Police issue update on missing Hannah Kobayashi

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, was reported missing from Hawaii last month, and the search for her is still ongoing. The police, however, issued a statement regarding her whereabouts, claiming she “vanished on purpose.”

According to recently revealed footage from a surveillance camera, she missed a connecting flight from Hawaii to New York in Los Angeles on 8 November and disappeared a few days later. Before that, she sent her family “alarming” text messages.

“On Friday, Nov. 8, Hannah Kobayashi missed her connecting flight from LAX to New York, which the investigation determined was intentional,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said.

“Over the next few days, she maintained contact with her family and remained active on Instagram.”

He added: “Our hearts go out to the Kobayashi family during this unimaginable time of grief.

“We remain fully committed to locating Hannah and supporting the family as they navigate their way through this tragedy.”

The footage, obtained by US immigration officials, showed Kobayashi crossing into Mexico with her luggage, which led the police to rule out kidnapping.

“We reviewed video surveillance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which clearly shows Kobayashi crossing the United States border on foot into Mexico,” McDonnell said in a news conference.

“She was alone with her luggage and appeared unharmed.

“Our priority is ensuring Ms. Kobayashi’s safety and well-being.”

Missing Persons of America

With no crime scene or evidence of human trafficking, the police classified her disappearance as a “voluntary missing person.”

Kobayashi’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, along with a number of family members, headed to Los Angeles to help in the search of his daughter, but after they failed to track her down, he was found dead at the bottom of a car park at LAX on Sunday, November 24.

The cause of his passing was ruled a suicide.

A GoFundMe page set up after Ryan’s passing read: “He has been living his absolute worst nightmare since Hannah’s disappearance, and now, with his passing, our family is grappling with unimaginable grief.”

The family of Hannah Kobayashi is hoping the police would be able to find her soon.

During our Thanksgiving dinner, my son refused to eat

Mark and I struggled to make ends meet, yet, we managed to stretch our budget and give our son the best Thanksgiving he’s ever had. I worked my magic in the kitchen and prepared all of his favorite dishes. Of course, at the center of the table was the perfectly roasted turkey, mashed-potatoes, my special cranberry sauce and my son’s all-time favorite pumpkin pie.

This Thanksgiving, I wanted everything to be perfect because my mom was coming over, and she is the type of person who can’t be easily satisfied. She always complains about things, believing they could be done better.

The warmth of the holiday filled our modest home. I couldn’t wait my son, Ethan, to compliment my cooking as always.

However, when dinner time arrived, Ethan refused to eat, which wasn’t usual for him. No matter how much my husband Mark and I insisted, he said he wasn’t hungry each time. What’s most, he even refused dessert. This was a red flag. I could sense something was not right, but since my mother was there and her presence wasn’t the most pleasant, I didn’t push Ethan to share what was wrong.

Once dinner was over and my mom left, I went straight to Ethan’s room.

“What’s wrong honey,” I asked, noticing that he was struggling to hide his tears.

“Mom, grandma told me the truth about you,” he said questly.

“The truth? What truth?” I asked, confused.

“She told me you and dad are losers, and that’s why we don’t have a real Thanksgiving dinner.”

At that moment, my world started spinning. I knew my mom was hard at times, but I never believed she could turn my son against me.

“Mom, grandma also told me that dad is lazy and that’s why he can’t provide for us, and that you don’t take real care of me.”

I had it enough.

“Ethan, your dad and I love you unconditionally. Things may be hard sometimes, but we do our best to provide a beautiful life for you. And your grandma… well, she doesn’t know what she’s talking about at times.”

Ethan felt relieved. He gave me a hug and told me he was hungry. I was happy to reheat everything for him, including the mac and cheese my mom said I shouldn’t have put on the table on Thanksgiving although she knew it was Ethan’s favorite.

I shared everything with Mark and we decided to confront my mother.

The following morning I called her and asked her to stop by.

When she appeared at the door a couple of hours later, acting superior as always, she yelled, “What do you need me for, I was here last night and I don’t want your leftovers.”

“Mom,” I said, “How could you tell an 8-year-old child that his parents are losers?”

Looking at me with an angry face, she answered, “That’s because you are, and I was just being honest. You need to provide more for that child.”

