Terminally ill man warned others not to make the same mistake he had made

There are times when despite feeling unwell, we refuse to visit a doctor hoping that the pain would eventually go away on its own. The sad reality is that if we don’t seek medical help when we first feel the symptoms of an illness, it may be too late when we do it.

A 31-year-old man from Middlesborough, UK, who was battling terminal cancer advocated about the importance of regular check-ups and visiting a doctor on time.

Liam Griffiths believed that he could have been able to beat the cancer had he turned to a medical professional sooner.

Despite his efforts to beat the illness, Liam was delivered the devastating news it was fatal.

Namely, he was suffering from peritoneal cancer, a form of cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen.

In an interview, Liam revealed that he started experiencing stomach swelling, chronic constipation, cramps and vomiting in March of 2023. Although his symptoms seemed to be severe, he didn’t visit a doctor because he was self-employed and didn’t want to lose out on wages.

He hoped the symptoms would go away, but they only worsened and became even more severe which forced him to seek medical help. Once at the hospital, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, but a month later he got a call from the doctor and was informed that he was in fact misdiagnosed and that he had cancer.

He started treatments right away, but sadly, his cancer was resistant to the chemotherapy.

Despite the gravity of his situation, this young man found the time and strength to send a message to every person out there, and that message is not to delay the doctor’s visit in case you feel something’s wrong with your body.

“I want to push this message because if just one or two people go to the hospital and get checked because of my mistake and my story, that would be amazing,” he said. “They found my cancer at stage three advanced – but if I had just gone to see the doctors earlier, maybe they could have caught it. I was self-employed, and I needed the money, so I just kept powering through. I did what I thought a man needed to do – I was manning up.”

Not losing hope despite the dull prognosis, Liam’s friend, Eve Bannatyne, started a fundraiser which helped raise over £18,000 in donations for Liam’s private treatment because his chemotherapy on the NHS no longer worked.

“I remember I asked what my life span would look like and my doctor said he doesn’t want to give me a timeframe of when my life could end, because he doesn’t want me to focus my whole life around it,Liam told Metro.

“I agreed and just decided I wanted to get home, fulfil some wishes and just live my life while I can.”

Sadly, Liam passed away on February 1, 2024.

The memorial service for him was led by Rev John Hearn. Liam’s dad spoke of his son and said, “Liam was a beautiful, funny, caring, big softie. As a kid he was very loving towards his mam and dad. There was always a cuddle. He also had his cheeky side.”

Liam’s life story serves as a reminder that we should always prioritize our health, even if that means losing out on wages or rescheduling certain commitments and duties.

We are so very sorry for this brave man’s passing. May he rest in peace.

Country singer Toby Keith dead at 62 following cancer battle

Country singer Toby Keith passed away Monday at the age of 62 following a battle with cancer, his family announced on Tuesday, February 6.

“Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family,” the statement issued by his family read.

“He fought his fight with grace and courage,” it continued. “Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

The Should’ve Been a Cowboy singer was disclosed the news of having cancer in June 2022.

Back then, he posted on his social media and left his fans devastated and praying for his well-being.

“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery,” he said in a June 2022 post on X (formerly Twitter). So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover, and relax.

“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T.”

Keith was probably one of the most famous names in country music.

Along with establishing a very successful career, he could also brag with an impressive family life.

Throughout his life, and especially throughout his battle with cancer, his wife of forty years, Tricia Lucus, was by his side.

The two met at a bar while he and his band were performing and they spent the night dancing together. At the time, Lucus was a 19 years old working as an oil company secretary and had a child she was raising on her own.

Speaking of Keith, she said that what attracted her to him was that “he was one of those larger-than-life guys, full of confidence.”

The couple tied the knot on March 24, 1984, after three years of dating. Keith adopted Lucus’ daughter and the two had children on their own.

Even before his diagnosis, Keith was an advocate about cancer research and in 2016 he established the Toby Keith Foundation to help provide children with cancer with housing for free.

At the People’s Choice Country Awards last September, where he received the Country Icon Award, the country singer icon shared insights into his treatment journey, describing it as a “roller coaster” experience.

His loss is immense. The world of music lost a legend, but his legacy would continue to live on. His resilient spirit would continue to inspire many more generations. May he rest in peace.

From biggest child star in the 1970s to looking ‘rough’ – his recent appearance has people concerned

Finding a place under the Hollywood sky is what many people dream of, but not many get to live that dream.

