Bystander spots Sergeant being savagely beaten, so she takes out her gun and ends the attack

Unlike what many people think, the truth is that police officers don’t have it easy. Their job is stressful and demanding as they make sure communities stay safe and sound.

We have witnessed many times before how some of these people are true angels in disguise who have hearts of gold under their fierce looks and muscular bodies. One would say that it is part of their job to protect and serve people, but many times, they go the extra mile.

Sergeant Randy Harkness from Dawson County, Georgia, spotted a homeless man begging for money at the corner of the street. He felt sorry and decided to give the man a ride to the nearest gas station in order to give him some money.

However, once the homeless man entered the police vehicle, he started attacking Harkness. He started hitting him and scratching his face. As Harkness didn’t expect his good deed to be answered back by such behavior, he was left in complete shock. The man injured the sergeant’s face and wasn’t about to stop being extremely violent.

Luckily, a bystander noticed the attack and decided to act. She was legally carrying a firearm and rushed towards the sergeant. She then fired a shot and that’s when the homeless man started running. The woman then fired another shot which hit the suspect.

Sgt. Harkness was glad that a member of his community stepped in for him and wasn’t afraid to risk her life in order to help him.

The Dawson County Sheriff hailed the woman a hero.

“I TRULY BELIEVE THAT SHE’S A HERO,” SHERIFF JEFF JOHNSON TOLD FOX 5 ATLANTA. “I BELIEVE THAT SHE POTENTIALLY SAVED THIS OFFICER’S LIFE. WE DON’T KNOW HOW FAR THE SUSPECT WOULD HAVE WENT WITH THE ASSAULT.”

As she acted in order to help an officer in need, the woman is unlikely to be charged with using firearm, but the incident is still under investigation.

After she decided to act, other bystanders joined her in in protecting Sgt. Harkness.