Mark interrupted, shouting, “How is that honesty?” But my mother remained unmoved by our words.

Ignoring him, she turned to me and said, “Things would be different if you married the man I suggested.”

These words were the last straw. “Leave, get out of my house, and don’t ever come back,” I told my mother, no matter how hard it was for me to utter those words.

“What? You can’t do that!” she said. But Mark assured her we could. We didn’t want her to be part of our lives any longer, not until she learned to show us respect.

She grabbed her purse and stormed out of the house.

Honestly, I doubt that my mom will ever make her way back into our lives, but so far, she hasn’t even tried.

While baking Christmas cookies with Ethan, he turned to me and said, “Mom, I think our family is the best.” Hearing those words, I no longer doubted my decision to cut my mom out of my life. She was exactly where she deserved to be.

High school hockey player Connor Kasin dies — First details

Connor Kasin, 17, senior at Massapequa High School in Long Island, collapsed during a varsity hockey game in New York and sadly passed away.

The teen lost consciousness on the ice during an intermission of the game at Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage on Long Island Saturday night.

It was reported by the Nassau County police that people who witnessed the incident administered CPR on Kasin before the first responders arrived. He was then taken to the hospital where he died. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent William Brennan paid tribute to Kasin following his tragic passing.

“It is with profound sorrow that I inform you of the tragic loss of one of our beloved Massapequa High School students, Connor Kasin,” the statement said, as per ABC7.

“Connor was a cherished member of our school community, known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile.

“He had a way of bringing light and joy to those around him, and his absence will be felt deeply by all of us.”

William Sander, a senior at Massapequa High School, spoke of the tragedy. “I pray for him and pray for people around him. Honestly, it’s very sad and heartbreaking,” he said.

The match during which Kasin died was held in memory of Sabrina Navaretta.

She was a graduate of rival Syosset High School who lost her life in a car crash last year.

Sabrina’s parents paid their tributes to Kasin. “There are no words to convey our heartbreak that we feel as last night was supposed to be a fun night.”

“The community came together to celebrate Sabrina’s life and our family’s commitment to help with scholarship, dog rescue and assisting grieving parents. We would like the Kasin family to know our commitment to you. Connor was there to play for Sabrina and our family is here for you. 

“Please take the time to grieve and be kind to yourself as the waves of grief can knock you over. John and I are here for you when you are ready.”

PAL Ice Hockey, the Long Island youth hockey organization, also paid tribute to Kasin, whose life was tragically cut short.

“Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to the Kasin family, Connor’s teammates, coaches and classmates from the LI Sharks and Massapequa Chiefs. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this unimaginable time.

I fell for the grumpy neighbor of my daughter-in-law

My daughter-in-law hated the idea of me staying with them while I was recovering from a leg injury. Who knew, maybe she hated my remarks on her clumsy work around the house when I knew my son deserved better.

Being seven months pregnant, Kate, who was ever-resentful, never accepted any of my advice. Whenever I would make a comment about her cooking, she would tell me to cook myself if I knew any better.

One time, she was racking the leaves in the yard. Watching her from the distance, I thought to myself, “This daughter-in-law of mine has no idea what she is doing.”

I tried to tell her that she was doing it wrong, but she pretended she didn’t hear me. “I’m telling you, you’re raking them the wrong way. Start with small piles, then combine them into one big heap. Dragging them across the yard is a waste of time,” I said. Instead of taking my advice, she turned to me and told me it was probably about time that I go home.

She looked at me angrily, the same look as that of her grumpy neighbor, Mr. Davis, who also seemed to be fed up by my good-natured comments.

“Hi, Mr. Davis,” I said as I turned to him, but he didn’t say anything back, she just turned around and entered in his house.

No one seemed to appreciate my help.

That evening, while my daughter-in-law prepared dinner, I couldn’t help by tell her to put some more salt in her dishes. And instead of thanking me for my help, she told me to leave the kitchen.

During dinner time, Kate mentioned that she noticed Mr. Davis was looking at me as though he liked me.

“That grumpy neighbor of yours doesn’t even greet me,” I said. But Kate insisted he had feelings for me.

