Beloved country singer found dead at his home in Texas

Richard “Kinky” Friedman, the provocative and flamboyant Texas satirist, singer, humorist, columnist, and all-around provocateur, has died at the age of 79.

Known for his boundary-pushing music with his band The Texas Jewboys, his deep love for animals, and his spirited campaign for governor in 2006, Kinky Friedman left an indelible mark on Texas culture and politics.

“Kinky Friedman stepped on a rainbow at his beloved Echo Hill surrounded by family & friends,” a post on his social media read. “Kinkster endured tremendous pain & unthinkable loss in recent years but he never lost his fighting spirit and quick wit. Kinky will live on as his books are read and his songs are sung.”

The self-proclaimed “governor of the heart of Texas,” renowned for his eccentric and unique take on country and Western music, released a series of albums starting with the influential Sold American in 1973. He toured with Bob Dylan on the Rolling Thunder Revue and was notable as the “first full-blooded Jew” to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.

Originally hailing from Chicago, Friedman moved to Texas with his family during his childhood and grew up in a ranching community near Kerrville.

During his college years, he immersed himself in the folk music scene, drawing inspiration from country, blues, and Jewish cultural themes to form the band Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys in the early 1970s. The band gained fame for its satirical and often provocative humor, with tracks like They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore and Asshole from El Paso known for their biting satire and social commentary.

Throughout his music career, he released a total of 18 albums, with his most recent one, Circus of Life, released in 2018.

Besides being a famous musician, Friedman also pursued a writing career. Seeing himself as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, he offered his readers journeys to New York City fictionalizing versions of himself and incorporating lyrics from his songs into his stories.

From 2001 to 2005, he wrote a regular column for Texas Monthly, which he paused during his 2006 gubernatorial run. His column was later reinstated on a bi-monthly basis, reflecting his enduring passion for storytelling and humor.

Friedman’s inspirational work in the world of music and literature will continue to live on through his songs and books. He truly was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

As a child, she was traded for money to an older man; now she’s a famous actress

Born Demi Gene Guynes on November 11, 1962, actress Demi Moore, who changed her surname after marrying her first husband, Freddy Moore, at the age of 18, has had a tough upbringing that profoundly affected her life and helped shape her identity.

Moore’s father left before she was born and she was raised by her mother, Virginia King, and her step-father, Dan Guynes.

Her childhood was traumatic because her mother battled substance abuse most her life. In fact, their relationship was strained and rocky from the start. Her mother attempted suicide multiple times, and Moore, although a young child, took the role of a caregiver at times and was there to save her mother. One time, she was forced to dig the pills her mom had swallowed out of her mouth.

In her book Inside Out, the Ghost star opened up about her dark past, writing that after her parents’ split, her mom would often take her to bars for men to notice her. Heartbreakingly, one of those nights ended in rape.

Moore was just 15 when she was sexually assaulted by a man whom her mother knew. Speaking to Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, the actress revealed that after the assault, he asked her how it felt like “to be wh***d by your mother for $500.”

Asked if she believed the man’s words were true, Moore told Sawyer, “I think, in my deep heart no. I don’t think it was a straightforward transaction.

“But she still – she did give him the access and put me in harm’s way.”

Despite the struggles and the challenges she had faced because of her mother, Moore tried to reconcile with her multiple times throughout her life. Eventually, Virginia King passed away in 1998 due to cancer.

Moore was able to distance herself from her mother during her teenage years and to protect herself from her destructive behavior.

Eventually, she made a name for herself and became an A-list actress with a number of famous movies under her belt.

In 1987, she married actor Bruce Willis with whom she has three daughters. Their union lasted for 13 years. However, the divorce affected her relationship with Willis and her daughters, and with that, her physical and mental health.

“I guess the fundamental question that came forward for me was, ‘How did I get here?'” Moore told Sawyer. “I mean, from where I started to what I’ve experienced, where I’ve been, like, how did I get here?”

Just like Moore’s relationship with her own mother, her connection with one of her daughters, Talullah Willis, has also been a troubled one at some point. This was influenced by various factors, and Moore’s high-profile marriage to actor Ashton Kutcher, who was 15 years her junior, added another layer of complexity to their relationship.

Though they have faced difficulties, they have strived to improve their relationship and have shared moments of reconciliation.

