Mindy dreamed of a big wedding ever since she was a teenager, and when that day finally arrived, a little girl entered the church in the middle of the ceremony and asked her fiancé, “Dad are you going to do to her what you did to mom?”
The day of the wedding seemed perfect. Mindy walked down the aisle gazing at the man of her dreams. Liam looked more handsome than ever.
Family and friends were gathered to witness the act of two soulmates saying “I do.”
Liam shared his vows, promising to love Mindy forever and be by her side for better or for worse. But just as Mindy was about to exchange hers, the calmness that filled the church’s air was interrupted by the opening of the huge wooden door.
Suddenly, all eyes were at the little girl that started walking down the aisle.
“Daddy,” the girl said, looking at Liam.
At that moment, Mindy felt his grip loosen. Liam’s face went pale. Mindy started at him, unable to say anything, but her look said she needed an explanation.
“Go away, girl,” Liam yelled. “I don’t know who you are, just leave.”
But the girl didn’t make a single move. Instead, she asked, “Dad, are you going to do to her what you did to mom?”
The whole church was stunned at the little girl’s words.
Liam then turned to Mindy and said, “I’m not this girl’s father. I have never seen her before, you have to trust me.”
Mindy was confused. She needed answers. Her big day was on the verge of being ruined, and she was scared of the outcome of the situation which was becoming more uncertain by the minute.
Sadly, this poor bride realized her relationship was a big lie when a woman carrying a young boy entered the church.
“Liam, how much longer will you pretend you don’t have children?” she said in a steady voice.
She then turned to Mindy and said, “Sorry for ruining your wedding, but I thought you deserve to know the truth about the man you are about to marry.”
Mindy’s world spun. She felt like she was marrying a complete stranger. Why would the man she loved hide his children from her, she asked herself.
The woman explained that Liam was her late daughter’s husband. Their marriage was perfect until the moment their son was born. The little one had Down Syndrome and Liam decided to leave them, unable to accept the fact his son was different.
The church erupted in murmurs. Mindy turned to Liam and begged him to tell her that wasn’t true. But he couldn’t. He just said it wasn’t that simple.
Mindy left the church crying. Her dreams were crushed. She felt like her life was ruined.
That evening, she spent the night at her friend’s place and didn’t take any of Liam’s calls.
The wedding was called off, and she needed to get to the bottom of the story.
After a couple of days, she tracked the woman, Marilyn, who lived in the neighboring town.
She asked her why she didn’t tell her the truth before. Why she waited until the wedding day to spill Liam’s secret.
Marilyn was sorry for ruining the wedding, but it was the day before that she learned her ex son-in-law was tying the knot. It turned out that the wedding organizer Mindy hired was Marilyn’s friend and she only saw a photo of her and Liam while visiting her.
Mindy spent the day with the children.
Over time, she started visiting them more often. Both she and the children were hurt by the same man.
One evening, while Mindy was helping the girl with her homework, she asked her, “Mindy, do you hate my dad?”
Mindy said she didn’t, she was just glad the wedding didn’t happen.
“But how can you not hate him?” the girl wanted to know.
With a smile on her face, Mindy answered, “I don’t, because if it wasn’t for him, I would have never met you and your brother.”