When he was still just a child, Ricky Schroder landed roles which helped him make a name for himself. He grew up in front of the eyes of the public and many of his fans, but the recent photos of the actor have people worried.

Ricky was born on April 13, 1970, in Staten Island, New York. He started his acting career in the late 1970s with the film The Champ. This role earned him a Golden Globe award and opened the doors to him for more movies and projects.

Later, Ricky played in Silver Spoons, airing from 1982 to 1987. This was another role the young actor earned acclaim for.

Over the years, he was part of popular shows such as NYPD BlueScrubs, and Strong Medicine. In addition to being in front of the camera, Ricky also tried himself behind it and worked as a director and producer. He produced a project titled Black Cloud in 2004 for which he received the Best Director Award at the San Diego International Film Festival.

However, as his career went upwards, he experienced troubles in his personal life. His then girlfriend Andrea Bernard accused him of domestic violence in 1992 and he got arrested.

Two years after the incident the two got back together and married. The couple welcomed four children together, Holden, Luke, Cambrie, and Faith, but they ended their relationship in 2016.

The divorce served as a downward spiral for Ricky who turned to partying and was unable to stay in a healthy relationship.

He and his first daughter became estranged and he was again arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend.

The bail he was asked to pay was $50,000 but the case was eventually dismissed.

In recent years, Ricky spends his days on his farm and tends to stay out of the limelight. He, however, stays in touch with his fans through his social media where he posts videos and photos of him and his home.

One of the recent videos he shared caused a stir. The reason why is that people believe his looks changed drastically. He could be seen in his full farmer regalia, wearing a hat and a denim shirt.

Ricky spoke of the old days, his youth, and his uncle who taught him a lot about the military. He also asked from his fans to never turn a blind eye to corruption in the federal system.

Most of the comments under the video weren’t related to what he had to say and the message he was trying to spread, but about his appearance, with many dubbing his looks ‘rough.’

“Ricky why are you looking so rough,” someone wrote. “What the hell happened to Ricky Schroder?” another added. “He looks ROUGH,” a third commented.

Of course, some fans defended the actor claiming his rigorous work as a farmer was the reason behind his appearance.

“He’s living. Hopefully, thriving,” a fan wrote.

“He looks great!” another person added. “Rough looks good on him!”

“He’s a farmer/rancher. Hard work is rough on the body. Much respect for Rick, living an honest life,” a third said.

We are glad Ricky Schroder is living his life to the fullest the way he loves.

King Charles diagnosed with cancer, beginning treatments, the Palace reports

King Charles faces a major health challenge. The head of the British monarchy has been diagnosed with cancer, according to the Palace.

It hasn’t been specified what form of cancer he has or at what stage it was discovered. The Palace, however, announced he started tretment today.

Few days ago, King Charles was admitted to the hospital for a surgery for enlarged prostate, which was described as a routine procedure during which doctors discovered the cancer. BBC writes that although there are no details regarding the form of the cancer, it is not a prostate cancer.

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement from Buckingham Palace reads.

The statement further states that he would be forced to either postpone or rearrange his royal duties because of the treatments.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.

A doctor weighs in on the mystery surrounding King Charles III’s ‘sausage fingers’ as photos of the monarch’s digits circulate on social media.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

The King’s most recent photo was taken yesterday, a day before his diagnosis was disclosed with the public.

He was seen waving the crowd with his wife Camilla while on their way to the church service in Sandringham.

As reported by People, King Charles shared the news of the diagnosis with his sons himself, and while William is in close contact with his father on a daily basis, Harry, who settled in sunny California after he and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties, is expected to travel to Britain in the days to come.

The King also personally informed his siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, before the news was made public.

Melissa Gilbert left Los Angeles for a simple cottage life in the Catskills: See inside her happy life now

It is truly amazing when child actors grow up in front of the eyes of the audience. We see them become stars and celebrate their every success as though it’s our own.

I bet most of you remember the children of the Ingalls family from Little House on the Prairie. If you do, you must be wondering where they are today and what they are up to.

The second oldest daughter of the family, Laura Ingalls, was played by actress Melissa Gilbert, who captured the hearts of the fans and became an acting sensation almost overnight. Well, more or less like the rest of the cast. Melissa was featured in commercials and had some minor roles before taking the part in Little House on the Prairie. During the run of the series, she played parts in other films including The Diary of Anne Frank and The Miracle Worker.

