It was back in September 1984 when three teenage girls found a baby wrapped in a blanket and placed in a plastic bag in the toilet of a leisure centre car park near Milton Keynes, UK.
The baby, now 40-year-old Jon Scarlett-Phillips, was abandoned by his birth mother with his placenta still attached.
The girls called emergency services, and paramedics transported him to the hospital, where doctors provided the medical care he desperately needed.
Jon shared his life story on ITV’s Long Lost Family: Born Without a Trace, hoping to get in touch with his birth family.
“I was found by three girls. Finding something like that at that age is absolutely crazy. I’m grateful, very grateful that they heard me and found me. They’re the ones that saved my life,” Jon, visibly moved, shared with the audience.

He explained that he never lacked anything as his adoptive family has been the most loving and most caring family one could ever ask for. He grew up along his sister Debbie and his adoptive parents provided him with nothing but love, but still, he secretly wished to fulfill a void.
“I didn’t want to search for a very long time,” Jon, who works as a chef, explained. “The question is still there: Why did she do it?”
Eventually, his wife, Becky encouraged him to look for his birth mother in order to get the closure that he desperately needed.
It took quite a long time before Long Lost Family: Born Without a Trace were able to track down Jon’s mother. What they learned was that at the time she fell pregnant with him, she already had two young daughters, and the thought of having yet another child must have felt overwhelming.

According to Long Lost Family’s Ariel Bruce, Jon’s mom was at a very bad place mentally when she gave birth to him.
After they discovered his family, his mother wasn’t ready to meet him, but his two half-sisters embraced the opportunity to finally meet their young brother.
The moment they met was beyond touching. They connected instantly and were eager to catch up on the time they had lost.
And while Jon’s mom wasn’t there at the time of the filming, she did have a heartfelt message for her son.
“Hi, I’ve sent this message to the girls so they can let you know the reasons why I’m not with them today.
“Unfortunately, I feel unable, both physically and mentally, to come today following a long period of illness,” his mother’s message read.
“It’s not a no Jon, it’s just time,” it added.
Jon finally found emotional relief. “I feel a lot lighter. I feel a bit more full, as well. That emptiness has disappeared completely now. I’m a happy man.”
