Cher breaks silence on ex-boyfriend Val Kilmer’s death at 65

The passing of Val Kilmer has been met with an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow actors who remember his talent and the iconic roles he had given to the world of film.

According to his daughter, Mercedes, the Batman star died of pneumonia. Kilmer battled cancer in the past and had undergone extensive treatments that damaged his vocal cords thus affected both his life and his career.

Among those who honored Kilmer is his Batman co-star Jim Carrey. “I’m remembering Val Kilmer today with great admiration for him as a man and as a generational talent who left us an enviable legacy of indelible acting performances,” Carrey, 63, said in a statement to The Post on Wednesday. “His greatest artistic achievements were rivaled only by the grace and courage with which he endured his life’s most challenging moments,” Carrey added. “Wishing his family so much love.”

Singer Cher, who used to date Val Kilmer during the 80’s, also paid her tributes.

Cher and Val Kilmer were an unlikely couple. She was 14 years his senior and already an accomplished singer, while Kilmer was just starting his career but was considered a Hollywood heartthrob.

Recalling their romance, Cher told People in 2021, “Was he 22? What was I? I don’t know. 30-something. It was a bigger deal back then. The truth was if I hadn’t gone out with younger men, I would have never had a date. Younger men weren’t intimidated by older women. But older men in my age category, they weren’t having it.”

She added: “He’s like nobody I’ve ever known. He is exasperating and hysterical. Thrilling and funny and doesn’t do what anyone else does.”

The pair even had nicknames for each other. “We called ourselves Sid and Ethel. Val didn’t want to yell ‘Cher,’ and I didn’t want to yell ‘Val.’ We also called ourselves Valus Maximus and Cherus Reprimandus. Of course he was Maximus,” the singer added.

Even after their romance ended, the two remained close friends.

Following his sudden passing, Cher took to the social media to share her emotions over the devastating loss.

“VALUS. Will miss u, U Were Funny, crazy, pain in the ass, GREAT FRIEND, kids [heart] U, BRILLIANT as Mark Twain, BRAVE here during ur sickness,” she posted.

Fans were quick to comment under her post.

“It’s really sad. I know how special he was to you and the bond you shared,” one person wrote. “I’m so sorry for your loss! May his brilliant soul rest in peace,” another added.
