Single dad adopts boy with Down syndrome no one wanted

Being a father was all David ever wanted, and his wish was finally granted when he became a single dad of a beautiful boy with Down Syndrome.

However, before the adoption took place, David experienced the worst heartbreak a man can ever experience.

That day, David was pacing down the hospital corridor as his wife Rita was in the delivery room. He and his brother were impatient to meet the little baby boy who was supposed to change everyone’s life. Rita’s pregnancy was a smooth one and nothing spoke trouble, so no one really had anything to be concerned over.

Sadly, there were complications and both Rita and the baby lost their lives.

What supposed to be the best day in David’s life turned into a living nightmare.

He didn’t know if he had the strength to move on with his life. Rita was his whole world, and without her, he didn’t see any purpose in life.

On the first night without her by his side, David sat on the rocking chair his wife loved so much. Anger filled his heart. He couldn’t understand how cruel life was.

Crying over the loss, he felt the urge to demolish the nursery room he and Rita spent plenty of love and time building. But then, something clicked in him. He knew that there was a child out there, unwanted and unloved, who could use that room and have a good life. So, David decided to adopt a child.

The following day, he contacted a number of adoption agencies, but when they learned he was a single father, they all told him the chances were dull.

But one agency gave him hope and said that single parents adopting a child started becoming more common.

Weeks passed by and David went through a number of interviews. And when they finally determined that he fulfilled the conditions to fill in an adoption application, the agency told him there was a boy with special needs who was in need of a loving home.

David believed that all children were special and they all had needs, so he was quick to meet sweet Sam who was two years old and had Down Syndrome.

In no time, Sam became part of David’s life and impacted him in ways David could never imagine.

Sam was a vibrant boy who made friends easily. His social life was a busy one as everyone invited him to playdates and sleepovers.

No one cared he had Down Syndrome, and that made his dad happy.

Years gone by, and Sam turned twelve. He was a young man as any other kid his age. He had friends, started going out, excelled at school, and was the most outgoing person his dad has ever met.

But then, out of the blue, David got a call from a lawyer who claimed to be representing Sam’s biological parents.

This scared David. He couldn’t possibly imagine what those people wanted after that many years, but after pledging him to accept the meeting, he finally agreed.

When he met the lawyer, he handed him a letter written by Sam’s biological father. In it, the man explained that when Sam was just three months old, he and his wife were involved in a car crash in which she lost her life. He survived by lost the function in both his legs and believed he wouldn’t be able to raise his son with Down Syndrome on his own.

At the time, he believed it would be for the best if Sam ended with a new family. And learning how David treated Sam and how loving and caring he was, he didn’t feel like he made a mistake giving up on his son.

The lawyer then gave David access to Sam’s trust fund which came to $1.2 million, money David vowed to secure his son’s future, just as his biological father wished.

The only thing Sam’s biological father wanted from David was to tell Sam that they never wanted to abandon him, but life forced them to.
