Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role of Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show, has died aged 54.
According to reports, the actor drowned while vacationing in Costa Rica, with the country’s Judicial Investigation Agency confirming the news.
Officials said Warner died near Cocles, a beach in Limon, after being dragged out to sea by a current while swimming at Playa Grande about 14:00-14:30 local.
Bystanders who noticed Warner drowning managed to get it him out of the water and take him to the shore where Costa Rica’s Red Cross responders tried to revive him. Sadly, he was pronounced death at the scene.

For his role of Cosby’s son on The Cosby Show, Warner received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The show’s reputation was later affected by Cosby’s legal issues, including the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s overturning of his sexual assault conviction in June 2021.
Despite this, Warner said in 2023 that he was proud for being part of it. “I know I can speak for all the cast when I say The Cosby Show is something that we are all still very proud of.
“We share a unique experience that keeps us lovingly bonded no matter how much time goes between seeing or hearing from each other.
“Regardless of how some people may feel about the show now, I’m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on — first and foremost, black culture — but also American culture.”

Malcolm-Jamal Warner also appeared on the sitcoms Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines. More recently, he appeared on the Fox medical drama The Resident.
Following the news of his sudden passing, tributes from fans and fellow actors started pouring in.

Warner leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
