His parents called him dumb but he grew up to be loved by millions

The name Henry Winkler is somehow best associated with the character of Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli from the hit series Happy Days. Fonzie quickly became the icon and the epitome of cool during the 1970’s.

Winkler was born on October 30, 1945, in New York City. Speaking of his career as an actor, and later producer, director and writer, Winkler said he always knew acting was his calling. “I knew that I wanted to act since I was old enough to reason,” he told NPR in 2019. “I never had a Plan B. I never deviated. I never thought that there was anything else that I could possibly do in this world except to try and be a working actor.”

During his childhood, he struggled with school and academics and that led to a strained relationship with his parents. At the time, Winkler had dyslexia, but he wasn’t diagnosed with it until later.

His parents were unaware of his dyslexia and labeled him as “dumb,” even going as far as calling him a ‘Dummo Hund,’ or dumb dog.

Despite the condition, young Winkler attended university and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Emerson College in 1967 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1970.

After taking part in a short-lived Broadway production in 1972, Winkler turned to commercials and became a famous face. “I got great at getting commercials and I didn’t have to do another job to make ends meet. I made my living and I could do plays for free at the Manhattan Theatre Club at night.”

When he appeared on Happy Days, millions of fans fell for his charm and manly appearance, and his motorcycle and leather jacket became sort of trademarks of the series. Although the role marked his acting career, he admitted once that it took him around eight years to get a good acting role after Fonz.

He acknowledged dyslexia as a silent barrier that had impacted his life. He was only able to overcome auditions by memorizing scripts, and used humor to mask any inadequacies, claiming to provide the ‘essence of the character.’

After the series was over, the Prime Time Emmy Award winner switched focus from acting to producing and directing. His production company produced many shows, including MacGyver, So Weird, and Mr. Sunshine. He starred in the movies like Scream and The Waterboy and on shows such as The Practice and Arrested Development.

In 2018, Winkler took the role of the acting teacher Gene Cousineau in the comedy/drama series Barry where he plays alongside Bill Hader. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the shooting of the series has been delayed. “We were reading the scripts for Barry. On March 13, they said, ‘Go home and don’t come back,’” he told Entertainment Tonight. “Then we heard July, then we heard September, now January…Praying we go back to work in January. I’ve been sitting here waiting to be Gene Cousineau since December of 2018.”

Since the early 2000’s, Winkler published around 30 books.

“The first time I was asked to write the books I didn’t even entertain the idea. I said to Alan Berger [Winkler’s agent at CAA] who made the suggestion to me there’s no way I could never write a book,” he told the Hollywood Reporter in 2011.

Winkler and wife Stacey Furstman Weitzman have been married since 1978.

The couple first met when he entered a clothing shop where she worked looking for a coat. Stacey helped him choose and he returned a week later and asked her on a date that she almost declined.

Speaking of their first encounter, Winkler recalled, “She was wearing purple parachute pants, and she had red hair, and without her even saying a word, I thought, ‘Woah, beautiful woman standing in front of me’. I came back to the store the next week, and she was there. And within 10 minutes, I learned how strong she is.”

Soon after they started dating, Stacey and her then 4-year-old son moved in with Winkler and the couple was starting to learn how to handle Winkler’s growing popularity.

”People would rush up to Henry and literally walk over my feet. One time I said, ‘You’ve just completely ruined my stockings.’ And this woman said, ‘But I love Fonzie!’” Stacey once shared with People.

The two welcomed a daughter and a son together, Zoey and Max.

Max followed into his dad’s footsteps and is working in Hollywood as a writer, producer, and director on popular productions such as New Girl and Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

Stacey is a two time cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer during the ’90s, and then again in 2007 when she underwent double mastectomy and is cancer free ever since.

In support of his wife, Winkler has gotten involved in a number of organizations which help raise breast cancer awareness. Among the rest, he was a guest speaker at the 13th annual “In The Pink of Health” Luncheon, an event that is one of many run by the organization to raise money for breast cancer patients and their families.

