Ann-Margret cared for her husband until the end – his cause of death broke her heart

Actress Ann-Margret and her late husband, actor Roger Smith, shared love larger than life.

Before she met him, the Swedish-born actress and singer dated ‘The King of Rock & Roll,’ Elvis Presley, but it was Smith who stole her heart. The two first met during the 1960’s and started dating in 1965, which eventually led to a union that lasted a lifetime, with Ann-Margret saying that marrying Smith has been the greatest accomplishment in her life.

Opening her heart to Closer Weekly, the Bye Bye Birdie star recalled the time she and Smith went on their first date and how she immediately knew he was her soulmate.

Smith, who was considered Hollywood heartthrob loved by many women, said during an occasion that winning Ann-Margret’s heart wasn’t as easy as with the rest of the women he had been with.

“Every other woman I met was falling all over me,” he remembered. “But this innocent, fresh-faced beauty only spoke to me when I spoke to her and the rest of the time ignored me.”

One time, he invited her to one of his performances at a San Francisco club and had a plan to fascinate her with his motorbike because he knew she was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast who owned several motorbikes.

”When I first started going out with her, there were a lot of guys hanging around. But they didn’t ride motorcycles. So I figured if I had one, it would help. So I bought one and we went out riding together. It helped,” he told NEA.

Ann-Margret was smitten by Smith. “I knew he would protect me. I knew that I could depend on him. I sensed it completely,” she confessed.

“Now in Roger I’ve found all the men I need rolled into one — a father, a friend, a lover, a manager, a businessman,” the actress told Rex Reed in 1972.

“It’s perfect for me. I couldn’t exist without a strong man.”

Soon after, Smith became not only Ann-Margret’s husband, but also her manager. He helped her change her acting persona and land more complex roles, supporting her every step of the way and even putting his own acting career on hold.

“When I met Ann-Margret, I felt happy for the first time in my life,” Smith told New York. ”Once I found Ann-Margret, I couldn’t stand to be without her and, surprisingly, she couldn’t stand to be without me.”

In 1980, Smith was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an incurable neuromuscular disease, that limited his ability to walk. Later, he went into remission and was again able to support her and see her being under the limelight again with her Las Vegas shows.

Sadly, Smith passed away in 2017 at the age of 84. Ann-Margret remained his caretaker until his last day.

She was left heartbroken. “When I look back at my life, I am most proud of my marriage,” Ann-Margret told Closer Weekly. “We both wanted it to work. And it did work. We were together night and day. We loved each other and we were always in each other’s corner.”

They never had children together, but Ann-Margret has been a proud step-mother to Smith’s three children from a previous marriage.

The love between these great actors was genuine and profound.

One of their many photos together, taken on January 1, 1985, in New York, is a symbol of their Hollywood glam and stands as a proof that marriages between celebrities do last. Roger’s unwavering gaze and Ann-Margret’s calm demeanor showcase the strong connection they share, both in their personal and professional lives.

According to a source close to the actress, she allows herself to feel sadness over her late husband’s absence. However, she deeply treasures the time they spent together and holds the belief that he continues to watch over her.

Why Prince Harry ‘called off’ birthday party at the last minute because of Kate Middleton

September 15, 2024, marked Prince Harry’s 40th birthday.

His family, including his father and his brother, congratulated him on the joyous occasion with posts on the social media, which marked the first public message for Harry by the British royals since 2021.

“Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” the post by The Royal Family’s X account read. Along with the message, they included a photo of the Prince smiling and added a cake emoji.

The Prince and Princess of Wales re-posted the message writing: “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

Many saw this as a positive sign towards improving the relationship between Harry and his family, especially his brother William.

Sadly, the strong bond the two brothers once shared has now been strained.

Ever since Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties and spoke about the royals and the things that took place behind closed doors in the infamous Oprah interview, in which they accused a senior royal of questioning the skin of then unborn Archie, the relationship between them and the rest of the members of the Firm sort of shattered.

