Sobbing Loudoun County teacher quits in protest over CRT lessons during school board meeting

Loudoun County, Virginia, teacher Laura Morris resigned from the position of a teacher which she held for a majority of her career while she gave an emotional speech against the prevalence of critical race theory and other political objectives in public schools during a board meeting.

Morris, a fifth grade teacher at Lucketts Elementary School, told the board, “I’m a Christian woman, and they’ve said they don’t want us here. I’ve found employment elsewhere.”

Her speech and her resignation were a form of a protest against the policies of the school board.

Among the rest, she accused the school board of forcing her ‘to push highly-politicized agendas on our most vulnerable constituents – the children’ and explained that teachers were highly encouraged to report any colleagues who were speaking against the teaching programs they were forced to follow.

Morris added that she felt like she could no longer be a part of an organization that convinced her ‘white, Christian, able-bodied females’ needed to be reined in.

“This summer I have struggled with the idea of returning to school, knowing that I’ll be working yet again with a school division that, despite its shiny tech and flashy salary, promotes political ideologies that do not square with who I am as a believer in Christ,” Morris said.

“I am very sad about some things that I am giving up and leaving behind, but regret is not the word … I don’t regret what I did,” she told Fox News after her speech went viral. “I don’t regret anything I said, and I don’t regret anything I did — because I … was happy to do this.”

Loudoun County has drawn national attention as parents and administrators spar over controversial teaching material and a recent transgender policy, which was approved by the board.

Morris’ speech was triggered by all this and by her disapproval of the excessive focus on “equity trainings” and the imposition of political views on the pupils.

Critical race theory and educational equity remain hotly debated topics across the country. The schools need to carefully consider how to handle these issues.
