The science behind eye ‘sleep:’ What that crust really is

Overnight, a yellow crust known as eye sleep builds up on our eyelashes and the corners of our eyes. At some people, the eye sleep accumulates more than at others.

It is also known as “eye boogers” and “eye gunk,” while the medical term for it is “rheum.”

What people need to be aware of is that the presence of eye sleep is a normal phenomenon.

When we are awake, we blink and help the tears and the mucus clear away. However, during sleep, these build up in the corners of our eyes and become crusty.

In fact, despite tears and mucus, the eye sleep also consists of oils, dead cells, and bacteria and their remains.

Dr. Rachel Clemmons, an ophthalmologist at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, says, “The eye has several mechanisms to protect itself from infection, including antimicrobial proteins in tears and the physical barrier created by mucus. What we see as discharge is partially the evidence of your immune system successfully neutralizing potentially harmful bacteria that could otherwise cause infections.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the debris collected on the eyes is normal, unless it is related to other conditions, such as conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the conjunctiva.

In these cases the eye discharge is more abundant and more noticeable than normal eye discharge.

Abnormal eye discharge includes discharge that is green in color, sticky, excessive, and foamy.

It is usually accompanied with pain, itching, redness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, swollen eyelids, or a bump on the eyelid.

Dr. Samantha Weiss, an optometrist in private practice, states: “While some morning discharge is entirely normal, patients should be aware of significant changes in the amount, color, or consistency of their eye discharge. These changes can be important indicators of eye health and shouldn’t be ignored.”

Other causes of abnormal eye discharge include: Staphylococcus epidermidis, a common bacteria found on the ocular surface, Propionibacterium species, Corynebacterium species, Streptococcus species, and various gram-negative bacteria in smaller numbers.

Babies and young children experience more excessive eye discharge or eye sleep because their narrow tear ducts block easily. Also, it is more abundant at elderly people and those experiencing dry eyes.

Pope Francis’ last public appearance sends a deep message

The Catholic world is mourning the passing of the first pope from Latin America, Pope Francis, whose liberal views on the church felt like a fresh breeze for millions of believers.

His passing was announced by Vatican in the early hours of April 21, Easter Sunday.

Pope Francis had made his last public appearance just hours prior.

Since February, Pope Francis experienced health issues and his health deteriorated. He was admitted to the Rome’s Gemelli Hospital where he stayed for over a month, longest during his 12 years of papacy. His cause of death was listed as a heart failure.

This year, for the first time since he was elected a pope in 2013, Pope Francis missed most Holly Week events, including the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum, the Easter Vigil at St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Holy Thursday foot-washing ritual.

On Easter Sunday, Pope Francis delivered the “Urbi et Orbi” blessing to the crowd and to the world. Due to his health condition, the address was delivered by a high-ranking archbishop on his behalf while Cardinal Angelo Comastri presided over the Mass in front of tens of thousands.

In his final address, shared by Vatican, Pope Francis wrote, “I would like us to renew our hope that peace is possible! From the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Resurrection, where this year Easter is being celebrated by Catholics and Orthodox on the same day, may the light of peace radiate throughout the Holy Land and the entire world.”

He then expressed his closeness to “the sufferings of Christians in Palestine and Israel, and to all the Israeli people and the Palestinian people.”

He appealed to the warring parties to “call a ceasefire, release the hostages and come to the aid of a starving people that aspires to a future of peace!”

Pope Francis called for peace in Ukraine, and prayed for a final peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He urged the Church to keep the Christians of the beloved Middle East in its thoughts and prayers, and sought for a solution for the people of Yemen.

His message resonated deeply with every Christian who wishes the same.

Pope Francis’ body has been moved to St Peter’s Basilica, where it will lie in state for three days ahead of his funeral on Saturday which is expected to be attended by hundreds of thousands of believers and world leaders.

Man who goes swimming shortly after getting a tattoo dies

A 31-year-old man ignored the advice about avoiding swimming at least two weeks after getting a tattoo, resulting in his death.

Namely, the unidentified man decided to take a swim at the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, which is full of saltwater, just days following inking.

Sadly, his wound from the tattoo of a religious cross on his right calf was still fresh and became contaminated with a flesh-eating bacteria.

Doctors said he had a serious bacterial infection caused by Vibrio vulnificus which torn chunks of his skin.

Doctors put him on life support for two weeks and battled to fight through the septic shock, a condition that occurs when an infection provokes the immune system to turn against the body’s own organs.

According to reports, the man was vulnerable because his immune system was compromised due to cirrhosis of the liver, a pre-existing health condition he was diagnosed with.

BMJ Case Reports said the man had a habit of consuming six 340ml (12 fl oz) bottles of beer daily.

Experts argue that he was at higher risk of catching such infection because of the issues with his liver.

Patients diagnosed with chronic liver disease have low amounts of neutrophils – important white blood cells that help to fight bugs, according to the Daily Mail.

Exposing open wounds to water, whether saltwater or pool water, can increase the chances of contracting skin infections.

Patel set to release documents tied to FBI’s Trump-Russia collusion investigation

Following a declassification executive order from President Donald Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel has delivered nearly 700 pages of declassified documents from the bureau’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation to Congress.

The documents have been exclusively obtained by Just the News.