Both have expressed a commitment to backing each other and have openly admitted their efforts to foster a more profound connection.

Dolly Parton kept her health condition under wraps, but it is now known

Dolly Parton knew music was her calling from early age. She first started performing at the age of 10, and just three years later she debuted on the Grand Ole Opry making $20 a week.

Most of the family members on her mom’s side were very musical and played instruments, so music was a fundamental part of her life from the moment she was born. Her love for music grew even deeper when her uncle Lewis gave her his cherished little Martin guitar.

Soon after graduating high school, Parton moved to Nashville and quickly rose to fame. Throughout her career, she has written over 3,000 songs, sold more than 100 million albums, topped the country charts 25 times, and won eight Grammy Awards.

She and her husband of many years, Carl Dean, never had children, and according to Parton it was a decision they made together, although they sometimes wonder what their children would have looked like if they had any.

Speaking on the topic, she shared with Today the reason behind that decision.

“I’ve made sacrifices, but I think, like I said, I believe what I know I’m supposed to do,” she said. “I’ve made the sacrifice of time… and not having time to spend with family, and you give up family and friends, vacation, and work without end, 24/7, 365, but you got to make the sacrifice.”

@dollyparton/Instagram

However, this decision wasn’t entirely hers. Actually, she experienced heath struggles.

In 1985, Parton was diagnosed with endometriosis, which led to the country singer’s partial hysterectomy.

In her book Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton, she wrote, “I wasn’t conscious of nutrition, I wasn’t taking care of myself…I was working hard, and underneath I was a pile of personal and emotional problems. All at once, I fell apart. It was stomach problems and female problems—all over health problems, actually.”

@dollyparton/Instagram

The condition affected her life and led her to severe depression. Sadly, the realization that she couldn’t conceive children naturally was a heavy burden for her. “Suddenly, I was a middle-aged woman. I went through a dark time until I made myself snap out of it,” she said.

Although Dolly Parton doesn’t have children of her own, she is ensuring that millions of kids receive high-quality books through her program.

Being loving and caring as she is, Parton is adored by millions.

She’s an advocate for women’s empowerment, animal welfare, arts and culture, and a lot more.

As she inspires countless others with her music and determination, Dolly Parton’s legacy will be cherished for generations to come.

‘God Is an Amazing God,’ says pastor whose daughter miraculously survived a devastating car accident

Even in the face of adversity, the faith in God remains unwavering. Living with the thought that there is something greater than life that provides comfort, strength, and endurance when we need it the most is a reassurance that we are not alone, that God is there to guide us through the challenges and the obstacles we face every day.

Kevin Mullins, a former Baptist pastor, a former teacher at a Christian school, and a former church planter with the North American Mission Board posted a video of his daughter being involved in a car crash, proclaiming “My God is an amazing God!”

The video, which has since gone viral, shows his daughter’s car being pierced by a guardrail, yet she has been left with minor scratches only.

Followers and believers have been re-sharing the video on TikTok with the hashtag #Godisgood.

“My daughter called me this morning. And she was just saying over and over again, ‘Dad, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Dad, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” the pastor could be heard saying in the video. “As bad as this looks, as bad as this is, I want you to see something. You’ve gotta see this…This is my daughter. She was in this car. My God is an amazing God.”

“I serve an amazing God. If you don’t believe in him this morning, you can look at this.” Shifting his focus back to the wreck, he went on to say, “That guardrail is on the driver’s side. She crawled out the back window. And she was in the road when I got here.

“My God is amazing. He is amazing. If you don’t know him, contact me. Ask me. I will tell you about an awesome God that not only saved my daughter from this wreck but will save you from your sins and eternity in hell. That’s why he came to this earth. To die for you.”

Please worship him this Sunday morning,” the pastor told his followers. “Please. Worship him. If you are a lukewarm Christian, remember how big a God you serve and get on fire for him.”

In addition to the video of the car wreck, he also posted a video of his daughter singing at the church some weeks ago before he started his service.

Facebook

His daughter, Kenzie, also spoke of the accident, writing, “i want everyone to know i’m good [just] a few bruises and scratches.

“I want to thank everyone that has prayed for me it means a lot to me!! GOD IS AMAZING that’s all i can say there’s no other reason i got out of this [wreck] without him!”

