Washington’s new lead prosecutor Jeanine Pirro is making headlines for all the right reasons. Two months into her new role, Pirro started restoring order in D.C. by making major arrests targeting gangs, offenders, and drug traffickers.
On Tuesday, Pirro announced that Jamiek “Onion” Bassil, 32, and Charles “Cheese” Manson, 34, were sentenced to over 130 months each in prison. The two have been charged with drug trafficking conspiracy that distributed fentanyl, crack cocaine and other drugs in Northeast D.C. They also faced charges related to the 2024 shooting in Northeast D.C.

According to Pirro, Bassil and Manson were members of the “21st and Vietnam” gang that ran a street-level drug business on Maryland Avenue NE. They sold illegal substances all over Washington D.C.
Manson was also involved in the shooting in Northeast D.C. on March 7, 2024. At the time of the incident, he wore a ski mask and opened fire on a passerby walking their dog. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
Police arrested him eight days later and found a loaded Glock 17, over 50 grams of fentanyl-type drugs, cocaine, and drug tools at his home.
Bassil admitted selling 80 grams of fentanyl to undercover agents.
15 people were arrested yesterday during a large-scale takedown operation involving MPD, DEA, FBI, and USAO after a months-long investigation into a violent crew suspected of distributing narcotics throughout DC from the Carver Langston neighborhood.https://t.co/1MmpLPky1R

“This is just the beginning,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “Criminal networks operating in the District should expect intense scrutiny and swift prosecution under Jeanine Pirro’s leadership.”
Another major case by Pirro and her team is the conviction of Taylor Taranto, 39. He livestreamed violent threats and admitted to crafting a “detonator” as he drove a weapon-filled van toward the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Maryland.
“On June 28, 2023, Taranto streamed a live video of himself while driving his van near National Harbor, Maryland. He told the crowd that he had been ‘working on a detonator’ and that he was going to drive a car bomb into the National Institute of Standards and Technology.”
He was found guilty on all charges.
