Among the rest, the cabbage “is rich in vitamin B6 and folate, both of which are essential for many important processes in the body, including energy metabolism and the normal functioning of the nervous system.”

Further, it is high in fiber and contains powerful antioxidants, especially vitamin C that may protect against heart disease, certain cancers, and vision loss.

On top of that, cabbage helps reduce chronic inflammation, improves digestion, and helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Despite the plethora of benefits it offers for the human health, there are certain people who should avoid including cabbage in their diet.

1. People With Thyroid Conditions

Cabbage, like other cruciferous vegetables, contains goitrogens that may interfere with thyroid function, especially if consumed in large quantities. Goitrogens can make it harder for your thyroid to get the iodine it needs, which can disturb hormone production and affect your health.

So, if you experience thyroid issues, especially goiter (an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland) approach cabbage with care.

2. People With Digestive Sensitivities

Cabbage can cause bloating and gasses due to the raffinose it contains, a complex carbohydrate that the human body cannot fully digest. When it reaches the intestines, it ferments and produces gas.

3. People Prone to Allergies or Eye Irritation

Due to the histamines it contains, consuming cabbage can trigger an allergic reaction at people prone to allergies that can manifest in a form of a rash, itching, watery eyes, sneezing, or even eye bleeding.

4. People With Kidney Problems

People who experience kidney issues should avoid eating cabbage because of the oxalic acid it contains. This acid can bind with minerals like calcium and form kidney stones.

Judge Dugan temporarily removed from official duties by Wisconsin Supreme Court

Following the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan, who has been charged with obstruction of an official proceeding after she helped an illegal immigrant escape federal officials, she would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge” until her case proceeds through the legal system, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled.

“I can confirm that our @FBI agents just arrested Hannah Dugan — a county judge in Milwaukee — for allegedly helping an illegal alien avoid an arrest by @ICEgov,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X last Friday. “No one is above the law.”

According to AP, Dugan’s attorney said, “Judge Dugan wholeheartedly regrets and protests her arrest. It was not made in the interest of public safety.”

Her arrest led to a confrontation between state judicial authority and federal immigration enforcement.

“The court has learned that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah C. Dugan has been charged with two federal criminal offenses, one of which is a felony and one of which is a misdemeanor,” a two-page order from the court filed Tuesday stated.

“This court is charged in the Wisconsin Constitution with exercising superintending and administrative authority over the courts of this state. In the exercise of that constitutional authority and in order to uphold the public’s confidence in the courts of this state during the pendency of the criminal proceeding against Judge Dugan, we conclude, on our own motion, that it is in the public interest that she be temporarily relieved of her official duties.”

Judge Dugan’s cases will be redistributed among other judges in Milwaukee’s already-overloaded court system.

Further, legal experts argue that the Supreme Court’s swift ruling of removing Judge Dugan from official duties highlights the seriousness with which the judiciary takes claims of a judge deliberately impeding federal law enforcement.

“When a judge faces criminal charges related to their official duties, it creates an extraordinary situation that demands immediate administrative action,” explained James Friedman, a professor of judicial ethics at Marquette University Law School. “The suspension doesn’t presume guilt, but it acknowledges that the integrity of the judicial process would be compromised if a judge under such serious allegations continued to preside over cases while simultaneously defending themselves against criminal charges.”

If convicted, Judge Dugan could face up to six years in prison.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 15.

Experts issue warning as people share terrifying experiences after smoking weed

The consumption of cannabis has increased worldwide in recent years due to greater social acceptance, legalization, and the perception that it is relatively harmless.

A new study, however, sheds light on the effects cannabis can have on brain activity.

The topic has gained renewed attention after President Donald Trump moved cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III to ease restrictions on medical research, a decision that has also revived debate over the drug’s potential long-term health risks.

“Because a lot of people want to see it, the reclassification, because it leads to tremendous amounts of research that can’t be done unless you reclassify,” Trump said, per ABC. “So we are looking at that very strongly.”

This certainly doesn’t mean that cannabis comes with no risk.

The research published in JAMA Network Open examines the link between cannabis consumption and the effects on brain activity. Researchers analyzed 1000 young adults aged 22 to 36 with cannabis use disorder using brain imaging technology. The research revealed that both those who used cannabis for an extended period of time and recent users showed reduced brain activity during a working memory task.

Working memory is person’s ability to work with information and is linked to a range of cognitive activities, from reasoning tasks to verbal comprehension to mathematical skills.

