Sisters Kylie Horne, 11, and Kylann Harper, 4, got abducted on Sunday morning (October 15) around 11:52 am from a Burger King restaurant.
Police were alerted right away. They began an extensive search as said it was crucial to locate the girls as soon as possible because they were in “extreme danger.”
Luckily, the girls have since been found, but the bizarre circumstances around their disappearance are still being investigated.
Before vanishing, the sisters were spotted at a Columbus Burger King with a woman named Mikaela Harrell. According to the New York Post, this woman’s relationship with the girls remains unknown.
Following their abduction, an Amber Alert was issued by the local authorities. Along with the description of the girls, they also released a description of the vehicle Harrell was driving, a 2011 Honda CRV SUV that was a blue/gray color.
However, authorities were alerted that the girls were later transferred into another vehicle, a Gold 2004 Lexus. Luckily, the licence plate numbers were also included in the alert.
By the next morning, Monday October 16, the girls were found safe and sound, as per a statement from the Columbus Police Department. “As of Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 11:30 am, both children have been located in the area of South Georgia and are safe,” the statement read. “The investigation is ongoing, and charges could be forthcoming for those involved in the abduction.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that Harrell, who is a person of interest, had a criminal record relating to previous drug offences. She had been convicted of possession of methamphetamine and was on parole from August 2007 to August 2016.
However, she’s not the only person who is believed to be involved in the girls’ abduction.
The second person of interest is the sisters’ mother, Kaila Spires.
The investigation is ongoing.
We are glad the girls weren’t injured and are now safe.
