles he had given to the world of film.

According to his daughter, Mercedes, the Batman star died of pneumonia. Kilmer battled cancer in the past and had undergone extensive treatments that damaged his vocal cords thus affected both his life and his career.

Among those who honored Kilmer is his Batman co-star Jim Carrey. “I’m remembering Val Kilmer today with great admiration for him as a man and as a generational talent who left us an enviable legacy of indelible acting performances,” Carrey, 63, said in a statement to The Post on Wednesday. “His greatest artistic achievements were rivaled only by the grace and courage with which he endured his life’s most challenging moments,” Carrey added. “Wishing his family so much love.”

Singer Cher, who used to date Val Kilmer during the 80’s, also paid her tributes.

Cher and Val Kilmer were an unlikely couple. She was 14 years his senior and already an accomplished singer, while Kilmer was just starting his career but was considered a Hollywood heartthrob.

Recalling their romance, Cher told People in 2021, “Was he 22? What was I? I don’t know. 30-something. It was a bigger deal back then. The truth was if I hadn’t gone out with younger men, I would have never had a date. Younger men weren’t intimidated by older women. But older men in my age category, they weren’t having it.”

She added: “He’s like nobody I’ve ever known. He is exasperating and hysterical. Thrilling and funny and doesn’t do what anyone else does.”

The pair even had nicknames for each other. “We called ourselves Sid and Ethel. Val didn’t want to yell ‘Cher,’ and I didn’t want to yell ‘Val.’ We also called ourselves Valus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus. Of course he was Maximus,” the singer added.

Even after their romance ended, the two remained close friends.

Following his sudden passing, Cher took to the social media to share her emotions over the devastating loss.

“VALUS. Will miss u, U Were Funny, crazy, pain in the ass, GREAT FRIEND, kids [heart] U, BRILLIANT as Mark Twain, BRAVE here during ur sickness,” she posted.

Fans were quick to comment under her post.

“It’s really sad. I know how special he was to you and the bond you shared,” one person wrote. “I’m so sorry for your loss! May his brilliant soul rest in peace,” another added.

Strategist who predicted Trump’s fall claims it has now occurred

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville predicted back in February that Trump‘s administration will collapse, and he’s now claiming it has already started happening – soon that he expected.

The 80-year-old said on The Dan Abrams Show, “It’s collapsing right now. We’re in the midst of a collapse.

“What I have said very publicly is that Democrats need to play possum. This whole thing is collapsing,” he added.

Carville managed Bill Clinton’s first campaign, helping the Democrats “overtake” the White House after the 12-year rule by the Republicans.

According to him, the fall of Trump’s administration will be a result of the plethora of executive orders the president signed, some of which contradict the laws, and the declining approval ratings caused by the firing of thousands of government officials.

A month after his predictions, Carville spoke to CNN in the wake of the scandal with the leaked info on the military attack on Yemen when top officials invited editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, into the conversation by mistake, saying he was ‘wrong’ about his earlier prediction.

As expected, inviting a journalist to join in the conversation by mistake raised plenty of questions regarding national security protocols and the use of unsecured channels for sensitive information, with the Senate Armed Services Committee calling for an independent investigation.

“It’s before April Fool’s Day – which the Trump administration should make a national holiday because it so accurately represents who they are,” Carville said.

He continued: “We look at what’s happening in the markets, we look at what’s happening on Signal-gate, we look what’s happening all the way around us […] I think the thing is collapsed.”

The strategist added: “Let’s take the middle ground here and say ‘it’s collapsing’ – I’ll meet you half way, but that’s about all I can do.”

Speaking to Fox News he said that Democrats do not need to be “aggressive” against the Trump administration because the “collapse is already underway.”

Strategist James Carville added: “Poll numbers are declining. The collapse is already underway. Let’s see when [they] put the Medicaid budget when [they] put the tax, the $4.5 billion, trillion dollars of tax cuts to wealthy people. Just let the ball come to you. We don’t need to be aggressive now.”

Last photos of Richard Chamberlain before he died

Richard Chamberlain, the beloved ‘Dr. Kildare,’ passed away aged 90 and now the final days of his life are coming to light.

When he first appeared on screen, he was dubbed, “The slim, butter-haired hunk with the near-perfect Ivy-League charm and smooth, intelligent demeanor, had the distaff fans fawning unwavering over him.”

Ever since he was very young, Richard imagined himself playing on stage and on screen. “We used to go to double-bills on a dime and I thought, ‘Whoa, that’s a good place to be—up on the screen,’” he recalled speaking to Palm Spring Life. “I was always fascinated with the idea of being an actor. The problem was I was always a little withdrawn, shy, and not very sure of myself. But the people up on screen seemed so confident.”

After landing the role of Dr. Kildare, Richard Chamberlain became one of the most beloved actors with millions of fans.

Dr. Kildare brought him not only fame, but also a Golden Globe Award for Best TV Star in 1963.

The series followed the life of Dr. Kildare and his relationship with his mentor Dr. Leonard Gillespie, played by Raymond Massey, at the  fictional “Blair General Hospital.”

The reason why people loved the series so much, according to the star himself, was that the doctor was portrayed as caring and someone who was always there for his patients.

In 2003, at the age of almost 70, Richard finally confessed what he tried hiding most of his life, that he was a homosexual. He made the confession through his book, Shattered Love. Some of his closest colleagues said they knew deep down that Richard loved men.

Speaking to the New York Times, the actor who was ranked at No. 7 in TV Guide’s list of “TV’s 25 Greatest Teen Idols” said, “When you grow up in the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s being gay, it not only ain’t easy, it’s just impossible. You cannot do it, that being gay was the worst thing you can possibly be. I assumed there was something terribly wrong with me. And even becoming famous and all that, it was still there.”

In the 1970s, The Thorn Birds star started dating actor Wesley Eure. He then got romantically involved with actor and producer Martin Rabbett, who, like Eure, was 20 years his junior. The couple separated in 2010.

Richard’s passing was announced by Rabbett, who remained close friends with the actor until the very end.

In a statement, Rabbett wrote, “Our beloved Richard is with the angels now. He is free and soaring to those loved ones before us. How blessed were we to have known such an amazing and loving soul.”

He added, “Love never dies. And our love is under his wings lifting him to his next great adventure.”

The cause of death was listed as complications after a stroke. His last on-screen appearance came in the 2018 horror film Nightmare Cinema, where he portrayed the character Dr. Mirari.

The actor’s last social media post was an interview he recorded in early December. Before that, he hadn’t posted anything since 2022.

Occasionally, he posted throwback photos from his roles.

Back in March, 2023, music educator Ira Wong posted two photos of himself and Richard Chamberlain on which the actor appeared happy and vibrant, pretty much as he had always been. Despite life’s struggles and Hollywood’s pressures, he remained the same charismatic, down-to-earth star.