The investigation centered around false allegations of Trump-Russia collusion in 2016 and beyond.

Donald Trump attempted to declassify the FBI’s Russiagate scandal records during the final days of his first term’s presidency but his attempt was blocked by his own Justice Department in January 2021.

“I have determined that all of the materials referenced in the Presidential Memorandum of January 19, 2021 … are no longer classified,” he said when he announced the order.

However, the DOJ under Garland and the FBI under Wray blocked the implementation of Trump’s declassification order.

“I have determined that all of the materials referenced in the Presidential Memorandum of January 19, 2021 … are no longer classified,” Trump declared in the March 2025 order titled “Immediate Declassification of Materials Related to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation.”

Despite a number of sections being heavily redacted, Patel’s declassified documents to Congress provide rare insight into the FBI’s internal procedures, debates, and decisions during the early phases of the Trump–Russia collusion investigation.

This step is a confirmation for Trump supporters that the investigation against him was biased and illegitimate since its inception.

Critics, however, see the declassification as a political theater and bringing back an old narrative that has already been proven false by independent investigations and court rulings.

A number of Democrats and analysts brought up the question of appropriate balance between government transparency and the protection of sensitive law enforcement methodologies, according to The Archivist.

Reports by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz and Special Counsel John Durham spotted critical errors with the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane probe into Trump–Russia collusion. They claimed it relied on unverified claims from the Steele dossier, and ignored key facts.

Durham noted that “FBI ignored the fact that at no time before, during, or after Crossfire Hurricane were investigators able to corroborate a single substantive allegation in the Steele dossier reporting.”

The Steele dossier was funded by Clinton’s 2016 campaign, raising concerns about political bias.

The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey shares why they have some regrets about coming out as non-binary

Bella Ramsey, the star of The Last of Us, came out as non-binary in 2023 during the film’s promotion. Now, two years after revealing they are genderfluid, Ramsey has some regrets.

Back then, Ramsey told The New York Times that they loved being mistaken for a boy by strangers.

“I guess my gender has always been very fluid,” she said. “Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”

Asked by the Guardian how they feel of the way they shared the news with the public, Ramsey said, “Part of me looks back and I wish that I didn’t, because I didn’t want it to become a headline and a big thing.”

They added: “And obviously it was going to, and I didn’t really understand that at the time. And I wasn’t really prepared for that. But on the other hand, people have said to me that it’s been very helpful for them seeing some representation.

“So it’s been a mixed bag, but overall, I think it was a good thing, just for me living more freely, without feeling like I’m keeping a secret.”

The British actor explained they don’t want the topic of their gender to be in the focus.

“I guess I’m just quite chill with it. And I want everyone else to be as chill with it basically,” she said.

She said she didn’t really care of the pronouns people use when they refer to them. “I’m very much just a person,” she said. “Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”

The topic of Bella Ramsey declaring to be non-binary resurfaced when she decided to deactivate her Instagram account last week.

They said they found inspiration in Kit Harrington and Jesse Eisenberg.

“Those are the two actors who I just thought were the coolest people to ever walk the earth, and neither of them had social media,” Ramsey said.

“I remember them just being so normal and funny and interesting. They were famous because they were great at something, not because they were celebrities. They never pushed themselves out there and made themselves more famous.”

Major alert for defaulted student loans: A new policy shift impacts more than 5 million people

Payments on student loans were paused during Donald Trump’s first presidency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic when a huge number of businesses closed and triggered massive job losses.

However, the Education Department announced Monday it will resume involuntary repayment of federal student loans that are in default.

They expect this decision to affect over 5.3 million people starting as soon as next month.

During Biden’s presidency, he sought to offer forgiveness of the loans but faced opposition from the courts. In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled his plan to forgive the loans as unconstitutional due to lack of congressional approval.

The main issue with the decision by the Education Department is the short notice borrowers will receive, with only two weeks’ time to prepare.

“Beginning May 5, the department will begin involuntary collection through the Treasury Department’s offset program, which withholds payments from the government — including tax refunds, federal salaries and other benefits — from people with past-due debts to the government,” the Education Department announced.

According to UNILAND, “Loans go into default when borrowers do not make payments for nine months.” Once they report this on the credit scores, it can go to collections.

At the time being, less than 40 percent of student loan borrowers are up to date on their loans.

The rest makes the borrowers in default and additional 4 million borrowers who are 91 to 180 days late on their loan payments.

“American taxpayers will no longer be forced to serve as collateral for irresponsible student loan policies,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said.

“The Biden Administration misled borrowers: the executive branch does not have the constitutional authority to wipe debt away, nor do the loan balances simply disappear.”

“Going forward, the Department of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Treasury, will shepherd the student loan program responsibly and according to the law, which means helping borrowers return to repayment — both for the sake of their own financial health and our nation’s economic outlook.”

Natalia Abrams, the president of the Student Debt Crisis Center believes the government should intervene and help those who have student loans the way it assisted investors, banks, and automakers during past “bailouts.”

Further, she argued that the Department of Education’s move against borrowers in default might bypass a federal program called Income-Driven Repayment. This program allows borrowers to make payments based on their income. At the time the Department of Education released their decision on resuming involuntary repayment of federal student loans, the program received and processed applications.