What we love about Winkler is that he’s never afraid to express his love for his wife of many years publicly. When James Corden surprised them with a photo of their wedding day on his show, Winkler said Stacey has been as beautiful as the first day he laid eyes on her.

”It does take work. There are glitches in the road, and you get a little off kilter, but if you have the ability and the stick-to-itiveness based on love, then your friendship and your relationship only gets better,” Stacey once explained to People when speaking of the couple’s long lasting marriage.

Kate Middleton sent ‘beautiful’ letter from hospital bed to support grieving widow

0

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales is a much-loved member of the British royalty. Over the years, she showed that despite her title, she’s very grounded, sympathetic, and always there for her people.

That is the reason why many Britons showed their concern and sent their well-wishes when her planned abdominal surgery was announced.

Although the Palace issued a statement regarding the surgery and revealed it would be performed at the renowned London Clinic, no further details have been revealed so far. As expected, it triggered plenty of rumors and people couldn’t help but wonder if anything more serious was in question. Kate’s hospital stay of two weeks added to the concerns because many believed it was a long stay.

Luckily, Kate is now home where she takes her time to recuperate. She’s at Adelaide Cottage at the Windsor grounds where she and William moved in recently.

The place, which was built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV, has a long royal history.

Many royals resided there over the years, and the Adelaide Cottage went under complete renovation in 2015.

It is said that before ended up living at Frogmore Cottage while residing in Britain, Harry and Meghan also considered choosing Adelaide Cottage as their home.

According to royal reporter Victoria Murphy, William and Kate preferred a move to Adelaide Cottage because it “allows William and Kate the opportunity to offer their children a more rural upbringing away from central London and the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace, which is a popular tourist attraction.”

Another reason was that the place had already been renovated. Kate and William decided not to have staff live there.

According to the Palace, Kate would only be able to return to her royal duties around Easter, which seems like a long way to go, but she has all the help she needs.

Her parents, as well as her siblings are always there to provide a hand.

According to royal expert Sarah Hewson, Carole and Michael Midleton were also spending time at the hospital with their daughter.

“We haven’t seen them, but we saw William on the first day and then we didn’t see him again,” she said, as per Express. “Now, there are multiple entrances where they are able to slip in and out but we do know Carole and Michael Middleton were on hand particularly to help out with the children where William is, perhaps, visiting his wife.”

“They’d be doing a drop-off or pick-up [at school],” she added.

The royal expert continued, describing the Mdidletons as a “tight-knit family.”

“..and they and close friends have been rallying round and will continue to do so because it’s going to be a long time before Kate is really back up on her feet. [It’s] major surgery that she’s been through and, you know, we’re not going to see her out on royal duties until April – so, more than two months,” she concluded.

William has also been there every step of the way. He was taking care of the children and in order to spend more time by Kate’s side, he even postponed and rescheduled many of his duties.

On Wednesday night, Prince William attended London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner. There, he held a speech and thanked everyone for their kind wishes regarding both his wife as well as his father, King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer on Monday.

“Good evening everyone. Thank you all for being here. And thank you to those whose hard work has made this evening possible. I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all. It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather ‘medical’ focus. So I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all,” William said.

At the time being, the Princess of Wales is doing some royal work from her bed.

Following her surgery, Kate found the time to send an emotional letter to TV host Kate Garraway whose husband died due to complications from COVID-19 in January.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Garraway shared she had received a letter from David and Victoria Beckham, as well as from William and Kate.

“And from the royal family — Catherine and William sent a beautiful letter, and I know Catherine has been in hospital herself,” the host said.

“Even the King — because there is somebody [who] knows about grief — that anticipatory grief where you know something has a risk of happening and how different it is when it does happen.”

This act only shows how sympathetic Kate is. No wonder she’s one of the much-loved members of the Firm.

Father withholds wedding finances due to daughter’s aisle request, labeling it ‘selfish’

Even the taught of him not being able to share that precious moment with her filled him with disappointment, let alone hearing his daughter telling him that.

The daughter got angry and accused him of not respecting her choices, adding that her parents “didn’t own her.” These words shattered the father’s heart. “I feel insulted because we never treated her like property or an object. Instead, we did everything we could to give her a wonderful life,” he wrote. “She’s had every opportunity in her life so far and to exclude us from this day is a slap in the face,” he added.