Joshua Gowin, PhD, the study’s first author, stated, “As cannabis use continues to grow globally, studying its effects on human health has become increasingly important. By doing so, we can provide a well-rounded understanding of both the benefits and risks of cannabis use, empowering people to make informed decisions and fully comprehend the potential consequences.”

Use of cannabis has negative effects on the communication between key brain networks, including those involved in daydreaming, decision-making, focus, memory, and managing emotions.

“We applied the highest standards to our research, setting rigorous thresholds for statistical significance across all seven cognitive function tests. To minimize the risk of false positives, we employed false discovery rate (FDR) correction. While some of the other tasks indicated potential cognitive impairment, only the working memory task showed a statistically significant impact,” Gowin added.

Most cannabis users believe that CBD (cannabidiol)—a compound in cannabis that doesn’t cause a high—reduces the negative effects of THC (the compound that makes people feel high). However, the study suggests this not to be the case. On the contrary, it sometimes increases the effects.

Dr Daniel Myran, a researcher with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and a family physician, spoke of the risk of psychosis at people who smoke weed.

“I think that people remain unaware of this connection between cannabis use and potential risk of chronic psychotic disorders,” he said per CBC. He also warned that men aged 14 to 24 also have the risk of ‘developing schizophrenia’ of over ‘40 per cent within three years’ if they visit the ER for cannabis-induced psychosis.

Dr. Myran has studied the link between cannabis and psychosis and co-authored research in 2023 showing a 220% increase in Ontario emergency room visits tied to cannabis-induced psychosis between 2014 and 2021. He also led a study that found about 27.5% of people who went to the ER for cannabis use later developed an anxiety disorder within three years.

One possible reason is the much higher THC levels in modern cannabis compared with naturally occurring plants. People with existing genetic or mental health vulnerabilities may be more at risk, with regular use, or even a first experience, potentially triggering psychosis.

Neurologist reveals the scariest thing people do to their brains

Most of us are well-aware of the benefits training and regular exercise have on our body, but we often overlook the connection between regular physical activity and our brain.

Dr. Kim Johnson Hatchett, a neurologist, explains that the lack of physical activity, especially strength training, affects the brain negatively and the damage caused can be lasting.

Dr. Hatchett, who is also a public speaker and has nearly 9,000 TikTok followers, took to the social media to remind people to stay active for the sake of their brains. In a recent post, she explained, “The scariest thing I see as a neurologist is the gradual weakening of America. Not moving your muscles . . . has an effect on every aspect of your life and most importantly your brain.”

In an interview with Self, Dr. Hatchett said that not many people are aware of the strong link between physical activity and their brain.

“Every time you exercise, you secrete nerve growth factor, a peptide involved in regulating neurons in the brain,” she explained. “It can also support myelin, the neuroprotective sheath that helps nerve fibers shuttle electrical impulses quickly and efficiently and can degenerate with age.

“So many of my patients are frustrated by their lack of mobility. I ask them about their activity level, and they often admit they aren’t really exercising at all.

“They truly don’t make the connection that their weakness is due to their lack of muscle movement, and they definitely are unaware of the impact that it might be having on their brain.”

She pinpoints that even slightest daily movement may reduce the risks of dementia.

During exercise, particularly cardio and strength training, the blood flow to the brain increases, leading to better cognitive functions.

“If you want to maintain your mobility and cognitive abilities, one investment you can make is exercising and using your muscles on a daily basis.

“That pop of [nerve growth factor] will just help your brain function better.”

Dr. Hatchett concluded that we are all the sailors of our own ship.

“Ultimately, what I wish people knew is that you have more control in the aging process than you realise!

“Getting weaker as you age is not inevitable and regular exercise and strength training will pay off in dividends in the end.”

Donald Trump wants to reopen Alcatraz and reveals who will be sent there

The notorious prison Alcatraz, known as “the Rock,” was shut down on March 21, 1963, and later transformed into one of San Francisco’s top tourist attractions, attracting 1.5 million visitors every year.

However, President Donald Trump announced on May 4 that he had asked from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to reopen it after over six decades.

Taking to Truth Social, he wrote, “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering. When we were a more serious Nation, in times past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals, and keep them far away from anyone they could harm. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

His post continued: “That is why, today, I am directing the Bureau of Prisons, together with the Department of Justice, FBI, and Homeland Security, to reopen a substantially enlarged and rebuilt ALCATRAZ, to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.”

While it operated, Alcatraz housed some of the most notorious criminals, such as Al Capone.