Pope Francis’ final words before passing aged 88

Pope Francis “returned to the home of the Father.”

He died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, served as the 266th pope.

“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,″ Cardinal Kevin Ferrell, the Vatican camerlengo, said.

“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalised.

“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Tribune.″

Vatican revealed the cause of Pope Francis’ death was a stroke and a heart failure. The pontiff suffered health issues since February, when he was admitted to the hospital where he stayed for 38 days, longest during his 12 years of service.

The news of his passing prompted an outpouring of grief from Catholics across the globe.

On Sunday, he greeted crowds at the Easter Sunday Service and gave his ‘Urbi et Orbi’ benediction from a balcony facing the Piazza.

He addressed the crowds with the words, “Brothers and sisters, Happy Easter!”

He did not lead the Easter Mass outside in the piazza. Instead, he gave that responsibility to Cardinal Angelo Comastri, who is retired but was once in charge of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Following the Mass, he spent around 20 minutes on the loggia balcony above the basilica entrance.

Despite the health issues, Pope Francis remained active until the very last day. In September 2024, he visited Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Singapore on his 12-day tour of south-east Asia and Oceania.

He was known for his liberal views and stances. He showed tolerance for divorces and allowing priests to wed same-s** couples in some situations. His stance on ab**ion, however, remained firm, with him calling the act “an extremely dangerous crisis of the moral sense.”

Pope Francis’ death has prompted a nine-day period of mourning called Novemdiales.

Vatican released images of the pope’s body in an open casket dressed in a red robe with the papal mitre on his head and a rosary in his hands. His body will be taken to St Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday morning. The public can pay tribute to him until his funeral on April 26.

In accordance with his wishes, Pope Francis will be buried at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

Resurfaced video captures holocaust survivor challenging ICE director

Bernard Marks, a holocaust survivor, challenged US ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan in 2017 during a public forum on immigration. Now, the video of the confrontation have resurfaced.

Marks, who was 88 at the time, passed away a year later. However, his words pointing to President Donald Trump’s top immigration enforcer remain relevant today when the administration reinforces strict immigration policies.

Among the rest, Marks reminded Homan that history was not on the administration’s side.

“When I was a little boy in Poland, for no other reason but for being Jewish, I was hauled off by the Nazis,” Marks read from a piece of paper.

He then opened up about his entire family being killed and him being the sole survivor. Marks was in two concentration camps, Auschwitz and Dachau. He was taken there at the age of just seven, when the Nazi occupied his hometown of Lodz, Poland. He stayed there until April 27, 1945, when American troops liberated the camp. When he was finally freed, Marks was 13 years old.

“And I am a survivor of Auschwitz and Dachau,” he continued his speech before turning to the organizer of the event, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, and warned him against working with Homan and Trump’s administration agenda regarding immigrants.

“I spent five and a half years in concentration camps, for one reason and one reason only: because we picked on people,” he said, CBS Sacramento reported.

“And you, as the sheriff, who we elected as sheriff of this county, we did not elect you for sheriff of Washington, D.C. It’s about time you side with the people here.

“History is not on your side.”

Following the speech of this holocaust survivor who challenged ICE director, the audience erupted in cheers.

“I feel horrible when I see or hear that a father or a grandfather is being picked up. And just because they get a traffic ticket, according to ICE they’re criminal,” Marks added.

The words of this holocaust survivor resonate with many during these times when the government continues the uncontested deportation of large numbers of migrants under contentious wartime legislation.

He believed our country could do better. “I think the more of us who like to speak up, maybe we can have a better country. A country without hate,” he said.

The comments under the resurfaced video show great support for the bravery of Bernard Marks to speak up.

He experienced ill health in recent months, suffering a respiratory infection and chronic bronchitis which later developed into pneumonia. In February, he was admitted to Gemelli Hospital where he had spent 38 days, the longest during his 12 years of papacy.

What left many stunned was the net worth of Pope Francis, revealed following his passing.

Reports suggest that he was worthy nearly $16 million at the time of his death despite not receiving salary since 2013, when introduced as the 266th pope.

Being a pope, Francis could choose to live in the Papal Palace, just like many of his predecessors, but instead, he chose a more modest accommodation, a smaller two-room suite within the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse.

Also, he was taking his meals in the communal dining room.

Pope Francis vowed to lead a simple life on the day of his election, and he honored that vow until the very end.

According to the Economic Times, the Catholic leader’s wealth accumulated from “royalties, donations, and access to a discretionary fund of $385,000 per year as head of the Roman Catholic Church.”

Pope Francis’ last public appearance was on Easter Sunday, just a day before his passing.

He blessed thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square. Before that, he met with US Vice President JD Vance.

Vance was among those who paid their tributes.

“I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him,” Vance posted on the social media.

“I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful.”

Simulation reveals harsh effects of Ozempic on the body

The desire to look attractive has always been present. However, this urge has increased drastically with the rise of social media and influencers who promote idealized beauty standards.

Achieving the perfect looks isn’t easy. It usually takes a lot of exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including sticking to a balanced diet. Having said that, there are plenty of individuals who opt for a “shortcut” in order to achieve the perfect weight.

Most recently, many turn to Ozempic for weight loss, including celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Rebel Wilson, and Amy Schumer.

