My 10-year-old always checked the mailbox alone – Today I did, and it left me in tears

Lily is my world. She and I have been very close ever since her dad’s passing, and I don’t there is anything stronger than our mother-daughter bond. Recently, however, Lily asked me to give her the key to our mailbox and that became a pattern. Her interest in the mailbox made me curious, so I finally decided to check the mail myself. What I discovered filled my heart with warmth.

“Mom, can someone become friends with a person they don’t know well through letters?” Lily asked me one day. “Of course, baby,” I answered, unaware of her plan.

“People can form beautiful connections through letters,” I said.

She looked at me with her big blue eyes and smiled at me.

The following day, she asked me if she could check the mail. She was excited and I said yes and handed her the key.

The same thing happened the following day, and it continue for a few days.

I thought it was strange that my 10-year-old daughter suddenly became so interested in the mailbox.

But I didn’t say anything. However, Lily’s behavior also changed. She became more secretive and as though she was hiding something from me.

One day, I saw he putting something in her school bag, and when I asked what it was, she said it was nothing important, just a school project.

I was really interested to learn what was going on without invading Lily’s privacy.

After giving it some thought, I asked her to tell me what was with the mailbox and if I could check it myself. She said it was nothing big and asked me to promise not to open the mailbox.

But my concern grew bigger and I broke the promise.

Just before Lily returned home from school, I opened the mailbox. Inside were letters addressed to Mrs. Thompson, our mail-lady.

It turned out that Mrs. Thompson lost her daughter and Lily learned that. She felt sorry and decided to write to her and leave the letter in the mailbox for Mrs. Thompson to find.

In one of the letters, Lily wrote about school, and the cookies we made together, adding that she wished she could share some with her.

There was also a letter from Mrs. Thompson in which she wrote that Lily’s letters brought her joy following her daughter’s sudden passing.

That evening, I asked Lily to tell me who she was sending letters to. She hesitated at first, but then she told me about Mrs. Thompson. I pretended I had never heard of her before.

Looking at Lily, I felt extremely proud of her. Although she was just ten, she was kind and compassionate. Tears of joy rolled down my eyes when I witnessed with how much love she spoke of her newly-made friend.

The following week, we invited Mrs. Thompson over. Lily made cookies all by herself.

The sweet lady was very thankful. She said that after her daughter passed away, she felt extremely lonely, but Lily’s words brought encouragement.

From that day on, Mrs. Thompson was our guest every week.

My dad’s voice message tore our family apart – I got even, but was the price too high?

Mother’s Day was just around the corner and I texted my dad about getting stuff for my mom when suddenly I received a voice message from him. The problem was that message wasn’t meant for me.

I looked forward to surprising my mom for Mother’s Day. She deserved the finest things because she had always sacrificed so much for our family. From handling every household chore to preparing meals every single day, she made sure we were all loved, cared for, and well-fed.

Since I wanted both my dad and my brother to be involved in celebrating the day together with my mom, I texted dad. A few minutes later, I received a voice message from him, thinking he came up with ideas about a present that he wanted to share with me. But what I heard crushed my world.

“Hey, beautiful. I can’t wait to see you. I miss the warmth of your body next to mine,” he said. “Be ready, I’ll be at your place in minutes.”

I was shocked. Who was he sending such messages to?

I called him that very minute and asked him about the message. He didn’t seem to be bother that much. He just said not to tell my mom anything or I would regret it.

My own father was sending love message to another woman and he was threatening his own son.

Suddenly, he turned into a man I didn’t recognize.

That evening, as I sat in the kitchen with my mom, my dad entered and gave mom a gentle kiss.

I couldn’t even look him in the eyes, but he placed his hand on my shoulder and said we needed to talk.

Once we were alone, I asked him what was going on. But instead of an explanation, he handed me a $500 bill and said, “This is for your silence. Get yourself something nice and don’t cause any problems.”

I was disgusted by his words.

One think I was certain of was that I couldn’t lie to my own mother. She was made fool by the man she gave everything to, and I wasn’t going to let that continue.

I used the $500 to by food for Mother’s Day and invited all my family; my aunts and uncles, and my grandparents.

But just as the dinner was about to start, I said I wanted to propose a toast.

“Mom, you are the most caring and loving person I have ever met,” I said as I raised my glass. “We are all lucky to have you.”

My mom smiled and thanked me for my kind words.

“But,” I continued, as anger swell within me, “there’s something you all need to know about Dad.”

My dad’s face went pale. But even before he could say anything or stop me, I played the voice message he sent to me by mistake.

Hearing his words, my mom almost collapsed. Everyone else was in complete shock.

As they exchanged glances, I turned to my mom and said, “You deserve much better than this.”

My dad couldn’t defend himself. He tried to speak but no words came out. He stood there, embarrassed and guilty.

In the days to come, mom filed for divorce and asked him to leave the house that belonged to her.

What I learned was that he was now homeless, but honestly, he didn’t deserve anything better.

Twenty years after burying my wife, she literally saved me from a stroke

My wife, Taylor, was involved in a severe car accident. However, when the police contacted me and I arrived at the scene, she was nowhere to be found.

Authorities began an extensive search that involved helicopters, but there was no trace of Taylor. The car was there, all of her documents were there, but she wasn’t. The blood stains showed that she moved towards the woods, which made authorities assume she was attacked by wild animals.

Weeks turned into months and her mother forced me to organize a funeral for my wife. I was reluctant, but I finally agreed. As we laid an empty coffin in the ground, I believed I would get the closure I needed badly, but that didn’t happen.

I missed my wife every second of every day. She was my world, and now she was no longer part of my life.

I would spend my days wandering around, hoping to see a familiar face but to no avail. Then one day, as I was having my morning coffee at the local coffee shop, I suddenly felt my arm going numb. The next thing I remember was collapsing on the ground and hearing a voice that I recognized asking me, “What color is the sky?”