Born on on May 8, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, Melissa was given up for adoption by her parents who each had three children from their previous marriages and feared they couldn’t provide for another child. Melissa was lucky to be welcomed into the life of her adoptive parents, actor Paul Gilbert and actress/dancer Barbara Crane, from whom she learned all about the entertainment business.

In 2015, Melissa took a role in the short film One Smart Fellow, and played in Secret and Lies and The Night Shift some years before. She is also a writer. Her autobiography Prairie Tale: A Memoir speaks of the period of her life during the famous series.

As she goes back to the time of filming the series, she recalls she had a fun time with the rest of the crew.

Portraying a girl living on a farm seemed exciting back then, and it looks like Melissa got to love that way of living so she and her husband, actor-director Timothy Busfield, moved from Michigan to new home in New York a few years ago and even bought a hunting cabin and considered getting chickens and building a barn for goats and horses, she revealed during a virtual Television Critics Association panel focusing on the PBS American Masters biography “Laura Ingalls Wilder.” However, the coronavirus pandemic forced them to put their plans on hold.

Today, however, they do live in the cabin and their days seem picture perfect. The place needed a full renovation, but despite the challenges, they were determined to turn the place into a comfortable home.

The first step was getting rid of the staff the previous owners left there. Next, they needed to get rid of the rodents and mildew and fix the plumbing.

They refurbished the cabinets, installed red vinyl chairs, and heated the house with a wood fire.

King Charles’ bold plan for Prince Louis: He might follow in his grandfather’s footsteps with royal shake-up

When it comes to their parenting, Kate and William do everything in their power to provide their children with a normal childhood, of course, as much as something like that is possible considering that Prince George would become a King one day.

The youngest of their children, Prince Louis, is one of the most charming little boys who never misses a chance to make the world smile with the silly faces he makes during royal occasions. Most of his photos which portray him ‘misbehaving,’ such as those from his grandfather’s public birthday celebration when he was shown either holding a sneeze, trying not to laugh openly, or simply reacting to a bad smell, entertain the public.

Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images

His parents make sure Louis is treated gently. “William and Kate are easier on Louis because he’s the baby of the family. They don’t want to break his little spirit,” an insider told OK! Magazine.

“Louis is quite a handful,” the source added. “William and Kate do their best to teach him how to behave but understand these events are tiresome for a youngster. They are like other parents with young children in this way. It does make them more relatable to the public.

“They gently admonish him when he gets out of hand because he’s got to learn,” the source said of George and Charlotte. “William and Kate know the day will come and making faces won’t be ‘cute.’ Hopefully Louis will grow out of it.”

According to royal experts, Louis, as well as his sister Charlotte, would continue having royal roles as time goes by, but Louis will likely be just a ‘private citizen’ rather than a full-time working royal just like his father’s cousins Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and Zara Tindall who have often been involved in larger royal events of recent years, though they’re not considered full-time working royals.

Chris Jackson/Getty Images

“George, Charlotte, and Louis, who had starring roles at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June [last year], are being raised by their parents with an awareness of their positions and the roles they will one day carry out in support of the monarchy,” royal author and expert Katie Nicholl wrote in her book The New Royals.

“George knows that, like his papa, he will one day be king, while Charlotte will likely juggle the role of being the spare with a career. Louis could well be a private citizen undertaking occasional royal duties, like William and Harry’s cousins Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, as well as princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.”

But, it turns out that King Charles, Louis’ grandfather, has other plans for the young royal.

Mere days after Lilibet and Archie’s titles were officially added to the Buckingham Palace website, King Charles announced another significant change within the Royal Family.

Mark Cuthbert/UK Press via Getty Images

His youngest brother, Prince Edward, also titled the Earl of Wessex, was honored with a new title: the Duke of Edinburgh.

The statement issued by the Palace read, “His Majesty the King has been pleased to confer the Dukedom of Edinburgh upon the Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Forfar, on the occasion of His Royal Highness’s 59th birthday. The title will be held by Prince Edward for His Royal Highness’s lifetime.

“The Dukedom was last created for Prince Philip in 1947, upon his marriage to Princess Elizabeth, who held the title of Duchess of Edinburgh before acceding to the throne in 1952. The new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are proud to continue Prince Philip’s legacy of promoting opportunities for young people of all backgrounds to reach their full potential.”

Prince Edward would hold the title until the rest of his life. The wish that he gets the title was of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and King Charles simply granted it following their passing.

As reported by the Mirror, the Duke of Edinburgh title isn’t inherited, which means when Edward dies, it will revert to the crown. Once that’s done, one of Kate and William’s children would likely inherit it, and as per the media, that would be Prince Louis.

Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images

Before Edward was handed the title on his 59th birthday, King Charles announced his determination to slim down the monarchy and downsize the number of royal titles.

“Charles’s charitable portfolio is being streamlined for when he is king, and this same forensic approach is being applied to how much and what the Royal Family does in his reign,” royal expert and author Richard Kay wrote for the Daily Mail. “As it will certainly downsize, it means fewer royals carrying out engagements.”

“So it is against a background of a slimmed down monarchy that the prince has been developing ideas about working royals, their titles, and how they fit in with his vision of a modern Britain.”

Kay continued: “Someone close to Charles told me that rather than more royal titles, the prince prefers fewer… The Edinburgh title, created by King George I for his grandson, Frederick, has been revived twice (by Queen Victoria for her second son Alfred and by George VI for Prince Philip), and Charles may even wish it go to his own grandson, Prince Louis.”

Walmart alters course: Drops self-checkout expansion amidst customer concerns

The advance of technology helps facilitate our lives a great deal, but do we pay a high price when it comes to relying on the machines way more than we should?

In order to speed up the process of running errands and shopping for groceries, Walmart introduced self-checkouts. What they didn’t expect, however, is to face backlash because of this decision that many of the customers consider controversial.

The self-service machines aren’t something new. In fact, they were first introduced in the 1980s to lower labor expenses.

But this service faced plenty of obstacles and customers complain to the added responsibilities.

Shutterstock

For example, certain items may have multiple barcodes, whereas the produce, including the meat, fruit, and vegetable, typically needs to be weighed and manually entered into the system using a code, which might be time consuming for the ordinary shoppers. Other times shoppers won’t hear the “beep” confirming an item has been scanned properly.

Another issue is the increase of theft. Walmart announced that thefts at its stores has reached an all-time high.

The machines not only fall short at their purpose of making shopping easier at times, but they also make it harder for the employees they were meant to help.

Christopher Andrews, a sociologist and author of The Overworked Consumer: Self-Checkouts, Supermarkets, and the Do-It-Yourself Economy, says the system “doesn’t work well for anyone.”

He continued: “Everyone feels like they have to have it. Companies are thinking: ‘If we can just get more people on this, maybe we can start reducing some overheads.’”

Pexel

What’s most, most of the customers have reported that they miss the human interaction while shopping.

Randy Parraz from Making Change at Walmart perfectly summed up customer sentiments by saying, “You can’t convince customers to do the job of a cashier just because you don’t want to pay for the work.”

Walmart decided to listen to what their customers had to say and instead of further expanding automation, the retail giant will hire additional cashiers to provide their customers with a pleasant shopping experience and service.

What Walmart and the rest of the retailers, among which Costco and Wegmans, learned is that efficiency is important but maintaining a balance with positive experiences remains crucial.

Man has been saving up pennies for 45 years – Bank tellers are at a loss for words when he arrives to cash in

“Penny saved is a penny earned” is a saying that people who are good at managing their finances believe to be true.

Otha Anders, a former teacher from Louisiana, had been collecting pennies for a very long time. It all started as a goal of collecting pennies he would find on the street, and it soon turned into a passion he couldn’t say no to. Over the course of 45 years, this man had managed to fill in 15 5-gallon jugs of change before he finally decided to cash the pennies in 2015 when his homeowner’s insurance stopped covering the collection.

Speaking of his achievement which left the clerks at the bank totally stunned, Anders told ABC News: “If I would see a penny when I’m gassing up, on the ground, or in a store, it would be a reminder to stop right there and say a prayer. I never failed to do that. That’s why they had so much value to me.

“I would never spend a penny,” he told USA Today. “I would break a dollar before giving up a penny.

“I wanted to fill five five-gallon water jugs. That was the goal, but I couldn’t stop. … If I hadn’t turned them in yesterday, I was not going to stop,” he said.

Everyone who knows Anders knew of his passion and his collection. Even the kids at the school where he worked. He would sometimes buy pennies from them, but he would never take, not even a single one, without paying for it.

“I never allowed anyone, not even my wife nor children, to give me pennies without being compensated,” he told USA Today. “I wanted the inner satisfaction that God and I acquired this collection.”

When he arrived at the Ruston Origin Bank in Ruston, Louisiana, the staff welcomed him in and were more than happy to assist him. For his stunning collection of pennies, Anders got $5,136.14.