Well, she could be right because the following day, Mr. Davis invited me to dinner at his place. I agreed. The night wasn’t as fun as I expected it to be at first until I mentioned my love for jazz. It turned out he was into that type of music too.

He didn’t pull out my chair when I entered his home so I didn’t think he was a gentleman, but his dancing to jazz music made me rethink my opinion for him.

The rest of the night was lovely. We had dinner, laughed, danced, and I felt more alive than I have in years.

I was eager to share everything with my daughter-in-law. This time, for a change, she seemed genuinely happy for me. She even suggested we invite Mr. Davis to dinner on Thanksgiving. Oh, what a lovely idea that was.

The table was all set, the smell of the turkey filled the air, and jazz music played in the background. It was the perfect Thanksgiving, until I overheard Mr. Davis, or Peter as he wished I call him, and my daughter-in-law talk about me.

“Mr. Davis, thank you for doing this for me,” Kate told him. “This scheme works perfectly. My mother-in-law is so busy spending time with you that I can finally take some rest from her mean comments. You’ll get your new record player soon for playing along.”

Her words shook my world. Peter dated me because Kate told him to. How could she do that to me.

I entered the kitchen, where she and Peter were and stared yelling at them. I even told my son about it, but it turned out he knew the truth all along. In fact, the idea was his.

“Your son was also at his wit’s end with you!” Kate said. “I couldn’t handle the stress from your constant nitpicking, and this way you were busy with Mr. Davis and could finally have some break.”

“I expected something like this from my daughter-in-law, but not from you Peter,” I said.

But Peter grabbed me by my hand and said that although everything started as a game, he developed feelings for me. I refused to believe him, but his words felt sincere.

Honestly, I also had feelings for him. Maybe my daughter-in-law did all this in order to get rid of me, but she did the best thing she ever could.

My husband cooked the turkey this year

This Thanksgiving was a bit different, not only because my husband cooked the turkey for a change – which I obviously thought was a bad idea in the first place – but also because it left a bitter feeling that I still cannot get rid of even though a few days have passed.

It’s not that I am a magician in the kitchen, but the Thanksgiving turkey has always been my pride and joy. I even get compliments for the way I prepare it from my mother-in-law, Patricia, who can be quite judgmental at times.

This year, however, my husband insisted on taking care of the turkey, claiming he had a secret recipe we’ll all love.

I was doubtful, but knowing that he is the type of person who wants to show off, I decided to trust him.

When his mother he would be breaking the tradition of me cooking the turkey, Jake said he had everything under control and that we should trust him.

On Thanksgiving Eve, the entire family gathered at our place and we were all eager to try Jake’s turkey. When he took it out of the oven, it smells nicely and looked perfectly cooked – until it wasn’t.

The moment I tasted it, I yelled, “Jack, what’s this?” His mom, who was sitting next to me, had already spit hers in a napkin.

The taste was awful. It was as though someone had dipped the entire turkey in a melted chocolate.

Confused and embarrassed, Jake said, “But…but I though you’d like it. It’s unique, it’s different.”

When he explained that his secret recipe included brown sugar, maple syrup, and marshmallow fluff, I knew that my husband cooking the turkey was the worse idea ever.

He started apologizing, and although we were a bit mad, we eventually laughed about the entire experience.

After dinner was over, I took a piece of pumpkin pie with some whipped cream on, trying to cheer Jake up. He was still very disappointed over the fiasco with the turkey, and I didn’t want him to feel bad, especially because I knew how much it meant to him to prepare something nice for his family.

But everything changed when I noticed a crumbled piece of paper in the trash. I got curious and looked closer when I noticed a familiar name written on it. Sarah! It was Jake’s ex-wife.

My heart skipped a bit. Could he really think asking her for advice on how to cook a turkey was a good idea?

I got really mad and I confronted him right there and then. “Jake, was it Sarah, your ex, that you turned to for a recipe?”

He looked at me in confusion, aware he made a mistake. “Just so you know, she sabotaged you and made you a fool,” I said.

“Honey, I am so sorry, I just wanted everything to be perfect, and you know, Sarah used to work for a catering service, so I thought…”

I stopped him before he finished his sentence because I didn’t want to listen to his lame excuses.