After everything that has taken place during the four years since Harry and Meghan settled in The States, including the publishing of Harry’s all-tell memoir Spare and the Netflix documentary that revealed details about the royals and in which no one was “spared,” Harry reached out to his father following the revelation of his cancer diagnosis.

It was reported that it was King Charles himself who disclosed his condition with his younger son who then traveled to Britain to visit his father but was only given around 30 minutes to spend with him.

When Kate’s cancer diagnosis was made public, Harry and Meghan reached out to her and showed their support.

In fact, Harry and Kate have always been very close. From the moment they first met, they got along, and William was very happy that his girlfriend and his brother expressed mutual fondness for one another.

Just how close the two were speaks the fact that he had a special nickname for her.

Ok Magazine wrote how the prince called his sister-in-law “Cath.”

During an interview with BBC Radio 1, the host asked Kate: “Is this a thing just in the family?” referring to what Harry calls her. “Yeah, I’m not sure,” the Duchess answered. “I’m not that familiar with it I have to say, but I’ll answer to most things to be honest.”

Kate Middleton and Prince Harry first met in 2003 at Highgrove. The Duke of Sussex was around when his brother, Prince William, invited Kate Middleton to meet his father at Prince Charles’s family house.

“I actually went bright red when I met [him] and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting [him],” Kate admitted, adding, “William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there from Fresher’s Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other, but we did become very close friends from quite early on.”

According to royal author Christopher Andersen, when Harry and Kate first met and she looked away for a moment, he said, “Oh my God, she is gorgeous!”

In his book, Harry recalled meeting Kate.

“I liked his new girlfriend. She was carefree, sweet, kind. She’d done a gap year in Florence, knew about photography, art. And clothes. She loved clothes,” Harry recalled.

He then praised her humor, explaining that he “liked seeing Kate laugh.”

“Better yet, I liked making her laugh,” Harry added. “And I was quite good at it. My transparently silly side connected with her heavily disguised silly side.

“I loved my new sister-in-law,” Harry wrote. “I felt she was more sister than in-law, the sister I’ve never had and always wanted, and I was pleased that she’d forever be standing by Willy’s side. She was a good match for my older brother. They made each other visibly happy, and therefore I was happy too.”

Harry was said to have celebrated his 40th birthday with his wife and children as well as some close friends.

“I was anxious about 30, I’m excited about 40,” Harry told BBC ahead of his birthday.

“Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work,” the prince said in a statement released by his spokesperson.

The Duke added: “Being a dad is one of life’s greatest joys and has only made me more driven and more committed to making this world a better place.”

However, in the past, when he was still living in Britain, he always celebrated his birthday with his family, including William and Kate.

On the occasion of him turning 30, the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had planned an intimate dinner for Harry, inviting his friends.

At the time, Kate was pregnant with Princess Charlotte and experienced morning sickness thus wasn’t able to attend the dinner. Not wanting to celebrate without his sister-in-law, Harry allegedly canceled the dinner altogether.

“Harry was in no doubt that the party should be postponed, even though 30 is an important milestone. Kate had been very involved in organising Harry’s party, and once she fell ill he felt it wrong to let the event go ahead,” a source told the Mirror.

He only celebrated his birthday when Kate was able to attend it.

According to royal experts, it was Kate who persuaded her husband to honor Harry for his 40th birthday on the social media.

“I don’t think this almost insignificant gesture signals the start of a reconciliation, but it is an unexpected twist,” Jennie Bond wrote.

“Landmark birthdays are often a time for taking a look at your life. This time it seems to be William who has been doing some re-evaluation. My gut feeling is that Catherine was influential in this slight softening of her husband’s implacable stand. In the film she made about the end of her chemotherapy, she told how cancer had given her a new perspective.”

Bond added that Kate Middleton could’ve “persuaded” William into thinking that “life is too short for grudges.” However, she stated that Harry and his brother’s relationship is “almost irretrievable.”

