Trump administration targeting masturbation through a new U.S. law

State senator Angela Paxton, the wife of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has introduced a bill that would make it difficult for people to buy s*x toys, which many saw as Trump and his administration waging a ‘war’ on masturbation.

The bill tends to punish online retailers that sell an ‘obscene device’ to people without age verification.

Retailers violating the regulations could face a $4,000 fine and a year of prison time.

A separate bill introduced by Trump’s administration asks from major retailers such as Walmart, Costco, and CVS to stop reselling s*x toys, making them available exclusively at “s*xually oriented businesses” such as s*x shops and strip clubs.

As expected, the bills triggered backlash with many accusing Trump’s administration of interfering with people’s private lives.

A 1973 Texas law banned the sale of s*x toys anywhere on the territory of Texas. In 2003, the law was amended to make it a criminal offense to own more than six of these devices. However, five years later, the update was declared unconstitutional.

Speaking to Daily Observer, Dr. Shamyra Howard, a licensed clinical social worker and sex educator, said, “Requiring ID to purchase a s*x toy sends the message that pleasure is something to be policed and surveilled.

“It pathologizes something that is completely normal and turns a private, healthy act into something shameful.

“This kind of legislation doesn’t protect people; it embarrasses them. It creates unnecessary barriers and reinforces harmful stigmas that many of us have spent years trying to dismantle.”

She also highlighted the benefits of using these toys and the importance of making it easy to purchase them.

“What’s often overlooked is that s*x toys are not just about pleasure. They’re also part of comprehensive sexual wellness.

“Men use them too, both for pleasure and to manage erectile issues, neuropathy from diabetes and poor blood flow related to high blood pressure.

“There are devices designed to support pain management, pelvic floor health, s*x toys even help people manage mental health issues through stress relief and help to re-establish intimacy after medical procedures or trauma.”

It seems like the “war” on masturbation by Trump and his administration surprised and angered many.