People were quick to send their well wishes, share similar stories, and speak of their faith in God.

“She definitely had a guardian angel looking over her shoulder,” someone wrote. Another person commented, “That is ONLY GOD! He had her in His righteous right hand!!”

We are glad Kenzie was left unharmed.

Toddler dies from choking on watermelon at daycare – shocking details of the incident emerge

16-month-old Jamal Allen Bryant, Jr. lost his life in a tragic incident after chocking on a piece of watermelon while at daycare. The toddler was attending Brunswick’s The Kids Nest Learning Center that has since been temporarily closed.

According to the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, or DECAL, the staff waited nearly two minutes after alerting emergency services.

The grieving family claims that their son, along with the rest of the children who attended the same facility, has been neglected.

Reports are that at the time of the accident, the staff gave the children the food but didn’t stay with them while they ate.

“JB tragically lost his life when The Kids Nest Learning Center failed to have staff trained in CPR, gave the 18 month a large piece of watermelon, didn’t require kids to be seated while eating and the staff weren’t seated within arms reach of the children as mandated by Georgia’s Dept of Early Childhood and Learning (DECAL),” the GoFundMe page started by the toddler’s family stated.

The tragedy took place on May 21, and the owner of the daycare, Charles Grant, testified at court saying that only one of the two staff members who were supposed to take care of the children was certified in CPR. He acknowledged that the staff did not adhere to the center’s or state’s regulations, as they were not supervising the children while they were eating.

The mother of Jamal said the daycare failed her baby boy as surveillance cameras showed that instead of administering CPR as required, the staff repeatedly patted the child on the back.

“We depend on you all to take care of our children to the best of your ability and if that was one of the rules, I feel like obviously you should have followed them,” she said. “I trusted you all to do your job. And now I blame myself and I wish I never dropped him off that day. And I don’t wanna hear anything from them because they should’ve called. Nothing’s gonna fix this, other than them being done.”

Considering the serious breaches of rules that “seriously affected the health and safety of children and demonstrated the intentional and reckless disregard for the physical and mental health and safety of children,” DECAL has initiated steps to permanently shut down the daycare.

The owner appealed the decision, but later reconsidered and withdrew his appeal.

“Notice has been sent to the Office of State Administrative Hearings so that the case can be dismissed and court canceled. Since there is no longer an appeal, the center has officially been closed in our system due to the revocation of the license,” the statement read.

We are so very sorry for this devastating loss. Our thoughts and prayers go to the grieving family.

My mother-in-law gave me plastic earrings while my sister-in-law got a diamond necklace

The relationship between family members can get tricky at times, especially if some of them feel they are not treated as equal.

A woman shares a story of how her mother-in-law gave her and her sister-in-law jewelry as presents with the difference that the SIL got a diamond necklace and she received a pair of plastic earrings. What the woman didn’t know, however, was that there was more to the present than she believed.

This is her story.

My mother-in-law gifted me plastic earrings, while my sister-in-law received a diamond necklace, creating a palpable gift disparity. My husband’s reaction was one of outrage, but a surprising twist awaited. The seemingly tacky earrings held a secret key, part of a longstanding family tradition.

Pexel

In my mother-in-law’s dusty basement room, the key from the earrings unlocked a small chest, revealing an old diary and vintage gold jewelry belonging to my husband’s great-grandmother. The diary chronicled her immigrant journey, and the jewelry was a cherished family heirloom, passed down through generations.

This revelation reshaped my understanding. The plastic earrings weren’t a thoughtless gift but a part of a unique tradition embedded in family history. The real gift was the responsibility of safeguarding the family legacy.

A diamond necklace given to my sister-in-law was a clever distraction, concealing the true tradition until the opportune moment. Surprisingly, she was gracious, and together we laughed at the unusual turn of events.

This incident strengthened my bond with my husband’s family, offering a newfound appreciation for my mother-in-law as a guardian of a rich family heritage. It taught me the value of humility, respect for the past, and the distinctive ways traditions bring families together.

My late mom left $5 million inheritance to my greedy brother and aunts & I only got an envelope with an address

It is not rare that families fracture over a loved one’s assets. It sometimes goes to the extent that those set to inherit may not see eye to eye.

A woman shared a story of her mother and the inheritance she left after her passing.

