Parents warn of fatal microwave mistake after 7-year-old girl suffers severe injuries and falls into a coma

The social media has become a scary place, especially for children who fail to distinguish between real videos and those created with the help of artificial intelligence, leading to various extremely dangerous challenges they are willing to try themselves, including the latest one involving a NeeDoh cube.

A 7-year-old girl suffered severe injuries and fell into a coma after trying to recreate a NeeDoh trend she had seen on YouTube and TikTok.

Little Scarlett Selby put her NeeDoh, a super stretchy dough filled groovy glob loved by youngsters, into the microwave before freezing it after watching a video of someone doing it.

Kennedy News and Media

Unfortunately, the toy exploded, “covering Scarlett’s face and chest with the red-hot goo contents inside the cube,” as per Uniland.

Scarlett’s father, Josh Shelby, heard his daughter’s frantic screams and rushed to her, trying to take off the substance from her face and clothes.

“She’d frozen the NeeDoh cube the night before and the next day she showed me it was rock solid and was playing with it,” the devastated dad said.

“She stuck it in the microwave. I was watching her and saw her touch it to check it wasn’t too hot when she pulled it out.

“It all happened so quickly. I heard her scream and it was like a blood-curdling scream. It had exploded all over her chest, mouth and chin.”

Scarlett’s dad rushed her to St Louis Children’s Hospital where doctors put her into an induced coma in hopes of preventing her airways from swelling up and closing.

“She was still screaming when we got to the hospital and it’s a good 30-minute drive from where we live. It was terrible how scared she was and how much that hurt her,” Scarlett’s mother, Amanda, said.

“I was panicked, devastated, terrified and heartbroken.”

The little girl spent three days in a coma and suffered second and third-degree burns. Today, four months after the devastating incident took place, Scarlett’s parents still wait to learn if their girl would need to undergo a skin grafts surgery.

So far, her parents have treated Scarlett’s scars with creams and silicon ointments. They say she’s self-conscious of her scars.

Kennedy News and Media

At the same time, they are trying to raise awareness of the dangers of the content found on the social media and the potential dangers of the toy that caused Scarlett the injuries.

The NeeDoh manufacturer, Schylling Toys, has a warning on its website that reads: “Do NOT heat, freeze, or microwave, may cause personal injury.”

They partnered with social media sites to make sure any content related to the misuse of their product is removed from the platforms.

Passports facing restrictions in the US after Trump’s gender executive order

Since he took office for the second time, serving as the 47th president of the country, Donald Trump signed a plethora of executive orders. One of them will lead to passports facing restrictions in the US.

Among the rest, Trump signed executive orders that will affect immigration, employment, and climate changes.

However, the one he signed as soon as he delivered his inauguration speech was titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”

This directive now directly impacts non-binary individuals after Biden’s administration introduced a policy allowing them to mark an X under gender in their passports.

According to Trump’s order, the country now recognizes only two genders, male and female, categories based on biological sex assigned at birth. This means that those identifying as non-binary, genderqueer, or other gender-diverse identity, won’t be able to use the neutral X option determining their gender. This extends to all federal documentation, including passports, birth certificates, and other forms of identification.

Uniland reports that a 2021 survey shows the number of individuals holding a passport with X gender in the States has been 1.2 million.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told employees, “The policy of the United States is that an individual’s sex is not changeable.”

He added that sex, not gender, should be used on official documentation, with passports now facing restrictions in the US.

As per the NBC News, the State Department will no longer issue “X” sex markers for U.S. passports or birth records for U.S. citizens with children born abroad. Further, Marco Rubio told employees “not take any further action” on those applications “pending additional guidance from the Department.”

At the moment, the passports already issued with the X gender options are valid, however, those who need to update their travel documents in the near future may face difficulties.

The ‘world’s worst prison’ gets its first American immigrants after Trump ‘defies judge’s ruling’

A plane carrying American immigrants, suspected members of a Venezuelan gang, touched down in El Salvador under Trump’s command despite the judge’s ruling.

The order passed by Trump’s administration required 238 supposed criminals – American immigrants – to be transferred to what is known as the “world’s worst prison” in El Salvador.

