The prom is an important milestone in high-school students’ life. It represents the end of a chapter, and the start of a new one. It is also the night when teenagers get the chance to shine through their carefully chosen outfit and make up thus have the night of their life surrounded by peers with whom they spent years filled with memories worth cherishing.

Sadly, not everyone is eager to attend this special night.

Shannon Purcifer, a 16-year-old teenager from Britain, was happy about the prom night. She bought a stunning dress that she couldn’t wait to wear, but then, her desire was crushed into a million pieces.

Namely, this beautiful girl has been battling several diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and ulcers, which causes her troubles walking at times. Because of this, she has been a victim of bullying by her classmates. They ridicule her because of her heath and make fun of her condition. The mean words and the pressure she faced made her decide not to attend the prom night.

In order to raise awareness of the negative consequences of bullying, Shannon’s mother took to Facebook to share her daughter’s heartbreak.

“Shannon would have had a gorgeous outfit if she had attended the prom tonight. But, “thanks” to her awful classmates, she didn’t want to go, mix with the mess that made her so unhappy. For a young child who had to struggle through so much… She is one of the strongest young women I know, and her mind is even stronger. I love you, darling!”

Once the story went viral, people from all over the country reached Shannon’s mom and offered to help her organize a private prom with many guests for her daughter, and that’s exactly what this mother did.

They invited some of Shannon’s friends and she could finally put on the dress she bought.

What’s most, this girl was accompanied to her prom by 120 motorcyclists who showed up to support her and help raise awareness against bullying.

Shannon had the time of her life because she was surrounded by people who love her and care for her.

Let this story serve as a reminder to always react when you notice someone is being bullied.
