They made fun of my grandpa’s inheritance — until they realized what it really was

When my grandfather passed away, all my cousins seemed to care about was the will he left behind. All seven of them were eager to learn how much money they inherited while I was the only one who truly grieved his loss.

The truth was that my grandpa and I were very close. Our bond was unbreakable, unlike the one he had with my cousins who barely visited.

My grandpa’s will revealed that each of his grandchildren, except for me, received a $200,000 inheritance.

When it came to me, I was left with the old farmhouse, a place so old it barely stood the test of time.

Unsurprisingly, my cousins erupted in laughter. “Oh, dear,” my cousin Maria said, “I guess you weren’t grandpa’s favorite grandchild after all.”

They called the old farmhouse “bricks and racoons,” but it was my grandpa’s most favorite place and I was delighted I was the one who got it.

In the weeks that came, I moved in. I cleaned every corner of every room, and eventually, I got to the basement.

There, I noticed a loose panel in the wall. Behind it was a hidden room with an old filing cabinet marked “Private.”

When I opened that drawer, I was shocked. Inside were a bunch of patents for different innovations my grandpa worked on his entire life. Among the rest, there were notebooks with business plans and a key to a room where he kept his fabrics.

Right there and then, I knew continuing his legacy was my call. It was something he would’ve wanted me to pursue, and I didn’t waste any time before I made the decision to start a fabric business.

It was rough at first, but it eventually took off and turned into a very successful venture.

As the business grew, so did my cousins’ envy.

My grandpa’s inheritance didn’t seem funny to them any longer. On the contrary, almost all of them approached me to ask for loans and a bunch of other things. They believed that because the business was something our grandpa envisioned, they were entitled to it.

Of course, I made sure they know it belonged exclusively to me. They all chased money while I inherited something way more valuable.