Remembering Bill Hayes, actor and long-time TV star

Bill Hayes, a pivotal figure of day-time television passed away at the age of 98.

Hayes was probably best known for his portrayal of Doug Williams on Days of Our Lives since 1970, appearing in over 2,100 episodes of the show. The role of the former con artist-turned-lounge singer became one of the longest-running characters in the show’s history.

Hayes was born in Harvey, Illinois, in 1925. Before becoming an actor, he started a career of a musician and a performer, reaching a Billboard chart-topping hit with The Ballad of Davy Crockett in 1955.

In 1953, Hayes had his Broadway debut in Me and Juliet and over the course of a decade he appeared in a number of productions.

By 1970, Hayes, a divorced father of five, was hoping to land a role closer to home when he joined the cast of Days of Our Lives, a decision that would define his career and endear him to millions of viewers.

It was on set that he met the great love of his life, actress Susan Seaforth, who played Julie Williams. Their on-screen chemistry translated into real life and the two tied the knot in 1974. They stayed together until Hayes’ passing.

Speaking of the instant connection they felt when they laid eyes on each other, Seaforth once said, “I’d seen enough to know that he was special.” Others could also see their unexplained connection. “We had a scene together shortly after meeting, and the head writer saw something going on between the two of us, just two people looking at each other, and he threw out the other plot lines he had for our characters,” she added.

Hayes and Seaforth Hayes were both honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2018 Daytime Emmys for their enduring contributions to television. The couple’s acceptance speech was heartfelt, with Bill expressing gratitude for the fans who considered them part of their own lives.

Honoring Hayes, a representative for the Peacock series told The Times in a statement, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Bill Hayes. One of the longest running characters on ‘Days of our Lives,’ Bill originated the role of Doug Williams in 1970 and portrayed him continuously throughout his life. He and his wife, Susan Seaforth Hayes, remained the foundation of the Williams-Horton family spanning more than 50 years.”

“I have known Bill for most of my life and he embodied the heart and soul of ‘Days of Our Lives,'” executive producer Ken Corday said in a statement. “Although we are grieving and will miss him, Bill’s indelible legacy will live on in our hearts and the stories we tell, both on and off the screen.”

In addition to his iconic role on Days of Our Lives, Bill Hayes had other notable television appearances, including roles in Matlock and Frasier. During the 1950s and 60s, he featured in TV adaptations of popular musicals such as Kiss Me, Kate and Once Upon a Mattress. He also portrayed John Brooks in the 1958 TV movie Little Women.

The cause of Hayes’ death hasn’t been disclosed with the public.

My mom asked me to stay away for 3 months because of ‘renovations’ — when I showed up unannounced, I uncovered the heartbreaking secret she was keeping

Mia and her mom had always been extremely close. They shared their secrets, their troubles and happiness, and were there for one another whenever needed.

One day, Mia’s mom called her daughter and told her she would be renovating the house, something she did every now and then because she was a huge lover of making both slight and big changes to her home, and told Mia not to stop by in the few months to come.

As days gone by, Mia’s mom called less and less, and even when she did, she sounded awkwardly distant. Mia could sense something wasn’t right, but she was too busy with her work and believed her mom was just tired because of the renovations in her home.

However, that strange feeling that something off was going on was getting stronger and stronger, and one day, Mia found herself in her car, heading to her mom’s place.

Once there, she was greeted by a sight she has never witnessed before. The grass in the garden was overgrown. Her mom, the greatest enthusiast about flowers and gardening would never let her garden look like that.

Mia felt a punch in her gut. Was she late? Was her mom in trouble?

She quickly ran towards the house and noticed the door was unlocked, yet another red flag as her mom never left the door open.

Inside, there was no sign of any renovations. The place was as spotless as ever. No paint colors, no brushes, and no dust.

Mia started calling her mom’s name, but there was no answer. She then went upstairs and straight to her mom’s room. There, she saw the most fragile human being she has ever seen. Her mom was in the bed, but she didn’t resemble her former self.

