A horrific accident left two families mourning the loss of their children, something no parent should ever experience.

Two high-school students, Kalen Hart and Lendon Byram, died in a car crash on their way to prom. The accident took place on Saturday, May 1, at around 5:15 p.m. local time in Arcadia, roughly 35 miles north of Indianapolis, as reported by Fox.

Hart was a senior at Hamilton Heights High School, while her prom date and boyfriend Byram attended Cathedral High School.

The news of their tragic passing shook the country and everyone who knew them and their families.

It has been reported that Byram was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, while Hart was in the passenger seat. Two other high-school graduates were at the back of the car, and luckily, they didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own … due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident yesterday,” the Hamilton Heights School Corporation wrote on Sunday. “This is an unimaginable loss to these families and our school community.”

Hart’s heartbroken mother, Jody Bartrom Conaway, wrote: “My 18-year-old daughter, along with her boyfriend, were killed in an automobile accident on her way to prom. No parent should ever have to bury their child.” She has also shared a fundraiser on Facebook.

Our hearts go out to the grieving families. Rest in peace, Kalen Hart and Lendon Byram, you will never be forgotten.
