Such a heartbreaking loss! The nation is grieving, and you’ll be moved when you learn who he was

Charles Cyphers, the actor best known for portraying a haunted movie star, has died at the age of 85.

His manager Chris Roe confirmed the news and said he had been absent for a short time. Charles died Sunday in Tucson, Arizona.

Chris told Variety: “Charles was a kind and loving man. “You always felt the joy when he told his best stories; it was just his way. He will be deeply missed as he was both a long-time client and a dear friend.”

Charles Cyphers is best remembered for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the 1978 film Halloween.

He reprized his role in the 1981 and 2021 sequels.

During an interview at HorrorCon UK 2022, Charles described his return for Halloween Kills, the third film in the series, as “shocking but amazing.”

“After forty years, I never expected to be asked to appear in a film again. Most of the actors are gone,” he said. “I’m thankful I didn’t die before they brought me back.

“To get paid to do it again was amazing. It was nice. I enjoyed it,” he added.

Nancy Kyes, who played Annie Brackett in the first two Halloween movies, remembered her on-screen father fondly.

“I was heartbroken to hear about Chuck’s death,” she said. “He was always good for a laugh, a kind word or a great story. He was a longtime friend and he will be deeply missed.”

His third film with Halloween director John Carpenter was Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) where he played Starker, a police officer.

Jamie Lee Curtis appeared in The Fog alongside Charles and the two later reunited in all three Halloween films.

Charles and Nancy also worked together in the 1981 film Escape from New York.

In addition to film roles, Charles has appeared in several television series including Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher, The Betty White Show, The Dukes of Hazzard, Seinfeld, JAG and more.

The passing of Charles Cyphers marks the end of an era for many fans and colleagues who fondly remember his contribution to the world of entertainment. Best known for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Halloween, Cyphers has extended far beyond the iconic franchise. His return to the Halloween franchise decades later was a poignant moment for him and fans as he showcased his lasting legacy in horror.

In addition to his acting career, Charles was remembered for his warmth, kindness and infectious storytelling.
