Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck — court documents disclose major twists

The rumors about the trouble in the paradise turned out to be true as singer/actress Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from husband Ben Affleck on the date of their second wedding anniversary, August 20. As per TMZ, Lopez filed legal documents Tuesday in L.A. County Superior Court herself, without an attorney.

The date of their separation was listed April 26, 2024.

Further, TMZ revealed that there was no prenup, meaning everything the two A-listers made during their two years of marriage is community property. During those two years of Jen and Ben being a thing, he starred in Air and Hypnotic, and produced The Instigators, among the rest, while she landed roles in Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, This Is Me … Now, and Atlas.

According to the documents, Lopez has chosen not to seek any financial support from Ben Affleck as part of the divorce settlement, asking the judge to deny Affleck spousal support as well.

This, however, doesn’t mean the two have settled the money-related aspects that arose from their separation. As per TMZ, talks on the topic continue.

Speculation surrounding the ‘Bennifer’ relationship increased after the pair were caught on camera during a seemingly uncomfortable and tense exchange at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The photo of Affleck from the event in which he seemed to be bored had gone viral and people took it as yet another sign that their relationship was coming to an end.

Affleck has been said to have moved out of the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion earlier this year, although neither he nor Lopez commented on the matter. In fact, when asked about the rumors of their frail relationship by a journalist during a press conference in Mexico for her Netflix film, Atlas, in May, Lopez answered, “You know better than that.”

Lopez and Affleck tied the knot in July 2022 after rekindling their engagement. Since then, their relationship has been in the public eye, particularly after she acknowledged that their previous relationship had “crumbled under the pressure.”

Meghan Markle’s direct order to Prince Harry during Colombia tour exposed by lip reader

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may no longer be working royals, but their latest tour to Colombia reveals that they are definitely treated as though they are still working for the crown.

On the first day of what is planned to be a four-day tour, the Sussexes visited a school to discuss the impacts of social media with students and later spoke at a summit on digital responsibility, which was partially organized by their Archewell Foundation.

The office of Colombia Vice President Francia Márquez, who extended the invitation to the Duke and Duchess, stated that the couple will be meeting “leaders, youth and women who embody the voices and aspirations of Colombians committed to progress,” as per BBC.

Having faced criticism, bullying, and attacks on social media, Harry and Meghan were prompted to campaign for a safer internet.

Recently, they launched the Parents’ Network, an initiative designed to offer a safe and supportive community for parents dealing with the impact of social media harm on their children.

Speaking to CBS, Harry said, “I think, one of the scariest things that we’ve learnt over the course of the last 16, 17 years that social media’s been around, and more so recently, is the fact that it could happen to absolutely anybody.”

He added: “We always talk about in the olden days if your kids were under your roof, you knew what they were up to; at least they were safe, right?  And now, they could be in the next-door room on a tablet or on a phone and can be going down these rabbit holes. And before you know it, within 24 hours, they could be taking their life.”

As Harry and Meghan emerged from a building to greet the crowd, Meghan made a comment, and lip reader Nicola Hickling shared with Mirror that the Duchess said “hand” to her husband, to what he responded “Here you go.”

Royal expert and author Robert Jobson writes that the Sussexes’ arrival to Colombia has “raised more questions than answers” with locals.

“When Harry and Meghan touched down, it wasn’t just the Colombian sun that made people squint. It was the blinding glare of their celebrity,” Jobson said, wondering whether the couple are a “shiny distraction to keep the people from looking too closely at the cracks in the walls.” Further, he questioned who’s paying for all the luxuries and the security, which was described as “massive” by the Independent journalist Nick Pisa, who accompanied Harry, Meghan, and the vice president.

“We’ve seen 14 car and police van convoys carrying the Sussexes through the streets of Bogotá since they arrived this morning and have been on four engagements,” Pisa said.

“There’s a bit of controversy with the vice president over the fact that she seems to travel everywhere by helicopter, but we should say she has been subjected to several death threats and also several attempted assassinations.”

The journalist added: “It does raise serious questions about why Harry thinks that Great Britain might be a little bit too unsafe for him, but he’s happy to stand next to someone who has, unfortunately, quite literally got a target on her back.”

Indeed, Colombia may not be the safest place to travel to as the U.S. Department of State has Colombia on a Level 3 travel advisory, urging visitors to “reconsider travel” due to “crime and terrorism,” yet, Harry and Meghan accepted the invitation to visit the country. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that they received backlash for this decision, having in mind they claim they fear for their children’s safety in the UK and that’s the reason they don’t travel there.