Her once long hair was gone; her red cheeks turned pale, and she had no strength to get out of the bed. Having trouble speaking as her lips were as dry as cracked parchment, she barely managed to call Mia’s name.

“Oh, honey. I didn’t want you to find out this way,” she muttered. Mia was shocked. “Mom, what’s wrong?” she asked.

“I have cancer. I was receiving chemo for the last couple of months, I didn’t want to tell you because I believed I could handle it myself. You know, you were working hard for your promotion, and I…” she said as tears started falling down her face.

“I was always your rock, and I didn’t want you to see me like this…”

Mia started crying. She felt crushed for her mother’s condition and guilt filled her heart for not visiting her mom sooner, when she first suspected something wasn’t right.

But she couldn’t turn back the time.

Mia took her mom’s hand and embraced her in her arms, assuring her that she was now there and that things were going to be fine. She kept reminding her mom how important she was to her, and how she was who she was because of her. As she kissed her mom’s hands and forehead over and over again, reminding her how much she loved her, her mom slipped away. All of a sudden, she was gone.

Mia stayed there long, trying to hold onto the warmth of her and her mom’s last hug as sobs racked her body.

This story serves as a reminder to always keep in touch with those we love and care for, no matter how busy our schedules are, and to trust our gut feeling if it tells us that something isn’t right.

Michael Jackson’s brother passes away at the age of 70 – Details

Tito Jackson, the original member of Jackson 5 and brother of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died aged 70.

The news of his sudden passing was first announced by ET, who cited family friend and former Jackson family manager Steve Manning saying that Tito likely suffered a heart attack while driving to New Mexico from Oklahoma.

Recently, Tito and the rest of the members of the band traveled to Munich, Germany, for a performance. Back then, Tito posted a photo of a memorial for Michael in Munich and paid tribute to his late brother who passed away in 2009.

“Before our show in Munich, my brothers Jackie, Marlon, and I visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved Michael Jackson,” Tito captioned the photo. “We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”

The news of Tito’s passing was later confirmed by his three sons, Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson, who were themselves an R’n’B/pop trio, 3T, in the 1990s.

“We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken,” they wrote on Instagram. “Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”

They continued: “He will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us.

“Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you Pops,” they concluded the post honoring their father.

Jackson 5, formed in 1964, has sold more than 150 million records worldwide and produced several No. 1 hits in the 1970s including ABC, I Want You Back and I’ll Be There.

In 1980, the famous siblings were presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 1997, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As part of the group, Tito provided the background vocals and played the guitar.

Tito was married to Dee Dee Jackson.

Ever since Michael’s passing, Tito has been an advocate for continuing his legacy, honoring his late brother whenever possible.

Back in August, 2024, Tito told the Mirror, “The world was not kind to Michael at all. I don’t know why. I would always say if we didn’t have him, we sure would miss him. His death was such a major tragedy.”

Tito, who loved Michael, added, “The world definitely missed out on a lot of goodness from him, because he wasn’t just a musician or an artist, he was a loving person. He loved to give.” 

Despite his age, Tito didn’t plan on retiring from performing with his band. “I plan to be like BB King – play music until I die. Like Frank Sinatra or Sammy Davis Jr or Dean Martin. It’s fun, it’s peace of mind, it’s pleasure. I think, for an artist, music extends their lives,” he said in an interview with Mirror.

Young girl was abandoned by her father, who declared she was ‘dead’ to him – now she’s a well-known actress

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel are considered to be one of the most beloved Hollywood couples. Their love story dates way back in the day and although they have never tied the knot, their relationship is stronger and stronger with each passing day.

However, before Russell, Hawn was married to the father of her children Kate and Oliver, musician Bill Hudson. The two split after some time and he practically abandoned his son and daughter, and it is something neither Kate nor Oliver would ever be able to put behind them.