However, not everyone is aware of its effects on the body.

The main purpose of this drug is to help manage Type 2 diabetes, and although it hasn’t been FDA-approved for weight loss, people use it for that exact purpose because it does help them lose a significant amount of weight – but at what cost?

A YouTuber by the handle @ZackDFilms revealed the grim realities of what Ozempic does once injected in the body.

According to him, “Once Ozempic enters your bloodstream, it triggers the brain’s satiety center, making you feel full and naturally decreasing your appetite.”

From that point, it balances your blood sugar and helps reduce constant food cravings.

While this sounds nice and rather appealing, Ozempic comes with side effects.

Dr Ben Bickman, a scientist and professor at Brigham Young University in Utah, stated that the drug can cause muscle loss.

“You have a substantial amount of lean mass that’s getting loss as the person is losing weight. To make that clear, for every ten pounds of weight loss, only six is fat – four of it is coming from non-fat sources like muscle and bone,” he told Thomas DeLauer.

Dr Bickman added: “While muscle and bone mass might never return, the body has no trouble regaining fat mass.

“What’s more, one study found that one version of these drugs, actually stimulates the production of new fat cells.”

He continued: “This becomes a problem because when a person start to regain fat mass after stopping Ozempic, with more fat cells comes a greater potential to gain more fat.

“As a result, even though a person may still weight less than they did before starting the drug, they may be fatter, with a higher percentage of body fat.”

One thing we should all be aware of is that Ozempic, as well as other weight loss drugs, aren’t a magic bullet.

Chilling final words of matador gored to death by a bull

36-year-old Ivan Fandiño was a renowned matador, known for his courage to face bulls dubbed too dangerous by others.

Unfortunately, his passion for bullfighting ultimately cost him his life.

In 2017, Fandiño, originally from the Basque country, was taking part in the Aire-sur-l’Adour bullfighting festival in southwest France.

At one point, the matador got tangled in his cloak and fell to the ground, resulting in him being gored by the half-ton bull.

When he was taken out of the ring, he bled heavily. Emergency services transported him to the hospital, but he had suffered a heart attack and died.

Reportedly, on the way to the hospital, Fandiño said, “Hurry up, I’m dying.”

His internal organs, including his lungs were damaged from the bull attack.

At one point, the matador got tangled in his cloak and fell to the ground, resulting in him being gored by the half-ton bull.

Matador Juan del Alamo, who later killed the bull, said at the time: “I can’t believe it. None of us understand how it could have happened; it was all so fast. The bull knocked him down with its hindquarters and he fell face down.”

Prior the fatal incident, Fandiño had been injured twice during a bullfight. In 2015, he was thrown into the air by a bull in Spain, and a year later, he was left unconscious in Bayonne, France.

Fandiño was the first matador to die in France since 1921, when matador Isidoro Mari Fernando lost his life in the arena in Béziers.

The number of bulls losing their lives in these fights in France is around 1,000.

The Spanish royal family and prime minister honored Fandiño, with King Felipe saying he was a “great bullfighter figure.”

Bullfighting is considered a controversial and cruel practice. Back in 2010, the Catalan regional government in Barcelona voted for a ban, but the decision was overturned by the Spanish constitutional court in 2016, calling bullfighting a “cultural heritage.”

El Salvador president’s harsh response on returning father wrongfully deported to the ‘world’s worst prison’

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia was among the Venezuelan immigrants transported to the Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador, also known as the “world’s worst prison” by Trump’s administration.

His deportation took place despite immigration officials admitting to making an administrative error when arresting him.

Garcia was indeed an illegal immigrant who arrived in the Sates in 2011, but a judge ruled in 2019 that he shouldn’t be deported back to his homeland due to threats by gangs.

Upon acknowledging the mistake, a Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s administration must ‘facilitate’ Garcia’s return.

Garcia’s wife, Jennifer Stefania Vasquez Sura, has been vocal of his situation. She speaks of the injustice that has been done to him and his family.

“I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn’t forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home … they miss their dad so much,” she said.

However, following an alleged meeting between Trump and El Salvador’s leader, Nayib Bukele, it was determined that Garcia’s potential return to US is up to Bukele, who isn’t willing to do such a thing.

“I hope you’re not suggesting that I smuggle a terrorist into the United States. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? Of course I’m not going to do it. The question is preposterous,” the El Salvador leader said.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that returning Kilmar Garcia to the Sates from El Salvador isn’t a decision that can be made by the US.

“That’s up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That’s not up to us,” Bondi said. “The Supreme Court ruled that if El Salvador wants to return him … we would facilitate it: meaning, provide a plane.”

Trying to explain how the mistake could happen in the first place, acting ICE field office director, Robert Cerna, explained that Garcia was “not on the initial manifest of the Title 8 flight to be removed to El Salvador,” but was an “alternate.”

He simply dubbed it an “oversight.”

According to The Telegraph, the US government claimed Garcia is a wife abuser, not an “upstanding Maryland” resident.

This came after documents of his wife asking for a restraining order against him in the past have come to light.

She, however, claims things between her and Garcia never escalated and they didn’t take the matter to court.

In fact, she only asked for a civil protective order in case things escalated, acting out of caution after an argument because she had experienced domestic violence with another partner in the past.

