Sad news about the beloved singer Cyndi Lauper

Bold, unique, and a true personification of the of 1980s pop music, singer Cyndi Lauper enchanted millions with her songs and free-spirited sense of fashion.

She was able to create a hybrid of pop and rock and showed the world that “women” can “have fun.”

Her debut album was titled She’s So Unusual and it perfectly depicted her style and the way many saw her at the time. Her eccentricity marked her both as a performer and a person and her creativity was unmatched. Yet, Lauper struggled with health issues that affected her career, and sadly, she’s still struggling with the autoimmune disease she was diagnosed with in 2010.

Some of Lauper’s biggest hits, which are quite popular even today, are Time After Time, True Colors, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, among the rest.

Back in 1985, Lauper was presented with a Grammy award for Best New Artist.

As her career progressed and she became a renowned artist loved by millions, Lauper received numerous awards including Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, and an MTV VMA award.

When she was diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp.

As per the Mayo Clinic, it “is a common, long-term (chronic) disease with no cure. It can be painful, interfere with sleep and make it hard to concentrate.” Sadly, Lauper is still experiencing all the symptoms.

She was even forced to stop singing for a period of time because of the pain she experienced. In an interview with People, she said in 2015 that she “felt like the elephant man” because her health had declined despite trying all the possible treatments she has stumbled upon.

Her condition has affected her social life as well, although she always attempts to “bring a lot of light” to herself.

What helps, according to her, is that she’s a family person.

Together with The National Psoriasis Foundation and Novartis, Lauper launched the website MoretoPsoriasis.com which aims to raise awareness of skin issues.

“I’m not talking about it because I feel sorry for myself,” Lauper explained. “I’m talking about it because no one talks about it … and a lot of times you feel alone. I know I felt alone.”

We truly hope that this incredible artists, together with the millions of people who suffer from psoriasis, would be able to keep her condition under control.
