Heartbroken mother speaks of her pain at the funeral of her husband and three children who were killed by her brother

Mitchell Lapa, an 48-year-old man from Oshawa, Canada, did the unthinkable when he left a family devastated and mourning after he killed his sister’s three children and her husband of 20 years.

The whole country was in shock to learn of the gruesome murder by the mentally unstable Mitchell, as he was described by an old friend who also said that he wasn’t surprised by what Mitchell did.

The killer’s sister Loretta Traynor was also injured during the shooting which took place in her home when Mitchell entered armed and opened fire all of a sudden. After taking the lives of his two nephews, Bradley, 20, and Joseph, 11, his niece Adelaide, 15, and his brother-in-law, Mitchell “died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” as reported by Durham Regional Police.

According to a friend of the killer who spoke to Toronto Sun, Mitchell didn’t kill his sister but left her severely injured instead because he wanted her to remain alive and suffer. Loretta’s fourth child, son Sam, survived because he wasn’t home at the time of the attack.

Loretta, who is now in a wheelchair, spoke of her pain and her grief on the funeral of her family. During the service, this devastated mother and wife said that her loved ones “were taken too soon, too violently and without warning,” as reported by CBC.

The surviving members of the Traynor family–Loretta Traynor and her son Sam–have released a statement via Durham…

“In no way, shape or form can I believe that good will come out of this tragedy. I can’t and I won’t accept it,” she added, as per CTV News. “They were the best of me. I have lost so many parts of me that make me a better person.”

With tears in her eyes, the heartbroken mother continued: “I am so proud to be Chris’ wife. I love him with everything that I have. I am so proud to be Bradley’s mom. He was one of the kindest spirits to ever walk the face of this earth. And I am so proud to be Adelaide’s mom. Her heart was pure as gold. And I am so proud to be Joey’s mom. He was innocent and happy and he had the biggest dreams of all of us.”

“My last words to each of them was that I loved them.”

What had happened brought Loretta to “dark places,” as she had to say goodbye to those she loved the most, to the people who made her life complete.

According to CBC, the reason for the killing was the family’s inheritance. Apparently, Mitchell and Loretta’s father left her most of the assets and cut off Mitchell from it for the most part.

Rest in peace!