Over the years, they both acknowledged Russel as the father figure in their life and even consider him a real dad.

“He was around when [my brother, Oliver Hudson, and I] were young, it sort of teetered out,” famous actress Kate Hudson told Closer Weekly, speaking about her estranged father. Further, she pointed to him as the reason why the relationships in her own life were as they were. “I think that’s like the age-old psychological core issue for any situation. Anybody who has had an experience with a parent that is absent, it’s going to manifest.”

Russell, unlike Bill, has always been there for Hawn’s children whom he considers his own, and Kate and Oliver never miss the chance to thank him for everything he has done for them over the years.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, as quoted by HuffPost, Kate said: “[Bill Hudson] doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall. But I don’t care. I have a dad [Russell]. The bottom line is, you call your kids on their f**king birthday. I’m glad I had a dad who was there on my birthday.”

Bill tried to avoid speaking of his relationship with his children, but it was an Instagram post by his son, actor Oliver Hudson, that made him give an interview to The Daily Mail in which he asked from his children to stop using his name.

Namely, Oliver shared an old photo of him, Kate and Bill for Father’s Day and captioned it: Happy Abandonment Day. He then posted another photo of him and Russel and wrote: “Happy Father’s Day, Pa.” Bill considered this “a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack.”

“I say to them now, ‘I set you free,'” Bill Hudson declared. “I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognise Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”

Kate said how she forgives her father, although his absence has had a huge impact in her life.

“I have a great family, I have a beautiful mother, I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that we didn’t know our dad. People sometimes need to hear that they’re not alone in that,” Kate said in a January, 2021 episode of their podcast, Sibling Revelry, according to People.

Bill blamed Hawn about his relationship with his kids saying she did her best to keep him out of their life as she wanted to present her relationship with Russell as an ideal one. He further “accused” Hawn of Hollywoodisation of the story of him abandoning his kids.

I promised to pay for my niece’s wedding dress, but quickly reconsidered after overhearing her phone conversation

Life is unpredictable. No matter what we plan, sometimes God takes things into His own hands and writes our destiny. These are things we cannot escape from.

Meghan was just 10 years old when she lost both her parents. Life felt hard and she was way too young to understand the severity of the loss, but luckily, her uncle Tim was there for her.

Not having children on his own, he made it his goal to raise Meghan right and be there for her whenever she needed him.

One day, as the two had a conversation about Meghan’s future, Tim said that when the day of her wedding comes, he would be the one purchasing the wedding gown for her. Her tiny face beamed with excitement. She was lucky to have such an amazing uncle.

Fast forward twenty years later, Meghan has become a mother of three beautiful children. She and her boyfriend Tyler, although very much in love, still haven’t got married due to certain circumstances.

One day, however, Tyler proposed and Meghan was over the moon. Their union was finally going to be officialized.

Meghan has always dreamed of having a big wedding, and her heart swelled with joy over the thought of being a bride.

She and Tyler were quick to share the news with her uncle Tim. As expected, Tim was as excited as the husband and wife-to-be.

As they discussed their plans with Tim, Meghan suddenly mentioned the promise Tim made when she was still very young. “Uncle Tim, you are buying my dress, right? I’m sure you remember you promised,” Meghan said. “Of course I remember,” Tim said with excitement. “I would be happy to, Meghan, just to see you happy. So, what do you two have in mind? A small gathering I guess,” Tim asked.

“Well, not exactly,” Meghan said in a shy manner. “Uncle Tim, we were hoping to have a big and glamorous wedding.”

Meghan then told Tim that she had in fact found the perfect venue, and she has also found her perfect dress. She saw it in a magazine and knew it was the one for her. The thing was, however, that the gown cost $7,500.

Tim was shocked at the price of the dress. “Meghan, I don’t know how to say this, but that dress costs way too much,” he said. “I was thinking of a dress in the range of around $1,500.”

Meghan’s face turned red. It was obvious that her uncle’s response left her devastated. “But you promised,” she kept repeating.