The reason tourists are rethinking trips to the US and which places they are choosing instead

A visit to the United States of America has long been a dream of millions of foreign tourists, and we can see why. The country offers a plethora of iconic landmarks and attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon, Times Square, and Disney World among the rest.

At the same time, US is a favorable destination because of the diverse landscapes and the cultural influence it has on other countries.

In 2023, US welcomed 66.5 million visitors, but according to a recent research by the Tourism Economics these numbers may drop sharply in 2025.

According to the publication, a number of potential visitors are rethinking their plans to travel to the States which will result in potential $18 billion reduction in tourist spending.

BBC reports that the main reason for this ‘phenomena’ are the decisions made by the Trump’s administration, including imposing tariffs to nearly every country in the world.

“The nation’s stricter border enforcement has recently led to the detention of Canadian and European tourists, prompting Germany, the UK, Denmark, Finland and Portugal to issue travel warnings and advisories for the country,” the publication writes.

Justin Trudeau, the former prime minister of Canada, urged the people of his country to choose Canada.

Until now, around 20 million Canadians visited the States annually, but with the tariffs and Trump’s threats to annex the nation and make it part of the US, the numbers are expected to drop significantly.

As reported by Statistics Canada, border crossing were down by 20% in February of this year. While some Canadians decide to avoid US as a tourist destination because of Trump’s politics, other say they don’t feel safe traveling there.

It is the same with other European countries. A majority of people in Britain (53%), Germany (56%), Sweden (63%), and Denmark (74%) find the US unfavorably.

The number of people authorities are detaining due to different issues, mainly their visas, has grown in recent months.

A number of countries have advised their non-binary and transgender citizens to declare their biological sex at birth on their visa applications. This comes after Trump signed an executive order that only recognized two genders, male and female.

Reportedly, Bermuda and a number of European countries became preferable destinations, with the number of Canadians who made reservations at Bermuda hotels and resorts increasing for 20%. Those at European countries jumped to 32% compared to 2024.

Visa and entry restrictions are likely to impact major US events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.

US workers and small businesses will mostly feel the impact by the US travel boycotts, many believe. Hundreds of thousands of jobs will be at risk since tourism is a significant contributor to US economy.

Immigration parole ruling by Judge Talwani under scrutiny amid political connections and history of controversy

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani temporarily blocked the effort by the Trump administration‘s to terminate the CHNV parole program established during President Biden’s term for migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

The plan presented by the head of CHNV was to revoke the parole status of around 500,000 migrants coming from these countries on April 24.

Judge Talwani argued in a 41-page order filed in Boston federal court that abruptly revoking these people’s parole status would tear families apart and force them to endure hardship.

This decision gave hope to around half-a-million migrants who expect to stay in the U.S. for a two-year period.

“The immediate impact of the shortening of their grant of parole is to cause their lawful status in the United States to lapse early — in less than two weeks,” the judge wrote. “If their parole status is allowed to lapse, [the paroled immigrants] will be faced with two unfavorable options: continue following the law and leave the country on their own, or await removal proceedings.

“If [they] leave the country on their own, they will face dangers in their native countries,” she added.

The publication further states that most of the people Trump’s administration wanted to sent back to their native countries have been working in South Florida after receiving help from relatives and after seeking asylum and other forms of protection.

However, Talwani ruling is now under scrutiny by the government following the release of information regarding her past involvements in multiple Democratic campaigns.

Among the rest, she volunteered for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, presidential candidate Barack Obama, state Attorney General Martha Coakley, and Senator Elizabeth Warren.

This raises the question whether judges with partisan history should step aside from cases with strong political significance. Past political involvement with certain political party can negatively affect the critical perception of judicial impartiality, experts argue.

However, the most controversial aspect of Talwani’s past political involvement is her work with the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), an organization reportedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The association’s founder, Fay Wong, was said to have described China’s Communist revolution as “very inspiring,” which many saw as evidence of the organization’s ideological alignment.

Judge Talwani who ruled to terminate the CHNV parole program received a “Workers Justice Award” from CPA in the past.

Critics argue that Talwani’s most recent ruling is an example of judges using their authority to promote progressive policies lawmakers have failed to pass.

Experts caution against using air fryers instead of ovens

Technological advances have definitely made their way into the kitchen. Nowadays, more and more people have replaced their ovens with air fryers, which have become very popular appliances.

They have overtaken the place of the slow-cookers and work using hot air that circulates at a very high speed.

Air Fryers are a healthier alternative to deep frying, providing the same results but with no or much less oil.

However, culinary experts claim that there are certain foods that shouldn’t be cooked in an air fryer.

While broccoli won’t do great in this appliance because of its bland taste compared to the old-fashioned cooking, it is other foods that are the main concern.

For example, popcorn is a definite air fryer faux pas due to its potential to ignite, Mirror reports. This is because the kernels may get stuck in the air fryer’s heating elements, posing a serious fire threat.

Another ingredient is the wet batter. The crispy coating on fried chicken is something most chicken lovers enjoy, but an air fryer won’t get hot enough for it to set properly, resulting in a messy and soggy dish.

Martin Lewis, a money-saving expert, says that relying on air fryers for cooking everything may not always be a good idea because of the time and money it takes for certain foods to be made.

