Appearing on the podcast Wiser Than Me, hosted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, actress Glenn Close revealed she has a clear idea on how she wants to spend the final days of her life and the story goes back to her grandparents’ slaughterhouse.

“[My grandparents] had this wonderful stone cottage on their farm, on their property that I think originally had been a slaughterhouse,” she recalled.

“But it was made into this really cosy cottage. And that was my first memory, in that little cottage. Stone, it had ivy on the front. It had literally a white picket fence around it, in the middle of a hay field and woods.”

Stone decided to build such a stone cottage behind her house, “because the happiest and most inspiring years of my life was in that place.”

Louis-Dreyfus said Close’s plans for her death are “extraordinary,” with Close confirming that renovations on the cottage have already begun.

“I think the stone part is built. And I think this week they’re starting the porch,” Close shared. “There’s a little porch that goes down onto a terrace that’s between the cottage and the bigger house. It makes me so happy to think that.”

The Knives Out star added: “I have decided that I am going to end my days in that cottage.”

However, while she may be making plans about her final years, Stone also revealed that she doesn’t feel her age. The actress, who is 78, said she feels younger than she is in reality. “Oh God, I feel probably around in my 20s. Maybe early 30s,” she said.

“When I think of how old I actually am, it just amazes me,” she shared. “So I don’t think about it much.

“Cause I don’t think i fit into whatever people expect you to be like when you’re 78 years old.”

The 8–1 decision overturns a lower court injunction that had blocked the administration from ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan migrants, setting the stage for potential deportations and igniting a national debate on immigration policy.

Only Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented. The ruling clears the way for the Trump administration to terminate TPS for roughly 300,000 Venezuelan nationals, a program originally established under the Biden administration due to “extraordinary and temporary conditions” preventing safe return to Venezuela.

During oral arguments, U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer contended that the lower court had overstepped its authority, stressing that immigration policy involves “sensitive and foreign-policy-laden judgments” best managed by the executive branch.

The legal back-and-forth began in earnest after Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem rescinded Venezuela’s TPS in a February memo, with enforcement beginning in April. This reversed multiple extensions issued during the Biden era, including a January 2025 extension

Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the hero who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach shooters, has been photographed recovering in hospital and says he would repeat the brave act if faced with the same situation again.

However, his former migration lawyer, Sam Issa, confirmed Al-Ahmed injuries he sustained during the heroic act are “far more serious than have been reported,” according to The Daily Mail. “He’s having multiple surgeries, he’s got five gunshot wounds. It’s a serious injury – far more serious than has been reported.

“At this stage, he says he has no feeling in his arm. I’m no medical doctor but he said to me that it seems like one of the bullets may have hit a nerve.”

Issa added: “He doesn’t regret what he did. He said he’d do it again. But the pain has started to take a toll on him.

“He’s not well at all. He’s riddled with bullets. Our hero is struggling at the moment.”

As of Monday, more than $1.2 million had already been donated for Al-Ahmed through crowdfunding.

The donation page was set on the initiative of US billionaire Bill Ackman who was reported to have donated $99,000.

The footage of 43-year-old Al-Ahmed grabbing terrorist Sajid Akram from behind and wrestling away his firearm has gone viral, and people from all over the world are praising the father of two for his quick-thinking and heroism. Had he not acted the way he did, the dead toll could be even higher.

The gunman toppled backward when Al-Ahmed grabbed the rifle, then raised it with the barrel toward the now disarmed shooter without pulling the trigger. Akram then turned and ran as Al-Ahmed leaned down, placing the rifle against a tree, when a second bystander made a run at the shooter and threw an object at him.

The duel took place in front of a second alleged gunman, Akram’s 24-year old son Naveed, who was waiting on a nearby footbridge armed. In a critical condition, Naveed was taken to hospital under police guard while his father was shot dead by police at the scene.

After confronting the gunman, Al-Ahmed was hit twice in the shoulder and arm while taking cover behind a tree. He has been hospitalized at St George Hospital.

Rob Reiner, a well-known Hollywood director and producer, and his wife Michele, a distinguished photographer, were discovered dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles on Sunday.

The fatal incident is being investigated as an alleged homicide and the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail.

Rob Reiner began his career on television, appearing as the vocal Mike “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family before becoming one of Hollywood’s most respected and versatile directors. His extraordinary string of films, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery and A Few Good Men, made him a director who could switch with ease from comedy to drama to thriller.

Throughout his career, Reiner worked with some of the most prominent Hollywood figures, and following his tragic passing, condolences came pouring in.

Actor John Cusack, who starred in Reiner’s film The Sure Thing, wrote on X, “Shocked by the death of Rob Reiner – a great man.”

Elijah Wood, who appeared in Reiner’s 1994 family film North, wrote, “Horrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife Michele. So much love to their kids and family.”