Hilary Fordwich, royal expert, told Fox: “This entire tour is the height of Harry’s hypocrisy. Yet another stop on their ‘worldwide privacy tour.’”

She added: “He has claimed he is concerned regarding security in the U.K. [but] Colombia is ranked far more dangerous.”

Royal reporter Duncan Larcombe said on GB News, “Every time there’s an official royal tour, an overseas visit, it’s always at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office because of soft diplomacy.”

“There’s a reason that’s got to happen. Harry and Meghan have effectively just decided to accept invitations. They went to Nigeria earlier this year. Again, that had nothing to do with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Larcombe added: “It had nothing to do with their status as royals other than they were able to be persuaded to go. I think the question that everyone’s asking is, ‘why on earth are they there?’ What are they trying to achieve?’”

“It’s hard to fit them all in. He always says he can’t come to Great Britain with Meghan because it’s too dangerous without his royal security. Yet he goes to a country that I think I’m right in saying the Foreign and Commonwealth Office warned British subjects not to go there.”

Do you believe this visit would provoke even further conflict between Harry and the rest of the British royals?

Husband locks wife out over cheating suspicion – She proves him wrong

For a relationship to flourish and for both partners to feel fulfilled and happy next to the person they chose to be with, there has to be trust, understanding, commitment, and support. If any of these elements lacks, the relationship may begin to falter.

A woman took to Reddit to share how her bond with her partner of five years weakened after he accused her of cheating without having any evidence.

She started her story questioning how someone she has been with for wife years, and married for two weeks, could hurt her in such a manner and ruin her reputation over a smell he noticed in their apartment that resembled a cologne.

It all started when her husband was asked to stay with his mother for a couple of days because she broke her hip and needed surgery after her husband accidentally hit her with the car while backing up the driveway.

The woman was busy working, so she stayed home while her husband was at his parents’ place.

After a couple of days, he returned home and asked the woman why the apartment smelled of cologne, especially the bedroom. She said she had no idea and didn’t discuss the matter any further because she was late for work. However, when she returned home from work later that day, the locks were changed and she couldn’t enter the house.

Not knowing what to do, she went to her mom’s place, where she had spent the next couple of days. Her husband wouldn’t pick up his phone, but his mother did speak to the woman, telling her all sort of accusations and asking from her to return the wedding ring, which cost $18K, back.

What’s most, her husband and mother-in-law told everyone in the family that the woman was a cheater, threatening to start annulment process. As everyone close to the woman was told “what she had done,” her phone was never silent.

Devastated, she tried reaching her husband, but he only responded to her text messages and refused to talk to her.

Eventually, she figured out where that “cologne” smell came from.

Writing on Reddit, she explained that her husband hates fish, particularly the smell, so while he was away, she prepared some for her and in order to get rid of the smell of fish, she used scented wipes and attached them on the back of the fan in her bedroom that is on most of the time. As she got used to the smell, she didn’t think it would be the smell of the wipes that her husband would confuse with cologne.

Once she figured this out, she texted her husband asking from him to look in the bathroom trashcan for the packages and on the back of the fan for the wipes.

The following day, he was at her mom’s door, begging her to forgive him. His excuse for his suppositions that she was cheating on him was that “I’ve always thought you’re too good to be with someone like me,” which wasn’t much of a consolation.

She did return home, but nothing felt right after that horrible incident that showed her his lack of trust in her. She wrote she planned to spend some time at her mom’s before she figured out what to do next.

The fellow Redditors were quick to comment under her post, sharing similar experiences about their partners, and offering support and advice.

“I’m hurt and angry for you! Reading this made me feel rage! I couldn’t go back. You are a stronger than me. That right there is so immature of your husband. How could he not talk to you before changing the locks. Given you a chance to talk it out first before jumping to conclusions. I’d leave. My trust and my heart would be broke. Sure therapy if you really want to save the marriage. But things will never be the same. Best wishes,” one person wrote.

“He showed you not only who he is, but what he truly thinks about you. What you do with that information, only you can decide,” another added.

“He locked you out of your own home. Had he not changed his mind, you’d have nothing. Get rid of him and his family. Fast,” a third added.

Tragic house explosion claims lives of two beloved brothers

In a tragic occurrence in Defiance, Missouri, a house explosion claimed the lives of two young boys.