“Air fryers are good for small things that cook quickly,” he said during an appearance on This Morning. “If you’re gonna have to use your air fryer 15 different times for different items, generally, on energy usage, you’d be better off to use an oven. So it’s an interesting thought.”

He continued: “If you’re gonna have to use your air fryer fifteen different times for different items, generally on energy usage you’d be better off to use an oven.

“If you’re doing a jacket potato for 10 minutes it’s going to be far cheaper [in the microwave] than doing a single jacket potato in an oven and keeping it on for an hour and a half.

Steven Kipling at Which? backs up this opinion. “The savings soon drop off if you have to cook in batches. And if you’ve got lots to cook you might well, as air fryers don’t have as much space as a typical oven or hob. So if you’re cooking a large amount of food, the oven or hob may still be the most economical choice.”

Despite this, those that rely on air fryers a lot hate the idea of not using this appliance every day, even for many times.

“I’m not listening to him on this. I’m air-frying everything. I’ll even air fry a cup of tea,” one person commented.

Doctor warns of disturbing reason to avoid taking a cruise ‘anytime soon’

In a viral TikTok video, Doctor Rubin, a well-known paediatrician who shares plenty of advice on the social media, has issued a warning about avoiding taking a cruise ‘anytime soon.’

“Here’s why you’re not gonna see me on a cruise ship anytime soon, and I encourage people to consider this before they book a cruise,” he started his latest video that has since gone viral.

“So you know how there’s been all these cuts at federal public health agencies lately? Well one of them is the CDC’s vessel sanitation program which conducts health inspections on cruise ships at least twice a year.”

Dr Rubin then went on to discuss the recent budget cuts to federal agencies in America which have also affected health and safety inspections on ships.

Referring to an CBA News article that stated cruise ship inspectors have been “laid off amid bad year for outbreaks,” the doctor added: “Well one of [the cuts] is to the CDC’s vessel sanitation program, which conducts health inspections on cruise ships at least twice a year and they trace outbreaks to help reduce the chances of more people getting sick.”

“We’ve already had 12 Norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships this year compared to eight last year,” he continued.

Norovirus, also known as the ‘winter vomiting bug,’ is a highly contagious virus that spreads easily in cramped environments such as cruise ships. Some of the symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, body aches, a high temperature and a headache.

VT reported that 69 passengers and 13 crew members from the Coral Princess, that were on a three-week trip from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale, have been affected by the virus.

Virus outbreaks have also been reported on 12 other cruise ships.

“The cruise ships pay for these health inspections, so it’s not like we’re actually saving any money from the taxpayers perspective. This makes absolutely no sense,” Dr Rubin concluded.

While there have been those who agreed with the doctor about his warning to avoid taking a cruise at this time, there have also been those who accused him of “fear mongering.”

“Sorry but I love cruising. I already have 2 cruises booked,” one person commented.

“We cruise every year and just went in mid February, which is prime time for norovirus. We were on Carnival’s biggest ship and were fine.”

Nearly a billion dollars of DOGE’s ‘savings’ vanished overnight

Donald Trump’s presidency so far has featured a plethora of executive orders and political decisions, some of which controversial. Most recently, his administration came under fire because of the high tariffs he imposed on nearly every country in the world.

Experts argue that this decision will affect U.S. economy and trigger inflation, but Trump believes it would in fact strengthen the economy. He even asked from the public to trust his judgement, promising to make America great again.

Kamala Harris was among those who predicted the situation the country is currently in. She claimed during the presidential campaign that in case Trump gets elected, his plans “would weaken our economy, would inflate inflation, and would bring a recession on by the middle of next year.”

Besides the controversies surrounding Trump’s political decisions, it is the work of his friend Elon Musk that causes a stir.

Even since Trump appointed him the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, a special program aimed at reducing government spending and bureaucracy, Musk has triggered the backlash of a number of experts.

According to Economic Times, Musk claimed in February that DOGE have reduced federal spending by $65 billion through “a combination of asset sales, contract cancellations, fraud deletion, interest savings, and workforce reductions.”

Following these claims, nearly $1 billion-worth of savings from DOGE’s advertized sum suddenly ‘vanished’ when they updated their website recently, NOTUS reports.

According to the investigative platform, “DOGE removed around $962 million in previously claimed cuts and altered hundreds of others to boost individual items’ purported ‘savings’ values.”

While DOGE pledged to be transparent regarding their savings, their website remained without any updates from the end of March to April 14, when they wrote the “agency” has saved $155 billion.

While many judged the work of Musk and DOGE, the White House defended him, with the press secretary Karoline Leavitt sating that “rogue bureaucrats and activist judges attempting to undermine this effort are only subverting the will of the American people.”

Former President Joe Biden made a rare public appearance this week to address Social Security and the White House secretary, Karoline Leavitt, was asked for a comment regarding Biden’s speech.

However, her answer sparked outrage with many dubbing her comment “rude” and “disgusting.”

“My first reaction when seeing former President Biden was speaking tonight was, I’m shocked that he is speaking at nighttime,” Leavitt said. “I thought his bedtime was much earlier than his speech tonight.”

The press secretary, who is the youngest to have ever served the position, went on to discuss Trump’s stance on Social Security and speaking of his commitment to protecting it, it was her comment about Biden that has everyone talking.