Producer and writer Norman Lear, whom Reiner’s father, Carl Reiner, a successful comedian and writer, worked with on All in the Family, posted a tribute on behalf of his family. “Norman often referred to Rob as a son, and their close relationship was extraordinary, to us and the world. Norman would have wanted to remind us that Rob and Michele spent every breath trying to make this country a better place, and they pursued that through their art, their activism, their philanthropy, and their love for family and friends.” Rob often referred to Norman as to his “second father.”

James Woods, who earned an Oscar nomination for starring in Reiner’s 1996 drama Ghosts of Mississippi, said he was “devastated by this terrible event”.

Among those deeply affected by Reiner’s and his wife’s dead was Monty Python actor and creator Eric Idle. The two first met back in 1975 at Carl Reiner’s home.

At the time of his death, Eric and Rob were working with John Cleese on a reboot of the comedy series Fawlty Towers, which Reiner and his wife were producing.

Idle revealed that a day before the tragedy, he and Rob spoke on the phone. Taking to X, Idle wrote, “I spoke to him last night for over an hour. I always enjoyed his company. I met him at his Dad’s in 1975. He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future. This is so awful. I shall miss him. A clever, talented and very thoughtful man. So awful.”

A simple habit, a powerful life lesson

Clara found herself standing in front of the fridge way longer than she planned to because she couldn’t stop staring at the eggs. You see, they weren’t just raw eggs, but hard-boiled eggs already peeled and neatly placed on the second shelf. They were only covered with a plastic lid.

Growing up, she always saw her mother handling food with caution. She was checking labels, dates, sniffing containers, and wouldn’t let leftovers sitting in the kitchen for more than a day. And now, her mother-in-law boiled the eggs just in case and kept them in the fridge for days.

In fact, Ruth had this habit of preparing most of the food in advance and keeping it in the fridge, and that included soups, stews, a bunch of cooked grains, and even fruits which she cut in pieces and slices. And now, she started doing that with the eggs.

Clara closed the fridge and didn’t dare to have those eggs. But somehow, the image stayed with her the entire day.

Later that afternoon, she stepped outside and found Ruth in the garden. She was wearing an old shirt and moving slowly, as if there was no reason to rush. Clara watched for a moment, and then asked about the eggs, trying not to offend her mother-in-law.

Ruth smiled and said she boiled them every few days. It saved time, especially in the mornings. If someone was hungry, they were there. No big reason beyond that.

That was all. No explanation about safety or rules, just a simple habit she found useful.

Over the next few days, Clara started paying more attention, and she realized that nothing in the fridge was random. The containers were actually labeled with dates and leftovers were rotated. Ruth handled the food properly, and she had her own method that seemed to be working for many years. Clara realized her mother-in-law didn’t cook around hunger but so that hunger wouldn’t be an emergency.

The thing was that Ruth’s way was just different than what Claire was used to when it came about food. As a girl, there was nothing in between when it came to food, you either eat it right away or you lose it. In Ruth’s kitchen, however, food was steady.

Without really deciding to, Clara unconsciously started copying some of Ruth’s habits. She washed vegetables when she brought them home and cooked a little extra rice instead of just enough. She planned one meal ahead instead of thinking about everything at once. Nothing dramatic changed, but her evenings felt less rushed than before.

One night, she and Ruth sat at the table peeling eggs for dinner. They talked about small things like the weather, errands, someone they both knew.

Clara realized she wasn’t uneasy anymore. Not about the food, and not about doing things differently from what she was used to. It wasn’t about right or wrong. It was just another way to handle daily life.

“I think I understand now,” she said.

Ruth smiled. “It helps,” she said. “That’s all.”

The tragic killing of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, a famous photographer and a film producer, shook Hollywood.

The couple were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14, by their daughter, Romy, who stumbled upon what officials describe as a “horror double murder.”

Paramedics and firefighters responded to a home on Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood around 3:38 p.m. on Sunday after a man, 78, and a woman, 68, were found dead and later identified by police as the well-known couple. Authorities said there were no signs of forced entry, and sources told the Los Angeles Times the victims appeared to have suffered stab wounds.

At a Sunday night briefing, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton declined to provide details, saying the investigation into the deaths is ongoing. TMZ reported that the couple’s throats were allegedly slit after a dispute at the home. According to a neighbor who spoke with ABC7, Larry David and Billy Crystal, both close to Reiner, visited the scene at different times. Crystal appeared visibly upset as he was leaving Reiner’s home.

Authorities are treating the case as an “apparent homicide,” and have since arrested the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32. He is being held on $4 million bail.

Mayor Karen Bass said she was “heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele.”

Former President Barack Obama also paid tribute to the couple, writing, “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michelle. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose.”
