Couple Out Walking Their Dog Make An Unbelievable Discovery

Well besides being good for you, walking your dog more often could well make the top of your list after you read this…

A couple from California was doing just that, walking the dog when they found treasure, there was no ‘X’ that marked the spot, but what they found was of great historical significance…

So much was the value of what they found its almost hard to believe it was just in the ground, and they found it!

The trail they were walking on they were very familiar with and it was a regular walk for them.

The couple, from the Gold Country, in the northern parts of California, walked the trail they knew so well, on their own property, with their four-pawed pal. It was February of 2013 and another beautiful day…

After many walks before this, seemingly just the same, this time was a little different, they saw a tin can, a coffee can, it was partly buried, just poking out a little from the ground near a tree.

They were curious as many would be and stopped to look at it.

The, to remain anonymous guy said:

“I saw an old can sticking out of the ground on a trail that we had walked almost every day for many, many years”

His wife said:

“I was looking down in the right spot and saw the side of the can. I bent over to scrape some moss off and noticed that it had both ends on it”

They really couldn’t believe at all what was contained in that tin can!

The can was really quite heavy, unusually so, and on the way home they prised the lid open a little and saw a little glint of something that looked like gold metal, their excitement suddenly grew!

Thier minds raced at to what was in the can.

The Guy said:

“I found a can of gold coins and I thought there was a zero percent chance of Mary believing me! …When I told her, the look of bewilderment — her mouth was so wide open flies could have flown in and out several times.”

Thet returned to the tree and dug for more treasure and found more cans there with even more gold coins!

The coins were dated to around the mid-1800s and with their metal detector, they bought they found a total of eight cans!!

His wife said:

“I would never have thought we would have found something like this …However, in a weird way I feel like I have been preparing my whole life for it.”

They knew just what to do, time to call an expert!

The two of them both knew they had stumbled onto something incredible and it was most certainly going to be worth something, for sure!

They wanted to know how much they were worth so it was prudent to take them to a coin expert, they chose a rare coin expert, Kagin’s Inc. of Tiburon, California.

President of Kagin’s, Dr. Don Kagin said:

“Nearly all of the 1,427 coins, dating from 1847 to 1894, are in uncirculated, mint condition”

The face value of the coins was around $27,000 but they needed further inspection to see their real value.

How rare were the coins? …That was the crunch question that would determine their true value.

Kagin said:

“Since 1981, people have been coming to us with one or two coins they find worth a few thousand dollars, but this is the first time we get someone with a whole cache of buried coins … It is a million to one chance, even harder than winning the lottery …Jackpot!”

The coins were not one in a million, they really were a whole $10 million. The Lady Liberty coins were officially appraised by experts who said that some of the coins are so rare they are worth $1 million each!

The mystery remains why the coins were buried under a tree in cans, but the likely story could be that the previous owner stashed them there over 150 years ago, maybe to keep his investment secure for later in life!

Interestingly the cans had been buried over a period of time, not all at once…

Next time you happen to take a walk or walk your dog, maybe you will be looking a little harder at what is around you as you walk.