Julian Keiser, four, and Jamison Keiser, six, died when their home caught fire on Friday morning. Grieving neighbors and community members remembered them as the “nicest little boys” who brought joy to all who knew them.

Evelyn Turpiano, the boys’ mother, and their grandparents, Jennifer and Vern Ham, were able to escape the burning home and reach safety. Unfortunately, the severity of the fire made it impossible for firefighters to reach Julian and Jamison in time. Despite a concerted effort from the community, rescue attempts were unsuccessful. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies, based in Florida and owners of the property where the tragedy occurred, has extended their condolences to the family as a show of support. Known for their active involvement in the local community, the Hoffmanns have been working to transform the region into the Midwest’s Napa Valley by acquiring wineries and eateries.

To support the grieving family through their devastating loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up. So far, more than $145,000 has been raised, reflecting the tremendous support from friends, neighbors, and even strangers. The funds will help cover funeral expenses and aid the family in rebuilding their lives after the loss of their home and possessions.

In a show of solidarity, the Defiance community has rallied around the grieving family. Laura Emerson, a local resident, commemorated the boys by placing a Christmas wreath on a water pump near the charred remains of their home. She adorned the wreath with two stuffed animals to celebrate the boys’ joyful spirits and the love they brought to others.

We are so very sorry for this devastating loss. May these loving boys rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family.

NFL reporter confirms the passing of his 2-year-old daughter due to cancer

The two-year-old daughter of NFL reporter Doug Kyed passed away nine months after being diagnosed with cancer.

New England Patriots reporter for the Boston Herald and his wife, Jen Kyed, shared the heartbreaking news on the social media, writing that their sweet little girl, Hallie Kyed, died peacefully in her sleep in January 2024. She was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2023.

As per Hallie’s mom and dad, her condition worsened following a bone marrow transplant.

Sadly, her last round of chemotherapy was ineffective too.

“The whole family spent special time at the hospital last week, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong and resilient Hallie had been through her entire nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications,” Kyed wrote on his Instagram.

Following Hallie’s relapse, Doug wrote that the family was trying to stay positive despite the obstacles the little one faced.

At the time, he wrote, “I’m choosing to stay positive,” and added: “Hallie has beaten every single obstacle that AML has thrown her so far. This will absolutely be her toughest test, but if anyone can topple it, it’s our fierce little Hallie Bear.

The NFL reported admitted that they “knew the prognosis was poor when she relapsed after her bone marrow transplant, so the whole family spent special time at the hospital last week, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong and resilient Hallie had been through her entire nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications.”

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer that begins in the bone marrow, where blood cells are produced. In AML, abnormal myeloid cells, which are a type of white blood cell, multiply rapidly, crowding out healthy blood cells. As the disease progresses, these abnormal cells can quickly enter the bloodstream, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, easy bruising or bleeding, and increased susceptibility to infections. In some cases, AML can spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, and central nervous system, though this is less common compared to its primary manifestation in the bone marrow and blood.

Since Hallie’s diagnosis, Doug and his wife had spent most nights at Boston’s Children Hospital. “My wife and I have switched off between caring for Hallie and our 5-year-old, Olivia, at home,” he explained.

“There is a giant hole in my heart and the pain is excruciating,” Jen Kyed shared. “I will never understand why or how something so horrible can happen.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family.

The revenge of the sharp-witted 57-year-old wife

The following joke has been around for years and it’s safe to say that it’s a timeless classic that make us laugh again and again.

Just like comfort food for the soul, jokes uplift us and put a smile on our face. We hope this one will make your day.

One morning, the wife found a note on the coffee table. She hoped it was a heartwarming message from her husband of many years, but she was wrong. In fact, he revealed his affair with his young secretary.

“My dear wife, you will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, being 57 years old, can no longer satisfy. I am very happy with you, and I value you as a good wife.

“Therefore, after reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongfully interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 19-year-old secretary at the Comfort Inn hotel. Please don’t be upset—I shall be home before midnight,” the note read.

That evening, he came home to a note from his wife that left him in a state of shock.

“My dear husband, I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about me being 57 years old. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 57 years old.

“As you know, I am a math teacher at our local college. I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is also the assistant tennis coach. He is young, virile, and, like your secretary, is 19 years old.

“As a successful businessman who has an excellent knowledge of math, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference—19 goes into 57 more times than 57 goes into 19. Therefore, I will not be home until sometime tomorrow.”

Well, isn’t this a brilliant comeback coming from a 57-year-old math teacher?