“President Trump is absolutely certain about protecting Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens and seniors who have paid into this program,” she said.

“He will always protect this program. He campaigned on it,” she said and added: He protected it in his first term, and he’s back again to continue protecting it.”

As expected, Leavitt, who was a small-town girl before serving in the White House, faced intense criticism.

“No class at all. Shame on you. How old is your HUSBAND? You will be saying the same thing not far away,” one person commented, pointing out the 32-year-age gap between her and her real-estate mogul husband.

“Very rude. She’s talking about a former US President. He deserves at least respect!” another person wrote.

“Ok, so, although I do usually like her blunt nature, however, this was immature and disrespectful,” another added. “I did not care for President Biden, but he was still our President, and he is still a person.”

Biden returns to stage with brutal warning for Trump and Musk

After months of staying out of the spotlight, former President Joe Biden spoke at a national conference hosted by the Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD) in Chicago.

He used the opportunity to address his concerns regarding Social Security.

Biden began his speech by recognizing the day’s importance, marked by Democrats as Social Security National Day of Action.

“Everyone in this room fights for people with disabilities who rely on Social Security to survive – and it’s not just the physical side, it’s the mental side. You make sure folks get the benefits they earn after a lifetime of hard work, the work they do is more than just a profession, what you do, it’s a calling.”

Biden added in his speech that “Social Security is more than a government program. It’s a sacred promise,” before he accused Republicans in Congress of wanting to “cut and gut” the program.

“They want to let social security expire every five years – that was a proposal – unless re-authorized by the Congress. Who the hell do they think they are?” he question before adding: “I will not go further. I’ll get in trouble.”

While he praised his administration for securing nearly $2 billion to improve government services and reduce wait times, he accused the current administration for raising the debt ceiling, giving a lavish tax cut to the wealthy.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries commented on Biden’s speech, saying, “This is an all hands on deck moment, which is why President Biden’s voice in this moment is so important.”

Biden also criticized the mass layoffs at the Social Security Administration and the controversial data-sharing proposals involving Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

During his speech, Biden didn’t mention any names, referring to those he spoke about as to “this guy” and “these guys.”

The White House spokesperson, Steven Cheung, commented on Biden’s address, saying his speech was “incoherent.”

“President Trump has repeatedly promised to protect Social Security and ensure higher take-home pay for seniors by ending the taxation of Social Security benefits. Anybody saying otherwise is either stupid or an all-out liar, or both in Biden’s case,” Cheung, said in a statement.

Home Alone 2 director describes Trump’s cameo as a ‘curse’

Home Alone has become a beloved classic earning its place as a timeless favorite for generations of fans.

The second sequel of the film shows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, boarding a flight to New York instead of Miami, where his family were spending the holiday.

One of the scenes features the boy walking through the Plaza, which Donald Trump owned at the time. He then stumbles upon Trump, asking for directions to the lobby.

Years after Home Alone 2 has been released, director Chris Columbus opened up about Trump’s cameo, dubbing it a “curse.”

“It’s become this curse. It’s become an albatross for me. I just wish it was gone,” Columbus told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Previously, the director, who also directed Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films, among others, revealed that Trump had “bullied his way into the movie.”

“We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie’,” Columbus said. “So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened. People cheered when Trump showed up on screen.

“So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’”

In 2023, Trump disputed Columbus’ claims in a Truth Social post. He wrote he was busy and didn’t want to do it, but they were persistent.

“That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time. People call me whenever it is aired. Now, however, 30 years later, Columbus (what was his real name?) put out a statement that I bullied myself into the movie. Nothing could be further from the truth. That cameo helped make the movie a success … Just another Hollywood guy from the past looking for a quick fix of Trump publicity for himself!”

When Trump’s cameo was cut for a Canadian production of the movie in 2014, he tweeted, “The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).”

However, Columbus says he can’t cut the president’s cameo now as he fears deportation.

“If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States. So I’ll have to go back to Italy or something,” he told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Fears come as Trump’s administration has deported 238 supposed criminals – American immigrants – to the “world’s worst prison” in El Salvador. Among them has been a teen who hasn’t had a criminal record. In fact, Trump’s administration admitted to have made a mistake when they arrested the teen, but he was sent to the notorious prison anyways, leaving his father searching for answers.

Doctor claims Donald Trump could face major health issues as new photos emerge

Donald Trump has undergone his first physical examination as part of his second term in office, bragging about his health and about scoring 30 out of 30 on the cognitive test, getting every single question right.

However, despite the results of the examination the White House released, which show he “exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health making him fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” new photos of the president raised concerns about his well-being.

Namely, photos of him released recently show that he has lost a significant amount of weight.

Since 2022, Trump has lost an impressive 30lbs (2st).

In the past, he spoke of his fondness of McDonald’s and fast food, as well as of diet cokes and well done steaks, but it appears that he has changed his lifestyle and his diet.

However, as much as his supporters are happy for his new looks, Dr. Daniel Atkinson believes Trump’s slim figure could be a red flag for deeper health concerns.

According to the Irish Star, Dr. Atkinson said that individuals of Trump’s age are at a higher risk of health problems, including diabetes.