The woman started her story saying how she was the one who took care of her mother who battled cancer. “Mom was always my best friend, so naturally, I was going to be there every step of the way while she battled this illness,” the woman wrote.

However, as she was always there for her mother, her greedy brother and her aunts were only around when they needed something, usually when they wanted their bills paid.

“one aunt (while my mom was on a steady decline), she wanted mom’s “contacts” to sort out a new house for her. Because my mom owned a real estate agency. The audacity was unbelievable,” the woman wrote.

Sadly, her mom passed away.

The woman then recalled the day her mom’s will was to be read. All of her family, including her brother and her aunts, as well as her late mom’s lawyer were sit in the room that resembled a scene from a Hallmark movie.

“I was sipping a cup of weak tea from one of the chipped teacups when the lawyer dropped the bomb. Mom’s savings, about all $5 million of it, was to be split between my brother and my aunts. I choked back the tea, thinking what was happening in the name of heaven. Because I got nothing. Zip. Nada.

At that moment, tears started rolling down her face and mascara drops stained her skirt while her brother and her aunts had a hard time hiding the smirk on their faces.

“‘How on earth could my mom have done this to me?‘ I thought, wiping my nose with the face of my hand. And then, as a classic overthinker, I began to wonder whether I cared enough for her during those final months,” the poor woman kept wondering.

Next, she could see the lawyer approaching her and handing her an envelope.

When she opened it, the woman saw an address written on a piece of paper. She had no idea what was going on.

At first, she thought it could be a location to a storage her mom wanted her to clear out. The lawyer, for one, stayed tight-lipped. He only reminded the the woman that she was the person her mom loved the most.

When she got to the address, the woman realized that her mom left her a gem of a home. The house in front of her was so beautiful it resembled one from a fairytale. Even the woman’s favorite flowers were planted in the yard.

“It turns out my mom knew all about how my brother and aunts were the biggest money drains. But she wanted me to have a place to build a future and a family. To make new memories in a place that clearly has her spirit,” the woman continued her story.

Another letter on the kitchen table in this new home explained that the mom left the money to her son and her sister fully aware they would waste it the moment they put their hands on it, but she wanted to teach them the value of family, which would likely come as a lesson once they spent all the money they inherited.

“But now, I’m standing in my new kitchen, drinking coffee from the coffee machine I always wanted, and I realize that mom’s love was never in the money — no. It was in this home, and I knew that this gift would be more valuable to me than anything else.

“Hey, Mom? You still know the best.”

Iconic talk show host, a groundbreaker in the field, passes away at 88 – ‘His show broke RECORDS’

Phil Donahue, the “king of daytime talk” in the US, has died aged 88 in his Manhattan home on August 18.

In a statement to Today, his family confirmed the news, stating that the talk show host died following a long illness. During his final hours, he was surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife of 44 years, actress Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, Michael, Daniel, Kevin, and Mary Rose, his grandchildren, and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie.

The exact caused of death hasn’t been revealed.

Donahue hosted The Phil Donahue Show, later renamed Donahue, for nearly three decades, interviewing celebrities, politicians, and many of the iconic figures of his time, Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, and Dolly Parton among the rest.

Throughout his career, he hosted more than 6,000 episodes and often took on controversial social issues, inviting the audience to take part in the discussions and setting a new format for daytime talk shows.

Donahue was also known as a prominent feminist and supporter of women’s rights since the late 1960s.

He was born in Cleveland in 1935 and started his media career in the late 1950s, initially working both in talk radio and television. He launched his namesake talk show in 1967. The show moved from Ohio to Chicago in 1974, rebranding as simply Donahue.

His wife took to Instagram to thank her followers “for the beautiful messages of love and support that have been coming in all day, and for the wonderful and generous way that you’ve let Phil and me share our life adventure with you over the years.”

She wrote she would be stepping away from her page for a while in order to take some time and to take care of herself after losing her dear husband.

Celebrities, among which Oprah Winfrey, paid their tributes to the man who helped pave the way for other talk-show hosts.

“There wouldn’t have been an Oprah Show without Phil Donahue being the first to prove that daytime talk and women watching should be taken seriously,” Winfrey wrote alongside a black and white photo of her and the late host. “He was a pioneer. I’m glad I got to thank him for it. Rest in peace Phil.”
