When love for dogs is greater than life, that leads to stories like that of a brave California officer who climbed into a mucky sewer for the sake of saving a canine’s life.

The Huron Police Department took to the social media to share this incredible rescue story that restores faith in humanity.

They explained that after they received a report of a dog trapped in the sewer, three of their officers – Commander Fuentes, Sergeant Paul Lopez, and Officer Gonzalez – answered the call without even giving it a second though.

Covering his legs in plastic, one of the officers  jumped into the sewage drain to retrieve the trapped dog.

Luckily, the little pup was rescued just in time. According to KSEE/KGPE, she’s expected to fully recover.

The pup was all covered in mud, and the photos of her rescue were soon shared all over the social media, with the public praising the officers who came to her rescue.

Of course, the pup was given the much need bath and was checked by a vet in order to be sure she didn’t sustain any injuries while being stuck in the sewer.
