K-9 officer dies after falling down elevator shaft during a chase

Nothing speaks friendship as loud as the dogs who stay by their human’s side and give them unconditional love. Yes, we humans are very blessed these wonderful creatures are part of our life. Their commitment and loyalty can’t be compared to any other.

Not only dogs make awesome pets, but they serve people in ways unimaginable. They help veterans who suffer from PTSD, serve as guide dogs for the disabled, and are part of the police departments.

Titan was a K-9 dog who did a lot for the department he was part of. Sadly, his life ended during a tragic accident which took place on November 22, 2020.

Namely, the officers, along with the K-9 unit, were headed towards an old warehouse in Woodvale, Cambria County, where two out of five suspects they were chasing after were caught. The dogs were supposed to help with catching the remaining three.

As Titan ran after the suspects, he fell through an open elevator shaft from the 5th to the 4th floor. He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, but later died from the severe injuries he sustained.

Interim Captain Chad Miller, with the Johnstown Police Department, said that K-9 Titan had “served honorably” since 2014, and that he died “in the line of duty.”

The department wrote on their Facebook page, “We wanted to let the community know we will be giving a police escort of K9 Titan from the Public Safety Building to the Hindman Funeral Home. Any member of the community that would like to pay their respects can line the streets.”

The news of Titan’s loss touched many members of the community where he served to the core.

Rest in peace Officer Titan and thank you for your service.