A federal judge ruled against the order, but at the time the plane carrying the alleged gang members was already in international airspace, thus Trump’s administration claimed they didn’t break any laws.

Trump’s order has been based on an 18th century law – which was intended for wartime and targeted Venezuelan gang members – with the government claiming the country is facing an “invasion” of criminal organizations linked to kidnappings, killings, and other crimes.

US is expected to pay the government of President Nayib Bukele $6 million for one year of services.

The infamous prison where the members of the Tren de Aragua gang were deported – the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT – was built in 2023 when president Bukele announced the war against organized crime.

Bukele himself announced the arrival of the American immigrants transferred to El Salvador from America. He posted photos of them handcuffed, writing that the “first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organisation” had landed and that “the United States will pay a very low fee for them, but a high one for us.”

“As always, we continue advancing in the fight against organized crime. But this time, we are also helping our allies, making our prison system self-sustainable, and obtaining vital intelligence to make our country an even safer place. All in a single action,” he wrote on X.

“May God bless El Salvador, and may God bless the United States.”

President Trump also posted about the transfer, blaming Joe Biden and his administration for infiltrating the criminals to the United States.

“These are monsters sent into our Country by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats. How dare they!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Thank you to El Salvador, and in particular President Bukele, for your understanding of this horrible situation, which was allowed to happen to the United States because of Democrat leadership.

“We will not forget.”

And while many judge Trump for this action, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, released a statement in which she claimed a single federal judge from a single county, and his ruling, “cannot direct the movements of an aircraft carrier full of foreign alien terrorists who were physically expelled from US soil.”

The statement added that federal courts “have no jurisdiction” over the president’s foreign affairs.

Trump said he believes the gang members are tied to the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to AP, the conditions in the prison are inhumane, with inmates forced to fight over food and water. It doesn’t offer any educational programmes that would help those serving to adapt to outside life ones released.

Also, according to Venezuela’s minister of justice, “those held at CECOT would never return to their communities.”

I fired a single mom for being late – then learned the truth and asked for forgiveness

When I fired Celia, a single mom, for being late for the third time that month, I believed I was just a reasonable manager.

I called her at my office and even before saying a single word, she knew why she was there. Celia didn’t say anything after learning her fate in the company, she just grabbed her purse and left.

Later that afternoon, I overheard two co-workers talking about Celia and feeling pity about her poor son who was forced to sleep with her in her car.

“What do you mean sleeping in her car?” I asked one of them before pulling her aside.

That’s when I learned the truth about the single mom I had fired, before asking if her lateness was due to any personal struggles.

Celia was evicted a month ago, so she was forced to live in her car together with her son. Her ex abandoned them and she worked two jobs whenever she could. The nearby shelters were crowded and wouldn’t accept them, but a church across town allowed them to shower from time to time. Driving to the church which was rather far was the reason she was late for work three times.

I felt sick to my stomach. That woman struggled to make ends meet, she struggled to survive, and I only made things worse for her.

That evening, I couldn’t sleep. All I could think of was Celia and her son. I did her wrong, and I had to make things right.

I tried contacting her first thing in the morning, but she didn’t pick up the phone. She neither answered my texts.

So, I decided to track her down by visiting every shelter and every food bank. But Celia was nowhere to be found.

And then, finally, a woman from a church told me that Celia was there two nights ago. But she didn’t know where she could be at that moment.

I decided to park my car there. If she was there once, she may return. And that’s exactly what happened.

When Celia spotted me, her face went pale. I got out of my car and said, “Celia, I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”

I offered her the job back and promised to help her find an apartment at a complex my cousin managed.

“Why are you doing this?” she asked me.

“Because while following the rules I forgot how to be a human,” I said, struggling to contain my tears.

I managed to get Celia and her son into one of the apartments at my cousin’s complex, no deposit needed. Also, I did all in my power to get her access to assistance programs. It wasn’t ideal, but it was a start.

A few days later, Celia stopped by my office to thank me for my help.

