Before Matt, who was a devoted father of twin girls, my dating life was a complete mess. But once this man and his daughters became part of my world everything changed.
Matt’s wife passed away when the twins were one year old, and he had been an incredible father to them ever since, making sure they don’t miss out on anything.
His close bond with his girls spoke volumes of the man he was; committed and devoted.
One day, he and the girls stopped by my place with hand-made cards. “Dorothy, thank you for being part of our family,” they said in a single voice.
Before them, I had no idea how to be around kids, but they brought out the mother in me.
It didn’t take long before Matt proposed, and it made me the happiest woman alive.
We decided to celebrate our engagement with a nice vacation. The girls loved the idea so we started packing right away.
The trip felt like the perfect getaway for just the four of us.
We had so much fun, I felt like I never wanted it to end.
But then, on the fourth day, Matt said he wasn’t feeling well and asked me to take the girls to the pool myself. I said it was fine because I truly enjoyed being around them—it was a perfect opportunity for some girls’ time.
However, when we returned to the room some hours later, Matt wasn’t there, nor was his suitcase. Instead, there was a note on the table that read, “I have to leave. You’ll understand soon.”
My heart dropped because I had no idea what was going on. The girls kept asking about their dad and I lied to them that he had some business to do and had to return back home.
As Matt wasn’t answering his phone, I put the girls to sleep and the three of us checked out of the hotel the following morning.
On the way home, I couldn’t stop but wonder what could possibly made Matt disappear like that. I hoped there was a logical explanation behind his act.
The moment we opened the house’s door, the girls and I noticed a bundle wrapped in a blanket. It was moving.
“What could that be?” I asked my self, but then I heard the girls screaming, “It’s a puppy, it’s a puppy.”
Indeed, it was a tiny St. Bernard who poked its head out and started wagging its tail.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I used to have a dog just like that that meant the world to me. When I got closer, I noticed a note next to the dog’s blanket.

“Dorothy, I know you might be mad at me for leaving you like that, but I got a call about a St. Bernard just like the one you used to tell me about and I had to act quick and make it ours.
“This is a thank you for everything you are doing for my daughters and for being the perfect mother to them.
“Love, Matt.”
At that moment, I felt relieved. I was still very mad at Matt for scaring me to death when he vanished from the hotel, but now I knew he did it for a beautiful reason.
As the girls and I played with the puppy, Matt appeared at the door.
“Daddy, daddy, there is a puppy here. Can we keep it?” the girls asked in unison.
I looked at them and said, “Of course, that little guy is here to stay.”
Matt apologized again, and his surprise was just too sweet for me to stay mad at him.