Kate Middleton suffers from a lesser-known illness – when she ‘felt sick,’ Queen Elizabeth stepped in

0

Kate Middleton is in the middle of recovery from her planned abdominal surgery. She’s recuperating in the comfort of her home, Adelaide Cottage at the Windsor grounds where the Prince and Princess of Wales moved in recently.

The place, which was built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV, has a long royal history.

Many royals resided there over the years, and the Adelaide Cottage went under complete renovation in 2015.

According to royal reporter Victoria Murphy, William and Kate preferred a move to Adelaide Cottage because it “allows them the opportunity to offer their children a more rural upbringing away from central London and the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace, which is a popular tourist attraction.”

Another reason was that the place had already been renovated. Kate and William decided not to have staff living there.

“Kate and William were very keen for a modest home to start their new lives in Windsor,” a source told The Sun. “Adelaide Cottage fits the bill because it is a four-bedroom home and they do not need any more as they have no live-in staff. They were adamant they didn’t want anything too showy or anything that needed renovating or extra security so as not to be a burden on the taxpayer.

The source continued, “The added bonus is they can send George, Charlotte, and Louis to school together locally. The three children will enjoy running around and playing in the gardens, which is the kind of life they enjoy so much when at Anmer Hall.”

According to the Palace, Kate won’t be able to return to her royal duties until Easter, but the truth is that no one knows with certainty how much time she would need before returning to her normal life as a royal.

During her pregnancies, Kate suffered from terrible morning sickness, but that wasn’t the only type of illness that gave her a hard time.

Recently, Mirror revealed that at Trooping the Colour Kate felt sick.

In fact, the Princess felt ill while riding the horse-drawn carriage because the swaying of the old, vintage coach had made her nauseous. It was then revealed that she suffered from motion sickness. This was the reason why she decided to use a car and not a carriage on the day she tied the knot with William in 2011.

“The truth is the Duchess of Cambridge gets very seasick and doesn’t enjoy the rocking motion of carriages,” a royal source told the Mirror. “Worrying she may be ill on such an important occasion as Trooping the Colour added to her stress. Protocol meant she had no choice but to go by state carriage.”

At the time, the Palace opted not to speak of then Duchess of Cambridge’s motion sickness.

But Kate isn’t the sole member of the family with this condition. Late Queen Elizabeth was also seasick, even though she often sailed in her Royal Yacht Britannia, and recommended her favorite pills to Kate.

Speaking of her morning sickness during her pregnancies, Kate said “[It was] utterly rotten. I was really sick,” on Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

“I wasn’t eating the things I should be eating and yet the body was still able to take all the goodness from my body and to grow new life, which I think is fascinating,” she added.

“William didn’t feel he could do much to help and it’s hard to see you’re suffering without actually being able to do anything about it.”

Asked if she had experienced morning sickness only with Prince George or during all of her pregnancies, Kate answered, “Yes, unfortunately. Lots of people have it far, far worse, but it was definitely a challenge. Not just for me but also for your loved ones around you – and I think that’s the thing – being pregnant and having a newborn baby and things like that, impacts everybody in the family.”

19-year-old Christian Burrows brings judges to tears with song about late brother

0

Talent shows are full of surprises and that is one of the reasons we get so addicted to them. We never know if that shy girl who’s trembling on the stage would be the next star, or if the boy who can’t wait to let his voice loose would get a pass for the next round. What we do know, however, is that some of the performances are so powerful they stay with us long after we see them.

When Christian Burrows took the stage of one of the most popular music talent shows, The X Factor, not many believed he would make many cry.

When Simon asked him what he prepared for them, Christian said he’d penned a song about the loss of his baby brother Nathan who passed away at just three months old.

“I’ve got a song that I wrote for my brother who passed away when I was only young,” he told Simon, who asked him if he was certain he wanted to perform such a personal and emotional song. Christian said he believed he was ready, but no one was prepared for what followed.

