After getting canceled by Fox and finding it’s way into one of the most popular streaming platforms, this series has captured a fresh wave of attention.
It follows a group of doctors working at Chastain Memorial Hospital — and no, this isn’t just another typical hospital drama.
In the first episode, Devon, a new intern, begins his residency with high hopes, but is soon faced with the harsh reality that not every saved life is a win. He performs CPR on a patient for nearly half an hour, and despite he gets the young woman’s heart beat again, she’s left brain damaged. It’s a gut-punch moment — the first in the series that challenges the main characters and the audience.
The series also follows the main characters’ personal lives, their relationships, and their ups and downs.
The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, who played Logan in Gilmore Girls, Manish Dayal, Bruce Greenwood, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Tasso Feldman and Emily VanCamp.
It first aired in 2018 and ended in 2023.
Once it got on Netflix, it quickly reached the top 10, with people praising the plot and the cast, lauding it for breaking away from the typical feel-good medical drama formula.