That evening, I realized that I was very close to making a huge mistake. I also realized that between policies and procedures, we forget that people aren’t just numbers on spreadsheets. Everyone is fighting their own battle, and sometimes, all they need is someone willing to listen.

Elon Musk questions rising healthcare costs — Mark Cuban explains 7 reasons CEOs are part of the problem

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, now the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, questioned why the U.S. can’t afford healthcare and why medical costs keep rising.

Posting on X, the social platform he owns, Musk cited that the country has the highest healthcare administrative costs among Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries.

“Shouldn’t the American people be getting their money’s worth?” the Tesla owner asked.

Musk’s remarks were met with pushback, with Mark Cuban pointing out that CEOs like Elon Musk are in fact a huge part of the problem.

Pixabay

According to Cuban, the government isn’t the one to blame for the problem entirely. On the contrary, he stated that it is the CEOs of self-insured companies who sign contracts that make drug prices worse.

“The key is the contracts CEOs of self-insured companies sign. The PBM contracts YOU have signed for Tesla, SpaceX, and X have more impact on healthcare costs than anything you can do with DOGE,” Cuban said.

With a seven-point list, Mark Cuban explained to Elon Musk exactly how these contracts affect the prices of the drugs.

His list stated:

  1. Don’t control your claims data
  2. Don’t control your formulary
  3. Have to pay more for “Specialty Drugs” that have nothing special about them
  4. Get rebates that are paid for by your sickest and oldest employees and result in higher deductibles and co-pays that impact the wellness of your workers and their families.
  5. Cause independent pharmacies to be reimbursed for less than their costs for brand drug scripts for your employees and families, causing them to go out of business.
  6. Can’t talk to manufacturers to put together wellness programs for things like GLP1s.
  7. Signed a PBM contract with an NDA which prevents you from publicly discussing your PBM contract, resulting in an opaque, inefficient market, which leads to higher prices and lower quality of care for the entire country.

Cuban, however, says his company, Cost Plus Drugs, is trying to provide solutions.

They are trying to take the PBMs out of the equation and sell drugs directly to the customers at more reasonable prices. The pricing would be transparent, showing the actual cost and the 15% markup. It would also feature a flat $3 pharmacy fee and $5 shipping.

Amid the rise of the healthcare costs and the frustrations that grow bigger with each passing day, the PMBs (pharmacy benefit managers) are under the spotlight as never before with many questioning their agreements with them.

Donald Trump – reason for avoiding military service during the Vietnam War traced to medical diagnosis

Millions of young Americans were drafted into the US Army due to the Vietnam War between 1955 and 1973. Current President Donald Trump was in his twenties at the time the Vietnam War started, but he didn’t become part of the military. Instead, he stayed home with his family.

As this information came to light, many wondered why Trump, who was rather young at the time and was 6’2, athletically-built college student, dodged the war.

In 1968, Donald Trump celebrated graduating from college – that same year, 16,899 Americans were killed in the Vietnam War.

NY Daily News Archive via Getty Images

Until that point, Trump avoided being drafted four times due to attending college.

He received four student deferments between 1964 and 1968 while attending Fordham University and the University of Pennsylvania. But even after his graduation, he received a deferment yet again. It was a medical deferment classified as 1-Y – later changed to 4-F – for bone spurs in his heels.

However, lack of documents showing that the business-mogul suffered from spurs in his heels sparked controversy.

Many are convinced that he had obtained the medical documents illegally in order to avoid the military service, while others believe his diagnosis was genuine. According to the The Gun Zone, there are no corroborating medical records to prove either belief.

Dr. Elysa Braunstein, daughter of late foot doctor Dr. Larry Braunstein, told The New York Times that her father had once rented a room from Donald’s dad, Fred Trump. “I know it was a favour,” she alleged, adding of Trump’s heel: “But did he examine him? I don’t know.”

Asked in recent times whether he has ever undergone a foot surgery, Trump said he hadn’t. “Over a period of time, it healed up,” he told Seattle Times.

Deferment could be obtained by influential people who could afford going to college. Those who couldn’t get it but were influential were deployed to noncombat zones such as Germany and Korea.