The lyrics of Thunder Buddy, which Christian performed in front of the entire nation, touched everyone’s heart.

Before his son saw the light of the day, Christian only performed it twice in his life; once for his mom and once for his dad.

He left the stage with four yeses and proud of his performance that left some of the judges in tears.

Following his appearance on the show, Christian spoke to Metro Online and shared the heartbreak his family suffered when his brother passed away. At the time, Christian was 2 and a half years old and although he doesn’t remember anything specifically, he said he couldn’t help but wonder what kind of relationship he and his late brother would have now.

My neighbor requested that I care for her 6 children – I called children services a couple of hours after she left

0

Taking to the Reddit community, a woman wanted to know if she had been in the wrong for contacting Child Services after the mother of six dropped them on her doorstep and said she would be back by Sunday.

OP explained that the mother of the children had an uncanny skill for talking the neighbors into babysitting for her and although she was the type who would say no to taking care of someone else’s children, she was also tricked into babysitting them in the past.

“Yesterday she came knocking on my door again. So I pretended I wasn’t home. She continued to knock harder and I thought she would yank the letterbox right off. So, I went to answer. She quickly said a few sentences that I didn’t quite understand and that she would be back on Sunday,” OP wrote in her post. “She has 6 children ranging from 6 months to 7 years old. I told her I couldn’t and she said the black cab was waiting for her. I tried to grab her hand to stop her from leaving, and I said I was unable to and she ran off and got in the cab.”

Pexels

OP was suddenly left with the children whom she invited inside her home. Not knowing what to do, she texted the mother writing she expected her to be back in the next 40 minutes in order to pick her children up or she would be forced to call Children’s Services. When she didn’t answer the text, OP tried to call her and told her the same thing. The mother, however, said she was already out of town and she couldn’t possibly return in such a short amount of time.

She also said that if OP couldn’t take care of them, she could drop them to this other neighbor, Jenifer, who was 68 years old and with a fragile health.

“I repeated that if she wasn’t here in 10 she could pick them up at the local council if they decided she was a fit enough mother. She said a few bad words and told me I would never. So I did as in the moment it felt like she was baiting me. After phoning Child Services I sent her a text that it was done. She phoned me back and said she was halfway to Blackpool and that she would murder me if it was true. So I sent her a video when Child Services picked them up. The police were there too as they said they often tag along for collecting abandoned children in case something criminal has happened and they asked a lot of questions about the mother,” OP wrote.

Pixabay

Now although OP was convinced she did the right thing, her husband, who used to be in foster care as a young child, was fuming at her because of her action. He accused her of separating the mother from her children and that she didn’t give the mother enough time to come and pick up her kids before alerting the Child Services.

He said she shouldn’t have taken the children in in the first place, but she should have put them inside the cab or leave them at Jennifer’s as instructed by their mom.

Pexels

“He told me anything that happens to those children in care is on my head and then he told me of things he himself experienced and what he knew of others in care had experienced,” OP wrote and added: “I haven’t slept all that much and my husband left for work without speaking to me. I wonder if I should go back to Child Services and say I overreacted or that it was a misunderstanding and find a way to make it up to the children and get them out of there. I had no idea foster care was that bad,” she ended her story.

Reality has now emerged about Carrie Underwood’s significant other

0

Carrie Underwood and husband Mike Fisher make a perfect celebrity couple. The pair tied the knot in 2010 in a dreamy wedding in Georgia.

The winner of the fourth season of American Idol and the Ottawa Senators hockey player at a backstage meet-and-greet following one of her concerts. Carrie’s initial reaction to Mike was “hot, hot, hot.”

Their relationship was challenging at the beginning because Carrie resided in Nashville while Mike lived in Canada at the time.

“I mean, can I make dating more difficult?” the Grammy Award winner once said during an episode of VH1’s Behind the Music. “Let’s get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome.”

The two stayed in touch through phone calls before meeting again in person around three months following their initial meeting.

In her songs, Carrie often sings about heartbreak, but her real love life can’t be any better.

Speaking to People, she once said, “I feel like he is the person I was meant to be with.”