Tyler also tried to push Tim into spending more money on his niece’s wedding dress, but Tim refused because he believed spending that much on a dress was ridiculous.

The room felt silent. Before Meghan and Tyler left the place, Tim told them to think about his offer as he was still willing to give her $1,500 for her dress. Meghan didn’t say anything, she just waved goodbye and left.

A few days later, Meghan stopped by her uncle’s place. He was in the garage and saw her talking to someone on the phone before entering the house. However, she didn’t notice Tim who overheard her conversation.

“Tyler, I know it’s not as much as we expected, but uncle Tim is still going to give me money for the dress,” Meghan could be heard saying. “Yes, I will use that money for your car’s repairs, I told you I will help you with that.”

Tim was shocked. Meghan wasn’t even planning on buying a wedding dress with his money. Did he hear that right?

“He doesn’t know I already spent my parents’ trust fund on your car,” Megan continued. “It’ll be easy, trust me.”

Meghan’s words felt like a punch to the gut. The trust fund her parents left behind was to help her with her college, which Tim paid for until she fell pregnant with her first child and decided to drop out of it. She could use that money for her future, not on her boyfriend’s car. What was she thinking?

She was even trying to scam the only person who was there for her when her parents passed away.

At that moment, Tim got out of the garage and looked straight at Meghan, his heart filled with mixed emotions. “Meghan, I overheard your conversation,” he said with anger in his voice. “How could you spend your parents’ trust fund just like that? And you don’t even plan on buying the expensive gown you want me to give you money for?”

“Uncle Tim, it’s not what you think—” Meghan tried to explain. But Tim wasn’t willing to listen to her excuses. “I’m not paying for the dress,” Tim said firmly. “And I’m not giving you a dime for the wedding.”

Meghan grabbed her purse and left the place. She couldn’t even look her uncle in the face. She somehow knew she made a mistake but days passed by and she didn’t reach out to him to ask for forgiveness.

Months passed by and neither Meghan nor Tyler reached out to Tim.

What’s most, he learned they tied the knot at the courthouse with a handful of people in attendance. Tim wasn’t one of them because he wasn’t invited.

Not attending Meghan’s wedding hurt more than Tim wanted to admit. His relationship with his niece was now broken, and it was probably for good.

He was still willing to accept her apology, but she didn’t offer him one.

No matter how hard it was, Tim knew this was a lesson to be more cautious with his trust in people and with his generosity, even when it came to family members.

‘Top Chef’ star Naomi Pomeroy found dead at 49 in river, days after going missing

Naomi Pomeroy, widely recognized for her culinary skills on Top Chef, has tragically passed away.

The Portland chef’s body was found in a river on July 17, after being reported missing a few days prior. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that she drowned.

The investigation showed that Pomeroy, her husband Kyle Linden Webster, and a friend became entangled while on tubes and a paddleboard that were connected.

Members of the Corvallis Fire Department retrieved the other two adults on the shore and transported them safely to a boat launch. Sadly, they were initially unable to recover Pomeroy, according to the sheriff’s office.

At the time of her disappearance, Sheriff Van Arsdall said, “This office is dedicated to locating Naomi and bringing her home to her family and loved ones. I want to thank all involved in the search and recovery mission during this difficult time.”

Her body was located after it was spotted by a group of canoers. According to officials, she was unable to free herself because of the paddle board leash.

Pomeroy was a prominent figure in the Oregon culinary scene. She made a name for herself in Portland after opening her first restaurant, Beast, in 2007. Two years later, she was recognized as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs.

In 2013, she and her husband launched a Portland cocktail bar named Expatriate. The following year, she received a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific.

Pomeroy appeared on Iron Chef as well as Top Chef Masters, while she also served as guest judge on Top Chef in seasons 10, 15, and 18.

Following Naomi Pomeroy’s death, the show and its network, Bravo, released a statement on X, expressing their condolences.
