Defrocked priest accused of abuse makes shocking Pope claim

Chicago-born Robert Prevost became the 267th person to become Pope. He is the first Augustinian pope and the second Roman Pontiff — after Pope Francis — from the Americas. 

He will be known as Pope Leo XIV.

Weeks into his reign, Pope Leo is facing accusations by a defrocked priest accused of s**ual abuse of children.

The former priest, James M. Ray, claimed that it was Pope Leo himself — who at that time served as the head of the Midwest province of the Catholic Church’s Augustinian order — signed an order that let him live at a Hyde Park monastery by a Catholic primary school. Ray added that Prevost was well aware of the claims made against him about abusing at least 13 children, the Mirror reported.

“He’s the one who gave me permission to stay there,” Ray revealed.

Despite the allegations, Ray moved less than a block from St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School. The school was not informed of his presence near their facility. What’s more, there was also a daycare center just across the alley.

When they let Ray settle next to the school, archdiocesan officials wrongly stated there were “no schools in the immediate area.”

While a 2020 memo states that Prevost was informed of Ray’s history of abuse, he still approved his stay.

However, a lawyer for the Augustinians claimed that Prevost was only “accepting a guest” and wasn’t responsible of daily oversight of Ray. According to the lawyer, it was a responsibility of the now-deceased Rev. James Thompson.

After spending two years at the monastery, Ray was removed and in 2012 he was defrocked by the Catholic Church. Despite the accusations against him, he was never convicted and is not on any government s*x offender registry.

“I felt abandoned by the church, but never felt abandoned by God,” Ray said. “My faith is still strong. I live out my life each day the best I can. When this comes up, there’s a pain in my chest.”

In the face of the Church’s global abuse crisis, Pope Leo asks for transparency and healing.

“Silence is not the solution. We must be transparent and honest. We must accompany and assist the victims, because otherwise their wounds will never heal,” Prevost told Vatican News in 2023.

Senator delivers reflective farewell, urges unity and civic responsibility

Just before Senator Romney started his speech, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell praised him for a “long and honorable career on the national political stage.”

“On the bingo cards of American politics, the ‘governor of Massachusetts, senator from Utah’ combination isn’t known to be hit very often,” McConnell said. “But Mitt Romney’s repeated success in public office is attested to the transcendent appeal of his character.

Addressing his colleagues, who he said will miss more than he’ll miss the Senate, Romney said, “During my life, I have rarely been truly alone — maybe taking tests at school or running cross-country or on my uncle’s tractor cultivating corn.

“My life’s work has been a group affair, and its center is my wife, Ann. She is my most trusted adviser, my indefatigable ally, the love of my life.”

His farewell address from the chamber floor reflected his accomplishments and his hopes for the future of the nation.

“God has blessed America because America is good. There are some today who would tear at our unity, who would replace love with hate, who deride our foundation of virtue, or who debase the values upon which the blessings of heaven depend,” he said. “A country’s character is a reflection not just of its elected officials, but also of its people.

“I leave Washington to return to be one among them and hope to be a voice of unity and virtue. For it is only if the American people merit his benevolence that God will continue to bless America. May he do so, is my prayer.”

Following his speech, senators from both sides came up to shake his hand or give him a hug.

Terrifying moment theme park ride detaches mid-air

Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, features an exquisite collection of 18 world-class rides, including Top Thrill 2, Steel Vengeance and Millennium Force, and is dubbed “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World.”

Recently, the theme park announced yet another thrill for excitement addicts — Siren’s Curse, the “tallest, longest and fastest” tilt coaster in North America — that will leave even those living on the edge hesitating whether or not to take a ride.

Inspired by folk legends of mysterious creatures said to dwell in the depths of Lake Erie, where the park is located on a peninsula, the ride ascends 160 feet before pausing on a segment of track that tilts to a full 90 degrees, creating the illusion of a “broken” track.

Riders are then plunged through 2,966 feet of twisted track at speeds of up to 58 mph. They experience 13 airtime moments and two 360° barrel rolls.

