New poll reveals unexpected 2028 presidential race contenders

The most recent poll conducted by Emerson College reveals new insights into the political landscape of the 2028 US presidential election.

According to the survey, Vice President JD Vance soared to the position of frontrunner, while current President Donald Trump experienced a noticeable drop in his approval ratings.

Based on the answers of 1,000 registered voters — including 416 Republican primary voters — Vance is way out front in the 2028 GOP lineup with 46% support, while Rubio and DeSantis lag behind with 12% and 9%.

Independent Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received support of 5%, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley garnered 2 percent each.

Six other candidates polled at 1 percent or less.

The number of undecided voters in the party dropped from 50% in November to 17% in this poll.

When it comes to the Democrats, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has surpassed former vice president Kamala Harris in the poll.

Some experts argue that the drop in Trump’s ratings is a result of the politics he has implemented since taking Office for the second time. Among the rest, he has signed a plethora of executive orders such as enacting new tariffs on imported goods — causing political tensions at home and abroad — and engaging in a highly publicized feud with tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Also, he signed an order for the US to leave the World Health Organization, changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and most recently, he ordered the Treasury to phase out federal tax credits for solar and wind projects.

Most of Trump’s decisions have caused stir and have been dubbed controversial by experts and Democrats.

Recently, Trump ordered airstrikes on three suspected nuclear facilities in Iran — Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.

In retaliation, Iran targeted a US military base in Qatar with rocket attacks.

The results provided with the recent poll show not only the public’s opinion on the current administration but also what Americans look for in their potential future leader.
