At 69, Denzel Washington has confirmed the heartbreaking rumors

Actor Denzel Washington announced a plethora of new projects and with it comes a surprise that caught many off guard.

The Oscar winning actor said “there are very few films” left for him to make at this late stage in his career, saying he would retire following completion of the projects he has already shared to be working on. One of those project is his role in Black Panther.

“For me, it’s about the filmmakers. Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done,” he shared with Today.

The actor also mentioned a Broadway production he would be part of in February 2025, alongside ake Gyllenhaal. “I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70,” he said.

The Training Day actor expressed interest in teaming up with directors Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler, while also hinting at an adaptation of King Lear and a movie centered on the Carthaginian general Hannibal.

“After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film,” said Washington. “After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”

Washington started his career in 1977 with the TV movie Wilma, and made his big-screen debut in Carbon Copy in 1981. Since then, he has become a Hollywood icon, known for powerful roles in Glory, Training Day, and Malcolm X.

Over the years, he has received a number of awards for his incredible acting skills and talent.