“Come face-to-face with 13 weightless airtime moments, two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls and a high-speed ‘triple-down’ element with twisted and overbanked track,” the website of Cedar Point writes of their newest attraction.

They also include health and safety advice. “Riders will experience changes in speed and direction, weightlessness, and rapid movements from side to side.

“A shoulder harness with a between-the-legs safety belt secures each rider over the head and across the chest.”

After the theme park shared a video of the terrifying tilt coaster, many were quick to compare it to scenes from the horror film Final Destination.

“I don’t ever get scared on roller coasters. But this one would have my heart pumping. Especially that back row,” one person commented.

“I love roller coasters and I love Cedar Point, but I’m not doing a disconnected track,” another added.

A third commented, “I prefer the tracks to be attached at all times.”

Siren’s Curse will be greet its first wave of brave riders by mid-June 2025.

Trump has savage 5-word response to reporter after learning where he worked

Following a Capitol Hill meeting with GOP lawmakers, President Donald Trump took time to speak to the reporters and take questions about his proposed trillion-dollar tax bill, which seeks to increase the limit on Trump’s 2017 tax cuts from $10,000 to $30,000 for Americans making less than $400,000 annually.

During the press, a reporter asked him about his thoughts regarding the comment made by Rep. Andy Harris, chair of the House Freedom Caucus, who said Trump didn’t adequately convince enough people to vote for the bill.

Initially, Trump started to respond to the question when he stopped to ask what publication the reporter worked for.

When he responded it was NOTUS, Trump said, “Who? I don’t even know what the hell that is. Get yourself a real job.”

NOTUS is a Washington-based nonprofit media outlet that describes itself as “a new Washington publication from the nonprofit, nonpartisan Allbritton Journalism Institute.”

His remark, which has since gone viral, was described as “savage” by many.

“Another banger, I fear,” one person commented.

“Trump’s dismissal of the NOTUS reporter shows his contempt for smaller media outlets. It’s a petty jab that undermines press freedom and distracts from real issues. He should engage with questions, not mock journalists’ jobs,” another added.

“Classic Trump,” a third remarked.

“Trump just ended that reporter’s career in one sentence,” someone else added.

This isn’t the first time the president to get into “conflict” with journalists.

In February, the White House barred all Associated Press journalists from access to locations such as the Oval Office and Air Force One after the outlet refused to comply with the Trump administration‘s request to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America on federal maps, websites, and documents.

I noticed something strange about the bride – what I found under her dress shocked everyone

My best friend Dave was tying the knot with a beautiful woman, and I was happy he found his soulmate. His bride, the most kind person I have ever met, loved him unconditionally. He was lucky to have her, and everyone agreed on that.

When the wedding day finally arrived and we were all gathered at the local church, something about the bride’s walk felt odd. Shanize was tall and gorgeous, her walking was gracious, and today, she didn’t resemble herself.

I turned to Dave’s sister and asked her if she could sense something was wrong, but she leaned and said, “Janice, please don’t make any scenes.”

How could she not notice Shanize’s weird walk? But Heather assured me that the bride was just nervous because it was her big day.

However, I wasn’t the only one who was aware of the awkwardness of Shanize’s steps. As she drew nearer, one of the guests whispered a joke about how the bride seemed to be “floating” down the aisle. Those around him chuckled, but I didn’t laugh. I just knew something wasn’t right.

And just as Heather, Dave’s sister, warned me not to act foolishly, I found myself walking behind the bride.

I bent over and lifted the hem of the bride’s gown just a few inches. What I saw shocked me.

As I knelt down further I noticed the person who head was covered in a veil wore pants underneath the fancy gown. What was going on, I thought to myself while looking at Dave who at that point wouldn’t take the huge smile off of his face.

The man in Shanize’s dress took his wig and started laughing at Dave. It was his best man and everyone believed he was pulling a prank on him, but the truth was, he wasn’t.