Sharing his frustrations with the “radical judges,” who according to Trump are slowing down deportations by insisting on due process, he is outlining a broader strategy to reform how the U.S. detains federal prisoners and immigration offenders, and the decision to reopen Alcatraz is part of it.

“Alcatraz has long been a symbol of law and order. You know, it’s got quite a history,” Trump said.

According to AP, reopening the notorious prison “would likely be an expensive and challenging proposition,” especially because one of the reasons for its closure were the high maintenance costs and the crumbling infrastructure.

Despite that, a Bureau of Prisons’ spokesperson said the agency “will comply with all Presidential Orders.”

Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, whose district includes the prison, deemed Trump’s proposal “not a serious one” since “[the prison] is now a very popular national park and major tourist attraction.”

Trump also directed the opening of a new detention facility at Guantanamo Bay expected to hold up to 30,000 of what he called the “worst criminal aliens.”

Pressure mounts to strip Harry and Meghan of royal titles following explosive interview

Prince Harry lost his case in the Court of Appeal seeking the return of his police protection. In the past, he claimed the lack of protection is the reason why his wife and children aren’t visiting Britain, dubbing such trips unsafe.

After the ruling, he took part in an interview with the BBC during which he complained that his father “won’t speak to me” and that he was the victim of an “Establishment stitch-up,” the Daily Mail reported.

Further, Harry accused the Royal Household of interfering in his battle to have his UK police security reinstated and expressed shock upon discovering that two senior members of the Royal Household are on that committee.

He asked the Home Secretary to investigate the influence the Royal family and Ravec had on the outcome of his case.

Government spokesman told The Mail on Sunday: “All members work together to advise the independent chair on the protective security of the Royal Family and key public figures.

“As part of long-standing arrangements these decisions have been taken by Ravec, not the Home Secretary.”

Harry’s accusations sparked outrage among the public, who called on King Charles to strip his younger son and his wife of their royal titles.

Palace insiders say Harry’s remarks about his father’s health, including the claim that “he doesn’t know how much longer he has left,” were a step too far and that it may deepen the rift.

Officials “railed against” the BBC for not challenging the Duke’s “outrageous claims,” royal insiders said, which led to the British broadcasting service to admit to a “lapse” in editorial standards over its coverage of the interview.

“Claims were repeated that the process had been ‘an Establishment stitch-up’ and we failed to properly challenge this and other allegations,” they said in a statement.

“This case is ultimately the responsibility of the Home Office and we should have reflected their statement.”

They are never going to stop attacking him, the Monarchy, and the Royal Family—all while simultaneously enriching themselves from their royal status. It’s despicable.”

His post continued, “He trashed his family as Prince Philip was dying.. he trashed his family as The Queen was dying … and now he’s trashing his family as both his father and sister-in-law [Kate] have been battling cancer. Is there a more contemptible public figure in the world than Prince Harry?”

During the funeral, a crow lands on the little girl’s coffin

The air felt unusually cold and bitter that morning as mourners gathered inside the church for the funeral of sweet Emily, a six-year-old girl who left the world too soon.

Her heartbroken parents stood by their daughter’s coffin, holding hands and wondering how they would continue their lives with their little girl by their side.

Emily was loved by everyone who has ever met her. She was kind and always cheerful. Her passing didn’t only affect her family but the entire community.

Those who came to the church to pay their respects sat quietly as the priest began the service. His voice shook while he was reading the prayers.

And then, something strange happened.

A crow, dark and huge, entered the church amid the funeral service and landed on the girl’s coffin.

The bird, whose eyes were unusually shiny, sat still while the mourners looked at it in disbelief. “A crow inside the church,” they murmured.

Some whispered that the bird got there by accident, but they all knew deep down that there was more to it.

At one moment, the crow placed its head on the coffin as though it bowed in respect for the life lost.

Eventually, all of the whispers faded and everyone watched at the crow silently.

After a while, the crow lifted its head, opened its wings, and flew off without making a single sound as it disappeared into the sky.

The elderly people who witnessed the unusual sight spoke of old beliefs that crows were connected to the spirit world. They were messengers for souls who passed away. At that moment, it felt like those stories and beliefs were true.

Emily’s mother, unable to contain her tears from rolling down her face, turned to her husband and said, “This was her way to say goodbye.”

The presence of the crow at their daughter’s funeral was the closure the heartbroken parents needed. It was a sign that their daughter was watching over them from a place of peace.