In their 2020 docuseries, Mike and Carrie: God & Country, the songstress and the athlete admitted to facing several highs and lows in their marriage.

“We learn from each other and have spirited discussions about things that we disagree on, but at the end of the day, we love each other very much,” she said in an episode.

However, no matter the challenges, the couple learned how to communicate through their differences.

The couple share two children together, Isaiah, born in 2015, and Jacob, born in 2019.

“I love my role as a mom and wife. In addition to what I get to do onstage, I go to baseball practice,” Carrie shared in a May 2023 interview with Vegas Magazine. “It’s wonderfully ordinary, and I love that. In a lot of ways, I lead a double life. I’m mom at home, and then I fly away to Vegas or to go on tour.”

Of course, when she’s busy touring, she gets a lot of help from Mike who’s taking care of the kids.

Back in 2017, she experienced a fall and broke her wrist. It was a tough period which Carrie says wouldn’t have been able to overcome easily had it not been for her husband.

“He is so levelheaded about everything, and when I was dealing with everything, not just emotionally but hormonally, when you’re going on that roller coaster of pregnant, not pregnant, pregnant, not pregnant, I was probably not very easy to love, to be honest,” she shared with People. “And to have somebody so even-keeled, he was my lifeline, keeping me grounded.”

The couple celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary last year and they are still going strong.

Terminally ill man warned others not to make the same mistake he had made

0

There are times when despite feeling unwell, we refuse to visit a doctor hoping that the pain would eventually go away on its own. The sad reality is that if we don’t seek medical help when we first feel the symptoms of an illness, it may be too late when we do it.

A 31-year-old man from Middlesborough, UK, who was battling terminal cancer advocated about the importance of regular check-ups and visiting a doctor on time.

Liam Griffiths believed that he could have been able to beat the cancer had he turned to a medical professional sooner.

Despite his efforts to beat the illness, Liam was delivered the devastating news it was fatal.

Namely, he was suffering from peritoneal cancer, a form of cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen.

In an interview, Liam revealed that he started experiencing stomach swelling, chronic constipation, cramps and vomiting in March of 2023. Although his symptoms seemed to be severe, he didn’t visit a doctor because he was self-employed and didn’t want to lose out on wages.

He hoped the symptoms would go away, but they only worsened and became even more severe which forced him to seek medical help. Once at the hospital, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, but a month later he got a call from the doctor and was informed that he was in fact misdiagnosed and that he had cancer.

He started treatments right away, but sadly, his cancer was resistant to the chemotherapy.

Despite the gravity of his situation, this young man found the time and strength to send a message to every person out there, and that message is not to delay the doctor’s visit in case you feel something’s wrong with your body.

“I want to push this message because if just one or two people go to the hospital and get checked because of my mistake and my story, that would be amazing,” he said. “They found my cancer at stage three advanced – but if I had just gone to see the doctors earlier, maybe they could have caught it. I was self-employed, and I needed the money, so I just kept powering through. I did what I thought a man needed to do – I was manning up.”

Source: Liam Griffiths| Metro.co.uk

Not losing hope despite the dull prognosis, Liam’s friend, Eve Bannatyne, started a fundraiser which helped raise over £18,000 in donations for Liam’s private treatment because his chemotherapy on the NHS no longer worked.

“I remember I asked what my life span would look like and my doctor said he doesn’t want to give me a timeframe of when my life could end, because he doesn’t want me to focus my whole life around it,Liam told Metro.

“I agreed and just decided I wanted to get home, fulfil some wishes and just live my life while I can.”

Source: Liam GriffithsGazettelive.uk

Sadly, Liam passed away on February 1, 2024.

The memorial service for him was led by Rev John Hearn. Liam’s dad spoke of his son and said, “Liam was a beautiful, funny, caring, big softie. As a kid he was very loving towards his mam and dad. There was always a cuddle. He also had his cheeky side.”

Liam’s life story serves as a reminder that we should always prioritize our health, even if that means losing out on wages or rescheduling certain commitments and duties.

We are so very sorry for this brave man’s passing. May he rest in peace.