“What the hell is this?” Dave asked in confusion. “Where’s Shanize?”

The best man said Shanize was gone. She didn’t want to proceed with the wedding, but she also didn’t want to cancel it. What she wanted was everyone to know Dave was having an affair with one of the bridesmaids, Vanessa. She wanted him to be exposed, and the best man helped her with the plan.

The church was silent. The guests could barely put their thoughts into words from the shock.

Dave yelled that what the best man said wasn’t true. He denied having anything with Vanessa, who was standing just a few rows away. But it was obvious he wasn’t telling the truth.

It turned out I didn’t know my best friends that well.

He threw away his chance at happiness for a cheap fling, and that was his punishment.

I felt sorry for Dave, but I was glad Shanize discovered he was unfaithful before starting a new life with him.

Alone and broken, Dave continued kneeling at the church as he witnessed all the guests leaving the place in disapppintment.

Never store your cooked rice without knowing this

It’s not uncommon for us to end up with leftover food when we cook for our family. Most of the time, we simply store the leftovers in the fridge and save them for later. Sometimes, we even consume them the following day or in the days to come.

Most recently, however, there has been a buzz around leftover cooked rice and the potential risks of storing it the wrong way.

This phenomenon, which has been discussed a lot on the social media, is known as “fried rice syndrome” and “reheat syndrome.”

According to experts, cooked rice is an ideal environment for the spread of bacteria, particularly Bacillus cereus.

If we leave cooked rice on room temperature for too long, even longer than an hour, the bacterial spores start to grow, producing toxins.

Consuming this rice can cause food poisoning, nausea, abdominal pain, fever, and acute diarrhea. The symptoms may appear as early as an hour after consumption. In some cases, food poisoning can even lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

The problem is that not many people will ever suspect that their leftover rice is the culprit behind how sick they feel.

The bacteria may spread even if the cooked rice is stored in the fridge, although at a slower rate.

How we store the cooked rice is essential for avoiding bacteria to grow.

So, what is the safest way to store it, you probably wonder.

First, don’t let it in the cooking pot but spread it on a clean tray or a shallow container so it can cool down faster. Next, put it in a shallow, airtight container to prevent moisture accumulation and place it in the fridge withing an hour of cooking. Consume it after 24 to 48 hours maximum.

If stored in the freezer, it can last up to six months.

Now, when it comes to reheating it, make sure it reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to kill any bacteria that may have grown during storage.

Remember, never reheat cooked rice more than once.

Hospice chef reveals the one comfort food most people ask for before they die

At an Oxfordshire hospice, chef Spencer Richards makes sure those nearing the end of their life are served meals prepared with much love.

For this man, cooking for terminally ill patients isn’t just a job, but a calling.

Speaking to the Mirror, chef Richards revealed there is no greater privilege than making the last days of the patients a little bit better with his comforting food.

“My own philosophy is that there can be no greater privilege as a chef than serving someone their final meal. Recently a 21-year-old patient didn’t connect with anything on the standard menu. He was young and didn’t like the usual options, so we talked and he liked street food, so we made that happen,” he shared with the publication.

He recalled making a birthday cake for a 93-year-old patient who spent her entire life in a traditional home where birthday celebrations weren’t common.

“When we surprised her with one, she was in tears. She was absolutely over the moon.”

Actually, a birthday cake is the most common thing the patients at Sobell House Hospice ask for as their days on earth are slowly coming to an end.

“They’re small things, but especially for people who’ve been isolated or are feeling lonely, they mean a lot,” chef Richards said.

Further, he explained that adapting the dishes he prepares is of great importance since most of the patients who are at palliative care lose the ability to swallow. Their taste buds also change, and due to the medications and the treatments they receive.

One thing this hospice chef has noticed, however, is that patients with cancer “get a sweet tooth.”

Also, most of the patients are sensitive to salt.

“Food is a powerfully emotive medium – it can summon childhood memories and create new lasting ones. That’s what we do here.”