The following morning, I spoke to Jake’s mom and told her everything. As she took a sip from her glass of wine, she said that her son could be foolish at times. She tried to convince me that Jake adored me and wanted to impress me with the turkey and that’s why he turned to the only other woman he knew well.

I knew Sarah cheated on him and broke his heart, so the thought of him asking her for advice was something I couldn’t get over.

Despite everything, I’m still with Jake, but I can’t shake the feeling that something shifted this Thanksgiving.

Who knew that when my husband cooked the turkey, my image of my ideal marriage would crumble?

Legendary actor found in his California home

Bill Cobbs, a legendary actor known for taking seemingly small but pivotal roles in about 200 film and television shows, has died aged 90.

According to his agent, Chuck I. Jones, Cobbs, who played Whitney Houston’s manager Bill Devaney in the 1992 film The Bodyguard, passed away on Tuesday in his California home, surrounded by his family and friends.

The Cleveland-native’s career began in the mid-1970s with the Broadway productions Black Picture Show and The First Breeze of Summer.

Before starting an acting career, Cobbs served eight years in the US air force as a radar technician. After that, he was a car seller, but he eventually decided to leave Cleveland for New York and try himself in the film industry.

Throughout the ’70s and into the ‘80s, this legendary actor landed roles in Good Times, The Equalizer, One Life to Live and Sesame Street.

In 1993, he appeared in the sci-fi thriller Demolition Man. Three years later, Cobbs played alongside Tom Hanks, Liv Tyler and Steve Zahn in That Thing You Do!

The list of films and television credits under his belt is a rather long one, including films such as Air Bud, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Night at the Museum, Sunshine State, Oz the Great and Powerful and The Drew Carey Show, among the rest.

In 2020, Cobbs appeared on the TVOKids children’s series Dino Dana, which won him a Daytime Emmy for outstanding limited performance in a daytime program. 

The final project in which he appeared was the 2023 TV mini-series Incandescent Love.

Cobbs’ sudden passing was also confirmed by his brother, Thomas Cobbs. “Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend, Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones. As a family we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time,” he wrote on the social media.

A number of fans shared their condolences. “Thank you Mr. Bill Cobbs for following your dreams and sharing your gifts,” someone wrote. “It’s crazy how many movies Bill Cobbs was in! His voice was great. I will miss him very much,” another person added.

We are so very sorry for the loss of a legendary actor as Bill Cobbs. May he rest in peace.

Officer takes the floor with students and shows off moves

Bidding farewell can be a bittersweet moment and an officer who worked as a school resource officer at Don Lugo High School in California, Officer Ryan Tillman, said goodbye to the students in style.

When he was promoted to Chino Police Corporal, Officer Tillman decided to do something special for the students, making sure they won’t forget him any time soon.

Working alongside the school’s principal and a dance team, he offered an incredible surprise performance that wowed everyone. After all, dancing liberates the soul, and this man who brings a ray of sunshine even during the darkest of days, seems to know that best.

During the school assembly, when everyone gathered at the gymnasium, Officer Tillman joined the dance students as Lil Mama’s Lip Gloss started playing. Needless to say, the students erupted in cheers, asking for more, so Tillman did exactly that, showed more of his dancing abilities as the song switched to MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This.

Officer Tillman offered an unforgettable moment when he pulled off some fancy dance moves from the 90s.

The best thing of all? He danced in his police uniform.

His time as a school resource officer was a fun one, so he wanted to show his gratitude to the students and the school staff, as well as to “shine a positive light” on police officers.

“I wanted to make a big exit, so I thought, what better way than to dance?” Officer Tillman told NBC Los Angeles.

Another school resource officer commented, commending Tillman’s courage, “I’m also an SRO, but I could NEVER get up in front of staff and students to dance. Kudos to you for doing it. Many people don’t realize the balance SROs must strike with young people at their schools.”

Officer Tillman isn’t only appreciated by the school students but also by the entire community.

He founded Breaking Barriers United, an organization aimed at “bridging the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve.”

Millions of people have seen the video of Officer Tillman’s energetic performance.

“Every city needs a cop like you! Great job!” one person commented, and we can’t agree more.