When I woke up, I was at the hospital, calling Taylor’s name over and over again. And yes, she was there, looking at me with an odd expression on her face. “Are you my husband?” she asked.

“Yes, Taylor, it’s me, Matthew, your husband,” I said as I reached for her hand, but she pulled it away from me.

Confused, she said she started having flashes about her life. She remembered my face, but she wasn’t sure if we were married.

In the days to come, she explained everything to me. She told me how a man named Alister found her and convinced her that the two were married. They lived in a secluded place, surrounded by few houses only and took care of a bunch of animals. She accepted that life as her own, but it was recently that she started remembering things.

When she saw me at the coffee shop that day, I looked familiar, and when I collapsed, she rushed to help me.

I told her about our life together and how I never loved anyone else. I never lost hope of finding her one day. The albums of our wedding day helped her remember even more.

But my wife wasn’t ready to be with me right away. She needed time to think about everything that had happened to her during the last 20 years.

We started slow. Coffee and lunch here and there, long conversations, and stolen glances that said more than words.

Eventually, we got back together and started our life all over. As of the man who lied to her, he was taken into custody. However, after he shared how his own wife died three years prior Taylor’s accident and he believed he was helping Taylor, she forgave him.

Why Richard Gere decided to leave the US and relocate to Spain

The American Gigolo star, Richard Gere, is saying his farewells to Hollywood.

75-year-old Gere revealed his plan to relocate to Madrid, Spain, with his wife Alejandra Silva and their children. The actor shared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that they are planning to move just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving there.

Speaking on why they decided to make the European move, Gere said, “My wife is Spanish and—is this a problem for anybody out there?” His words made some of the members of the audience gasp. “Of course I’ll be back!” he added.

According to him, his wife had given him an ultimatum about residing in the States and his time was up.

“My wife is Spanish and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid,” he explained.

The actor further added that his children are bilingual and that they would “flourish” in Spain.

“My wife, she grew up in a very big Spanish family, like a big Italian family,” he laughed.

“Her grandmother was kind of the glue that held that altogether, and the grandmother passed away about a year and a half ago, two years ago.

“So my wife, I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family. She’s already planning for, you know, 35 people for Sunday lunches.”

Speaking to Vanity Fair Spain earlier this year, the Runaway Bride star confessed that a possible move to Spain would help him get out of his comfort zone. His wife would get to be close to her family and friends, and their kids would get to know the culture better.

“For me, going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure,” he confessed back in April. “Because I have never lived full-time outside the United States,” he told the magazine.

In October, Gere sold his home in Connecticut for $10.7 million. He previously purchased the six-bedroom property from Grammy-winning singer Paul Simon in 2022 for $10.8 million.

As a child, I saved a girl from a fire – Years later, I was shocked to see my childhood photo on my boss’s desk

The memories of that scary experience and the smoke of the flames burning my lungs has been something I could never fully forget. Chunks of that faithful day haunted me long after I acted by pure instinct and ran into the burning house in an attempt to save the girl whose calls for help echoed throughout the neighborhood from the fire.

I’m still haunted by my neighbor’s voice yelling, “I called help already, don’t get inside. You are going to die.”

But as a 12-year-old boy, I didn’t think of any consequences. Everything I could think of at that moment was to get inside the house.

As I tried to make my way through the tiny window, I could hear my favorite jersey tearing apart. The palms of my hands were burnt, and I kept asking for the child inside to guide me to her with her voice through the fire.

After what seemed like an eternity, I spotted her under a wooden desk.

“I’m scared,” she kept repeating over and over again. “I’m scared too,” I said. “But we are going to make it out alive.”

She clung to me with her tiny hands. I thought to myself, “This girl isn’t older than eight.”

As I tried to lift her towards the tiny window, a heard someone saying, “I have her.” That same guy then pulled me out of the window and I collapsed in the ground, trying hard to gasp some fresh air.

“You are bravest young man I have ever seen,” one of the firefighters said to me and put his hat on my head. In the next moment, I was on my feet, with the girl I saved in my embrace, posing for a photo that would turn that moment into eternity.

Twenty-three years later, I still thought of the girl. Following the incident, I have never heard of her again. I always wondered how her life turned out and whether she thought of me as much as I thought of her.

What I didn’t know was that our paths would cross again in the most unexpected way over two decades after that fire.

That day, after a successful presentation on my emergency response system prototype that made an impression at the executives, I was about to meet my new boss; a woman named Linda. She was known for her bold decisions and for taking risks. Those who worked with her described her as a strict woman committed to her job entirely.

Once I got out of the elevator, a huge room full of office cubicles stretched out before me. “Welcome Mr. Eric,” the woman at the reception greeted me. “Follow me, please,” she said and guided me towards the corner office.

I felt a bit nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, but the moment I entered that office, my heart raced even more. On the wall, a familiar picture caught my eye. It was the photo of me as a 12-year-old boy and that little girl whose life I saved from the fire.

All the memories came flooding back like a restless river.

Linda, my boss, asked me if everything was alright. With a shaky voice I asked her why she had that photo there and where did she find it. She took it and went through the frame with her fingers. It felt as though she had done it plenty of times before.

“That’s me,” I barely uttered. “And you are the girl whose life I saved. I wondered what happened to you,” I said.

Looking straight into my eyes, Linda said, “Oh my God, it’s really you. I could never forget your eyes.”

Over time, we bonded through our job and our past experience.

We fall for one another and one day, we went to the place where we first met; the place of the devastating fire. Now, the empty space was covered in flowers and grass.

“This is where all started,” Linda said. “And this is where our new life begins,” I said as I got on one knee and proposed to her.