Although this is just a joke, it highlights how the wife, through her sharp wit and intelligence, turned a potentially embarrassing situation into a moment of triumph, leaving her husband stunned. It’s also a celebration of those who navigate life’s challenges with a blend of grace and sass, showing that wit and wisdom remain timeless.

Please SHARE this joke with your family and friends on Facebook if it made you laugh.

Barbra Streisand: A strong advocate for democracy

Besides being a renowned artist and a much-loved musician with a career spanning decades, Barbra Streisand is also an outspoken Democrat who has slammed former President Donald Trump publicly over the years.

Speaking to host Stephen Colbert in 2023, Streisand said, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president,” to what Colbert asked where would she possibly move. “Probably England, I like England,” she answered.

Streisand made a similar statement back in 2016 while speaking to Australian journalist Michael Usher. “I’m either coming to your country, if you’ll let me in, or Canada,” she told him ahead of the elections that Trump won. But like other celebrities who had, and likely still have, the same opinion of Trump, Streisand stayed in the States and decided to channel her resistance towards Trump’s government through her music.

Releasing her album Walls in 2018, she used it as a means to point to Trump’s despotic leadership.

Standing against lies and deception, something she’s convinced the business mogul represents, she she expressed her outrage through her music with pieces such as Don’t Lie to Me.

In her book My name is Barbra, she spoke of her support for Hillary Clinton and called Trump “a liar.”

She further questioned the role of artists in the world of politics, expressing that they should serve as “a country’s conscience.”

“Their work gives us a reflection of the times, and sometimes they challenge us to see what others would prefer to ignore. They can give voice to the voiceless, by speaking up when no one else will,” Streisand wrote.

“That’s why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.

“I believe we all have not only the right, but the responsibility to be politically active and to question authority,” she added.

Mentioning Trump’s politics, she wrote he “lies as easily as he breathes.”

“I can’t stand being lied to, and I don’t think the country should be lied to either,” Streisand wrote, before making a humorous remark about Trump, “And I just couldn’t comprehend how he could tell all these lies with absolutely no guilt (clearly he’s not Jewish.)”

When President Biden took over the office, Streisand expressed her satisfaction, sharing with Variety she believes “the country is certainly headed in the right direction.”

“I love Biden. I love his compassion, his honesty, his integrity, his love of facts, not fiction,” the Release Me: 2 singer said. “He is a good-hearted soul, intelligent. Years in the Senate. I’m a big fan.”

Why I no longer make my son say ‘thank you’ or ‘sorry’

Parenting is a personal journey, and each parent chooses what they believe is the best method for raising their child. The truth is, no matter which approach one chooses, there will always be people who are judgmental and criticize the parenting style of others, believing their own method is the right one.

But could there be a unified approach to parenting when every child is a unique individual with specific character, needs, and preferences? I believe not, so why don’t we just let parents decide what’s best for their kid without second-guessing their choices and strategies?

A mom named Emma penned a letter to Bright Side, asking for advice and explaining why she no longer forces her 8-year-old son to say phrases such as “sorry” and “thank you.”

Emma started her letter explaining that her choice to parent her son that way comes from her personal experience of living with strict parents. According to her, her mom and dad’s approach to raising her and her siblings in a household where rigorous rules were followed led to anxiety and low self-esteem, something she hoped her son Georgie won’t experience.

When she became a mother herself, she made a decision that her parenting style won’t involve a power struggle between the parent and the child because she doesn’t feel superior to her son, which doesn’t mean she ignores her authority over him.

This, however, has led to conflicts between her and her husband who is convinced that she should be more strict. He believes their son “should understand social norms and the consequences of his actions.”

Emma recalled a situation when Georgie pushed a kid at the playground and she didn’t make him apologize for his actions, instead, she was the one who approached the mom and her kid and said she was sorry for what Georgie did. The mother, however, wasn’t happy and demanded Georgie apologize.

Emma said she wouldn’t force Georgie to say sorry if he didn’t really mean it, because doing so would mean she’s teaching him to be fake and to believe that the feelings of those around him are more important than his own. She, however, wants him to be led by example and learn how to apologize by watching her do that and adopt that habit eventually.

The mother at the playground called Emma “a bad and irresponsible mother.”

Now, although she’s convinced her parenting style is the right one and gives positive results, the criticism from her husband and the parents around her made her question her choices.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you believe there is a parenting style that is “the right one,” or it should be on the parents to decide on what’s best for their little ones?
