What Prince Andrew will be known as after giving up his royal titles due to links to Jeffrey Epstein

Prince Andrew, King Charles’ brother, has once again drawn public attention amid renewed scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most outspoken accusers. Giuffre, who took her own life in April 2025 at 41, had long alleged that Andrew sexually abused her when she was 17, claims he has consistently denied.

In her posthumous memoir, “Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice,” Giuffre recounts her alleged 2001 encounter with King Charles’ younger brother, who she says had “long been known as the playboy of the royal family,” according to The Guardian.

“He was friendly enough, but still entitled – as if he believed having sex with me was his birthright,” she penned, claiming that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, pressured her into “servicing the man the tabloids called ‘Randy Andy.”

Amid the renewed accusations, Prince Andrew released a statement, “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life. With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

He gave up the title Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh, as well as his honors as Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

While the dukedom cannot be removed without an Act of Parliament, he has pledged not to use it.

He, however, will continue to hold the title of Prince as he’s the son of Queen Elizabeth II. Removing it would require extraordinary constitutional measures.

Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, will no longer use her title and will go by Sarah Ferguson. The titles of their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will not be affected.

Meanwhile, Virginia Giuffre’s family renewed calls for Andrew to face accountability.

“We, the family of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, believe that Prince Andrew’s decision to give up his titles is vindication for our sister and survivors everywhere,” they said.

They added, “Further, we believe it is appropriate for King Charles to remove the title of Prince.”

Andrew has consistently denied the allegations and previously settled a US civil case for a reported £12 million ($16 million) without admitting guilt. The controversy resurfaced after new evidence showed he maintained contact with Epstein and Maxwell, including multiple private jet trips and emails years after claiming the friendship had ended.