“For a hypothetical person, who has taken on the office of President of the United States for a second term, at the age of 80, there might be several factors that could affect their weight,” the doctor argued.

“An almost 80 year old with a busy schedule might be more susceptible to certain conditions that can cause weight loss. Diabetes, for instance, can trigger weight fluctuations when the condition is uncontrolled. Blood sugar can become more difficult to regulate as we age, and insulin resistance can develop with age.”

This, of course, doesn’t mean Trump has diabetes.

It just suggests one of the possible reasons for his weight loss.

The White House hasn’t made any comments regarding the health of Donald Trump following the emergence of the photos. They did, however, stated he did well on his physical and cognitive examination.

Not long ago, health experts showed their concerns regarding his health when his hands appeared bruised during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Disturbing post surfaces from FSU shooter before campus tragedy

Two people were killed and at least six others were severely injured in the Thursday mass shooting on the grounds of Florida State University.

One of the victims has been identified as Robert Morales.

The FSU shooter, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, was identified as the stepson of Deputy Jessica Ikner of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

According to officials, he had access to one of his stepmother’s weapons – the one that was found at the scene on campus. Ikner was also injured during the shooting and has since been hospitalized.

Following the tragic incident, the shooter’s final post on the social media has been made public. He wrote, “you are my war club, my weapons for battle, with you I shatter nations, with you I destroy kingdoms,” a quote from the book of Jeremiah in the Bible warning of the coming day of judgment.

Before the attack, Ikner shared white supremacist views with some of his classmates.

Ikner “espoused so much white supremacist rhetoric, and far-right rhetoric as well, to the point where we had to exercise that rule,” classmate Reid Seybold revealed.

The FSU shooter had also made fun of college students who opposed the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

“These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons,” he wrote in a school magazine.

“I think it’s a little too late, he’s [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there’s not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don’t think anyone wants that.”

According to the statement released by Leon County Sheriff McNeil, the FSU shooter was “steeped in the Leon County Sheriff’s Office family.” He was a part of the department’s youth setup and participated in training and other activities.

Dakota Bages who on campus at the time of the shooting recalled the moment the fire started. “We just kind of heard ruckus,” she told CNN. “We heard these kind of screams from what sounded like a man. And then we heard a woman scream – kind of like she had been toppled over.”

Still unaware of what was happening, they tried to hide themselves.

“Some are crying. Some are trying to keep their cool. Others are screaming: ‘Get in, get in! Push the table! Cover the door!’ They ended up lifting up these huge desks – that are meant to be computer desks – lifting them up and putting them against this glass wall,” Bages said.

All she could hear was screams from frightened classmates.

Representatives of the hospital where the victims have been admitted said all six of them are in a serious condition, with one being critical.

As a precaution, the Leon County School District put buildings near the campus on lockdown.

According to experts, four common morning habits most of us have can increase the risk of a stroke.

A stroke is when blood stops flowing to a part of your brain, as explained by NHS. It can affect the speech and the movement, and often, it takes a lot of time for the person to recover. As it represents a life-threatening condition, it requires urgent medical help.

One of the things to avoid doing in the morning is jumping out of bed abruptly. The reason is that when we get out of the bed suddenly, it can cause a sudden spike in blood pressure, putting extra strain on the arteries.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quang from the Military Medical Academy explains that during sleep our parasympathetic nervous system dominates, which means the heart rate is slower and the blood pressure is lower.

Teen deported to ‘world’s worst prison’ even after Trump officials admit mistake

Many of the executive orders President Donald Trump signed since taking office for the second time have caused a stir.

Most recently, his administration signed the order for 238 supposed criminals – American immigrants – to be transferred to what is known as the “world’s worst prison” in El Salvador.

The decision was made even after a federal judge ruled against the order.

Namely, the current administration claimed that at the time of the judge’s ruling, the plane carrying the immigrants was already in international airspace.

It was revealed that among those deported to the “world’s worst prison,” The Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT), was a teen, 19, with no prior criminal record.

Namely, Merwil Gutiérrez was not the person intended to be arrested, and despite the mistake, which the administration confessed making, the teen was sent to El Salvador.

His devastated father, Wilmer Gutiérrez, is now searching for answers.

“I feel like my son was kidnapped. I’ve spent countless hours searching for him, going from one precinct to another, speaking with numerous people who kept referring me elsewhere,” he told Documented. “Yet, after all this, no one has given me any information or provided a single document about his case.”

At the time of his arrest on February 24, Gutiérrez was with friends in front of his apartment.

“The officers grabbed him and two other boys right at the entrance to our building,” Wilmer added.

As reported by People, William Parra, an immigration attorney from Inmigración Al Día, said, “Merwil was detained for hanging out with friends and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. ICE was not looking for him, nor is there any evidence whatsoever that Merwil was in any gang.”

“The officers grabbed him and two other boys right at the entrance to our building,” the dad recalled. “One said, ‘No, he’s not the one,’ like they were looking for someone else. But the other said, ‘Take him anyway.'”

The father and son arrived in the States in 2023, running from the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.

Further, the father of the teen deported to the “world’s worst prison” says he feels like his son had been kidnapped. So far, he hasn’t been given any answers.

“I could have understood if he’d been sent back to Venezuela,” he said. “But why to a foreign country he’s never even been to?”
